8 SEAHAWKS NEWS & NOTES 12TH MAN ADVANTAGE Since week 16 of the 2002 season, the Seahawks have used the 12th Man to their advantage. During that span, Seattle is 21-3 at Qwest Field, tied with the New England Patriots for the best regular-season home record during that span. RECORD SINCE HOME WIN TEAM WEEK PERCENTAGE Seattle New England Denver St. Louis Kansas City FIRST THING S FIRST Seattle leads the NFL in scoring drives of 80 or more yards and ranks second in scoring average (29.2). To do that, first thing is first, get first downs to keep the chains moving. Plauged by minor injuries each of the last three seasons, Stevens has been somewhat limited behind the club s all-time leader at the position, Itula Mili; however, this season Stevens is putting up the numbers and is tracking single-season club records for most receptions and yards by a tight end. Stevens has a career-high 36 receptions for 462 yards, both in range of single-season marks. Tiki Barber in week 12 was the first back to eclipse 100 yards marking the latest in a season Seattle has allowed an opponent without a 100- yard rusher since The Seahawks did not allow a single rusher to gain 100 yards that season. The Seahawks have also only allowed three rushing touchdowns this season, on pace to allow the fewest since a club record four in The defensive unit also ranks 10th versus the run and is allowing yards per game. The Seahawks continue to lead the NFL with 45 sacks. Eleven different players have contributed to the total while 30.0 sacks have come from defensive linemen, 11.0 from two rookie linebackers and 3.0 from the defensive backs (two team sacks). The Seahawks have posted at least three sacks in 11 of 13 games this season and four or more six times. Seattle had just 29 sacks through 12 games in 2004 and 36 all of last season. 9 SEAHAWKS NEWS & NOTES ROOKIES SURPRISE Two of Seattle starting linebackers are rookies, a first for Head Coach Mike Holmgren. However, by watching the duos poise and playmaking abilities it may not come as a surprise to many. Lofa Tatupu is quickly becoming the leader of a defensive squad that ranks second in red zone defense, fourth in scoring defense and 11th overall. Tatupu leads the team with 94 tackles, tied for second with three interceptions and is tied for fourth with 4.0 sacks. In just six starts, Leroy Hill has collected seven sacks, tied for tops among all NFL rookies NFL ROOKIE SACK LEADERS Round Sacks Player Drafted Team 7.0 Leroy Hill 4th Seattle 7.0 Shawne Merriman 1st San Diego 5.0 Trent Cole 5th Philadelphia 4.0 Lofa Tatupu 2nd Seattle 4.0 Demarcus Ware 1st Dallas 3.5 Martin Patterson Undrafted Philadelphia #51 LOFA TATUPU NO LOAFIN AROUND For Seahawks rookie of the year candidate MLB Lofa Tatupu, loafing on the field isn t an option. Although some considered him undersized before the draft, Tatupu has used hard work and football instincts to become the Seahawks leader in total tackles with 94. Tatupu has also registered 4.0 sacks and three interceptions. Tatupu led team with a career high 13 tackles versus New York and is on pace to lead the team with 116 tackles this season. Versus Philadelphia, his 38-yard interception return for TD contributed to a 42-0 shut out in Philadelphia and a share of the network s Horse Trailer Award. He helped Seattle outscore Philadelphia and San Francisco 83-3 marking the largest margin of victory over consecutive games in club history. Given the task as a rookie middle linebacker making all of the defensive calls, Tatupu would become only the second rookie in team history to lead the team in tackles and the first since Terry Beeson registered 134 in #56 LEROY HILL HILL TOPPING Although Seahawks rookie LB Leroy Hill has started just six games, he has a knack for finding the quarterback and is coming near to topping the Seahawks list for most sacks by a rookie. Hill s 7.0 sacks are tied for the most among NFL rookies with San Diego s Shawne Merriman. He s already set a club record for most sacks by a rookie linebacker passing Brian Bosworth s 1987 total (4.0). Jurevicius set career highs with nine receptions for 137 yards, including a 52-yard reception and his third touchdown of the season at St. Louis. The performance marked Jurevicius second-career game with 100 or more yards receiving (100 vs. Atlanta, 12/6/02). His nine receptions eclipsed his previous best of eight catches in a game which he had posted twice (vs. Atlanta-12/6/02, vs. Green Bay-1/6/02). Jurevicius matched that 137 effort with the same yard total versus the N.Y. Giants (11/27) including two TDs. He leads the team with a career-high eight TDs. #94 BRYCE FISHER GO FISH! Seahawks DE Bryce Fisher has been a vital cog for Seattle s defense reeling in 8.0 sacks on the season. His 8.0 sacks are second on the team behind Rocky Bernard s 8.5. Fisher is one sack away from a career high after registering 8.5 last season while playing for the St. Louis Rams. Hampered by a sore foot and missing all week of practice, Fisher saw limited action at Philadelphia but still managed to tag-team with Leroy Hill to share a sack. Fisher has recorded at least half of a sack in seven of 13 games this season. PEAK PERFORMERS In order to be called a peak performer, typically a running back has to rush for 100 yards and a quarterback pass for 300 yards. If that is true, then Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck are two of the Seahawks all-time peak performers. At St. Louis (10/9), Alexander rushed for 100 or more yards for the 25th time, eclipsing Chris Warren s club record of 24. In the same game, Hasselbeck broke Dave Krieg s club record of yard games with his 12th game passing for 300 or more yards. RUSHING FOR DIMES Shaun Alexander has leads the NFL in 2005 with 44 carries of 10 yards or more, nine more than runner up Tiki Barber who has totaled 35. Although it took until late in the third quarter versus the NY Giants (11/27), his streak continued to 49 consecutive games. Since the beginning of 2003, Alexander has had 132 rushes of 10 or more yards, also tops in the NFL. DIVISION DOES THE MATH Since week nine of the 2004 season, the NFC West has been trying to calculate Alexander s rushing totals.
