EDT SATURDAY, AUG. 16, 2014 LUCAS OIL STADIUM COLTS HOST NEW YORK GIANTS IN FIRST HOME PRESEASON GAME Colts Running Back Daniel Boom Herron The Indianapolis Colts will host the New York Giants in the second game of the preseason on Saturday. Kickoff is slated set for 7 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium. The matchup will mark the 14th all-time between the teams in the preseason, with the Colts holding an 8-5 overall advantage. It will also mark the first time the Giants have traveled to Indianapolis for a preseason game since 1984 when the Colts played in the Hoosier Dome. Last week, the Colts fell to the New York Jets by a score of The first-team offense drove 75 yards down the field and kicked a field goal on the opening possession. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck led both teams in passing, completing 10-of-15 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown. Running back Daniel Boom Herron reeled in six receptions for 36 yards while adding seven rushes for 26 yards. The defense held the Jets to just 91 total net yards in the first half. Inside linebacker Henoc Muamba finished with a game-high 11 tackles (nine solo) to go along with a forced fumble. Following Saturday s preseason contest against the Giants, the Colts will return to the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center to resume practice. GAMEDAY CHARITY COLLECTION School Supply Collection The Indianapolis Colts are teaming up with Teachers Treasures to collect school supplies for underserved youth. Fans are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate outside the gates at the Colts Community Collection Stations, presented by Toyota, before heading into Lucas Oil Stadium. The collection will run from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday. 50/50 RAFFLE During every 2014 home game, the Indianapolis Colts will host a 50/50 Raffle for fans. Tickets will be sold at six kiosks throughout the stadium as well as multiple mobile sellers. Tickets will be sold through the end of the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, the Colts will announce the winning number and amount. Fifty percent of the net proceeds from the day s ticket sales will go to one lucky fan and the remainder will support the work of the Indianapolis Colts Foundation in the community. The success culminated with an AFC South Division Championship in 2013 preceding an AFC Wild Card Playoff victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that marked the second-largest comeback in NFL postseason history. Pagano became the first head coach in team history and the eighth in NFL annals to lead a team to 11 wins in each of his first two seasons. He has coached 32 games without losing consecutive contests, which is the second-longest streak for a Colts head coach and the longest streak to start a career in franchise history. In 2013, Indianapolis recorded a perfect 6-0 division record for the first time since 2009 and claimed its eighth division title since In 2013, Indianapolis placed 17 players on Injured Reserve, including six starters, and witnessed an NFL-high 73 different players take at least one snap with the team. In 2012, the Colts overcame the loss of Pagano to acute promyelocytic leukemia for 12 games and responded with seven fourth quarter or overtime game-winning drives en route to an 11-5 campaign. Pagano previously spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the last (2011) as the team s defensive coordinator. FORMER COLTS / GIANTS Colts Secondary Coach Mike Gillhamer coached with the Giants from as the offensive assistant and then in 2000 as the running backs coach. Colts Assistant Special Teams Coach Brant Boyer worked as a training camp coaching intern with the Giants in Colts Senior Director of Communications Avis Roper served as the assistant director of communications with the Giants from Colts WR-Hakeem Nicks was drafted by the Giants with the 29th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. Nicks spent five seasons in New York ( ) and hauled in a team-leading 10 catches for 109 yards in the team s Super Bowl XLVI victory. Colts RB-Ahmad Bradshaw was a seventh round draft pick (250th overall) by the Giants in 2007 and spent six seasons with New York ( ). Bradshaw led Giants running backs with 45 yards on the ground in Super Bowl XLVI. Giants QB-Curtis Painter was a sixth round draft pick (201st overall) by the Colts in Painter spent three seasons in Indianapolis, totaling 1,624 yards passing, six touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 10 games played (eight starts). Giants S-Stevie Brown appeared in eight games for the Colts in COLLEGE CONNECTIONS Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano and Giants Offensive Line Coach Pat Flaherty were on the East Carolina staff together for the 1992 season. Both coached on the defensive side of the ball for the Pirates, with Pagano serving as the defensive backs coach and Flaherty coaching the defensive line. When Pagano was a senior playing safety for the Wyoming Cowboys in 1983, Giants Running Backs Coach Craig Johnson was serving as a graduate assistant. Colts Running Backs Coach David Walker and Giants Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo coached together at Pittsburgh in Walker oversaw the running backs and McAdoo served as an offensive assistant. Walker also coached alongside Giants Tight Ends Coach Kevin M. Gilbride at Syracuse in Walker oversaw the running backs and Gilbride served as an offensive graduate assistant. Both were on staff while Giants LB-Jameel McClain played for the Orange. Colts Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Richard Howell was playing quarterback at Davidson when Giants Special Teams Coordinator Tom Quinn served as linebackers coach for the Wildcats in Giants LS-Zak DeOssie worked with Colts Strength and Conditioning Coach Roger Marandino while at Brown from Colts Offensive Quality Control Coach Frank Giufre worked with two Giants players while serving as graduate assistant at Miami: LB-Jon Beason (2003) and S-Antrel Rolle ( ). Colts S-LaRon Landry ( ) spent his senior season at LSU as a teammate of Colts DT-Ricky Jean Francois (RS 2005, ) and ILB- Kelvin Sheppard (RS 2006, ), as well as Giants WR-Trindon Holliday ( ). Sheppard was later joined on the Tigers by Giants WR- Rueben Randle in 2009 and LB-Kendrick Adams in Colts RB-Dan Herron ( ) and T/G-Jack Mewhort ( ) played on the opposite side of the ball at Ohio State with Giants DB-C.J. Barnett ( ) and DT-Johnathan Hankins ( ). Colts G-Donald Thomas ( ) and DB-Darius Butler (2004 RS, COLTS / GIANTS CONNECTIONS ) played collegiately at Connecticut with Giants T-Will Beatty (2004 RS, ). Colts DE-Arthur Jones (2005 RS, ) spent two seasons on the Syracuse defensive line with Giants LB-Jameel McClain ( ). Jones was later joined on the Orange by Giants QB-Ryan Nassib in 2008 and T- Jordan Pugh in Colts DE-Fili Moala (2004 RS, ) was a redshirt freshman during Giants DT-Mike Patterson s final year at USC in A handful of Colts and Giants players are tied together by their experience playing for the Trojans over the years since then, including Colts FB-Stanley Havili (2006 RS, ) and C/G-Khaled Holmes (2008 RS, ), and Giants T- Charles Brown (2005 RS, ), LB-Devon Kennard ( ) and TE-Xavier Grimble (2010 RS, ). Colts NT-Brandon McKinney ( ) spent two years at Michigan State with Giants TE-Kellen Davis ( ) and one year alongside Giants CB- Ross Weaver ( ). Weaver was later joined on the Spartans by Colts CB-Johnny Adams ( ) and DE-Tyler Hoover (2008 RS, ). Colts OLB-Bjoern Werner and Giants DT-Everett Dawkins spent three seasons together on the Florida State defense. Colts FS-Sergio Brown and Giants LB-Dan Fox were teammates at Notre Dame in Colts T-Gosder Cherlius and Giants DE-Mathias Kiwanuka were teammates at Boston College for three seasons from Giants LB-Mark Herzlich would join Cherilus in 2006, and both would be accompanied by Colts T-Anthony Castonzo in Castonzo and Herzlich spent their final season on the Golden Eagles with Giants RB-Andre Williams in Colts WR-Eric Thomas and Giants WR-Jerrel Jernigan were teammates in the Troy receiving corps for the 2010 season. Colts K-Cody Parkey ( ) played at Auburn with Giants G-Brandon Mosley (2010) and G-John Sullen ( ). NFL CONNECTIONS Colts Offensive Assistant Tim Berbenich spent two seasons with the New York Jets working with Giants Secondary/Safeties coach David Merritt Sr. from In 2002, Berbenich served as the operations assistant and then moved to offensive assistant in 2003 while Merritt worked as the defensive assistant and linebackers coach during both seasons. Berbenich and Merritt were joined by Colts Offensive Coordinator Pep Hamilton during the 2003 season who served as offensive quality control coach. In 2005, Giants Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Markus Paul joined Berbenich and Hamilton as the director of physical development for the Jets. Colts Defensive Line Coach Gary Emanuel and Giants Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo coached together for the San Francisco 49ers in Emanuel served as the 49ers defensive line coach while McAdoo worked as the assistant offensive line and quality controls coach. During the 2009 season, Giants Defensive Line Coach Robert Nunn worked with Colts Tight Ends Coach Alfredo Roberts and Berbenich in Tampa Bay. Nunn served as the team s defensive line coach while Roberts worked as the tight ends coach and Berbenich was the assistant wide receivers coach. Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano and Giants LB-Jameel McClain spent four seasons together in Baltimore from Giants RB-Peyton Hillis and Colts Special Teams Coordinator Tom McMahon were together in Kansas City for a season in Giants TE-Daniel Fells and McMahon were together in St. Louis for two seasons: Giants WR-Preston Parker was with Tampa Bay for two seasons while two Colts coaches were on the Buccaneers staff, Berbenich and Roberts. Hamilton was the quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears for two seasons while Giants TE-Kellen Davis spent time with the team. Giants DT-Israel Idonije, CB-Zach Bowman and CB Trumaine McBride were also in Chicago with Hamilton and Davis. Colts Strength and Conditioning Coach Roger Marandino spent a season in Philadelphia with Giants DT-Cullen Jenkins, DT-Mike Patterson, and CB-Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in McMahon was the special teams coordinator for the St. Louis Rams from , spending three seasons with Giants K-Josh Brown. Colts Secondary Coach Mike Gillhamer spent four seasons with Giants LB-Jon Beason in Carolina from Giants G-Geoff Schwartz was with Gillhamer and Beason for two seasons with the Panthers from Colts QB-Matt Hasselbeck and Giants T-Troy Kropog were teammates in Tennessee from Hasselbeck and Brown played together in Seattle for five seasons, from During the 2010 season, Hasselbeck was also teammates with Giants CB-Walter Thurmond in Seattle. Colts DT-Ricky Jean Francois and Giants WR-Mario Manningham were teammates in San Francisco for the 2012 season. Colts CB-Josh Gordy and Brown played together in St. Louis during the 2011 season.
