This year s berth marks the Seminoles 14th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. UCLA earned the Pac-12 s automatic bid. The Bruins are making their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance and ninth in the College Cup. UCLA owns an all-time postseason record of * The Seminoles return to the College Cup for the third year in a row and seventh time in school history. The seven College Cup appearances are tied for the sixth most in NCAA Tournament history (Connecticut). Since 2003, FSU s seven College Cup appearances are the most of any school in the ACC and are the second most nationally behind only UCLA (8). * FSU clinched a berth in the national championship game for the second time in school history following its 3-2 victory over Virginia Tech in Friday s semifinal. The Seminoles first appearance in the national finals came in 2007 when FSU fell to Southern California 2-0 in College Station, Texas. Sunday s winner will mark the first women s soccer national championship for either team. * Florida State and UCLA are meeting for only the second time in series history as both meetings have come in the College Cup. The Bruins won that only other meeting defeating the Seminoles, 4-0, in the national semifinal back in 2005 in College Station, Texas. That was Florida State s first national semifinal under head coach Mark Krikorian which also happened to be his first season with the Seminoles. * Facing a Pac-12 opponent in the College Cup is nothing new to the Seminoles. FSU has faced three schools from the Pac-12 in the College Cup including UCLA once back in The Seminoles also played Southern California in the 2007 National Championship game and then Stanford in the 2011 national semifinal in Kennesaw, Ga. Against Pac-12 teams all-time, Florida State is including in the NCAA Tournament. Along with the Bruins (0-1), Trojans (0-1) and the Cardinal (0-2), FSU has also faced Cal three times in the NCAA Tournament winning all three matches and Colorado back in the third round of this year s tournament defeating the Buffaloes 4-0. * With three goals in Friday s national semifinal against Virginia Tech, the Seminoles set the school record for goals scored during the NCAA Tournament in a single season. FSU has outscored the competition 19-3 through five matches in The previous school record for goals during NCAA Tournament play was 17 set during Florida State s run to the national title game in * Sunday s winner between UCLA & Florida State will mark the 10th different team to capture a women s soccer national title in NCAA history. The Seminoles played in the finals in 2007 falling to Southern California 2-0. Jamia Fields tallied her first career multi-goal game in the national semifinal scoring Florida State's second and third goals against Virginia Tech including the game-winner in the 83rd minute. The Seminoles have registered a multigoal scorer in all five NCAA Tournament games this year - Carson Pickett (South Alabama), Dagny Brynjarsdottir (Ole Miss, Colorado) and Marta Bakowska-Mathews (Boston College). With Jamia Fields' goal in the 83rd minute, Florida State has now scored a goal after the 80th minute 17 times this year including 14 goals that have either tied the match or resulted in the game-winner. Megan Campbell s assist on Jamia Fields first goal of the second half in Friday s semifinal against Virginia Tech was her 13th of the season and sixth in this year s NCAA Tournament to lead all players. Campbell has registered at least one assist in all five of FSU s NCAA Tournament games. The six assists by Campbell are the second most posted in a single-season at FSU during the NCAA Tournament two off the school record held by Mami Yamaguchi (2007). The Seminoles allowed more than one goal in a game for just the second time this year as the Hokies found the back of the net twice in Friday s national semifinal. The only other game FSU has allowed more than one goal this year was against Boston College on October 3 in a 4-3 Seminole victory in Tallahassee. FSU was quick to respond to Virginia Tech s equalizer in the 79th minute on Friday as Jamia Fields scored the goahead goal in the 83rd minute to give the Seminoles a 3-2 advantage. The time of three minutes and 56 seconds between the two goals marked the quickest time by the Seminoles in answering an opponent s goal during the NCAA Tournament in school history. The previous mark was 7:42 set this year during the second round against Ole Miss. Florida State's victory over Virginia Tech was its third victory of the season against the Hokies marking the first time in school history that FSU has defeated a team three times in a single season. The Seminoles faced Virginia three times in 2011falling to the Cavaliers 4-3 in overtime during the regular season in Charlottesville, then defeating UVa 2-1 in the ACC Tournament semifinals in Cary and finally 3-0 in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Tallahassee. Making its third trip to the College Cup hosted by WakeMed Park in Cary, Florida State secured its first-ever victory in a national semifinal played in Cary with a 3-2 win over Virginia Tech. On two previous occasions, the Seminoles played Connecticut in 2003 (L, 0-2) and Notre Dame in 2006 (L, 1-2). FSU improved to all-time in 13 trips to Cary. The Seminoles are when playing in Cary in Of the 19 players that have seen action in the NCAA Tournament this year, 12 different Seminoles have contributed by scoring at least one point, while 10 different Seminoles have scored at least one goal. When looking at all 27 games this year, Florida State has had 16 different players tally at least one point. In 2013, The Seminoles improved to in one-goal games when scoring three or more goals this year and under head coach Mark Krikorian when the opponent scores first against ranked opponents this year, including against teams ranked in the top 10. 6 Junior midfielder Dagny Brynjarsdottir leads all Seminoles with 10 points on four goals and two assists through the first five NCAA Tournament games. Brynjarsdottir has matched her goal output in the postseason this year than in her first two seasons with the Seminoles. She also ranks third all-time in the Seminole record books for career points (21) in the NCAA Tournament and tied for third in goals (8) and gamewinning goals (3) and tied for sixth in assists (5). Brynjarsdottir is also just the third Seminole to register more than one multi-goal game in the postseason as she joins Sanna Talonen (3) and Tiffany McCarty (2). The Icelandic native scored two goals in the second and third rounds against Ole Miss and Colorado, respectively. In 57 all-time NCAA Tournament games, Florida State has recorded 25 shutouts and has been shut out 11 times. FSU recorded three shutouts in a single NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in school history (South Alabama, Colorado and Boston College) in It marks the third straight year FSU has performed such a feat. The Seminoles set the school record with three shutouts in 2007 blanking Kennesaw State 3-0, LSU 4-0 and Texas 4-0 en route to playing for the national championship. FSU then returned in 2008 and opened the tournament with three straight shutouts only to match that record again three years later in The Seminoles have posted 15 shutouts this year including five in the postseason if you include both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. Florida State is one of 12 schools all-time at the Division I level to post a streak of 14 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Nine of those schools are on active streaks including five from the ACC. Here is a look at the schools who have qualified for 14 or more consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances: North Carolina* Connecticut Notre Dame* Virginia* Penn State* Santa Clara Texas A&M* Wake Forest* UCLA* Stanford* Clemson Florida State* *denotes active streak THE SEMINOLES IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTING THE FIELD Megan Campbell posted a career-high four points on a goal and two assists in the win over the Jaguars in the first round. She has six assists in the NCAA Tournament registering at least one assist in all five matches. Campbell leads the team with 13 assists as she became just the seventh Seminole to record 10 or more assists in a single-season. Her 13 assists are the second most recorded in a single-season in school history. Jamia Fields assisted on the first two goals in FSU s second round victory over Ole Miss. She added her third of the postseason in the third round against Colorado and now has eight assists on the year - tying her single-season career-high set during her sophomore campaign. Fields leads all active players with four multi-assists games including two in Marta Bakowska-Mathews posted a career-high five points on two goals and one assist in FSU s 4-0 victory over Boston College in the quarterfinals. The junior midfielder assisted on the game s first goal before scoring the third and fourth goals of the match to seal the victory and send FSU to the College Cup for the third year in a row. Bakowska-Mathews is having a career year with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Nickolette Driesse recorded her first multi-assist game of her career in the quarterfinals against Boston College picking up two in the win. It marked her first assist since September 29 at Clemson. The freshman midfielder has seven assists on the year - tied for the fifth most assists in a single-season by a freshman and the most by a freshman since Amanda DaCosta finished the 2007 season with nine. Both Michaela Hahn and Kassey Kallman entered the 2013 NCAA Tournament with just one goal between the two as that lone goal came off the foot of Hahn against Florida in Gainesville back on August 30. Both Seminoles have scored twice in the postseason and both have five points through the first four matches. Hahn has scored in back-to-back games finding the back of the net against Colorado and Boston College. Kallman has scored against South Alabama and Boston College as her goal against the Eagles was the game-winner. Kallman s five points is this year s tournament is one shy of matching her career point total during her first three years at Florida State. Megan Campbell s six assists through the first five rounds of the 2013 NCAA Tournament rank as the second most in a single-season in school history. Mami Yamaguchi holds the single-season record for assists in the postseason when she tallied eight during FSU s run to the national championship game in The Seminoles have played 18 games against 13 schools participating in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Five of those schools received a national seed. The Seminoles have registered a record against these schools posting seven wins against schools receiving a national seed. The lone loss for FSU came at the hands of Virginia in overtime in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers were the No. 1 overall seed in this year s tournament. With a 5-0 victory over South Alabama, Florida State remained unbeaten all-time in the first round of the NCAA Tournament moving its record to The 2004 season marks the only year the Seminoles failed to advance out of the first round as FSU tied Boston College 0-0 but were eliminated in a shootout. Following a 3-1 win over Ole Miss, Florida State improved to all-time in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles have won 11 straight in the second round with their last and only loss coming at the hands of Clemson in FSU is a combined all-time in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Dagny Brynjarsdottir has a team-high 10 points on four goals and two assists through the first five NCAA Tournament games. She is one of just two players that have reached double-digit points in the postseason joining Virginia s Makenzy Doniak (11). The Icelandic native is also one of just three players to score at least four goals. Megan Campbell s six assists leads all players in the postseason with UCLA s Sam Mewis, closely behind with five. Jamia Fields and Marta Bakowska-Mathews each have three assists tied for the fourth most. Carson Pickett registered her first career multi-goal game in FSU s first round victory over South Alabama. The sophomore midfielder scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute and then added her second just out of the break to give the Seminoles a 4-0 lead. Dagny Brynjarsdottir scored two goals each in the second and third rounds for FSU - her third and fourth multi-goal games of the season, while Marta Bakowska-Mathews registered her second multi-goal game of the season and first of the NCAA Tournament scoring twice against Boston College in the quarterfinals. The four goals by Dagny Brynjarsdottir in the NCAA Tournament are tied for the fourth most in a single-season in the FSU record books. Sanna Talonen set the school record with eight goals during the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Brynjarsdottir s 10 points through the first four NCAA Tournament games is tied for the fourth most in a single-season in school history. She is the fifth Seminole to reach double-digit points in the postseason in a single year: Sanna Talonen , 17 pts (8G, 1A); Tiffany McCarty , 15 pts (7G, 1A); Mami Yamaguchi , 14 pts (3G, 8A); India Trotter , 10 pts (5G); Dagny Brynjarsdottir , 10 pts (4G, 2A). WakeMed Park in Cary, N.C., has been a kind place to the Noles over its existence as FSU is in 13 all-time trips. Seven of FSU s 10 ACC Tournament semifinal appearances have come in Cary, while the Seminoles two league titles have come inside WakeMed Park (2011 & 2013). This year marks the third time FSU has played in a College Cup hosted by Cary twice before in 2003 & When FSU and UCLA square-off in Sunday s championship final, there will definitely be some familiarity between both head coaches. Amanda Cromwell, who is in her first season with the Bruins, was previously at UCF where she led the Knights for 14 seasons ( ). During her time in Orlando, FSU and UCF played 12 times with seven of those matches coming against the Seminoles with Mark Krikorian at the helm. FSU was in those 12 meetings including under Krikorian. Bruins assistant coach Josh Walters was a part of the FSU staff for two seasons where he served as the Director of Soccer Operations in 2010 and A Florida State win on Sunday would give head coach Mark Krikorian his first national title at the Division I level and third overall. Krikorian led Franklin Pierce to back-toback Division II titles in 1994 and He would become only the second coach to win a national title at two different divisions. Brian McManus led UC San Diego to seven national championships including two as a Division II member (2000 & 2001) and five as a Division III member (1989, & 1999). Krikorian would become the first coach to perform the feat at two different schools.
