The Hoyas are 3-6 overall this season. Last Saturday, GU was defeated by Lafayette, Towson begins play today with a 2-7 record and a 1-5 record in the Patriot League. The Tigers lost on Saturday to Fordham, The Hoyas will be looking for their first Patriot League win of the season. The Series There has been only one meeting between Georgetown and Towson during the history of Georgetown football. Towson won that game 17-7 in Head Coach Bob Benson Georgetown's Bob Benson is in his ninth year as head coach. Benson has compiled a record in his career, all at Georgetown, and has a.622 winning percentage. Benson was the 1997 recipient of the Spaulding/MAAC Coach of the Year and was also the Spaulding/MAAC Co- Coach of the Year in Benson joined the Hoyas after a stint as Benson s Career Record Year W-L Win % Totals defensive coordinator at Johns Hopkins from His teams have posted a mark since the beginning of the 1997 season. 2 The Captains Georgetown's captains in 2001 are defensive lineman Brian Blankenship, running back Aaron Brown and noseguard Scott Pogorelec. The Patriot League The 2001 football season marks the first year that Georgetown will participate in the Patriot League. The Hoyas were a member of the MAAC before playing as an independent last season. The Hoyas hosted three Patriot League teams in Holy Cross, Fordham and Bucknell each visited Kehoe Field last season. The other teams in the Patriot League, which sent two teams to the I-AA playoffs in 1999 are Colgate, Lafayette, Lehigh and Towson. The Coaching Staff The Hoyas have four new faces on the staff this season. Dan Rattay takes over as the team's defensive coordinator. Rattay, who served under Benson at Georgetown in 1993 and 1994, was the defensive coordinator at Johns Hopkins last season. Rick Ulrich is the team's new offensive coordinator. Ulrich was the assistant coach of the offense at Penn in Dwight Ausbrooks is new defensive line coach. He comes to GU after working at Howard the last two seasons. Former Hoya standout Gharun Hester is assisting with the defensive backs as a volunteer assistant. Tim Breslin, Rob Sgarlata, Paul Litwinetz, David Holm and Joe Moorhead all return from last season's coaching staff. Breslin will handle the special teams and linebackers, Sgarlata will work with the offensive line and Litwinetz will coach the tight ends and tackles. Holm will coach the running backs this season while Moorhead will work with the quarterbacks. Patriot League Awards GU freshman Craig Agnello was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his performance on Sept. 1. Agnello, a native of Glen Rock, N.J., scored the Hoyas' first-ever touchdown in Patriot League play on a seven-yard reception from Sean Peterson. Agnello caught three passes in the game for the Hoyas. Two weeks ago, Andy McCoy was selected as the League's Rookie of the Week. McCoy hails from Hookstown, Pa. and has emerged as a starter on the Hoya defensive line. He recorded two sacks and a fumble recovery in the GU victory over San Diego. McCoy also had five tackles in the game. Freshman Class The Hoyas freshman class has made an impact already. Craig Agnello, Byron Anderson, Kurt Bennett and Andy McCoy have each been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Ryan Goethals and Frank Terrazino have made significant contributions on the offensive line, while John Sims is second on the club in rushing. Defensively, Anderson and Daryl Collier have each been in the starting lineup, while Brandon Small, Tim Banks and Mark Clark are all on the two-deep. GU vs. Lafayette (11/10) Georgetown fell behind 14-3 in the first quarter and could not recover, losing to Lafayette at Kehoe Field. On the Leopards' first possession they marched 79 yards and scored a touchdown on a Joe McCourt four-yard run. GU came right back on the next possession and had an 11-play drive. Sean Peterson connected with Kurt Bennett on a 41-yard pass to move the Hoyas to the Lafayette 21. The drive ended on the Lafayette five yard line where Marc Samuel booted a 23-yard field goal to make the score 7-3. Lafayette then took the ball and with 3:12 remaining in the quarter quarterback Marko Glavic threw a fade pass to John Weyrauch for a 28-yard touchdown. The teams traded punts to start the second quarter and after a GU missed field goal and a Lafayette punt GU's Peterson hit John Sims out of the backfield for a 67-yard completion. Two plays later Peterson threw a five-yard pass to Luke McArdle to close the gap to Lafayette finished the half with two scoring drives. The first was an 80-yard touchdown drive and the second was a Martin Brecht 24-yard field goal as time expired to up the lead to In the second half the Leopards were able to continue running the ball and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. The first was a three-yard pass from Glavic to Tim Walsh and the second an eight yard run

3 by McCourt. The Hoyas closed out the scoring on the day with a Ryan Franken 11-yard reception in the fourth quarter. GU was unable to contain the run during the game and Lafayette gained 276 yards on the ground. McCourt led the Leopards with 184 yards and two touchdowns. GU's Peterson racked up 295 yards through the air and he completed 22 of 36 with two touchdowns. The Hoyas' Bennett led the receiving corp with five grabs for 80 yards. Lafayette's Glavic completed for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Glavic's main target was Weyrauch who finished the day with seven receptions for 122 yards. Defensively middle linebacker Matthew Craffey led the Hoyas with eight tackles and Matt Fronczke had seven unassisted tackles. Lafayette recorded seven sacks on the day, led by Casey McKeen with 2.5. GU vs. San Diego (11/3) Sean Peterson connected with Trenton Hillier on a three-yard scoring strike with three seconds remaining as the Hoyas rallied to beat San Diego, The Hoyas (3-5) drove 45 yards in the final two minutes to secure their third win of the season. GU's final drive was set up when Jamarr Staples blocked a USD punt. It was the Hoyas second blocked punt of the day. GU got on the board twice late in the first quarter. Hillier hauled in a 17-yard pass from Peterson with 2:10 left in the opening period. GU's Calvin Lyons blocked a Torero punt, which gave GU the ball at the USD 29-yard line. On the next play from scrimmage, Mike Schrama picked off a pass at the Torero 34-yard line. Five plays later, freshman John Sims ran for an 18-yard touchdown to give the Hoyas a 14-0 lead. San Diego scored its first touchdown midway through the second quarter. The Hoyas closed the first half scoring when Marc Samuel kicked a 32- yard field goal with 2:49 to play in the half. GU went to intermission with a 17-7 lead. The Torero's offense started to click in the second half. Kenny Villalabos scored on a 29-yard run in the third period to cut the GU lead to On the Torero's first drive of the fourth quarter, quarterback Eric Rasmussen scrambled for a twoyard touchdown to give USD a lead. Both teams were held off the board until Hillier scored in the final seconds. USD posted 342 yards of offense, compared to 260 by the Hoyas. Peterson completed 21 of his 35 passes and finished the day with 199 yards passing. Nick Schultz led GU with 12 tackles. Freshman Andy McCoy had two sacks, five tackles and a fumble recovery. Sophomore standout Matt Fronczke picked off his fourth pass of the season. GU vs. Marist (10/27) Brett Biggs connected on a 32-yard field goal in the first overtime to give Marist a victory over Georgetown. It was the first time Marist has ever defeated the Hoyas. GU fell behind early as Marist scored the first 21 points of the game. The Hoyas rallied and scored the next two touchdowns. John Sims scored on a 27- yard pass from Sean Peterson on the final play of the first quarter. GU s Luke McArdle cut the led to when he caught a five-yard pass from Dave Paulus with 6:46 to play in the half. Marist scored late in the half but missed the extra point as the teams went to half with Marist ahead, The Hoyas seemed to take control of the game in the second half. GU scored three-straight touchdowns to take the lead with 13:14 to play in the game. Peterson scored on a one-yard run and Dawon Dicks scored on a six-yard run in the third quarter. In the fourth, Peterson hit Aaron Brown on a short pass to put the Hoyas up, The Red Foxes would answer with a long touchdown run with 7:55 to play and the two-point conversion tied the game. GU had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Marc Samuel s 33-yard field goal with two seconds left was just wide. Samuel missed five field goals in the game. In the extra period, Peterson was picked off on third down. Biggs then kicked the winning field goal to give the Red Foxes their first win of the year. With the loss, the Hoyas fell to 2-5. The Red Foxes had 488 yards of offense, including 389 on the ground. GU was held to 15 yards rushing, but had 308 yards through the air. Peterson finished with 251

4 yards passing. Matt Fronczke had 11 tackles in the loss for GU. GU vs. Bucknell (10/20) Bucknell scored four first quarter touchdowns and defeated Georgetown, The Hoyas had their two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League. Bucknell improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Bison scored on the first play from scrimmage when GU quarterback was intercepted by Reed Tunison, who ran it back 29 yards for a score. The Bison then scored on their first three possessions to take a 27-0 lead after one quarter. They led 34-0 at intermission. Georgetown's offense had trouble getting on track most of the day. The Bison defense held GU to just 28 yards rushing on 30 carries. The Hoyas moved the ball better in the second half, but turned the ball over twice in the fourth quarter. The GU defense played much better in the second half and held Bucknell scoreless over the final 30 minutes. The Hoyas forced four second half turnovers, but could not turn them into points. GU freshman Byron Anderson and senior Ryan Cooper each had an interception for the Hoyas. Sophomore Luke McArdle had 133 all-purpose yards for GU. GU vs. Davidson (10/13) Senior Eric Speron intercepted the potential gametying two-point conversion pass in the final minute as the Hoyas held off Davidson The Wildcats scored a touchdown with 52 seconds remaining, but Speron picked off Paul Nichols' pass to give the Hoyas their second-straight win. Earlier in the contest, Speron blocked an extra-point attempt. Marc Samuel made all four of his field goal attempts in the game, including what proved to be the game-winner from 41 yards out with 3:04 to play. Samuel has now made five of his six attempts this season. The two teams traded field goals in the first quarter, but GU went ahead with 8:31 to play in the half. Punter Dave Paulus took the snap and ran 53 yards for a touchdown to give the Hoyas a 10-3 lead. Samuel kicked a field goal with just under three minutes to play to make the score 13-2 in favor of Georgetown at the half. Davidson answered with the first two scores of the second half. Chris Costello kicked a 41-yard field goal and John Leverett ran 9 yards for a touchdown as Davidson climbed to Speron blocked Dan Hanks' kick as GU held the lead. GU's Kurt Bennett answered less than a minute later when he hauled in a 65-yard touchdown pass from Sean Peterson. It was Bennett's first career touchdown. Davidson came back on the next series, getting to on Nichols' 1-yard keeper with 1:53 left in the third quarter. Samuel kicked two fourthquarter field goals that put Georgetown up with 3:04 left in regulation. GU vs. Duquesne (10/6) Freshman Byron Anderson returned a blocked extrapoint attempt 82 yards to propel Georgetown to a victory over Duquesne. The Hoyas, who led most of the game, gave up the lead with 3:46 left to play when Josh Rue intercepted Sean Peterson's pass at the GU 4-yard line and scored. Duquesne's extrapoint attempt was blocked by Eric Speron and Anderson picked it up and raced down the sideline to give the Hoyas their first win of the season. Duquesne got on the board first on its second possession of the game when Niel Loebig connected with Yardon Brantley on an 86-yard touchdown pass. The Hoyas answered later in the quarter when Sean Peterson hit Aaron Brown on an 18-yard scoring play. The extra point by Marc Samuel tied the game at 7-7. The Hoyas took the lead in the second quarter when Samuel kicked a pair of field goals, one from 37 yards away and the next from 35 yards out. That would be all of the scoring until the fourth quarter. The Hoyas defense forced seven turnovers and had five sacks in the contest. Duquesne had opportunities to take the lead, but GU held the powerful Dukes' offense off the board. Donte Small, who ran for 173 yards in the game, was stopped on four consecutive rushing plays from inside the five-yard line early in the second half as the Hoyas took over on downs. GU's pass defense was outstanding, giving up only six completions on the day. Sophomore Matt

5 Fronczke had two interceptions and a sack, while Anderson, Mike Schrama and Daryl Collier also came up with interceptions. Ken Osier had two sacks, forced and recovered a fumble in the game. GU vs. Fordham (9/29) Fordham raced out to an early lead and defeated GU, The Rams scored on each of their first four possessions. The loss dropped the Hoyas' record to 0-3 on the season. Fordham improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Patriot League play. The Rams racked up 571 yards of total offense, including 421 yards in the first half. Fordham's Mark Carney threw five touchdown passes, including three to Javarus Dudley. GU's only touchdown of the half came on its first possession. Bo Cote hauled in a 14-yard reception from Sean Peterson. The scoring drive was set up by Dawon Dicks' 44-yard run. The Hoyas opened the scoring in the second half. Trenton Hillier caught a 19 yard pass over the middle and stretched out over the goal line for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed. GU's scoring pass started after Matt Fronczke picked off a Fordham pass in GU territory. The Rams added a field goal and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring. Peterson finished the day 23 for 32 and threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Dicks led the team with a career-high 77 yards on the ground, while Cote had seven receptions and 92 yards. GU vs. Holy Cross (9/8) Holy Cross scored three second quarter touchdowns and defeated Georgetown, The loss dropped the Hoyas to 0-2 overall and in Patriot League play. GU and Holy Cross were scoreless until the Crusaders' Calvin Souder scored on a two-yard run at 12:20 of the second quarter, the first of his two touchdown runs on the day. Holy Cross quarterback Brian Hall threw for a score and ran for another in the quarter to give Holy Cross a 20-0 lead. The Hoyas got on the board with 4:55 to play in the third quarter. Sophomore Dawon Dicks capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run around the left end. However, Holy Cross answered just 2:30 later as Hall hit Steve Green with a 33-yard scoring strike. Holy Cross put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, converting on a six-yard drive after a GU turnover deep in Hoya territory. GU quarterback Sean Peterson was 17 for 31 and threw for 159 yards, but was intercepted twice. Sophomore Luke McArdle had four receptions for 85 yards and also had a 30-yard punt return. Senior Scott Pogorelec had his first career interception in the first half for GU. GU vs. Lehigh (9/1) Lehigh spoiled Georgetown's Patriot League debut by beating the Hoyas, 41-14, in front of 2,512 fans at Kehoe Field. The Mountain Hawks, ranked 10 th in the nation, raced out to a 24-0 lead in the first half and never trailed in the contest. The game was the season-opener for both teams. The Hoyas gave up a touchdown on Lehigh's first possession, but put together an impressive drive once they got the ball. Sean Peterson drove the Hoyas down the field before a turnover gave Lehigh the ball back. Peterson had a solid game for GU, throwing for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Peterson hit Craig Agnello for the Hoyas' first touchdown of the year with just two seconds left before halftime to cut the lead to Peterson also hit Luke McArdle on a 38-yard pass in the fourth quarter for GU's final touchdown. The Hoyas were able to move the ball against Lehigh. GU ended the day with 319 yards of total offense, including 288 in the air. Defensively, Matt Fronczke led the Hoyas with 10 tackles, including six solo stops and a fumble recovery. About GU The Hoyas have nine senior starters back from last year's team including six on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, Sean Peterson has thrown 12 touchdown passes and is averaging yards passing per game. Dawon Dicks leads the team in rushing. He had a career-best 77 yards at Fordham. Luke McArdle has 37 receptions for 461 yards. He is averaging all-purpose yards per contest.

6 Defensively, Matt Fronczke and Matt Craffey are tied for the team lead in tackles, both with 67. Fronczke leads the club with four interceptions, while freshman Byron Anderson has picked off three passes. About Towson The Tigers enter today's game on a five-game losing streak. Towson has a 2-7 overall record and a 1-5 record in the Patriot League. Both of Towson's wins came in overtime. The first victory was over Lafayette in the second week of the season, On September 29 the Tigers garnered their second victory with a win over Morgan State. Running back Noah Read averages 97.4 yards per game and has gained 877 yards on the season. The team averages yards of offense per game and better than 225 through the air. Leading the Tigers at quarterback is senior Val Troiani. He has thrown for 1,153 yards and has a pass efficiency rating. Troiani's favorite target has been Jason Galloway who has 45 catches for 597 yards. All-America Candidate GU has one of the top kickers in the nation in Marc Samuel. The law/business graduate student is 8-for- 16 this season in field goals, and was 4-for-4 against Davidson. Last year, Samuel was 6-for-8 in field goals and boomed a 51-yard field goal at Duquesne. He also was on extra-point attempts. Samuel kicked for two seasons at Kentucky and was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top kicker. He was among the SEC's leading scorers in his final year at UK. Last season, Samuel was a District II Academic All-America. Home Cooking Today is the second home game in a row for the Hoyas. Last week the Hoyas' two-game home winning streak was broken with the loss to Lafayette. Prior to last week's game the Hoyas had won two straight on Kehoe Field. They defeated Davidson, 26-24, on October 13 and handled Duquesne the week before, GU was 4-3 at home in 2000 and is 2-2 at home this season. Benson's teams have recorded a mark at Kehoe Field in his eight plus seasons. The Hoyas are 16-7 at home over the last three plus seasons. Hoyas in the National Rankings Georgetown's defensive unit is tied for 17 th in the nation in interceptions (14) and is 29 th in the country in fumble recoveries (12). The Hoyas are 20 th in the nation in turnover margin at.67. Individually, Matt Fronczke has four interceptions and is tied for 37 th with.44 per game. Luke McArdle ranks 40 th nationally with yards of all-purpose yardage per game. Last year, Trenton Hillier and Dave Paulus each played for the GU men's basketball team. Hillier appeared in 24 games as GU advanced to the NCAA "Sweet 16." Adam Rini throws the hammer, discus and shot put for the Hoyas' track and field program, while sophomore Ken Osier was a reserve on GU's ECAC Lacrosse League Championship team. GU's Future Home The Hoyas have a new home on the horizon. Construction on the new GU multi-sport facility is scheduled to begin in the fall of The facility will be set in the middle of GU's campus and will be the most significant undertaking in the history of Georgetown Athletics.

Statistics, rosters, game notes and other information can be found on the site. This Year's Senior Class #87 Brian Blakenship (Tri-Captain) A defensive lineman from Bayonne, New Jersey. As one of this year s tri-captains, Brian is 12 th on the squad with 19 tackles this season. He has nine sacks in his four-year career. #37 Aaron Brown (Tri-Captain) A fullback from Willingboro, New Jersey. Aaron has played in all 43 games during his Hoya career. This season, Aaron has carried the ball 27 times and gained 60 yards. He has gained 671 career rushing yards. #51 Scott Pogorelec (Tri-Captain) A four-year starter at nose guard from Clifton, New Jersey. This season, Scott has recorded 33 tackles increasing his career total to 131. This season Scott made his first interception as a Hoya. #4 Marc Samuel A graduate student, kicker from Anchorage, Kentucky. Marc leads the Hoyas this season with 41 points, hitting 8 out of 16 field goals. He has connected on 14 of 24 field goals during his two years as the GU kicker. #64 Brett Beilfuss An offensive guard from Vienna, Virginia. Brett has played in five games during the 2001 season. He did record a reception, gaining seven yards after the catch. #75 Stephen Cook An offensive lineman from Arlington, Virginia. Steve is a two-year starter on the offensive line. This season he switched to left guard after playing left tackle in #1 Ryan Cooper A free safety from Newport Beach, California. Ryan is fourth on the team this year in tackles with 38. He has four interceptions in his career and has played in 41 games as a Hoya. #58 Matthew Craffey An inside linebacker from Wyckoff, New Jersey. Matt leads the team with a total of 67 tackles this season. He has 183 tackles in his 37 game career donning the Blue and Gray. #40 Ryan Fugit A tight end from Tampa, Florida. Ryan has been a vital contributor to GU s special teams with his outstanding long snapping ability on both punts and field goals. #90 Kevin Komelasky A defensive tackle from Holland, Pennsylvania. Kevin has 36 tackles in his career and one career sack. #19 Keith Marshall A defensive back from Capitol Heights, Maryland. This season, Keith has played in all nine games and recorded 14 tackles and recovered one fumble. He has 24 tackles in his career. #44 Ryan Merse A linebacker from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Ryan is ninth on the squad with 25 tackles this season, and has four tackles for losses. He has both a sack and an interception in his career. #86 Chris Murphy A nose guard from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Murphy has notched two solo tackles this season. #18 Sean Peterson A quarterback from Gaithersburg, Maryland. Sean leads the Hoyas this season in passing yards with 1,764. He has thrown for 2,290 yards in his career placing him ninth all-time. His 15 touchdown passes ranks him tenth on the all-time career list. #9 Eric Speron A defensive end from Naperville, Illinois. Eric has recorded 33 tackles on the year, including five tackles for a loss. His 38 game career includes 111 tackles, 10 sacks and five fumble recoveries. #6 Keith Tornichia A defensive back from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Keith has played in all nine game this season and has recorded 11 tackles on the year. He has 28 tackles as a Hoya and one interception. #46 Justin Wiggs A linebacker from Frederick, Maryland. This year Justin has been a contributor on special teams.
