4 TALLEY S TENURE: Currently in his 22nd season on the Main Line, head coach Andy Talley can feel responsible for every facet of the Villanova football program, having started it from scratch in In his career at Villanova, Talley has recorded a mark, making him the all-time winningest coach in Villanova history. Talley s 26-year overall coaching record currently stands at During his career as the Wildcat mentor, Talley has guided Villanova to six NCAA playoff appearances (1989, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997, 2002), four conference titles and two Lambert Meadowlands Trophies. In 1997, Talley garnered the Eddie Robinson Award and the AFCA/GTE National Coach of the Year Award. SERIES MOMENTUM: Despite losing the last game in the series, William & Mary has had the upper hand versus the Wildcats in recent years. The Tribe has won four of the last six games versus Villanova. Last year at Villanova Stadium, the Wildcats upset No. 9 William & Mary by a score of William & Mary leads the all-time series FOREIGN TERRITORY: Villanova will be playing at William & Mary s Zable Stadium for the 12th time this Saturday. The venue has not been kind to the Wildcats over the years. In the previous 11 meetings, Villanova is in games played in Williamsburg, Va. The team s lone win at William & Mary came in 1997 when the Cats were ranked No. 1 in the country and tallied a win. IT ALL STARTED HERE: Entering play this Saturday versus Villanova, the William & Mary Tribe are riding an eight game Atlantic 10 Conference losing streak. The losing stretch started at Villanova Stadium last Oct. 29, William & Mary entered last year s game with a 5-2 overall record and a 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference mark. Since that game, William & Mary has lost eight consecutive conference contests. ROAD TESTED: Both of Villanova s wins this season have come on the road. The Wildcats are currently 2-2 in road games this year with victories at Penn (27-20) and at Hofstra (20-16) and losses at Central Florida (35-16) and at Maine (20-7). BLOCK PARTY: Villanova blocked its third punt of the season in last Saturday s loss to Towson. Sophomore running back Tony Canci blocked a Towson punt late in the third quarter that was recovered by Wildcat running back Matt Dicken on the Towson nine-yard line. Two plays later, Dicken ran in from nine yards out. Sophomore linebacker Darrel Young has Villanova s other two blocked punts this season. He registered one versus Central Florida and one at Hofstra. Young has blocked three punts in his Wildcat career. GAINING GROUND: Junior running back Matt Dicken had the best game of his Villanova career last Saturday versus Towson. In the loss, Dicken carried a career-high 15 times for a career-best 78 yards and a career-high tying two touchdowns. This was the third time in his career that Dicken has had a two touchdown game. His 78 yards rushing was almost half of Villanova s entire total offense for the game. As a team, Villanova registered 166 yards of total offense. For the year, Dicken has six rushing touchdowns for 36 points which leads the team in scoring. LIMITED OPPORTUNITIES: Villanova has had just 336 yards of total offense combined the last two games (170 vs. Maine/166 vs. Towson). A big reason for this may be attributed to the limited number of offensive opportunities. In the Maine game, Villanova ran just 59 plays, while last week the Cats had just 54 offensive plays. Against Towson, the Tigers dominated the time of possession (38:04 to 21:56). HOME STATE RETURN: Two members of the Villanova traveling party will return to their home state of Virginia for the game at William & Mary. Starting safety Allyn Bacchus is from Hampton, Virginia (Kecoughtan H.S.), while reserve linebacker Blake Shubert hails from Fairfax Station, Virginia (Robinson H.S.). All total, Villanova has four players on its roster from Virginia. Freshman Buddy Buckner is a native of Lorton, Virginia (Bishop Ireton H.S.), while freshman Travis Benson is from Herndon, Virginia (Langley H.S.). DOUBLE DIGIT TACKLERS: In last Saturday s loss to Towson, Villanova had two players finish with double digit tackle statistics. Junior safety Zach Mariacher led the way with 11 tackles to go with two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Sophomore linebacker Darrel Young was credited with 10 tackles, one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery and a pass breakup. Mariacher is currently second on the team in tackles with 44. THE LIST CONTINUES TO GROW: Villanova lost another player for the season in last Saturday s game versus Towson when sophomore Greg Miller suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. With Miller s injury, there are now five players who appeared on the depth chart entering the 2006 season, including four starters, who have been lost for the season due to injury. Starting defensive tackle Brian Hentosz had a season-ending knee injury the first week of fall camp and will miss the entire 2006 season. Back-up fullback Tyree Hughey suffered a knee injury in practice on Sept. 20 and is lost for the year, while starting safety Kalise Cook injured his knee in the Hofstra game and will miss the remainder of the season. At Maine on Oct. 14, starting wide receiver Anton Ridley broke his right leg and is out for the rest of the season. REACHING 4,000: In the game at Penn on Sept. 23, Villanova senior quarterback Marvin Burroughs became the fifth Villanova signal caller to throw for 4,000 career yards. Entering play this Saturday at William & Mary, Burroughs has 4,589 career passing yards to his credit. The other four Villanova quarterbacks to accomplish the feat include Chris Boden (10,146/ ), Kirk Schulz (9,676/ ), Brett Gordon (9,639/ ) and Tom Colombo (5,825/ ). THE STEAK CONTINUES: Senior safety Allyn Bacchus will be making his 41st straight start this Saturday at William & Mary. Bacchus started the first game of his career as a true freshman and has not missed a start since. He currently leads Villanova in tackles with 57 (31 solo/26 assisted). HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS: In the last four games combined, the Villanova defense has allowed just 25 second half points for an average of 6.2 points per game. CONSISTENCY UP FRONT: Villanova has started the same five along the offensive line in all seven games this season. The line-up consists of senior Christian Gaddis at center, senior Michael Costanzo and freshman Brian Brannigan at guards and senior Lav Bauta and sophomore Izzy Bauta at the tackle spots. LEADING THE WAY: Three senior members of the 2006 Wildcats will serve as team captains this season. Quarterback Marvin Burroughs, center Christian Gaddis and safety Allyn Bacchus earned their captain status by a vote of Wildcat players.

5 PLAYING SMART: Villanova continues to be the least penalized team in the league. After seven games, the Wildcats have been penalized 27 times for 244 yards for an average of 3.8 penalties and 34.8 yards per contest. In the same span, Villanova s opponents have committed 46 penalties for 361 yards, an average of 51.5 yards per contest. BROTHERLY LOVE: It is a family affair along the Villanova offensive line this season. The brother trio of Lav Bauta, Izzy Bauta and Imer Bauta are all offensive lineman for the Wildcats. Fifth-year Lav and sophomore Izzy are the starting tackles, while Imer is a freshman reserve. Lav played four years at Duke before transferring to Villanova this season. Izzy spent one year at Duke before transferring to Villanova before th 2005 season. As a redshirt freshman last season, Izzy saw significant playing time at tackle. PRE-SEASON HONORS: Two Wildcats were named pre-season first team All-Atlantic 10 by a vote of league head coaches. Senior safety Allyn Bacchus and junior tight end Matt Sherry were both named to the All- Conference pre-season first team. Last season, Bacchus finished second on the team in tackles with 118 to go with six tackles for loss, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a sack. Sherry made 25 receptions for 275 yards and three touchdowns in an injury-plagued campaign in STAFF CHANGES: Wildcat head coach Andy Talley will have two new assistant coaches in On defense, Clint Wiley returns to Villanova as the team s linebacker coach. It was the first time UCF won a season opener in eight years. VILLANOVA, Pa.--On an evening when both teams totaled more than 200 yards on the ground, a touchdown run of 15 yards by Matt McGowan with 3:00 left in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Villanova (0-2) was defeated by Lehigh (1-1) in its home opener on Saturday evening from Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats had retaken the lead at on a touchdown run by senior quarterback Marvin Burroughs with 11:38 showing in the final period, but the Mountain Hawks strung together a five-play drive covering 80 yards in just 1:40 to account for the decisive score. Villanova racked up 208 yards on the ground and had four rushing touchdowns for the first time since 2004, but was unable to hold onto the 14-point lead that it built early in the second period.
