Saw his first collegiate action at home versus North Dakota (9-11) and recorded a three-yard tackle for loss for his only tackle of the year. Also played in home games versus Buffalo (10-16), Central Michigan (10-23) and Toledo (11-9) and on the road at Akron (10-2) and Ball State (11-20). 2009: Redshirted. High School: Earned first team all-state honors from the Associated Press, Eau Claire Leader and the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association. Shrine Bowl participant served as team captain and was elected team MVP as a senior. Two-time WFCA All-Northwest first team and three-time first team all-conference selection. Saw action on both sides of the line and at fullback. Recorded 66 tackles, 16 sacks, caused eight fumbles, recovered seven and blocked two kicks as a senior. Ran the ball 20 times for 150 yards and scored twice. Twelve-time letterwinner in football, wrestling and track. As a wrestler, was a three-time state placewinner at 285 pounds with 106 career pins and a record. Also on the mat, was a two-time Greco- All American and Greco National placewinner, and holds the fastest pin in Wisconsin at four seconds. Averaged 10.8 yards per catch and caught at least one pass in 10 of the Huskies 14 games. Returned six punts for 65 yards to average 10.8 yards per punt return. Recorded career-highs in receptions (six) and receiving yards (65) in the home opener against North Dakota (9-11). Had three grabs for 26 yards and a punt return for 13 yards against Buffalo (10-16). Buffalo Grove 2010: Appeared in 12 of the Huskies 14 games as a back-up at defensive end. Ranked fourth among NIU defensive ends with 12 tackles and tied for eighth on the team in tackles for loss with 4.5. Did not play versus Akron (10-2) or Central Michigan (10-23). Had at least one tackle in eight of 12 contests. Tied his career-high with three tackles, including one for a two-yard loss, in the season opener at Iowa State (9-2). Tallied two tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, versus Buffalo (10-16). Made two tackles, including a four-yard tackle for loss, at Eastern Michigan (11-26). Ranked fifth on the team in rushing yards with 228 yards on 39 carries. His 39 carries were third on the team behind only Chad Spann and Chandler Harnish. Averaged 5.8 yards per carry with a long run of 30 yards. Rushed for a career-high 82 yards on a season-high 12 carries, including a career-long 30-yard run, versus Central Michigan (10-23). Earn NIU offensive back of the week honors for the CMU game. Had one carry for 30 yards, tying his career-long, at Ball State (11-20). Gained 36 yards on just three attempts at Minnesota (9-25) thanks to a 29-yard tote. Totaled 42 yards on eight carries at Akron (10-2). Picked up 24 yards on 10 attempts at Eastern Michigan (11-26). Rushed for nine yards on three carries at Western Michigan (10-30). Also saw action at Illinois and versus Toledo. 2009: Sat out the season after transferring from Iowa State. Made the transition back to running back after playing linebacker at Iowa State for two years (Iowa State): Saw action in 11 games, totaling 19 tackles, 14 solo, while playing linebacker for the Cyclones. Made a season-high six tackles, with five solo stops against Nebraska (10/18). Recorded three tackles each in games against UNLV (9/21) and Colorado (11/8). Had two solo tackles against the Buffalos and one solo stop versus the Rebels. Totaled two tackles, both solo, against Missouri (11/15). Honored as the Northern Illinois Offensive Work Team Player of the Year at the annual football awards banquet. Named the NIU work team player of the week a team-high three times for the Illinois (9-18), Central Michigan (10-23) and Ball State (11-20) contests. High School: A first team All-City selection his junior and senior years. Special Mention Chicago Tribune All-State quarterback as a senior. First team all-area and all-conference selection in 2008 and 2009 and also picked up all- Illini Prairie first team honors as a sophomore. Team MVP and captain his final two years. Named an Old Spice RedZone Player of the Year as a junior. Averaged 12.2 yards per carry with 1,800 yards on 147 carries as a senior. Scored 23 rushing touchdowns in 2009 while setting the Morgan Park record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 41 for his career. Also set the career record for rushing yards by a QB with 1,900 yards on 213 carries and 18 scores as a junior. Totaled 3,700 rushing yards on 360 carries in 22 games his final two seasons. In the air, completed 115-of-172 passes for 1,200 yards with four interceptions and 13 touchdown passes his senior season. In 2008, 214-of-300 passes for 1,400 yards and a 71.3 completion percentage with 16 scores. Caught 15 passes for 415 yards and four TDs as a senior to average 27 yards per catch. As a sophomore receiver, made 45 grabs for 789 yards and 12 scores. Also returned four kickoffs for 78 yards. Mustangs won conference championships each of his three seasons and were the city champions and state quarterfinalists his sophomore year. Served as team captain as a senior. Helped lead St. Charles North to an 8-4 record his senior season after the North Stars went 6-4 his junior year. As a member of the varsity squad as a sophomore, helped his team post a 5-1 record in Upstate Eight Conference play en route to a 7-2 season record. Earned a Prairie State Achievement Award in spring Personal: Born July 22, 1992 in Chicago, Ill. Son of Stacey and Kevin Brown. Organizational management major. Huskie Scholar carries a 3.13 GPA. His older brother, Patrick, was a four-year starter at the University of Central Florida and was on the practice squad with the Minnesota Vikings. 9 Devon butler LB Jr. 2L Pembroke Pines, Fla. Everglades Will sit out the 2011 campaign while recovering from injuries sustained in an off-the-fi eld incident in April. Enters his junior season with 95 career tackles, including 51 solo stops. Has nine and a half tackles for losses of 42 yards, and four and a half sacks for minus 32 yards. Has one interception for a touchdown and six pass break-ups while playing in 24 games with 13 starts. 2010: Played in every game and made 13 starts at middle linebacker for the Huskies. A third-team All-MAC selection. Totaled 80 total tackles with 41 solo to finish second on the team in total tackles, one behind leader Alex Kube. His 4.5 quarterback sacks were second on the team while his 7.5 tackles for loss and five pass break ups ranked third on the team. Intercepted one pass and forced a fumble. Led NIU versus Illinois (9-18) with a career-best 10 tackles, eight solo. Named NIU s Defensive Back of the Week after recording nine tackles, including a half sack and a tackle for loss against North Dakota (9-11). Collected eight tackles and broke up a pass against Minnesota (9-25). Returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown at Akron (10-2). Tallied five tackles and a pass break-up in the Huskies season opener at Iowa State (9-2). Added five tackles and a nine-yard quarterback sack against Temple (10-9). Named NIU s Defensive Linemen of the Week after recording four stops, including a tackle for loss, in the Buffalo game (10-16). Made five stops and broke up a pass versus Central Michigan (10-23).
