3 AUCKLAND ULTIMATE WINTER LEAGUE COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS Playing Rules of the Game All games will be played according to the 2013 WFDF Rules of Ultimate. Rules may be downloaded from A standard 175g Ultrastar disc will be used. Rules exceptions to WFDF rules Team Size and Gender Split: Teams are 7 a-side as per standard rules. We recommend about players per team you may need more if there are going to be players away for some weeks. The gender split is standard mixed ultimate 4 men/3 women or 3 men/4 women offence decides and defence must match. You can field a team of 6 if you are short of players without defaulting a game, but the opposition does not have to match this. Anything less than 6 players is a default. If playing with 6, the gender split must be 3 men and 3 women. Timeouts Teams can call a maximum of three timeouts per game and a maximum of two timeouts in any one half. Timeouts may not be called once the time cap is on. i.e. Teams CANNOT call a timeout after the horn for soft cap has sounded. Eligibility Anyone is eligible to play in the AU Winter League. All participants will become members of Auckland Ultimate and New Zealand Ultimate as per the rules of those organisations. Players still at Primary or Intermediate school must have a parent/guardian present during the game. Entries Entries are taken through the AU registration system. There is a maximum of 12 teams.

4 Registration Each team shall register all players on the team in the Auckland Ultimate/Ultimate Central system. A player may only be registered to one team and may only play for that team during the league. Players cannot play unless they are properly registered. Teams may add players to their team throughout the league, as long as they properly register them prior to the player taking the field. If a player picks up for one team (and therefore becomes registered for that team), that player may not pick up for any other team during the league. Fees Entry fees are payable on a team basis. All fees must be paid prior to the commencement of the first game of the league/tournament. An invoice may be issued upon request. No teams will be able to participate with outstanding invoices. The fee for the league is $550 per team. Team paying by 31 st July pay $500 (saving $50). Payment can be made to Auckland Ultimate by bank transfer to this account: with Winter League and your team name as a reference. Game Times and Duration Games are played to 15 points, with half time at 8. There is a time cap in operation to ensure games finish on time. o Soft cap will occur after 75 minutes. Teams will finish the point being played and add 1 to the highest score. This is the new point cap. o Hard cap will occur at 90 minutes. The will end immediately. If the disc is in the air at the sound of the hooter, the result of the pass will stand, but there will be no further play. o Please note that the games can never go over 15 points. If soft cap goes and a team scores to make it 15, the game is over there is no need to add one and play to 16. During playoff games, if the scores are tied at the end of the game, play will continue until one team scores (ie sudden death). Competition Format Draws will be done by Auckland Ultimate once entries have closed. Competition format will be dictated by the number of teams entered. Format will be either be a round robin with playoffs or pool play followed by playoffs. Where possible, a final match will always be included in the draw.

5 Points System The following points system will be used in Round Robin or Pool-play games: Win 3 points Draw 1 points Loss 0 point Default -1 points Note that when calculating score differential for tie-breakers, the score for the defaulted game will be the average score differential for all other games played in that round. Tie Breakers In the event of a number of teams finishing a round tied on the same number of points for qualification to playoffs, the following guidelines will be used as tie breakers: 1. Number of games won, counting only games between the teams that are tied 2. Number of games won, counting only games in the current round 3. Goal difference, counting only games between the teams that are tied. 4. Goal difference, counting games against all common opponents 5. Goals scored per game, counting only games between the teams that are tied. 6. Goals scored per game, counting games against all common opponents. 7. Fewest games forfeited. 8. Disc accuracy contest Results/Officiating/Duties All teams have a responsibility for maintaining accurate score keeping during their games. As per the Rules of Ultimate, all players are responsible for making their own calls on the field. Players on the side-line should not be involved in discussions around calls unless their input is asked for by the players involved. At the conclusion of games each team must submit their score via the online AU scoring system, which includes the score of the game and the spirit score. Spirit Scoring. Teams should refer to the official guide to Spirit Scoring. It is not acceptable to rank a team based on how nice they were on the field. Uniforms All teams should play in a uniform colour. All teams should also have an alternative colour available to wear in case of colour clashes. At the very least, teams should be able to wear light and dark. Appropriate footwear is required for player participation (cleats or running shoes). Players will not be allowed to take the field with bare feet. Cleats must be moulded or have plastic sprigs no metal cleats are allowed and must also be clean of mud and dirt as per the turf rules.

6 Disputes Resolution In all cases, if your team has a concern or disagreement with the opposition, this should be resolved during or following the game on a team-to-team basis. The league director can mediate when it comes to disputes on the day of play. If a satisfactory result is not achieved between the two parties, an appeal may be sent in writing to the Auckland Ultimate for review. First Aid Teams are responsible for their own first aid. Ice will be available at the field The captain or other players on the team should be aware of any special medical conditions of a player. Defaults/Late Arrivals If a team arrives late, the following process should be used: o For every 3 minutes that a team is late, 1 goal will be awarded against that team and the game can be commenced at any time when the late team is ready. After 30 minutes, the game is considered a default. The captain of the team is required to notify the Winter League Director and the opposition captain if a default in unavoidable with a minimum of 5 hours notice.
