15 What is a Local Leader? Someone who organises groups of people to get together and celebrate The Games, locally. They have an enormous sense of community spirit, they make a difference they often are the difference They lead the way for their friends and family, neighbours or clubs/organisations they belong to follow They make stuff happen, but above all else......they are easy to follow: First Follower: Leadership lessons from the dancing guy

16 What can Local Leaders sign up for? Choose an occasion and celebrate. We have come up with some suggestions... Spring 2012: Get your neighbours to grow window boxes in red, white and blue. Or go for gold, and plant the Olympic Rings. 18 May 27-July :Is the Olympic Flame coming your way? Check the route. Save the date. Give your town its moment to shine. Know your Fencing from your Phelps? Hold a big Sports Quiz at home or in a social club to find your local brains of the Games 27 th July 2012 (Olympic) 29 th August 2012 (Paralympic) Send out the invites. Put up the bunting. Turn on the telly. And hold your breath 4 th August 2012:. 4 August will see 25 Golds. Get everyone round the barbecue, and cheer on your team. 24 th -29 th August 2012: Glow with the glory of the Paralympic Games: make a lantern and join a Flame Festival...or make a lantern procession of your own 9 th September 2012: Get together for the Closing Ceremony. Light the fireworks And say you were part of it.
