5 Sportsmanship ing Hints (One team is way ahead of the other team) Winning Teachable Moment please use this situation as a "teachable moment to teach sportsmanship As a Christian program whose focus is on fun balanced with competitiveness and sportsmanship, we ask each coach to consider the feelings of children on an opposing team that cannot compete while your team continues to score and increasingly embarrass the opposing team players. Such undermines hope, self-confidence and a positive self-image. Winning - Sportsmanship Moment A winning coach can do the following to allow the losing team to be more competitive and fun filled. Please do not wait for the referees to request such as they will when the score is increasingly and embarrassingly lop-sided. Sportsmanship Defensive Strategies 1. Direct your players to set up in the lane to allow the other team to shoot more easily from the outside. 2. Direct your players to play loose defense do not raise their arms/hands or press 3. Reassign your worse defensive players to cover their best offensive players. Sportsmanship Offense Strategies 1. Shoot from the outside (take long shots) 2. Direct your worse offensive players to shoot the ball first when they bring it down the court 3. Play your worse players as much as you can and to bring down the ball down the court 4. Do not fast break. 5. Pass the ball 3 times before shooting Losing - Sportsmanship Moment 1. Losing asks to stop the game to speak to the Head Referee and requests that the scoreboard be turned off. 2. Head Referee meets with both coaches advising both that the scoreboard will be turned off and asking the Winning to direct his players to show sportsmanship offensively and defensively as directed above. 3. 6 High School Team Zero Tolerance Agreement The purpose of Kingdom Basketball is to offer fun playing basketball in obedience to God s love for children and their families. Therefore any disrespect for that purpose will not be tolerated. This includes attitudes, actions and attire. We, Team #, in the League agree to respect the game environment provided by Kingdom Basketball. If not, the Team or the offending player will be given one warning after which the Team - es and/or Players - will be suspended from play for the remainder of the game and possibly the season after multigame warnings.
