3 LAST TIME OUT Forward Amber Bogard scored 11 of her game-high 19 points (8-of-11) in the opening quarter to give DSU a three-point advantage Saturday afternoon on the road, but the South Carolina Bulldogs (7-8, 3-2 MEAC) lived up to their billing on the defensive end by limiting the Lady Hornets to just 27 percent (13-of-48) the rest of the way to pull out a victory. With this loss, DSU dropped its fifth in a row on the road, in addition to falling to the Bulldogs for the sixth consecutive time. SCSU, meanwhile, bounced back from its loss at home to North Carolina A&T on Monday to pick up its third win in the last four games. POLLARD NETS FIFTH MEAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD Freshman sensation NaJai Pollard continued her stellar season by earning her fifth MEAC Rookie of the Week Award on Monday, this time averaging a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds per contest, along with totaling five steals and two blocks in games at Cornell and Morgan State last week. With this honor, the Richmond, Va. native, became the first Lady Hornet to garner the award for a fifth time since guard Raven Bankston did back in To begin the week, Pollard totaled eight points (2-of-6) and pulled down 13 boards for her team-leading fifth double-digit rebounding game of the season in DSU s loss at Cornell. Despite the Lady Hornets falling at Morgan State, Pollard scored what was then a careerhigh 16 points (8-of-11), in addition to falling one rebound shy of her fourth double-double. WHO S HOT? Forward NaJai Pollard is 21-for-37 (.568) from the field in her last four games, along with averaging 8.3 rebounds per contest Forward Amber Bogard has scored in doubles figures the last nine games (13.3 ppg) Guard Mikah Aldridge leads the MEAC in free throw percentage (.820) In her last six games, guard Bri Justice is shooting 40 percent (10-of-25) from long distance. BALANCED ATTACK Sitting sixth in the MEAC in scoring (57.7 ppg), DSU is the only team in the conference to have three players that sit in the top 20 in points per game. Leading the way is forward Amber Bogard (11.9 ppg), followed by guard Mikah Aldridge (11.4 ppg) and forward NaJai Pollard (10.1 ppg). AT THIS POINT LAST SEASON The Lady Hornets were 3-12 (1-2 MEAC), coming off a loss at home to SCSU. COMING UP NEXT The Columbia Blue & Red will return to Memorial Hall for a three-game homestand, beginning this Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.) against the North Carolina Central Eagles. Last season, DSU suffered a on the road to the Eagles. DOUBLE TROUBLE DOWN LOW An area of strength for the Lady Hornets this season will be the frontline duo of seniors Amber Bogard and Nikkei Blackburn. Bogard, who garnered Third Team Preseason All-MEAC honors, returns as DSU s top scorer (13.1 ppg), shot blocker (22) and field goal percentage leader (.503), while Blackburn returns as the Hornets leading rebounder (6.8 rpg). Bogard totaled two double-doubles last season, in addition to setting a new DSU single-game record for most blocks (7) against Norfolk State in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament. Blackburn also entered DSU s single-game record books, pulling down a career-high 19 boards at Hampton for the seventh best performance in school history. TREY TANDEM Beyond the arc, the guard tandem of N Kayah Kersey and Mikah Aldridge will pose a threat for opposing squads.
