Titan Stadium (10,000) First #TogetherWeAre UAB and Cal State Fullerton are meeting on the pitch for the first time in school history. The Blazers are all-time against schools currently in the Big West Conference. UAB picked up its third win of the season on Sunday and has already surpassed its win total from last season. UAB will be in search of its first three-game winning streak since 2014 when the Blazers take the field on Friday. UAB takes the field Friday in search of its first road win since Aug. 21, 2015 at Austin Peay. The Blazers defeated the Governors 4-3 in double overtime on that day. UAB sophomore keeper Kelsey Daugherty picked up her first career shutout Sunday in a 3-0 win over McNeese State. UAB ranks 24th in the NCAA with 2.4 assists per game. The Blazers are also tied for second in C-USA with 12 total assists. UAB has already scored 12 goals though fives games this season. The Blazers didn t reach five goals until Oct. 9, 2015 in the 11th game of the season against Marshall. UAB needs only four more goals to match last year s season output of 16. Blazer sophomore keeper Kelsey Daugherty tallied a season-high six saves Aug. 26 at Louisville. UAB enters play Friday with 12 assists this season, which is already one more than the Blazers collected all of last season. Blazer forward Caroline Kehrer is tied for fourth in C-USA with three goals and is tied for seventh with seven points. It s also just the fourth match UAB will have ever played against a school currently in the Big West Conference. UAB is all-time against Cal State Northridge and against Hawaii. Friday s match will be the first against Big West Conference competition for UAB since facing Hawaii in 2009 in Honolulu. Should UAB post a victory over the Titans on Friday, it would mark the first three-game winning streak for the Blazers since It would also be the first road win for UAB since a 4-3 double overtime victory at Austin Peay on Aug. 21, Last Time Out: UAB 3, McNeese State 0 The UAB women s soccer team scored two goals in the first 10 minutes on its way to a 3-0 shutout of McNeese State from BBVA Compass Field. The Blazers outscored their two opponents 7-1 last week and never trailed in either contest. Overall, UAB holds a 12-4 advantage in goals in its four home games this season. Rachel Green connected for her first goal of the season just over two minutes into play to put the Blazers ahead for good. Sarah Morris and Megan Hudgens each picked up an assist after Morris corner kick into the box allowed Hudgens to deliver a pass to Green for the game-winning goal. Hudgens added to the UAB lead seven minutes later when she struck in the 10th minute for her first goal of the season. Hudgens gained possession just inside the McNeese State box and dribbled to her right for a shot across her body that found the back corner of the net. Amy Brewer became the third Blazer of the day to register her first goal of the season when she accomplished the feat in the 44th minute. Brewer fired a shot from outside the box that sailed over the hands of a leaping Annie Bravenec. Blazer keeper Kelsey Daugherty finished with three saves and recorded her first career shutout. The Kennesaw, Ga., native has allowed no more than one goal in any home match this season. Notebook Scouting The Opponent Cal State Fullerton snapped its three-game losing streak on Sunday when the Titans posted a 1-0 home victory over San Jose State. The Titans opened the year with a 2-1 win over Saint Mary s before suffering consecutive losses to Auburn, Georgia and Utah State. The Titans are led by the three points of sophomore forward Nano Oronoz and junior midfielder Tala Haddad. Both Oronoz and Haddad have scored one goal and tallied one assists. The Titans, however, have only scored three goals this season and have netted just one since Aug. 20. Keeper Jennifer Stuart has 20 saves and a 1.20 goals against average through five games in net. Kehrer also stands tied for fourth in the league with three goals. Kehrer and fellow forward Sarah Morris are the only two Blazers this season with multi-goal games.
