2 THE HEAD COACHES CHICAGO BEARS John Fox Named the fi fteenth head coach in Chicago Bears history on January 16, 2015, John Fox joined the Bears with 13 years of NFL head coaching experience with the Denver Broncos ( ) and Carolina Panthers ( ). He has compiled a (.572) regular season record, six division titles, six doubledigit win seasons and seven playoff appearances. In the postseason, Fox has amassed an 8-7 (.533) record as a head coach with three conference championship game appearances leading to two trips to the Super Bowl (XXXVIII with Carolina in 2003 and XLVIII with Denver in 2013).Prior to coaching the Panthers, Fox was the defensive coordinator for the N.Y. Giants ( ). In 2000, Fox helped the Giants reach Super Bowl XXXV, including posting the fi rst shutout in a conference title game since Before joining the Giants, was a Rams consultant (1996), defensive coordinator for the Raiders ( ), defensive backs coach for the Chargers ( ) and Steelers ( ), and secondary coach for the USFL s L.A. Express (1985). Fox also coached collegiately at San Diego St. (1978), U.S. International (1979) Boise St. (1980), Long Beach St. (1981), Utah (1982), Kansas (1983), Iowa St. (1984), and Pittsburgh ( ). GREEN BAY PACKERS Mike McCarthy Mike McCarthy is in his 10th year as head coach of the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy has led the Packers to six division titles, seven playoff appearances, three NFC Championship game appearances and the Super Bowl XLV title. He is sixth among active head coaches in career wins ( overall including the postseason). The Packers have won four consecutive division titles under McCarthy. Their seven postseason berths over the past eight seasons are the most by an NFC team. Prior to being named the 14 th head coach in Packers history on Jan. 12, 2006, McCarthy was the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers (2005) after serving in the same role for the New Orleans Saints from While with the Saints, McCarthy was named the NFC Assistant Coach of the Year (2000). The two teams met for 59 straight years starting in 1923 until the players strike cancelled both contests in Since that time, two of the longest winning streaks in the series have been recorded. The two previous season openers at home against the Packers came on September 2, 1979, a 6-3 Bears victory and September 6, 1981, a 16-9 Green Bay win. Both of those match-ups came at Soldier Field. Chicago last opened the season against Green Bay on September 13, 2009, at Lambeau Field with the Packers claiming a victory on NBC s Sunday Night Football.
