Bruins Reach Tournament For 30th Consecutive Year UCLA earned its 30th consecutive and 40th overall NCAA Tournament berth by winning the Pac-12 Championship and earning a No. 6 seed in the tournament. The Bruins' NCAA streak is the second-longest active streak in the nation behind Virginia (32 straight appearances), and their 40 all-time NCAA appearances are second only to Saint Louis' 47. UCLA has an all-time NCAA Tournament record of with 13 College Cup appearances and national championships in 1985, 1990, 1997 and UCLA vs. Tournament Field The Bruins have played six matches against NCAA Tournament teams this season and own a record against those teams. UCLA defeated Virginia, No. 11 seed Tulsa and Washington all by scores of 1-0 and lost 3-2 to 13th-seeded New Mexico and 2-1 at home against Washington. The Bruins also played to a 2-2 draw at second-seeded Maryland back on Aug. 31. In The Rankings UCLA fi nished the regular season ranked No. 4 by Soccer America and the NSCAA. The Bruins are also ranked No. 3 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 5 by College Soccer News. In the NCAA RPI, UCLA fi nished the regular season at No. 5. San Diego is ranked No. 36 by Top Drawer Soccer and fi nished the regular season ranked No. 81 in the NCAA RPI. How They Got Here: UCLA UCLA received an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament after winning their second consecutive Pac-12 Championship. The Bruins earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament and a bye in the fi rst round by virtue of their overall record and conference record. UCLA fi nished the season winning fi ve of its last six matches and has suffered only one loss in its last 17 matches. How They Got Here: San Diego San Diego advanced to the NCAA second round after defeating Cal State Northridge on the road by a score of 2-1 in double overtime. Connor Brandt scored the game-winner in the 103rd minute to give the Toreros the win. The Toreros earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning the West Coast Conference with a regular season record of San Diego is making their 13th overall trip to the NCAA Tournament and fi rst since 2009 when the Toreros lost to UC Santa Barbara 1-0 in the fi rst round. Head coach Seamus McFadden was named WCC Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career while the Toreros landed 10 players on the All-WCC team, led by fi rst-team selection and leading goal-scorer Dan Delgado. San Diego has a record of all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Series With San Diego The Bruins have a record of all-time against the Toreros. The two teams met last year down in San Diego where the Bruins prevailed, 1-0, in overtime on a Kelyn Rowe golden goal. In 2010, the two sides met at Drake Stadium where UCLA again defeated San Diego, 3-2, in overtime. Evan Raynr scored the game-winner in overtime while Rowe and Victor Chavez added goals of their own. The Bruins have won the last three meetings against San Diego and are unbeaten in their last six matches against the Toreros. UCLA also owns a 3-3 record against the Toreros in NCAA Tournament play. The two schools last met in the second round back in 2001 in a match that resulted in a 4-0 UCLA win. Kevin Bick put the Aztecs ahead, 1-0, with a goal in the 54th minute, but UCLA responded quickly, getting the equalizer just two minutes later when Ryan Hollingshead headed in a cross from Evan Raynr for the tying goal. Then in the 73rd minute, the Bruins found the go-ahead goal when Reed Williams took a great through ball from Raynr and blasted one far post for his team-leading seventh goal of the year, giving UCLA the 2-1 win and the Pac-12 championship. In the 13 years that the Pac-12 has competed in men's soccer, UCLA has won the conference eight times, by far the most amongst the Pac-12 schools. NCAA Experience 12 UCLA players have had at least one game of NCAA Tournament experience in their time at the school. Senior captain Ryan Hollingshead and senior Evan Raynr have the most Tournament experience of the group, playing in 10 NCAA matches in their careers. Junior forward Victor Chavez has three NCAA Tournament goals in seven matches to lead the team while Hollingshead leads the squad with fi ve p. 1 of 3

2 assists in NCAA Tournament play, giving him a team-high nine points in the postseason. Hollingshead was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team last season after scoring a goal and recording four assists in the 2011 Tournament. UCLA has made it to at least the Quarterfi nal stage in the last three seasons with a College Cup appearance in Ryan Hollingshead Named Pac-12 Player of the Year On Tuesday, senior midfi elder Ryan Hollingshead became the fi fth UCLA player all-time to be named the Pac-12 Player of the Year. Hollingshead, a senior captain from Granite Bay, Calif., joins Matt Taylor (2003), Patrick Ianni (2004), Michael Stephens (2008) and Kelyn Rowe (2011) as UCLA's Pac-12 Players of the Year. This season, Hollingshead leads the Bruins with 20 points (6 g, 8 a) on the year, good for third best in the conference, and is second in the conference with eight assists. Hollingshead has started all 18 matches for UCLA this year and was named to National Teams of the Week on four separate occasions. Jorge Salcedo Named Pac-12 Coach of the Year In addition to Hollingshead earning Pac-12 Player of the Year honors, head coach Jorge Salcedo took home his second consecutive Pac-12 Coach of the Year award after leading the Bruins to their fourth conference title in fi ve years in UCLA only dropped two matches this season, despite playing one of the toughest schedules in the country, and went undefeated on the road with an mark. This is the fourth time that Salcedo has been named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, winning the award in 2011, 2008 and He currently has a record of in his time at UCLA and has a conference record of Salcedo also starred for UCLA as a player, scoring the deciding penalty kick in the 1990 NCAA Championship game as a freshman to give UCLA its second national title. He was also a fi rst-team NSCAA All-American in Nine Bruins Named to the All-Pac-12 Team The Bruins also landed nine players on the Pac-12 All-Conference team in 2012, highlighted by four fi rst-team selections. Seniors Ryan Hollingshead and Fernando Monge, junior Reed Williams and sophomore Leo Stolz all earned fi rst-team All-Pac-12 honors while seniors Matt Wiet and Evan Raynr, and juniors Victor Chavez and Joe Sofi a were named to the second team. Sophomore goalie Earl Edwards received honorable mention. This is the third straight year that Hollingshead, Chavez and Raynr made the All-Conference team while it marks the second time that Williams, Wiet and Sofi a have been named to the team. Edwards, Monge and Stolz all received Pac-12 honors for the fi rst time in their careers. Pac-12 Leaderboard Several UCLA players fi nd themselves at the top or near the top of the leaderboard in major statistical categories in the Pac-12. Senior Evan Raynr leads the Pac-12 with nine assists and 0.50 assists per game. Pac-12 Player of the Year Ryan Hollingshead is second to Raynr in assists and assists per game with eight and 0.47 respectively. Hollingshead is also tied for third in the conference with three game-winning goals and is third in points with 20. In addition, sophomore Leo Stolz is tied for third in the conference with seven assists on the year. Sophomore goalie Earl Edwards is second in the Pac-12 in both GAA (0.96) and save percentage (.797). Nationally, Raynr is tied for 15th in assists while Hollingshead and Stolz are tied for 26th and 45th respectively. Defending Drake The Bruins hold a record of 15-4 in NCAA Tournament games at Drake Stadium, and are all-time, good for a.807 winning percentage. Last season, the Bruins went at Drake Stadium, including two wins in the NCAA 2nd and 3rd rounds over Delaware and Rutgers respectively. This season, they are at Drake. The Bruins began playing their home games full-time at Drake Stadium in Five Bruins Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Team UCLA has landed fi ve players on the 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic Team. Earning fi rst-team All- Academic honors were Ryan Hollingshead and Joe Sofi a. It was the third straight year that Hollingshead made the Pac-12 All-Academic Team while Sofi a earned All-Academic honors for the second straight year. Evan Raynr earned second-team honors for the third year in a row while Reed Williams and sophomore forward Reed McKenna received honorable mention. Road Warriors UCLA is unbeaten in their last 17 road matches dating back to September 18 of last year, going in that time frame. Four Bruins Named To TDS's "100 Players To Watch" List Four UCLA players have been named to Top Drawer Soccer's updated "100 Players to Watch" list (sophomores, juniors and seniors only). Midfi elder Ryan Hollingshead came in at No. 11 on the list while defenders Joe Sofi a and Matt Wiet made the list as well.sofi a was listed at No. 46 while Wiet came in at No. 54. Senior midfi elder Fernando Monge also made the list, being named the No. 72 player to watch. In addition, fi ve UCLA players were named to Top Drawer Soccer's "Top 20 Players to Watch in the Pac- 12" list. Hollingshead (No. 1), Sofi a (No. 5), Wiet (No. 6) and Monge (No. 8) made that list as well while Victor Munoz came in at No. 15. Finally, freshman midfi elder Grady Howe was named the No. 10 Freshman to Watch by the publication. Hollingshead Named Finalist for Senior CLASS Award Senior midfi elder Ryan Hollingshead has been named as one of the 10 fi nalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award. Hollingshead is on track to graduate after the Fall quarter after just three years and one quarter and has twice earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors. He has also volunteered for UCLA's I'm Going To College program, giving campus tours and doing autograph signings for the collegiate community outreach effort, Adopt-A-Classroom, in which players correspond and meet with elementary school children, and Marathon Kids, a school and community-based fi tness program. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. 16 Coaching Staff Jorge Salcedo Head Coach 9th Year UCLA '02 Former UCLA All-American Jorge Salcedo is in his ninth season as head coach for the Bruins, making him the second-longest tenured men's soccer head coach in UCLA's NCAA history. A product of UCLA's strong soccer tradition, Salcedo has maintained the Bruins' standard for success, winning six conference titles and guiding his teams to NCAA Tournament appearances each year. He signed the No. 1 recruiting classes in the nation in 2010, 2006 and 2004, and those players produced results, advancing all the way to the NCAA Championship game in the 2006 season, to the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010, and to the College Cup Semifinals in Over the last fi ve seasons, Salcedo's teams have earned four Pac-12 titles and lost just six conference games ( record). The 2012 squad secured UCLA's second consecutive Pac-12 title and saw a conference-best four players earn first-team All- Pac-12 honors. Salcedo also took home his second straight Pac-12 Coach of the Year award and saw Ryan Hollingshead win the Pac-12 Player of the Year under his leadership, marking the fourth player Salcedo has coached to Conference Player of the Year honors (Patrick Ianni, 2004; Michael Stephens, 2008; Kelyn Rowe, 2011). The 2011 Bruins ran the table in conference play, going 10-0 and allowing just two goals in those 10 games. Salcedo, who earned his 100th career victory when UCLA clinched the conference title on Nov. 4, was named the Pac-12's Coach of the Year. The Bruins then capped off the 2011 season with a long run in the NCAA Tournament that culminated in the school's 13th berth in the NCAA College Cup. The 2010 Bruins won 16 games, the most during Salcedo's tenure, and advanced to the NCAA quarterfi nals for the second consecutive year. In 2009, Salcedo's Bruins won their second-straight Pac-10 Championship, and placed two players on the All- America team. Additionally, a school record-tying five players were selected in the MLS SuperDraft at the conclusion of the season. In 2008, Salcedo guided UCLA to the Pac-10 Championship and was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the second time in his tenure. Salcedo's 2007 team extended UCLA's post-season appearance streak to 25 consecutive years, advancing to the NCAA second round. The Bruins, who finished with a record, scored in the classroom, with 24 of 30 team members making the Director's Honor Roll during the school year. The 2006 Bruins faced an uphill battle with injuries to several starters throughout the season, but they fought through the adversity and ended a successful post-season run in the title game with a final season record of In 2005, Salcedo's Bruins recorded a record and ranked amongst the best in the nation in team defense, allowing just 14 goals and posting a team goals against average of The Bruins also captured the Pac-10 title for the fourth year in a row and earned a No. 5 seeding in the NCAA Tournament. During his first season, Salcedo earned Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year honors after leading UCLA to its third-straight conference title. Salcedo was UCLA's assistant coach from and helped lead the Bruins to the 2002 NCAA Championship and to two Pac-10 team championships. In 2002, he served as acting head coach in a crucial road victory at Stanford in November that helped the Bruins capture their first-ever Pac-10 title. He also served as acting head coach in the spring of 2002 in the coaching transition between Todd Saldaña and Tom Fitzgerald and had served in a similar capacity after Fitzgerald announced his resignation. Salcedo, who is a scout for the U.S. National Team, was the head coach of the 2002 U-16 SoCal ODP State team and was also the assistant coach of the U-17 team in The Cerritos, Calif. native had an illustrious career at UCLA from Salcedo was a four-year starter, playing 74 games and tallying six goals and seven assists for 19 points. As a freshman, he scored the decisive penalty kick in the shootout during the 1990 NCAA Championship game to give UCLA its second national title. Salcedo played for five years in Major League Soccer (MLS). In his fi rst season in the league, he was a starter for the Los Angeles Galaxy and helped take his team to the MLS Championship game. He also played for Chicago, where he served as team co-captain, Columbus and Tampa Bay before returning to the Galaxy in Prior to his MLS career, he played with the LA Salsa in the APSL and then for F.C. Morelia of the Mexican First Division. Salcedo was also a member of the U.S. National Team program, earning three caps with the full national team and captaining the U-17 team at the 1989 World Youth Championships and the U-20 team at the 1990 CONCACAF Tournament. Salcedo has had extensive ties to the Bruin program for many years. He graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor s Degree in Political Science and was part of three of the Bruins four NCAA Championship teams. He was a ball boy for UCLA during its first championship year in 1985, scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 1990 Championship game and was an assistant coach for the 2002 squad. In addition, his father Hugo was a UCLA assistant coach from and a member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic team and will be serving as the FIFA Chairman of the 2014 World Cup. 17 Coaching Staff Eddie Soto Assistant Coach 7th Year Cal State Fullerton '95 Nick Carlin-Voigt Assistant Coach 1st Year Kalamazoo College '04 Patrick Seymour Asst./Goalkeeper Coach 4th Year Chico State '00 Former Cal State Fullerton All-American Eddie Soto is in his seventh season as UCLA assistant coach and his 12th season overall as an NCAA Division I coach. In his fi rst season at UCLA, he helped guide the Bruins to the NCAA College Cup fi nals, and in the last fi ve seasons, the Bruins have won the Pac-12 title four times, advanced to the NCAA quarterfi nals three times, and advanced to the College Cup in Since Soto started coaching at UCLA in 2006, 17 players have been selected in the MLS draft, including seven fi rst rounders. In addition to coaching at UCLA, Soto is also the head coach of the U-18 LA Galaxy Academy team. He took over a last place Galaxy squad midway through the 2011 season, and in just one year led them to the U.S. Development Academy SoCal division title in Soto coached three U-18 Galaxy Academy players, Jack McBean, Oscar Sorto and Jose Villarreal, to homegrown contracts with the Galaxy as well. Soto also helped coach the Galaxy U-17s to the 2011 Generation adidas Cup championship and was previously an assistant coach for the U-16 Galaxy Academy team that won the 2011 National Championship. In addition to coaching at UCLA and the LA Galaxy Academy, Soto is also the head coach of the U.S. Beach Soccer National Team. Soto was the assistant coach for the men's team at Cal State Fullerton from and was hired again as the lead assistant in He was also the lead assistant for the women's team at Long Beach State from and the head assistant at Long Beach City College in 1997 when the women's team won its first championship. Soto also has vast experience coaching at the club level, totaling 13 years as a coach in the prestigious Coast Soccer League. He coached former UCLA All-Americans Zach Wells and Matt Taylor at Irvine Strikers and also coached the NHB futbol club for fi ve years. An All-American at Cal State Fullerton in 1992 and 1993, Soto is the No. 2 scorer in Titan history, totaling 96 points and 38 goals from He still holds the single-season record for goals in a season with 18, set in In 1993, he led the Titans to the NCAA semifi nals for the fi rst time in school history. His team also advanced to the NCAA Quarterfi nals in In 2007, Soto was named to the MPSF 15-Year Anniversary fi rst team. Upon graduating from Cal State Fullerton in 1995 with a B.A. in Kinesiology, Soto was selected in the initial MLS Draft in 1996 by the NY/NJ MetroStars and again in the supplemental draft in 1998 by the San Jose Clash. He also played for the Orange County Zodiac of the A-League, the Los Angeles Cobras of the USISL and ended his career with the USA Pro Beach Soccer Team. The Cerritos native was a two-time Parade All-American and the 1990 CIF 3-A Player of the Year at Cerritos HS, where he was teammates with UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo. He was also a member of the NHB futbol club that won the 1991 National Championship and a member of the U.S. U-18 and U-20 National Teams. Soto, who has a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" Coaching License, resides in Seal Beach with his wife, Stephanie, and his children, Fabrizio, Wyatt and Isabela. Nick Carlin-Voigt is in his fi rst season as UCLA's assistant coach after spending the previous fi ve seasons as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at George Mason. Carlin-Voigt is considered one of the best recruiters in the country and while at George Mason, was responsible for day-to-day operations of the program, including fi eld player development, scouting, attendance marketing, scheduling, sports performance and academic affairs. Carlin-Voigt is also considered one of the few soccer fi tness coaches in college soccer. In his fi rst season at UCLA, Carlin-Voigt helped guide the Bruins to their second straight Pac-12 championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Having emerged as one of the most talented and respected assistant coaches in the country, Carlin-Voigt helped assemble three consecutive recruiting classes at George Mason that were ranked in the top 40 according to College Soccer News ( ). In 2008, he helped coach the Patriots to their fi rst ever CAA Conference Championship and in 2011, he helped recruit a roster that led the CAA in All-Conference selections. Carlin-Voigt has helped recruit 12 players with U.S. Youth National Team experience since 2008 and seven that have gone on to sign professional contracts since Carlin-Voigt has also studied training and coaching methods at professional clubs such as Chelsea, Fullham, Liverpool and Santos and observed the U.S. National Team preparations during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In the spring of 2012, he spent part of the preseason coaching with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer and has coached with the D.C. United Youth Academy Program as well, where he helped develop and train U.S. National Team Goalkeeper and DC United starter Bill Hamid. Carlin-Voigt began his coaching career at his alma mater, Kalamazoo College, coaching there as an assistant coach for one season before becoming a volunteer goalkeeper coach for the men's team at Western Michigan University. As a player at Kalamazoo, Carlin-Voigt earned NSCAA All-America honors and graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics, concentrating in international commerce. Considered one of the top goalkeepers in Division III soccer, he was a two-time team captain for Kalamazoo, a four-year starter and holds the Kalamazoo record for fewest goals allowed in a season. After he graduated in 2004, Carlin-Voigt had a short stint with Cruz Azul Oaxaca of the Mexican Second Division that was cut short due to a knee injury. From 2001 to 2004, he played semi-pro soccer for the Kalamazoo Kingdom of the USL Premier Development League, where he set franchise records as a goalkeeper for wins and shutouts during the 2004 season. He also saw time on trial with Osnabruck of the German second division in Carlin-Voigt holds a U.S. Soccer Federation "B" Coaching License. Patrick Seymour joined UCLA in 2009 as the team's goalkeeper coach. During his three years on staff, the Bruins have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfi nals all three seasons and to the College Cup in Seymour coached both Brian Perk and Brian Rowe to All-American seasons in 2009 and 2011 respectively. Rowe also led UCLA to a shutout streak of eight games in 2011, which tied the school record. In 2012, Seymour also helped Earl Edwards earn All-Pac-12 honors for the fi rst time in his career. As the head goalkeeper coach for the Cal-South ODP program and member of the goalkeeping staff for the Region IV ODP program, Seymour has worked with many of the top goalkeepers in the West. Over 10 years, he has trained and helped develop over a dozen youth national and regional team members and won three national titles with his teams. Seymour is also the head goalkeeper coach coach for the Galaxy Alliance soccer club and has worked with Santa Clarita United, Santa Monica United and the Westside Breakers. He also coached the soccer team and currently serves as an associate professor in the Kinesiology department at Santa Monica College. Seymour played at Chico State from and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Political Science. During his senior season, he helped lead his team to a Top 20 national ranking. As a youth player growing up in the San Francisco area, he played in three State Cup fi nals and was a member of the Cal-North ODP state pool from Seymour holds both a USSF national and goalkeeping national license and, along with his Bachelor's degree, holds a Master's degree in Exercise Science.
