4 LAST PRESEASON GAME vs. CLEVELAND Cleveland 13, Chicago 10 Thursday, September 2, Cleveland Browns Stadium CLEVELAND - Browns K Phil Dawson hit a 36-yard fi eld goal as time expired to give Cleveland a victory over the Bears at Cleveland Browns Stadium to close out the 2010 preseason. With a handful of Bears fi rst-team starters missing on offense and defense, the units were productive in their limited time on the fi eld. Starters Jay Cutler (QB), Olin Kreutz (C) and Matt Forté (RB) all sat out the Bears preseason fi nale on the offensive side of the ball. Veteran-signal-caller Todd Collins saw his fi rst action with the Bears, playing the fi rst half of the contest. Collins was productive, completed 10 of 15 pass attempts for 139 yards and a touchdown for a passer rating. The touchdown was a 15-yard strike to TE Greg Olsen, which gave the Bears a 7-0 lead fi ve minutes into the fi rst quarter of play. The drive was set up after the fi rst -team defense recovered a fumble attempt in the unit s only play of action. MLB Brian Urlacher and WLB Lance Briggs both sat out but fi rst-year linebacker Kevin Malast, starting in place of Urlacher, took advantage of his time with the unit, recovering a botched exchange between Browns C Shawn Lauvao and rookie QB Colt McCoy at the Browns 19. This was the second-straight year the Bears No. 1 defense exited the preseason fi nale after generating a turnover on its only play after CB Zackary Bowman had an interception against the Browns in 2009 at Soldier Field. The Browns tied the score on a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Montario Hardesty with 3:40 to play in the fi rst quarter. Like the Bears touchdown, Cleveland s score was set up by a botched center-quarterback exchange after Collins was trying to signal for a timeout when backup C Josh Beekman s shotgun snap glanced off the quarterback s facemask. Browns LB Jason Trusnik recovered the fumble at the Bears 13. After Dawson s 24-yard fi eld goal gave the Browns a 10-7 lead with 3:29 left in the second period, the Bears tied the game on K Robbie Gould s 46-yard fi eld goal two minutes later. Gould s kick was set up by Collins completions of 22 and 18 yards to WR Rashied Davis. The second half degenerated into a punting duel between Brad Maynard of the Bears and Reggie Hodges of the Browns. The two combined for nine punts in the fi nal two quarters. Maynard s last effort was blocked by DeAngelo Smith, setting up Dawson s winning fi eld goal. McCoy was 13 of 13 for 131 yards for the Browns before exiting in the third quarter. As Forté rested, Chester Taylor totaled 23 rushing yards on four carries (5.8 ypr) and added 12 receiving yards on two catches. Jay Cutler enters his sixth NFL season having completed 1,359 of 2,207 passing attempts for 15,964 passing yards, 104 touchdowns and 79 interceptions to compile an 84.3 passer rating. In two seasons with the Bears, Cutler has established the top passer rating in franchise history (80.9), ranks tied for sixth in touchdown passes (50), eighth in passing yards (6,940) and third in completion percentage (60.5). Also a threat on the ground, Cutler had a career-high 232 rushing yards in 2010, sixth in the NFL among quarterbacks, and has rushed for 828 yards in his career with fi ve touchdowns. In Chicago s third preseason game at Tennessee, he was 13 of 21 passing for 170 yards and an interception. Backing up Cutler will be Caleb Hanie and rookie Nathan Enderle. Hanie is in his fourth season with the Bears after signing as an undrafted rookie free agent in He has appeared in four regular season contests completing eight of 14 pass attempts for 66 yards and an interception. During the NFC Championship game last season, Hanie replaced an injured Cutler and led the Bears on two scoring drives, completing 13 of 20 passing attempts for 153 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Versus Buffalo, Hanie completed three of seven pass attempts for 32 yards and found the endzone on a four-yard run for the only touchdown of the game. In his second preseason contest, Hanie completed 17 of 28 pass attempts for 166 yards with one interception, leading the Bears to their only touchdown drive of the contest. In Tennessee, Hanie completed nine of 18 pass attempts for 107 yards and an interception. Enderle, the team s fi fth round pick (160th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft, fi nished his career at the University of Idaho as the school s all-time leader in attempts (1,427), ranking second in school annals in completions (779), third in passing yards (10,084) and fourth in TD passes (81) and total offense yards (9,935) in 45 games as a four-year starter. In his fi rst NFL preseason action, Enderle completed seven of 10 passing attempts for a game-high 110 yards with an interception versus Buffalo, leading the Bears to a fi eld goal in the fourth quarter. RUNNING BACKS (8) - Coach Tim Spencer Quickly becoming one of the deepest units on the Bears roster, a pair of familiar veteran dual-threats will roam the Bears backfi eld once again, while a new veteran face will add even more depth to the group. Matt Forté enters his fourth season with the Bears, ranking fi fth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage (4,731) since Starting all 48 games in his fi rst three years with the team, Forté has rushed for 3,236 yards and 18 touchdowns on 811 carries (4.0 ypc). His 171 receptions and 1,495 receiving yards since joining the league in 2008 are the second most by a NFL running back during that span. In 2010, Forté joined Hall of Famer Walter Payton as the only running backs in team history to have 1,000 rushing yards (1,069) and 500 receiving yards (547) in a single season. His 4.5 yards per carry in 2010, was highest by a Bears running back since Neal Anderson in 1989 (minimum 200 attempts). In his fi rst start of the 2011 preseason, Forté played in one series and caught one pass for zero yards. Forté totaled 49 yards on fi ve touches in the second preseason contest at New York with four carries for seven yards and one reception for a 42-yard gain. In Chicago s third preseason game at the Titans, Forté had a game-high 74 rushing yards on 17 attempts (4.4 ypc) with a touchdown, adding a 15 yard reception. Chester Taylor enters his second season with the Bears and 10th in the NFL. His 285 receptions and 2,233 receiving yards since entering the league in 2002 are eighth among NFL running backs during that span. Taylor has also rushed for 4,663 yards and 25 touchdowns on 1,140 carries (4.1 ypc) during his career. In 2010, Taylor converted nine of 11 attempts into fi rst downs on third-and-1 and fourth-and-1 situations during the regular and post season, including fi ve for touchdowns. Taylor carried the ball three times in the Bears preseason opener versus Buffalo for three yards. Taylor had seven rushing yards on three carries at the New York Giants in Chicago s second preseason contest, adding a six-yard reception. He did not play at Tennessee. At the beginning of the Bears 2011 training camp, Chicago signed veteran Marion Barber. Barber spent the last six seasons ( ) with the Dallas Cowboys, carrying the ball 1,042 times for 4,358 (4.2 ypc) and 47 touchdowns in 88 games (41 starts). His 47 rushing touchdowns during that span ranks sixth in the NFL. He added 1,280 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 174 receptions (7.4 ypr). Barber reached the Pro Bowl following the 2007 season. Barber carred the ball seven times for 45 yards (6.4 ypc) versus Buffalo in the preseason opener. At the Giants, in the Bears second preseason game, Barber totaled 80 yards with 49 on the ground (13 carries) and 31 receiving (team-high fi ve catches). At the Titans, Barber had a two-yard run and eight-yard reception before leaving with a calf injury. A-5

6 Third-year back Kahlil Bell burst onto the scene in 2009 after he took his fi rst career NFL carry for 72 yards. For his career, Bell has 220 rushing yards on 40 attempts (5.5 ypc). Bell totaled 119 yards with a game-high 73 yards rushing on 13 carries (5.6 ypc) and two receptions for 46 yards (23.0 ypr) in the Bears fi rst preseason game of 2011 versus Buffalo. Bell had 10 rushing yards and a touchdown (four carries) in Chicago s second preseason contest at the New York Giants, adding a nine-yard reception. In the third preseason game at Tennessee, Bell had 48 rushing yards on 11 attempts (4.4 ypc) and three receptions for 20 yards. A handful of young backs will also look to make an impact and add even more depth to the group. In 2010, the Bears made Harvey Unga their fi rst-ever supplemental draft choice when they selected him in the seventh round, however he spent the entire regular season on injured reserve. Unga carried the ball nine times for 27 yards (3.0 ypc) in the Bears preseason opener versus Buffalo. Eddie Williams has spent most of his career on the Bears (2010) and Redskins (2009) practice squad. He was elevated to Washington s active roster on November 2, 2009 but was inactive for three contests before being placed on injured reserve. At Idaho, Williams caught 100 passes for 1,205 yards and 11 touchdowns, adding 19 rushes for 195 yards and three scores. Known for his blocking, Ta ufo ou received all-pac 10 honorable mention as a senior at Cal (2008). Robert Hughes (Notre Dame) also joined the team as an undrafted free agent. WIDE RECEIVERS (10) - Coach Darryl Drake Looking to add a new dynamic to a young, yet explosive group, the Bears signed two tall veterans to strengthen an already solid receiving corps that has size, speed and play-making ability. The Bears added veteran receiver Roy Williams at the beginning of the preseason, giving the Bears a 6-3, 215-pound target. Williams has hauled in 356 receptions for 5,208 yards (14.6 ypc) and 42 touchdowns in 100 career games played (84 starts). He was in Detroit when current Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz held the same title for the Lions ( ). In the third preseason start at Tennessee, Williams had two receptions for 33 yards. Entering his fourth full season as a wideout for the Chicago Bears, Devin Hester has 168 career receptions for 2,196 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2010, Hester had 40 receptions for 475 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. He is the 10th player in NFL history with 2,000 receiving, punt and kickoff return yards. Hester recorded three receptions for 46 yards at New York, including a 37-yard grab. In his third start of the 2011 preseason, Hester had two receptions for 31 yards. Wideout Johnny Knox has 96 receptions for 1,487 yards (15.5 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns in his fi rst two seasons for Chicago. In 2010, Knox ranked fi fth in the NFL in receiving average, 18.8 ypc, after hauling in 51 passes for 960 yards. Knox s 960 receiving yards were 13th most in Bears single-season franchise history and most since Marty Booker in Knox had one reception for 11 yards in the Bears preseason opener versus Buffalo. He added two receptions for 21 yards, including a 20-yarder, in the Bears second preseason game against the Giants. At the Titans, Knox had a 21-yard reception. In three previous seasons, Earl Bennett has hauled in 100 receptions for 1,278 yards and fi ve touchdowns. In 2010, Bennett had 46 receptions for 561 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Over the last nine weeks of the 2010 regular season, Bennett had 11 receptions on third down, converting all of them for fi rst downs, tied for ninth most in the NFL. Bennett had a seven-yard reception in the Bears preseason opener versus Buffalo. In the Bears second preseason contest at the New York Giants, Bennett had three receptions for a game-high 58 receiving yards, including two receptions of 20-plus yards (32 and 21) from Cutler. In Tennessee, Bennett once again paced all receivers in the game with 89 receiving yards on six catches. Along with Williams, the Bears brought in another tall (6-3) target in Sam Hurd. In fi ve seasons with the Cowboys, Hurd had 45 receptions for 630 yards and two touchdowns. Known for his versatility and strength, Hurd registered 72 special teams tackles including 40 over the last two seasons - and two forced fumbles. Jones has spent time with the Chargers, Packers, Colts, Cardinals and Redskins, seeing a majority of his time on practice squads having never appeared in a regular season game. Jones had three grabs for 48 yards in the Bears second preseason contest at New York. He had a 20-yard grab in Tennessee. Andy Fantuz will join the Bears from the Canadian Football League where he led the CFL with 1,380 receiving yards on 87 catches (15.9 ypc) and 6 touchdowns in Fantuz spent fi ve seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders ( ) in the CFL, hauling in 276 receptions for 4,136 yards (15.0 ypc) and 23 touchdowns.
