1 BUCS POINTS FOR INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS SEASON BUCS Points for individual competitions are distributed for the top four individuals/teams and the top eight overall teams (depending on the competition). The general format for individual points is listed in the table below. Please note that in standalone team championships, when team placings are not distinguishable the total points for the applicable positions are combined and shared equally. Extracted team scores are calculated for individuals from the same institution competing at an event; for example the best 4 finishers. The way in which extracted scores are calculated varies between sports. Please refer to the relevant sport specific event rules for more details. In each instance where there is an extracted team score a maximum of 2 teams can score points. Overall team scores are calculated by ranking each institution against each other across a whole event. Only one overall score will be available for each institution. Individual Events Team (overall from Individual Scores/Times) * Team (Stand Alone) Championship * Trophy ** Shield ** 1 st Place 12 Points 1 st Place 20 Points 1 st Place 50 1 st Place 30 1 st Place 20 2 nd Place 8 Points 2 nd Place 14 Points 2 nd Place 35 2 nd Place 21 2 nd Place 14 3 rd Place 6 Points 3 rd Place 10 Points 3 rd Place 24 3 rd Place 14 3 rd Place 10 3 rd Joint (if applicable) 5 4 th Place 7 Points 4 th Place 16 4 th Place 12 4 th Place 7 4 th Place 4 Points 5 th Points 5 Points 5 th Place 14 5 th Place 11 5 th Place 5 6 th Place 3 Points 6 th Place 12 6 th Place 9 6 th Place 3 7 th Place 2 Points 7 th Place 10 7 th Place 7 7 th Place 2 8 th Place 1 Point 8 th Place 8 8 th Place 5 8 th Place 1 The BUCS points available within each individual competition are outlined within this document, per sport. Individual Points will be accrued by institutions dependent on the restrictions imposed by the competition. Restrictions will be clearly stated in the sport specific event regulations. Please note that points will not be allocated where the minimum number of competitors has not been reached, and where there are not enough individual scores to extract a team score. Furthermore, an individual must have beaten another individual to score BUCS points (i.e. if 3 individuals finish an event, only 2 will score BUCS points). Similarly, medals will be awarded according to the accrual of BUCS Points. For example if there are only three entries in an event only Gold and Silver medals will be awarded. There are also BUCS points available for disabled athletes within a number of BUCS events, listed in this document. These points are not listed in full here due to fluctuation in entry numbers, but will follow the same format (12/8/6/4) as all other individual competition BUCS points. * For the Team Trophy and Shield (stand-alone), institutions may accrue BUCS Points as per finishing position (e.g. finish in 1 st and 3 rd ) unless stated otherwise in the sport specific rules.
