3 SECTION 1 WELCOME To All Prospective Competitors Welcome to the 2018 Otago Rally. We have a challenging rally planned comprising approximately 280 km of special stages with over 90% on fast public gravel roads. Day One will be based around the Service Park on the shores of Lake Waihola and will comprise eight gravel special stages in that region before a tarmac Super Stage in central Dunedin. It should be noted that the format of the Super Stage has been changed for the first time in 20 years to cater for the needs of local businesses. Along with this change a decision has been made to limit tarmac specification tyres on the Super Stage to non-driving wheels i.e. on the front of a RWD car, on the rear of a FWD car and not permitted at all on a 4WD car. Gravel stages on Day One will include favourites Waipori Gorge, Whare Flat, and of course, the famed Kuri Bush. Day Two will be run to the north and west of Dunedin with Service Parks at Dunback and Middlemarch. There will be a brand new 14 km stage near Palmerston plus several other fast public road stages before finishing on the Nenthorn stage, now extended to 37 km. The event will finish with the traditional prizegiving dinner in the historic Dunedin Town Hall. Following feedback from last year there will be a significant upgrade in the menu. 1. Competitors are reminded of the new apparel standards put in place by Motorsport NZ. Details can be found on the Motorsport NZ website at ch%20a%20clothing%20amendment.pdf 2. After its introduction in 2013, Rallysafe tracking and timing technology will be used once again. Competitors who don t already have a wiring and fitting kit must order this from the Rallysafe website at least three weeks prior to the event. 3. As before there are several competitions making up the event with separate results published for each competition. Note: As per the 2018 NZRC portfolio the NZRC and Allcomers will be seeded on merit together in the same field followed by the Otago Classic 4WD Rally and Otago Classic Rally competitors. 4. All regulations and forms are available to be downloaded from the website If you wish to have a paper copy posted to you please contact Norman Oakley at or norman@oakleygray.co.nz 5. SS 11 Stoneburn 29 km Not run as a complete stage in this direction since 2010 (SS 5). First section is the reverse of SS 7 run in 2016, while the last half of the stage was the Golden Bar stage last run in this direction in 2016 (SS 6). Public roads with some gnarly crests through open farmland before finishing near the Macraes gold mine. SS 12 Ritchie Road 7 km A short public road stage run downhill. Last used in this direction in 2013 (SS 2). SS 13 Shag Valley Back Road 8 km Last used in this configuration in 2015 (SS 3). Runs uphill through tussock farmland. Fast finish. SS 14 Longdale 13 km This was SS 12 in Fast public road running through open tussock countryside. SS 15 Hartfield South 19 km This will likely be the fastest stage of the rally. A fall on blast on wide public roads parallel to the Taieri River. Last run in this direction in 2010 (SS 14). Rally Guide 2018 Page 20 of 32

21 SS 16 Bald Hill 11 km This is the Moonlight stage in reverse. Fast wide public roads before a tighter downhill finish. Last run in this direction in 2010 (SS 12). SS 17 Nenthorn 37 km A great way to finish, this is an extended version of the Nenthorn stage that Hayden Paddon won in a BDA in This stage has it all fast start with twisty sections in the middle and towards the end.
