1 SCOTTISH ROWING Indoor Rowing Championships 2018 Entry and Event Information Entry and Event Information Events and Fees The Scottish Rowing IRC 2018 will take place on Saturday 17 th November Entries close midnight Sunday 4 th November. Please see below for the events offered. Enquiries regarding entries should be made to the organisers via at: entries@scottish-rowing.org.uk. NEW FOR 2018: Open Beginner Open to club rowers who have undertaken a learn to row course in the 12 months preceding the day of the event. There is a 10% early bird special for entries received and paid for by 12th of October Online entry needs to be accompanied by an online payment. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the race organisers. An additional administration fee of 3 per entry will be applied to any accepted. Entries into the student 2km races will also be automatically entered in the corresponding open event. Events with less than 4 entries may, at the discretion of the event organisers, may be consolidated into another event. The organisers will make every effort to consult the affected competitors in advance of the draw being released. See the appendix for more details. For the purposes of scheduling, some events my race alongside, but not against, each other on the day. Age Group (Masters) Events: Competitors who enter their age group 2km event will be eligible for the corresponding Open medals. Competitors will only race once in their age group race. Page 1 of 8

NEW FOR 2018: Scottish Rowing will award a gold medal to the fastest non-student competitor in the open 2km events. Medals will be awarded only to the 1 st place teams in the team events. Student Beginner Team 15: Senior Team 15:30 Scottish Student Sport Indoor Rowing Championships The Scottish Student Sport Indoor Rowing Championships (SSSIRC) is part of the BUCS Indoor Rowing Series and points will be awarded in the student events to eligible students. The Championships will consist of men s and women s events in the following: Individual Categories: Heavyweight, Lightweight, Beginner Team Categories: Open Team, Beginner Team Special Note: Entrants in individual student events (excluding the beginner category) will automatically be entered in the corresponding senior championship category. Separate races will NOT be held. There is no additional cost to be paid. Alan Easson (aeasson@aol.com) is the Scottish Student Sport Rowing Chair. The SSS IRC are open to matriculated students of Universities and Colleges who compete under the name of their institution. Beginner events are open to students in their first year of rowing competition (indoor or on-water). A Scottish Student Sport Victor Ludorum will be awarded to the most successful student club. Each event category will attract the following number of points: Place Points 1st 10 2 nd 6 3 rd 4 4 th 3 5 th 2 6th 1 In the event of a tie, the Victor Ludorum will be awarded jointly. Further information on the BUCS University Indoor Rowing Series can be found here: Photographer Waiver and Privacy Policy The Scottish Indoor Rowing Championships is open to the public, who may take photos and videos of the event which the organisers cannot control. 5 Scottish Rowing will take photos and video of the event. By entering the championships, you consent to your image in photograph and video format and information to be used for the following purposes: Social Media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; Scottish Rowing website articles; marketing & leaflets; training; educational or publicity purposes. All photography and video will be taken in accordance with the Scottish Rowing Child Protection Policy. Terms of Entry Entry fees are non-refundable. By entering the competition, a competitor agrees to be bound by the rules (see below). The Championship Organising Committee reserves the right to limit the size of entry. The decision of the judges is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. Page 5 of 8

6 Rules of Racing General 1. Competitors may use the drag factor setting of their choice, but this cannot be changed during the race. 2. No pre-event qualification is required. 3. Concept 2 Indoor Rowers will be used. 4. Competitors will be requested to submit an estimated expected time (distance for timed races) to ensure that athlete can be seeded into races with athletes of a similar standard. 5. Events will be straight finals. i.e. each competitor will only row once. Some categories will involve several races. The times from all the races for a single category will be ranked to give an overall listing. The organisers will try to arrange for the fastest competitors of each category to be in the last race for each category. 6. Competitors may enter any number of events in which they are eligible to do so, on the understanding that the organisers cannot be responsible for ensuring that sufficient rest periods are provided. 7. In the event of an equipment failure and if possible within the existing race programme competitors may, at the discretion of the organisers, be given the opportunity to compete in another race and still be eligible for an event prize. Entire races will not be re-rowed in the event of an equipment failure. 8. A provisional schedule will be ed to all competitors and placed on the event website by Wednesday 7th November Any mistakes should be notified as soon as possible BEFORE race day. Age categories 9. Senior age group categories are based on the competitor s age on the day of the event. (17th November 2018), e.g. A competitor whose 40th birthday is on the day of the Championships would compete in 40+ category. 10. Junior age group categories are based on the competitor s age on the 1st September 2018 (i.e. the year preceding the Championships) Refer to the table below. J12 - born on or after 1st September 2006 J13 - born on or after 1st September 2005 J14 - born on or after 1st September 2004 J15 - born on or after 1st September 2003 J16 - born on or after 1st September 2002 J18 - born on or after 1st September 2000 Team Events 11. All team events will use a single rowing machine. Teams shall consist of 4 competitors. 12. Team members may make as many change-overs as they wish to cover the allotted distance but must always change in the same order. 13. Names of competitors for team events can be changed at registration on the day of the event. 14. The J18 team event may comprise any combination of boys and girls. I.e. single sex teams are permitted. Where appropriate the organisers may award multiple prizes in this category, for example to the fastest team comprising all girls. Page 6 of 8

7 Lightweight Event Weight Limits 15. Men are restricted to weighing in at 75kg or less. 16. Women are restricted to weighing in at 61.kg or less. 17. Lightweight competitors must weigh-in between 1 and 2 hours before the scheduled start of their first race. Competitors who do not make their weight will not be able to compete. Competitors entered in multiple lightweight events need only weigh in once. Note: For lightweights attempting to break a World Record, in accordance with regulations from on water events and indoor rowing championships around the world, lightweights must be weighed in no earlier than two hours before their race. Records from lightweights weighed prior to two hours before their row will not be recognized. If lightweights would like to try for a World Record in an event more than 2 hours after they have weighed in they should alert the organisers and weigh in again between 1 and 2 hours before that event. 18. Lightweight competitors who do not make weight will be moved into the appropriate heavyweight race. Page 7 of 8
