Competitions North Wales: South Wales: Regional: 4 events (Deganwy; Wrexham; Rhyl; Deeside) 6 events (Gwent; Carmarthen; Swansea; Pembroke; Cardiff; Bridgend) 1 event (Shuttle Plus, Flash LC, Welshpool) 2. Age Groups U11, U13, U15, U17, U19 (the U19 s event is at Tournament Organiser s discretion). Players may enter a maximum of two age groups in the same discipline; however it is at the Tournament Organisers discretion as to whether they will be accepted in more than one age group. This will include the Shuttle Plus. 3. Events Tournaments must include singles and level doubles events. 4. Eligibility To enter you will need to be one of the following:- (a) A pupil at an affiliated school. (b) Individually affiliated to Badminton Wales, or affiliated to Badminton Wales through a club. (c) Affiliated to another national association which is a member of the Badminton World Federation (e.g. Badminton England). (d) If none of the above a 2 supplement applies to the total entry fee. Note: You will need to quote your school / individual affiliation number on the entry form. If you do not know this please contact your school or at the Badminton Wales Office. Members of the following groups are prohibited from entering: High Performance Centre Players Regional Academy Players born in 2002 or earlier The following Badminton England graded players are not permitted to enter:- Under 13 not eligible - grade A to H Under 15 not eligible - grade A to G Under 17 not eligible - grade A to F The following English Performance Centre Players must play in as follows:- Rising Stars Own age group. Raw Talent An age group higher Developing Talent Not permitted to enter. Emerging Talent Not permitted to enter. Players who are not eligible in one discipline may still enter the others. (For example; should an U13 player be ranked between grades A and H in Singles but be ranked grade I in doubles, they may enter the doubles but not the singles). 1

2 5. Entries, Forms and Fees Tournament Organisers are responsible for the draw and event seeding. Previous rankings can be obtained from the BW web site. If you require assistance with the draw and/or seeding please contact the BW Events Officer. The closing date for entries is 14 days before the event, unless otherwise stated by the Tournament Organiser. Entries must be submitted on the appropriate form together with the correct fee. If more than one age group is being entered, separate entry forms must be submitted for each age group. Players may enter a maximum of 2 Age Groups per event. (E.g. U13 & U15 Singles may be entered but not U17) Entry for doubles events will only be accepted on receipt of separate entries from both players. Once an entry has been submitted and accepted by the Tournament Organiser, the entrant is liable for the entry fee. Late entries will only be accepted at the organiser s discretion and if numbers permit. Late entries will be subject to an additional fee of 5. At the discretion of the Tournament Organiser failure to pay the entry fee before start of play may result in an additional 5 fee In the event of withdrawals, Tournament Organisers must be notified at least 24hours in advance of the start of play. At the discretion of the Tournament Organiser failure to notify the Tournament Organiser of withdrawal resulting in a No Show may incur an additional 10 fee on top of the original entry fee. Failure to pay any of the above fees may result in players being barred from entering further tournaments. Players requiring confirmation of entry should state so on the entry form. If confirmation by post is required a stamped addressed envelope should be enclosed with the entry form. A single entry form will be produced by the BW Events Officer and will be available on the BW web site. The entry fees will be 8 (singles) and 5 (doubles, per player). Refunds will not be provided unless there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. partner required or no partner found, cancellation of tournament). 6. Competition Format (see full table page 5-6) The first round of each event will be played on a group basis. Groups will be a minimum of 4 where possible. Where there is more than one group, the winner and runner up of the groups will go through to the knockout stage. If the entry level for an event is sufficient for only one group, rankings will be decided by the results of group games as detailed below. There will be no final play off. Position in groups will be established by: The number of matches won. If two pairs/players have won the same number of matches the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher. 2

3 If three or more pairs/players have won the same number of matches, ranking will be established by the difference between the total points won and total points lost, with the greater positive difference ranked higher. If this still leaves two players/pairs equal, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher. If three or more players/pairs are still equal, then ranking will be established by drawing lots. If illness, injury or other unavoidable hindrance prevents a player/pair completing all the pool matches, all the results of that player/pair will be deleted. Retiring during a match will be considered to be not completing all pool matches. A player/pair is entitled to prizes according to results actually obtained before any withdrawal due to injury. Should a player withdraw during the group stages they will assume last position in the group. 7. Scoring All group and knockout matches will be one game to 21 rally points with extended play to 30 points. Finals will be played as the best of 3 to 15 rally points with extended play to 21 points. Tournament organisers have the discretion to amend this if there are timing problems. 8. Coaching Coaching during matches will not be permitted at any BW Junior Shuttle event - this includes between rallies and between games. 9. Shuttles Feather shuttles will be used. 10. Trophies Medals or trophies will be awarded to winners and runners up. BW encourage organisers to order through from whom you will get discount with using code BADMWALES. 11. Clothing and Advertising BW encourages the use of suitable badminton clothing at all events. Event organisers are requested to follow this lead. 12. Photography In line with Badminton Wales Photographic/Recorded Images Policy, any person wishing to engage in any photography or videoing should complete a Photography and Video Recording Registration Form (Appendix 1) and hand it in to the Tournament Organiser before any photography/video is undertaken. Any unauthorised photographer who will not agree to these conditions may be reported to the appropriate authority. 3

4 Photographs/videos will be taken at these events and Badminton Wales may use these photographs/videos for purposes including (but not restricted to) news items (both online and newspaper), marketing materials/outlets, education and training, player analysis, performance, development, selection and event promotion. If Parents/Guardians have any concerns with their child being photographed at our events please complete the Photography/Video Refusal of Consent Form, which can be found at the end of these conditions (Appendix 2). This form must be handed to the Tournament Organiser on arrival. 13. Latest Rankings The latest Junior Shuttle rankings may be displayed at each event, but canbe found on the BW website. 14. Ranking Points Ranking positions will be established based on each players best results. The amount of results which will count towards a players ranking are as follows: North Wales: top 3 results + Shuttle Plus result South Wales: top 4 results + Shuttle Plus result The following points system will be used for all age groups: Winner(s) 260 Runner Up 232 Semi Finalist 204 Quarter Finalist (3 rd in group) (4 th in group) (5 th in group) 92 The following points system will be used for the BW Shuttle Plus: Winner(s) 390 Runner Up 348 Semi Finalist 306 Quarter Finalists (3 rd in group) (4 th in group) (5 th in group) 138 If there are only two groups in an event, no Quarter Final will take place. Therefore no player/pair will be awarded Quarter Finalist ranking points. If there is only one group in an event, the points will be allocated as in the above running order. In the case of an injury in the knock out stages ranking points already won will be awarded. In the event that there is a single entrant in an event half of the winner points (130) will be awarded to that player. Should a tournament be cancelled, no points will be awarded to any entrants. 4

Shuttle Plus The Shuttle Plus will replace the Shuttle Finals and will be held at The Flash Leisure Centre, Welshpool on the 8 th and 9 th of April Players from both North and South Wales Shuttle Circuits may enter the Shuttle Plus tournament. All other Shuttle Circuit Regulations apply to the Shuttle Plus. 16. Up-grading Players will be upgraded in accordance with the following criteria Once a player has won 2 tournaments in the same age group in a season, they must play up an age group. This applies to each event separately. Therefore should a player win 2 Singles at U13, they must play at U15 s Singles but can still enter U13 Doubles. Players at U17 and U19 who win 2 tournaments will be encouraged to enter the Junior Open Series. The winners of the Shuttle Plus tournament will have to play up an age group. Should a player be upgraded after the Shuttle Plus they will play up an age group following season provided that they are not already going up in to that age group. (For example; an U13 who is moving up to U15 in the next season will stay in the U15, should the player be remaining at U13 the next season they must play up at U15). Series winners will be upgraded providing that they are not already moving up an age group the following season. Badminton Wales will notify players and Tournament Organisers of any upgrading s. 17. Series Winners At the end of the series, all series winners will be presented with a commemorative trophy/medal. BW Events Technical Advisory Group will adjudicate on recommendations / requests / appeals for upgrading made by Tournament Organisers, Coaches / Parents or Players and their decision shall be final. 5

I acknowledge that if it is deemed that I have used the photographs or recorded images inappropriately, this may result in me being unable to use photographic equipment at badminton programmes/events in the future and that the incident may be reported to the safeguarding lead officer at Badminton Wales. 9 APPENDIX 2 Photography/Video Refusal of Consent Form To eliminate the possibility of miscommunication, Badminton Wales advises that the Photography/Video Refusal of Consent Form should be filled in per tournament/event due to there being different organisers running the various BW sanctioned events.
