CAUTION: A CAUTION concerns potentia damage to firearm. Notice: A NOTICE highights important procedures and statements that require more emphasis than genera text. This manua and its figures refer to the APX Fu size pisto. The terms right and eft are intended to describe the firearm when it is grasped. This manua s contents may be changed without notice. 4

Notice: aways keep this manua with your firearm. Incude it with the pisto when it changes ownership or when it is oaned or presented to another person. Notice: The Manufacturer and/or its Loca Officia Distributors assume no responsibiity for product mafunction or for physica injury or property damage resuting in whoe or in part from crimina or negigent use of the product, improper or careess handing, unauthorized modifications, use of defective, improper, hand-oaded, reoaded or remanufactured ammunition*, customer abuse or negect of the product, or other infuences beyond manufacturer s direct and immediate contro. * See paragraph Ammunition. WARNING: Aways ensure safety if present is engaged unti ready to fire. A safety that is not fuy engaged wi not prevent firearm discharge. WARNING: ALL FIREARMS HAVE LETHAL POTTIAL. READ THE BASIC SAFETY RULES CAREFULLY AND UNDER-STAND THEM FULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO USE THIS FIREARM. Notice: In addition to the Basic Safety Rues, there are other Safety Rues pertaining to the oading, unoading, disassemby, as-semby and use of this firearm, ocated throughout this manua. WARNING: READ THE TIRE MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS FIREARM. MAKE SURE THAT ANY PER- SON USING OR HAVING ACCESS TO THIS FIREARM READS AND UNDERSTANDS ALL OF THIS MANUAL PRIOR TO USE OR ACCESS. The use of other manufacturer s spare parts and accessories coud cause mafunctions and/or breakages that wi not be covered by the beretta warranty. 5

BASIC SAFETY RULES WARNING: PLEASE READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE HAN- DLING YOUR FIREARM. WARNING: FIREARMS CAN BE DANGEROUS AND CAN POTTIALLY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, DAMAGE TO PROP- ERTY OR DEATH, IF HANDLED IMPROPERLY. THE FOLLOW- ING SAFETY RULES ARE AN IMPORTANT REMINDER THAT FIREARM SAFETY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. 1. NEVER POINT A FIREARM AT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT SAFE TO SHOOT. Never et the muzze of a firearm point at any part of your body or at another person. This is especiay important when oading or unoading the firearm. When you are shooting at a target, know what is behind it. Some buets can trave over a mie. If you miss your target or if the buet penetrates the target, it is your responsibiity to ensure that the shot does not cause unintended injury or damage. 2. ALWAYS TREAT A FIREARM AS IF IT WERE LOADED. Never assume that a firearm is unoaded. The ony certain way to ensure that a firearm has the chamber(s) empty is to open the chamber and visuay and physicay examine the inside to see if a round is present. Removing or unoading the magazine wi not guarantee that a firearm is unoaded or cannot fire. Firearms can be checked by cycing or removing a rounds 6

and by then opening and inspecting the chamber so that a visua inspection of the chamber for any remaining rounds can be made. 3. STORE YOUR FIREARM SO THAT CHIL- DR CANNOT GAIN ACCESS TO IT. It is your responsibiity to ensure that chidren under the age of 18 or other unauthorized persons do not gain access to your firearm. To reduce the risk of accidents invoving chidren, unoad your firearm, ock it and store the ammunition in a separate ocked ocation. Pease note that devices intended to prevent accidents - for exampe, cabe ocks, chamber pugs, etc, - may not prevent use or misuse of your firearm by a determined person. Firearm storage in a stee gun safe may be more appropriate to reduce the ikeihood of intentiona misuse of a firearm by an unauthorized chid or person. 4. NEVER SHOOT AT WATER OR AT A HARD SURFACE. Shooting at the surface of water or at a rock or other hard surface increases the chance of ricochets or fragmentation of the buet or shot, which can resut in the projectie striking an unintended or periphera target. 5. KNOW THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE FIREARM YOU ARE USING, BUT REMEMBER: SAFETY DEVICES ARE NOT A SUB- STITUTE FOR SAFE HANDLING PROCEDURES. Never rey soey on a safety device to prevent an accident. It is imperative that you know and use the safety features of the particuar firearm you are handing, but accidents can best be prevented by foowing the safe handing procedures described in these safety rues and esewhere in the product manua. To further famiiarize yoursef with the proper use of this or other firearms, take a Firearms Safety Course taught by an expert in firearms use and safety procedures. 6. PROPERLY MAINTAIN YOUR FIREARM. Store and carry your firearm so that dirt or int does not accumuate in the working parts. Cean and oi your firearm, foowing the instructions provided in this manua, after each use to prevent corrosion, 7

damage to the barre or accumuation of impurities which can prevent use of the gun in an emergency. Aways check the bore and chamber(s) prior to oading to ensure that they are cean and free from obstructions. Firing with an obstruction in the barre or chamber can rupture the barre and injure you or others nearby. In the event you hear an unusua noise when shooting, stop firing immediatey, engage the manua safety and unoad the firearm. Make sure the chamber and barre are free from any obstruction, ike a buet bocked inside the barre due to defective or improper ammunition. 7. USE PROPER AMMUNITION. Ony use factory-oaded, new ammunition manufactured to industry specifications: CIP (Europe and esewhere), SAAMI (U.S.A.). Be certain that each round you use is in the proper caiber or gauge and type for the particuar firearm. The caiber or gauge of the firearm is ceary marked on the barres of shotguns and on the side or barre of pistos. The use of reoaded or remanufactured ammunition can increase the ikeihood of excessive cartridge pressures, case-head ruptures or other defects in the ammunition that can cause damage to your firearm and injury to yoursef or others nearby. 8. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLASSES AND EARPLUGS WH SHOOTING. The chance that gas, gunpowder or meta fragments wi bow back and injure a shooter who is firing a gun is rare, but the injury that can be sustained in such circumstances can be severe, incuding the possibe oss of eyesight. A shooter must aways wear impact resistant shooting gasses when firing any firearm. Earpugs or other high-quaity hearing protectors hep reduce the chance of hearing damage from shooting NEVER CLIMB A TREE, FCE OR OB- STRUCTION WITH A LOADED FIREARM. Open and empty the chamber(s) of your firearm and engage the manua safety before cimbing or descending a tree or before cimbing a fence or jumping over a ditch or other obstruction. Never pu or push a oaded firearm toward yoursef or

another person. Aways unoad a firearm, visuay and physicay check to see that the magazine, oading mechanism and chamber are unoaded, and action is open before handing it to another person. Never take a firearm from another person uness it is unoaded, visuay and physicay checked to confirm it is unoaded, and the action is open. 10. AVOID ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR JUDGMT/REFLEX IMPAIRING MEDICA- TION WH SHOOTING. Do not drink and shoot. If you take medication that can impair motor reactions or judgment, do not hande a firearm whie you are under the infuence of the medication. 11. NEVER TRANSPORT A LOADED FIREARM. Unoad a firearm before putting it in a vehice (chamber empty, magazine empty). Hunters and target shooters shoud oad their firearm ony at their destination, and ony when they are ready to shoot. If you carry a firearm for sef-protection, eaving the chamber unoaded can reduce the chance of an unintentiona discharge. 12. LEAD WARNING. Discharging firearms in poory ventiated areas, ceaning firearms, or handing ammunition may resut in exposure to ead and other substances known to cause birth defects, reproductive harm, and other serious physica injury. Have adequate ventiation at a times. Wash hands thoroughy after exposure. WARNING: It is YOUR responsibiity to know and abide by Federa, State and Loca aws governing the sae, transportation and use of firearms in your area. WARNING: This firearm has the capabiity of taking your ife or the ife of someone ese! Aways be extremey carefu with your firearm. An accident is amost aways the resut of not foowing basic firearm safety rues. 12 12 AMMUNITION AMMUNITION (CARTRIDGE) NOTICE: Beretta specificay discaims responsibiity for any damage or injury occurring with, or as the resut of, the use of fauty, non-standard, remanufactured, hand-oaded or reoaded ammunition, or cartridges other than those for which the firearm was originay chambered. Serious damage or injury, even death, coud resut from the use of incorrect ammunition, from firing against bore obstructions and from propeant overoads. Use of improper ammunition, such as isted previousy wi void the manufacturer s warranty. Use ony high-quaity, commerciaymanufactured ammunition made in accordance with CIP (Europe and esewhere) or SAAMI (USA) standards. Be certain that the ammunition is the appropriate caiber and oading for the firearm and is cean, dry and in good condition. The pisto caiber is stamped on the back of the barre, visibe from the ejection port. WARNING: Carefuy inspect each cartridge before it is oaded in the magazine. Be certain the cartridge cases are not spit or deformed, and that the cartridges do not possess any other dents or defects. This warning even appies to factory ammunition. Do not fire od ammunition. Primers, powder, cartridge cases, and buets can deteriorate with time and cause damage to the firearm, or injury to the shooter or others. WARNING: The extended use of +P or +P+ ammunition may decrease component part service ife expectancy. DO NOT use sub-machine gun ammunition because the chamber pressure may reach or exceed proof oad pressure. Lead buets have a tendency to cause bore eading, which may dramaticay increase the discharge pressure. Be sure to remove a chamber and bore ead accumuation after each use. DO NOT shoot cartridges with jacketed buets through a barre previousy fired with ead buets before the bore is thoroughy deeaded. DRY FIRING & DUMMY ROUNDS Dry firing is defined as firing a firearm with no ammunition in

the chamber. Long term dry firing your Beretta APX pisto may resut in damage to the striker. Snap Caps (inert chamber inserts that aow a firearm to be dry-fired without damaging the action) are avaiabe at most gun stores for those who wish to practice firing without ive ammunition. WARNING: Before oading the firearm, become famiiar with the foowing oading procedures without the use of ammunition. Never hande a oaded firearm unti you are famiiar with the oading procedures. WARNING: Aways keep your finger away from the trigger unti you are prepared to fire. WARNING: LOAD THE CHAMBER ONLY WH READY TO FIRE. CAUTION: Dummy Rounds with empty primer pockets are suitabe for oading/unoading practice but DO NOT PROTECT the striker tip during dry firing. LOADING AND FIRING WARNING: Whenever a ive round is in the chamber, this pisto can fire, even if the magazine is empty or has been removed, uness equipped with a magazine disconnect safety. LOADING THE MAGAZINE WARNING: Be sure that you have the correct cartridges for your pisto. To oad the magazine: Remove it from the pisto by depressing the magazine reease button. Hod the magazine in one hand. With the other hand, pace a cartridge on the magazine foower in front of the feed ips at the top of the magazine. Press the cartridge down onto the foower and side the cartridge under the feed ips unti it is seated fuy inside the magazine body. Repeat process unti magazine is fuy oaded. The witness hoes on the back of the magazine aow for visua counting of cartridges. 13

CAUTION: Do not try to force more than the maximum number of rounds indicated for your particuar pisto into the magazine. An overoaded magazine may not function propery. 14 LOADING THE PISTOL AND THE FIRING CHAMBER WARNING: Beretta assumes no responsibiity for any injury or property damage resuting from improper or careess handing, intentiona or accidenta discharge of the firearm. WARNING: Be sure that the obstruction check has been competed prior to oading. WARNING: Point the firearm in a safe direction. Do not touch the trigger unti you are ready to fire and are sure of your target and backstop. The firing chamber is the portion of the barre into which the cartridge is fed. The firing chamber may be oaded in one of two ways: 1. MANUALLY LOADING FROM MAGAZINE Competey push the oaded magazine into the pisto grip to insure magazine housing engagement. Pu back the side and reease it. The side wi automaticay pick up a cartridge from the top of the magazine and feed it into the chamber. 2. AS LONG AS THERE IS AM- MUNITION IN THE MAGAZINE, A PISTOL WHICH IS LOADED AND FIRED, WILL AUTOMATI- CALLY PICK UP THE NEXT ROUND AND FEED IT INTO THE FIRING CHAMBER. To repace a round of a magazine which has been chambered from the magazine; (remember that you are handing a oaded firearm with a ive round in the chamber): Make sure your finger is not on the trigger or inside the trigger guard. Remove the magazine from the pisto by depressing the magazine reease button. Insert one more cartridge into the magazine. Competey push the oaded magazine into the pisto grip to

insure magazine housing engagement. WARNING: THE FIRE- ARM YOU ARE HANDLING AT THIS POINT IS LOADED WITH A LIVE ROUND IN THE CHAMBER. Keep your finger away from the trigger whenever you do not intend to fire. UNLOADING WARNING: Aways unoad the firearm whenever you do not intend to shoot. WARNING: Be certain the pisto is pointed in a SAFE direction. Keep your finger away from the trigger. Keeping the firearm pointed in a safe direction and fingers away from the trigger, remove the oaded magazine from the frame. Aways using safety precautions grasp the side serrations with thumb and index finger and fuy retract the side to remove the chambered cartridge. WARNING: Aways visuay inspect the firing chamber to ensure that it is empty. The chamber is empty when no cartridge is visibe when ooking from the ejection port into the open chamber. WARNING: If you are ejecting unfired cartridges, use extreme care to be sure they are ejected onto an appropriate surface. Never attempt to housing cartridges or fired cartridge cases as they fa. WARNING: Never aow anything to come in contact with the primer of unfired ammunition. Doing so coud cause the ammunition to expode. With the side in ocked position, make sure that you visuay and physicay inspect the chamber to ensure that it is empty. WARNING: Reeasing the fuy retracted side when a oaded magazine is in the pisto wi feed a cartridge into the pisto s firing chamber and the pisto wi be abe to fire immediatey. Notice: It is recommended to store the firearm unoaded, side cosed, with the magazine empty. 15

16 Apx UNLOADING THE MAGAZINE To unoad the magazine: Grasp the magazine with one hand around the magazine box, bottom down and front end forward. Without pacing the finger on the trigger or inside the trigger guard, point the pisto at the intended target. Aim the pisto by aigning the front sight in the notch of the rear sight. Point the front sight in the center of the target. The front sight shoud be in focus, the target and the rear sight sighty burred or out of focus. WARNING: THE PISTOL IS NOW READY TO FIRE. WH YOU ARE READY TO FIRE: Pace your index finger inside the trigger guard. WARNING: Ensure that fingers or other parts of the hands and the face are kept away from the side. Not respecting this warning can ead to serious injury. During the firing cyce, the side moves to the rear vioenty and with great energy. Ensure that the other hand is kept away from the muzze of the barre. Genty squeeze the trigger, be-

ing carefu not to upset the aignment of the front and rear sights. THE PISTOL WILL FIRE. The discharge wi force the side and barre to the rear, which wi in turn eject the fired cartridge case, reset the striker and compress the recoi spring. Then the side wi cose, feeding the next cartridge from the magazine into the chamber. WARNING: THE PISTOL IS STILL LOADED, COCKED AND READY TO FIRE. Keep your finger away from the trigger whenever you do not intend to fire. store a oaded firearm. To store the pisto see the paragraph STORAGE (page 35). WARNING: If whie firing the trigger is pued and the firearm does not immediatey fire: CEASE FIRING IMMEDI- ATELY and do the foowing: A squib oad is when a buet is not fired with sufficient energy to eave the barre and may create a dangerous obstruction. If a squib oad has occurred keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. When the ast round has been fired the side wi remain open. To fire again, remove the empty magazine and insert a oaded one. Push the side stop down to oad a cartridge into the chamber and shoot. When you have competed shooting, remove the magazine, check that the firing chamber is empty, see UNLOADING (page 15) and cose the side pushing the SLIDE STOP again. WARNING: Aways unoad the firearm immediatey after shooting is competed. Never With the pisto pointed in a SAFE direction, wait one (1) fu minute. After one (1) fu minute has eapsed, competey unoad the firearm by foowing the UN- LOADING instructions in this manua (page 15). Carefuy inspect your ammunition. Immediatey refer to a quaified gunsmith if the striker indent on a fired cartridge s primer is ight, off-center or does not exist. Foowing the FIELD STRIPPING instructions (page 26), fied strip the pisto and ook down the barre to make sure that no obstruction exists. If a barre obstruction is detected, a quaified gunsmith must remove 17

18 the obstruction and inspect the pisto before it can be fired. WARNING: If another cartridge is fired into an obstructed barre, catastrophic faiure can resut. WARNING: If, whie firing, you hear a change in the sound of a fired cartridge, or fee a change in the amount of recoi, or detect any other irreguarity, CEASE FIRING IMMEDIATELY and do the foowing: Keep the firearm pointed in a SAFE direction. A squib oad may have occurred. A squib occurs when a cartridge fires, but with insufficient force to drive the buet out of the barre. This can resut in a dangerous bore obstruction. With the gun pointed in a SAFE direction, competey unoad the firearm by foowing the UNLOAD- ING (page 15). Foowing the FIELD STRIPPING instructions (page 26), fied strip the pisto and ook down the barre to make sure that no obstruction exists. WARNING: Never attempt to reuse or fire ammunition that did not fire the first time. Dispose of unfired or damaged ammunition propery, per the ammunition manufacturer s recommendation. DESCRIPTION The Beretta APX, utiizing a removabe, seriaized chassis, can be easiy modified with repaceabe frame and is simpe to disassembe and maintain. Ease of use was the key driver in the deveopment of the APX. The APX s extremey ow profie, snag free design makes it easy to carry and draw from hoster. To accommodate right or efthanded use, the APX s magazine reease button can be easiy reversed. The ight, durabe frame empoys modern thermopastic technoogy through the use of fibergass reinforced technopoymer. SAFETY FEATURES Striker deactivation button Beretta APX pistos have a unique feature that aows the user to deactivate the interna striker mechanism prior to disassemby. This means the pisto can be disassembed WITH- OUT PULLING THE TRIGGER.

through inertia, in the event the pisto is dropped. Firing pin bock Beretta APX pistos have a striker bocking device that prevents forward movement of the striker uness the trigger is competey pued. Trigger safety The trigger safety stops the trigger from traveing rearward When the trigger is intentionay pued, the trigger safety is instanty deactivated. Out of battery safety Beretta APX pistos have a mechanism which disconnects the trigger bar when the side is out of battery. Thumb safety The Beretta APX pistos may be configured with thumb safety by changing the frame and the rear chassis pin and instaing thumb safety right, Thumb safety eft, Safety ever retaining pins, safety punger, and safety punger spring. 20 20 Loaded Chamber Indicator Beretta APX pistos may have a oaded chamber indicator which protrudes from the top surface of the side when a case is in the chamber. Loaded chamber indicator gives visua and tactie indication that there is no cartridge in the chamber. Magazine disconnect safety To prevent firing even in the case of dropping or oss of the magazine, APX pistos may be provided with a magazine disconnect safety configuration. Where ega requirements ask for, the gun wi be equipped with this device. OPERATIONAL FEATURES Semiautomatic firing Beretta APX pistos wi automaticay reoad after each round is fired, as ong as there are cartridges in the magazine. Barre ocking system The barre and side are ocked together as a unit at the time of discharge. As they move to the rear during recoi, the barre cam operates on the barre disconnector causing the barre to disengage from the side and aows the side to continue its rearward trave. Striker fired trigger system When the trigger is pued the trigger bar rotates the firing pin bock ever. This ever, in turn, rotates the cocking ever to the rear and the cocking ever pushes the striker against the striker spring. Just before fu trigger trave is reached, the firing pin bock ever pushes the firing pin bock out of engagement and the cocking ever reeases the striker. After the striker reaches

its fu forward position the striker return spring rebounds the striker to a neutra position so the firing pin bock is automaticay activated when the trigger is reeased. Magazine The Beretta APX pisto has an easiy removabe doube stack magazine that aows for rapid reoading of the pisto. The 9x19 mm magazine capacity is 17 rounds; the 9mm x21 IMI magazine capacity is 15 rounds and.40 S&W magazine capacity is 15 rounds. Side stop The SLIDE STOP is a ever that hods the side open after the ast round is fired. This aows the user to immediatey determine that the pisto does not have a round in the chamber or in the magazine. The APX s side stop is externa and ambidextrous. Interchangeabe and adjustabe ow profie sights The high definition 3-dot sight system is designed for quick target acquisition. Sights are made of stee and dovetaied to the side. ERGONOMIC AND MODULAR FEATURES Technopoymer frame By using fibergass reinforced technopoymer, Beretta has deveoped a ight and technicay advanced pisto with an ergonomic shape. Ergonomic and moduar backstrap The ergonomic frame features an optima grip ange for sight aignment and target acquisition. Both the front and the rear grip surfac- 21

When the pisto is fired, the recoi energy causes the barre and side assemby to move to the rear. After a short distance, the barre is forced down and is stopped by the operation of the barre cam and barre disconnector interface. The side continues its rearward trave under inertia, extracting the fired case from the barre and ejecting it through the ejection port. The recoi spring pushes the side forward, feeding the next cartridge from the magazine into the barre chamber. Continued forward movement causes the barre cam to raise the barre into its ocked position in the side and engage the striker with the cocking ever. The side is designed to remain open after the ast cartridge has been fired and the spent she casing ejected. LOAD CHECK WARNING: Keep your finger OFF OF THE TRIGGER and the barre pointed in a SAFE direction when checking to be certain your APX pisto is unoaded. To visuay check that your pisto is unoaded, carefuy foow the steps beow. Remove the magazine by depressing the magazine reease button. Retract the side and visuay inspect the cartridge chamber. The pisto is unoaded when no cartridge is visibe when ooking into the open chamber. For safety, you shoud... Aways visuay check to see that the chamber is unoaded. Never assume that a firearm is unoaded (even with a gun that is new and in its origina packaging).

Never point a firearm toward yoursef or another person. Lock the side in the open position and remove the magazine before handing the pisto to another person. Never take any pisto from another person uness the side has been ocked open, the magazine has been removed and the chamber has been visuay checked to confirm it is unoaded. LOCKING THE SLIDE to the rear WARNING: Keep your finger OFF OF THE TRIGGER and the barre pointed in a SAFE direction. WARNING: Aways keep your finger away from the ejection port. Locking the side in the open position can be accompished in 2 ways. 1) insert an empty magazine into the pisto. Retract the side unti the side ocks in the open position. Notice: The side wi be reeased when pued to the rear if a LOADED magazine is inserted. Notice: The side wi be reeased when pued to the rear if NO magazine is inserted. Notice: The side wi remain ocked in the open position when the magazine is removed. 2) with no magazine in the pisto, retract the side whie pressing up on the SLIDE STOP to ock the side in the open position. FIELD STRIPPING WARNING: Make sure the pisto is unoaded. If not, unoad it foowing the UN- LOADING instructions in this manua (page 15). Remove the magazine and ensure the pisto is unoaded by inspecting the barre s chamber. Retract the side and hod it whie depressing the striker deactivation button with a sma punch or the tip of a bapoint pen ti you hear a cick (disengagement of the striker). 25

Push and then rotate the take down ever. The recoi spring assemby can now be ifted out of the side. Tit the barre by grasping the cam ug and remove the barre from the side. Notice: No further disassemby is required for routine maintenance. Move the side forward and remove it from the frame. 26

when under spring pressure and the take down ever is not in the Locked position, the side can aunch off the frame. Check that the take down ever is correcty assembed with the ever in the vertica position. With the muzze pointed in a safe direction, retract the side and visuay confirm that the take down ever has rotated and shifted to the Locked position. BARREL OBSTRUCTIONS CHECK REASSEMBLY Reassembe by inserting the barre into the side. Tip the barre to insta the muzze end through the hoe in the front of the side, then ower the rear end into position in the side. Insta the recoi spring assemby with the arge fat end engaged into the recess in the barre cam ug. Notice: If the side is reeased WARNING: Catastrophic faiure can resut if a cartridge is fired into an obstructed barre. If you beieve the barre might be obstructed foow the FIELD STRIPPING operations and disassembe the pisto (page 26). After disassemby, ook down the barre and check to be sure there are no obstructions in the chamber or bore. If an obstruction in the barre is detected, a quaified gunsmith MUST remove the obstruction and inspect the pisto to ensure it is safe before it can be fired. 27
