1 GREATER IOWA SCHOLARSHIP BOWLING TOUR OUR 25th ANNIVERSARY SEASON OF COMPETITION SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2016 CADILLAC LANES - WATERLOO, IOWA OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER EVENT # 243 THANKS TO OUR TITLE SPONSOR STORM BOWLING EQUIPMENT SPECIAL THANKS TO TROPHY KING OFFICIAL AWARDS SPONSOR OF THE GISBT IN MORSE RETURNS TO WINNER S CIRCLE AFTER 4 YEAR ABSENCE FINALS STRIKE BARRAGE RESULTS IN DOMINANT VICTORY MORSE SCORES EMOTIONAL, DOMINANT VICTORY IN WATERLOO Adam Morse turned in the greatest performance of his life at this month s GISBT event. And with that, came the end of a successful, yet frustrating 46-month stretch. Since he debuted on tour back in September 2011, Morse has become one of the tour s main draws. Since then, he s racked up a whopping 18 match play finals appearances, and more than $4,100 in career earnings. However, he had just a lone tour title to show for those efforts and that came in November 2012 nearly 4 years ago. All that ended with his incredible performance at this month s tour stop. His qualifying effort was nothing extraordinary it was just enough to qualify for the finals with only 8 pins to spare. But his amazing finals exhibition had the crowd buzzing. The 20 year-old from West Des Moines, Iowa opened the finals with games of 278 and 248 before reeling off a 300 game. The result was a brilliant 826 series the highest of his career. From there, he continued strongly, and posted a runaway victory winning by 170 pins. KEY DECISION LEADS TO FIRST WIN SINCE NOVEMBER 2012 Morse s victory was keyed by an unorthodox decision that directly led to his ability to average for his match play round. He switched to a urethane bowling ball for match play, and it resulted in 7 wins, and just a single loss. That loss came in the position round when a final frame 7-10 split led to a defeat at the hands of runner-up Briley Haugh. Morse averaged for his 16 games. In becoming a multiple champion on tour, he took home a $400 scholarship. Congratulations, Adam!

2 FIELD OF 109 COMPETES IN WATERLOO A star studded field of 109 players (73 boys and 36 girls) competed in this month s event in Waterloo. The starting contingent contained 11 past champions, as well as 20 players who were enjoying their GISBT debut. We welcome all of our new and returning members! Players representing 11 states (Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio, Alaska, Colorado, South Dakota, Wisconsin and North Carolina), as well as Canada and Puerto Rico competed in the event. HAUGH SHARP IN RUNNER-UP FINISH Briley Haugh, 17, enjoyed a solid day on the lanes. The Faribault, Minnesota resident led for most of the qualifying round before being overtaken by eventual 3rd place finish Seth Sikkema. From there, he maintained solid form during the finals, and eventually held onto the runner-up spot. Haugh posted a solid 6-2 match play record. He earned a $300 scholarship for his performance. This marked his 2nd trip into the GISBT match play round. In March 2015 he made his match play debut by finishing in 8th place at the Davenport, Iowa stop as a part of the 2015 Big Weekend, but this was easily his most impressive finish on tour. SIKKEMA BURSTS ONTO SCENE WITH 3rd PLACE FINISH For the past 3 seasons, tour players have pointed to Sikkema as one of the GISBT s rising young talents. This month, that potential turned into a great performance. The 17 year-old from Fulton, Illinois set a fast pace in qualifying by averaging for his first 8 games. That allowed him to surge into the very first match play finals of his career, and it also earned him the high qualifier medal. The powerful 2-hander continued to look sharp in the finals, and an impressive position round defeat over past champion Kyle Krol allowed Sikkema to jump into 3rd place. It was a breakthrough performance for a player who seems destined for stardom on the scholarship scene. PAST CHAMP KROL TAKES 4th Kyle Krol was this month s 4th place finisher. The 21 year-old from Tinley Park, Illinois took home a $225 scholarship for his efforts. Krol was one of 2 past champions who qualified for this month s match play finals, and it was the 10th finals appearance of his stellar career. With this month s finish, as well as a runner-up showing at the season opener in Cedar Rapids, Krol grabbed the early lead in this season s Bowler of the Year race. FREESE FINISHES 5th Brandon Freese, 18 returned to the finals for the 2nd time, and it resulted in his best finish on tour a 5th place showing that netted a $200 scholarship. Previously, Freese finished 6th at the January 2015 tour event. The Marshalltown, Iowa native is a freshman at Iowa Central College this season. WIEGAND FINISHES 6th IN MATCH PLAY DEBUT Ray Wiegand was one of 2 first time match play finalists in this month s boy s match play field. The 2- hander from Marshalltown, Iowa wound up finishing 6th. It was a breakthrough performance for the promising 15 year-old. He earned a $170 scholarship for his day s work. The right-hander found his form midway through qualifying by stringing games of 245, 289 and 287; that resulted in a huge 821 series.

3 DENTON BAGS 7th Alex Denton was this month s 7th place finisher. The Waverly, Iowa resident earned a $140 scholarship for his performance. The 19 year-old southpaw was appearing in the 3rd finals of his career. SMITH 8th IN FINALS RETURN Exactly a year ago, Tristan Smith qualified for the very first match play finals of his GISBT career. This month, in his return to Cadillac Lanes, he qualified for career finals #2. The right-hander from Grand Island, Nebraska hauled away a $125 scholarship for his 8th place finish. Anthony Roberts earned this month s high game out of the money; the Ottumwa, Iowa resident fired a 279 game in his qualifying round to earn a $50 scholarship. 7 BREEDLOVE DOMINATES FIELD IN WINNING FIRST TOUR TITLE BREEDLOVE OUTSTANDING, BECOMES TOUR S NEWEST STAR Outstanding. Spectacular. Impressive. Inspiring. All those superlatives apply to Brittany Breedlove s performance down the stretch at this month s GISBT event in Waterloo. She staged a sensational charge down the stretch to capture her very first tour title at this month s event. Breedlove, from Montgomery, Illinois appeared in a pair of tour stops last season, finishing 10th and 11th, and this was just her 3rd appearance on tour. The smooth-stroking right-hander is a freshman this season at St Ambrose University CHAMP CATCHES FIRE IN MATCH PLAY The champ qualified on top, but an opening game loss turned the girl s finals into a wide-open affair, as just 101 pins separated all 6 finalists. That s when the right-hander from Montgomery, Illinois, turned her game up several notches, and sprinted clear of the other finalists. By averaging and eye-popping for her final 5 matches, she was able to turn this event into a route; her eventual margin of victory was 215 pins! Her game match play total was the 15th highest in girl s division history. BREEDLOVE BECOMES 74th DIFFERENT GIRLS CHAMPION IN TOUR HISTORY This month s champ averaged for her 14 games. She took home the championship plaque, a $300 scholarship and a permanent place on Champion s Row. With her impressive victory, Breedlove becomes the 74th different champion in girl s division history. Congratulations, Brittany! COUREY IN CAREER FORM, SNARES RUNNER-UP Cassidy Courey continued her great form by finishing runner-up at this month s tour stop, she finished 3rd at this year s season opener in Cedar Rapids last month. The talented 17 year-old from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota took home a $225 scholarship for her performance. With her great form to open this season, she has become one of the tour s promising newcomers, and her results from this season s opening pair of events signal she will be a major force on tour. KEITH CLAIMS 3rd Kaitlyn Keith was this month s 3rd place competitor. The 18 year-old from Bloomingdale, Illinois was enjoying her best finish on tour since a runner-up showing at last season s November event in Muscatine, where she was the eventual runner-up. She earned a $200 scholarship.

8 ADAMS STROKES 300, FINISHES 4th Stephanie Adams, 21, began her day with a 300 game, and it led to a 4th place finish. This month, the 3-time tour champion rolled into the 9th match play finals of her career, and she hauled in a $175 scholarship for her efforts. The perfect game was the 2nd on tour for the Manitoba, Canada native; the smooth-stroking righthander also rolled a 300 at the January 2014 stop in Cedar Rapids. PALMER PLACES 5th Bailey Palmer, from Ottumwa, Iowa, wound up as this month s 5th place finisher; she won a $140 scholarship. The 18 year-old rolled into the 12nd match play finals of her career at this month s event. MORSE TAKES 6th Whittney Morse earned a $125 scholarship by finishing 6th at this month s event. Morse was last season s Rookie of the Year recipient, and the 14 year-old from Muscatine, Iowa has now qualified for 3 match play finals. Hanna Duver took home the $50 scholarship for having the highest game out of the money. She rolled a big 290 during her qualifying round.
