(MORROW) 74 On Brooks: Second-year player who will enter 2002 as a player to watch on the Terp offensive front earned a starting job at left tackle in the spring of last year as a redshirt freshman a Freshman All-American last year a very technical blocker who, despite his youth, has a firm grasp of the offense and blocking schemes takes pride in finishing his blocks has good feet and ideal size for his position (Redshirt Freshman): Started all 11 games as well the Orange Bowl... graded out as the Terps top lineman once and the second-best lineman three times (Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech and Clemson)... (vs. NCSU) started at left tackle and played 51 snaps... (vs. Duke) had one of the finest games of his young career... graded out as Maryland s top offensive lineman along with Melvin Fowler... registered a teamhigh six big blocks (pancakes, downfield, etc.)... offense averaged 7.7 yards per play and totaled 34 first downs... had an excellent block to spring Shaun Hill for his 57-yard touchdown run... nominated for ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week... played 56 snaps... (vs. WFU) nominee for ACC Rookie of the Week... graded out as the Terps third-best performer and played 66 snaps (Freshman): Redshirt season. Lamar Bryant OFFENSIVE GUARD JR.-2V CLINTON, MD. (CROSSLAND) 73 On Bryant: Junior who is one of four returning starters on the offensive line one of the strongest players on the team an Iron Terp with a 702 strength index and the third-highest squat by a Maryland offensive lineman ever (670 lbs.) has good feet and excels at pulling (Sophomore): Started all 11 games including the Orange Bowl... graded out as the team s third-best lineman vs. West Virginia and Virginia... played a season-high 88 snaps vs. Clemson... (EPHRATA/LACKAWANNA JC) On Chance: Senior who could challenge for playing time at cornerback athletic enough to cover and big enough to be strong in run support a two-year starter at safety in junior college and could play free safety or corner for the Terps (Junior): Saw action in 10 games... finished the season with 13 tackles (10 solo)... spent the majority of his time on special teams (vs. EMU) made two tackles... deflected a punt on special teams... (MORRISTOWN) On Cochran: Player who will get a chance to compete for increased playing time at the LEO position (outside linebacker/rush end) this year enters spring at the top of the depth chart at LEO an Iron Terp with the fifth-highest strength index on the team (735) and second-highest among linebackers posted a 685-lb. squat (Redshirt Freshman): Played in 10 games... finished the year with 12 tackles (five solo) and one TFL... (PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA) On Condo: Second-year player who heads into spring as the backup at the LEO linebacker and the starting long snapper after a year manning that position performed well in his first season at long snapper will be challenged by Jesse Kluttz (Sophomore): Played in all 11 games and the Orange Bowl, starting every game as the team s long snapper helped prevent opponents from blocking a single punt or field goal attempt all year made three tackles (two solo) (Freshman): Redshirt season / On Cox: Thirdyear starter at cornerback who will enter 02 as the Terrapins most experienced defensive back listed No. 1 on the depth chart at one corner spot after starting 19 games over the last two years a strong corner who excels in press coverage schemes has the ability to throw receivers off of their initial routes an Iron Terp with a 330-lb. bench press, 550-lb. squat and a /2-inch vertical jump a sure tackler who is solid in run support. Curome Cox CORNERBACK JR.-2V ARLINGTON, VA. (GONZAGA COLLEGE H.S.) (Sophomore): Started in 10 games, played in all 11, as well as the Orange Bowl... made 34 tackles, 29 of which were unassisted had three interceptions and three pass breakups ranked 77th in the NCAA in interceptions per game with (vs. CU) intercepted his third pass of the year and returned it to the Clemson two-yard line... the INT led to the Terps third touchdown of the game and put the contest out of reach at (vs. TSU) intercepted a pass for the second straight game... also totaled four solo tackles... (vs. FSU) turned in a solid effort, with three solo tackles and an interception... the interception was his first of the season and led to a field goal... (vs. GT) did not start for the first time in 2001 due to a shoulder injury... played in the second half and was in on four tackles... (NORTHWESTERN HS) 58 On Dickerson: Promising second-year linebacker who benefited from a full spring in 2001 hard-nosed player who runs well and has dramatically improved his size and strength since enrolling at Maryland showed promise in his play on the defensive scout team last year (Freshman): Redshirt season named defensive scout team Player of the Year for his work on the practice field. Chris Downs TAILBACK SR.-1V PHILADELPHIA, PA. (MALVERN PREP/VALLEY FORGE MILITARY) On Downs: An elusive runner who could see playing time at tailback was used a year ago on special teams and stands to see action on cover units again in (Redshirt Junior): Played in the final six games of the season as well as the Orange Bowl was primarily used on special teams but saw action in two games (Duke and Troy State) at tailback rushed four times for 14 yards also returned one kick 21 yards (Junior): Redshirt season. Junior College (Freshman/Sophomore): A 2000 graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne, Pa.... a two-year starter who totaled 2,013 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns... rushed for 925 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 87 carries in 1999 after totaling 1,088 yards and 11 touchdowns on 148 carries in junior college coach was Jim Burner. (BENJAMIN MAYS) On Dumas: Junior lineman with ideal tackle size who adds depth and experience to the offensive line was switched from defensive line to the offensive line during fall of 1999 an athletic player for his position with long arms and good feet (Sophomore): Played in all 11 regular season games and the Orange Bowl as a backup at tackle came in for one of the more memorable moments of the season as he was called into the NC State game on a key fourth-and-five conversion on the game-winning drive after two of his teammates collided and were knocked out of the game played 23 snaps of that ACC-clinching contest (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in five games, all at tackle missed two games after suffering a high ankle sprain of his right foot. (KINGSWAY) On Fiddler: A physical fullback who proved his worth at the position in 2001 a strong isolation blocker who also has solid pass catching skills forms a strong trio at the spot with fellow junior James Lynch and senior Chad Killian played linebacker and fullback in high school, and was originally slated to play defense at Maryland, but was placed on the offensive side of the ball during fall of his true freshman campaign (Sophomore): Saw action in all 11 regular season games as well as the Orange Bowl rushed four times for 13 yards (vs. EMU) rushed for 13 yards on three carries, the first time he has carried the ball at Maryland... (vs. UNC) made several key blocks, especially in the second half... had a great block on Scooter Monroe s touchdown (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in each of the last six games, primarily on special teams made one unassisted tackle.
