Att.: 92,512 Louisiana Tech #2 LSU 58 BATON ROUGE, La. - Five Louisiana Tech turnovers, untimely penalties and several big plays by LSU were too much for the Bulldogs to overcome in a loss to the soon-to-be top-ranked Bayou Bengals at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Tech (4-6, 3-3 WAC) fumbled the ball away three times, threw two interceptions, was stuffed on a fake field goal attempt and gave up plays of 71 and 86 yards in the contest. The Bulldogs mostly outplayed the Tigers in the first half, outgaining them for most of the half. Senior quarterback Zac Champion completed 20 of his 39 attempts for 189 yards and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions on the day. Patrick Jackson led the Bulldog rushing attack with 42 yards on nine carries. Phillip Livas, making his first appearance as Tech s primary kick returner, had 183 yards on five kickoff returns. LSU s Jacob Hester carried the ball 11 times for 115 yards and a touchdown. Matt Flynn completed 14 of 26 attempts for 237 yards and three touchdowns, throwing two interceptions. Defensively, the Bulldogs were led by Antonio Baker with 12 tackles while Deon Young added 10. The Tigers (9-1, 5-1 SEC) outgained the Bulldogs on the afternoon. It marked the most yards allowed by Tech on the season, surpassing Hawaii s total by two yards. Just off the heels of a loss to No. 5 Boise State, Louisiana Tech must now turn around to face No. 9 LSU in Baton Rouge. Since 1989, Louisiana Tech is 3-26 against teams ranked in the Top 25. Hoping to Break a Streak of 23 Straight Entering this week s game, LSU has won 23 consecutive games against in-state opponents. That streak of wins against in-state opponents is second only to Ohio State. The Buckeyes haven t lost a football game to another team from Ohio since dropping a 7-6 decision to Oberlin in With one game ending in a tie, it s 41 straight games without a loss and it s 35 straight wins after a tie, if you re scoring at home. Running Up the Body Count Louisiana Tech has been bitten hard by the injury bug, moreso than any other team in the nation. Taking the team s depth chart from entering the season, Tech has had 18 players miss at least one-half of football due to injury or other related circumstances (this includes two players who have left the team due to personal reasons). Entering this week s game, Tech has eight starters out injured. Highlighting the list of the injured includes free safety Antonio Baker, whose Tech career came to an end against No. 5 Boise State when a broken tibia cut short his senior season. In an sent out to Division I-FBS SIDs across the nation, no other team has reported as many injuries to key personnel as Louisiana Tech has had this season. The interesting note regarding the injuries is that most of the injuries are not happening on the offensive or defensive lines, as would normally happen throughout a physical season, but it is a list of all sorts of injuries happening at the skill positions: running back, wide receiver, cornerback, safety, etc. Porter Nearing 3,000 Career Rushing Yards Daniel Porter enters this week s game at No. 9 LSU with an opportunity to become only the third player in Louisiana Tech history to record 3,000 rushing yards. Only Jason Cooper (3,342 yds, ) and Ryan Moats (3,112 yds, ) have achieved such a feat while wearing a Tech jersey. Porter enters the game with 2,952 career rushing yards, only 48 rushing yards shy of the 3,000 mark. Hitt vs. Hitt: It s a Family Thing When Louisiana Tech lines up for the first play from scrimmage on defense, it will be a battle of two brothers. Tech will be starting #90 Mason Hitt at left defensive tackle this week at LSU so that he lines up opposite his brother, #65 Lyle Hitt, a right guard for the Tigers. No. 1 Play Dennis Morris touchdown catch against No. 5 Boise State turned heads across the nation as the tight end reached over his defender to pull in the football. Even the powers-that-be in Bristol, Conn. were impressed by Morris catch as ESPN ranked it the No. 1 play on SportsCenter s Top 10 plays on Friday, Nov. 6. LA Tech-Boise State Game Marked 140th Anniversary of College Football s Beginning When Louisiana Tech hosts Boise State on Friday evening at Joe Aillet Stadium, it will mark the 140 years to the day that the first college football game was played. On Nov. 6, 1869, nearly 100 spectators gathered to witness the first-ever college football game between Rutgers and Princeton. That game was reportedly replete with surprise, strategy, prodigies of determination and physical prowess. Rutgers defeated Princeton, 6-4. Could It Be the Opponent? Louisiana Tech seems to be a tale of two teams this season with three dominating wins at home and four losses on the road. But that could not just be the Bulldogs not playing on the road when you take a look at the competition level Louisiana Tech is facing. Using the Sagarin ratings, Tech s home opponents have an average rating of 163 while Tech s road opponents have an average Sagarin rating of 66. With only one exception on either side, no home opponent has a Sagarin rating better than 97 (Boise State being the exceptoin) and no road opponent has a Sagarin rating worse than 71 (Utah State being the exception). Italics denote opponent Tech has yet to play LA Tech Football

5 Daunting Schedule Louisiana Tech has a daunting schedule in Of the top 20 teams to record the most wins over the last six years, five of those teams dot the LA Tech schedule, including Auburn (14th) and Navy (18th), Tech s first two opponents. Other opponents atop the national leaderboard in wins over the last six years include Boise State (2nd), LSU (5th) and Hawai i (23rd). Most Wins Over the Last Six Years Rk. Over the last five years, LA Tech has led the nation with nine non-conference games against ranked opponents. Of note for this week s game at Auburn, the Tigers on the Plains have played none out of the 117 conference-affiliated teams in Division I FBS. Only Temple and Troy have equaled LA Tech s challenge in playing nine non-conference games against ranked opponents. Joe Aillet is a Tough Place to Play... It always nice to be home and Louisiana Tech has experienced recent success in the friendly confines of Joe Aillet Stadium. LA Tech has won nine of its last 10 games at Aillet Stadium with the Bulldogs only loss in that stretch being a four-point game against Nevada last season, a thriller....it Is a Common Theme in the WAC The fact that Louisiana Tech has had recent success at home is no aberration - six of the league s nine teams have a winning record at home since 2005 (when the current formation of the WAC fell into place). Since 2005, Louisiana Tech has the third-best winning percentage at home in the conference while Boise State, with an unblemished 29-0 record, ists atop the league. 1. Stuart (So.), Tyrone Duplessis (Fr.) and Colby Cameron (R-Fr.). As head coach Derek Dooley continues to rebuild the program, Tech s young personnel is just a result of growing pains. Banged Up, Bruised, But Not Broken By the end of Louisiana Tech s Oct. 31 game at Idaho, Tech had eight players on its depth chart out and another three playing while nicked up. That put Tech in the position to have so many young players on the field for the final drive of the game (see note above). Despite so many injuries and so many young players in skill positions on the field in a critical moment in the game and despite some interesting interpretations on the field by the officials, Louisiana Tech still drove 38 yards in seven plays to put the Bulldogs in field goal range. Tech is considering removing the word Depth from Depth Chart. Opposing Offenses Struggling to Reach the End Zone at Joe Aillet Stadium With 44 second remaining in the first quarter on Nov. 6, fifth-ranked Boise State became the first opposing offense to reach the end zone at Joe Aillet Stadium in almost nine consecutive quarters played. Neither Hawai i or New Mexico State was able to score an offensive touchdown earlier this season. Had Boise State s offensive touchdown came in the second quarter, it would have marked nine consecutive quarters played without an opposing offensive touchdown. The stretch began on Sept. 30 when Hawai i was held out of the end zone for the first time in 63 games and continued on Oct. 17 against NMSU. The Aggies only touchdown came as the NMSU defense recovered a Tech fumble and ran it into the end zone. Morris Records Career Day in Win over New Mexico State Louisiana Tech tight end Dennis Morris recorded a career day against New Mexico State on Oct. 17, becoming the first Bulldog player since Josh Wheeler in 2006 to record two receiving touchdowns in a game. Morris recorded a career-best 126 receiving yards on six catches and was the first LA Tech player to record 100-plus receiving yards in a game in 364 days - when Morris recorded 121 receiving yards against Idaho on Oct. 18, Not So Fast, My Friend Hawai i was unable to reach the end zone in Louisiana Tech s 27-6 win over the Warriors, ending a streak of 62 consecutive games that Hawai i has scored a touchdown (2004 vs. Boise State). Sack It To Me Louisiana Tech registered seven sacks against Hawai i on Sept. 30, the most a LA Tech team has recorded in a game since getting nine sacks (for a loss of 58 yards) against Nevada in Four Bulldogs Atop National Charts of Active Career leaders Entering this week s game, Louisiana Tech has four players that are listed in the national charts for active career leaders (see p.16-17). 10 As the only head football coach in the country who also serves as the university s athletics director, Derek Dooley enters his third season at Louisiana Tech leading both the football program and the athletic department into a new era of unprecedented change. Since he stepped on campus Dec. 17, 2006, when he was named the 31st head coach in Bulldog football history, Dooley has rebranded not only the reputation but the perception of Louisiana Tech Athletics on a regional and national level. His work ethic and incredible vision during his first year as the Bulldog head coach was so impressive that Louisiana Tech President Dr. Dan Reneau added a line to Dooley s business cards March 6, 2008 when he named him athletics director. Dooley s hiring and immediate success at Louisiana Tech have drawn rave reviews from some of the university s top alumni. Derek is exactly what I hoped he would be, said NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. As far as I am concerned, he has exceeded everyone s expectations, including the 65,000 alumni. He is making people stand up and take notice of Louisiana Tech. What we have is a man who has a vision for this program and this university; he wants to make it something special. He has a plan. It is an energetic, aggressive plan, and I could not be more proud to have him as our AD and our football coach. As a football coach, the son of former Georgia coaching legend Vince Dooley comes by his talent honestly. In just two short years as head football coach, Dooley has led the Bulldogs to their first bowl victory in more than 30 years as LA Tech defeated Northern Illinois in the 2008 Independence Bowl. The bowl appearance was only their third since Louisiana Tech joined the FBS ranks 20 years ago. After posting a 3-10 mark in 2006, the year before Dooley was hired, Tech recorded an 8-5 mark last season, which includes wins over SEC foe Mississippi State and bowl-bound Fresno State, and a second-place finish in the Western Athletic Conference standings -- a conference that boasts six bowl eligible teams out of the nine members. Dooley s work the past two years didn t go unnoticed as he was named the Coach of the Year in the state of Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Derek Dooley Head Coach/Athletics Director Writers Association, the first time a LA Tech coach earned the honor in a decade. Dooley s influence has been seen in all phases of the Bulldog program, and the three-year comparisons show the differences that Dooley has made during his first two years at the helm. pre-dooley Dooley 1 Dooley 2 Category Record WAC Turnover Margin Scoring Offense Scoring Defense Rushing Offense Rushing Defense Special Teams TDs Blocked Kicks Not only has Tech seen improvements over a three-year span, but some of the Bulldogs numbers are also the best since the program joined the FBS in Tech s defense ranked 13th in the country against the run allowing only yards per game in 2008, the best mark by a Bulldog team since the program joined the FBS in Tech s defense allowed 23.7 points per game, the fewest by a Bulldog program since Tech s defense recorded a 21-0 road shutout over San Jose State last season, the first shut out by a Bulldog team since 1996 (148 games). It was the first road shutout since 1988 (225 games) and the first time San Jose State had been shutout at home since Tech s defense allowed only yards per game, the best by a Bulldog team since Tech s punt return unit averaged 13.0 yards per return in 2008 (14th nationally) and 14.5 yard per return in 2007 (8th nationally), the best two averages since the program joined the FBS in Tech s kickoff return units averaged 23.8 yards per return in 2008 (17th nationally) and 23.1 yards per return in 2007 (26th nationally), two of the top three averages since the program joined the FBS in Tech has returned four kicks (two kickoffs, two punts) for touchdowns in the last two years (two other returns for TDs were called back due to penalty). In the previous 18 years ( ), Tech returned a total of five kicks for touchdowns. Tech s special teams have blocked 10 kicks (5 FGs, 5 punts) in the last two years. The previous two years Tech only blocked three kicks. These improvements have not gone unnoticed by Dooley s peers in the Western Athletic Conference as the Bulldogs landed 13 players on the all-wac team in Dooley s two years, including a program record four first teamers last season. Tech also had a program record eight WAC Player of the Week honorees in Tech s football program has also been recognized nationally for the student-athletes work off the playing field. Dooley is no stranger to collegiate athletics, growing up as the son of legendary Georgia head coach Vince Dooley, who also served in the dual role of athletic director during his time in Athens. He s seen first-hand what it takes to succeed. He has brought that knowledge and the roll-upyour-sleeves-and-get-to-work mentality with him to Ruston. It s not going unnoticed. Dooley came to Louisiana Tech following a two-year stint as the tight ends coach for the Miami Dolphins, and at age 40, he is one of the youngest head coaches in the FBS ranks. During his two years with the Dolphins, Dooley oversaw the continued development of tight end Randy McMichael, who ended his Dolphins career as the all-time leader in receptions by a tight end. Prior to joining the Dolphins, Dooley spent the previous five years at LSU, including the 2004 season when he served as assistant head coach/ special teams coordinator/running backs coach. In 2003, running back Justin Vincent set an LSU freshman record by rushing for 1,001 yards, as he went on to be named MVP of both the SEC championship game as well as the Sugar Bowl, in which LSU claimed the BCS national title. In 2004, the Tigers finished first in the SEC in rushing (193.8 yards per game), led by Alley Broussard (867 yards, 6.1 avg.) a n d Joseph Addai (680 yards, 6.7 avg.), a first-round draft choice of Indianapolis in Dooley s special teams unit ranked among the best in the conference during his tenure at LSU, as they finished first in the SEC in net punting (2003), punt returns (2003) and kickoff coverage (2003 and 2004). Dooley first went to Baton Rouge in 2000 as the Tigers recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach, a position in which he served three years ( ). During this time, Robert Royal set an LSU single-season record for touchdowns by a tight end (5 in 2000) and was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference in both 2000 and As a recruiting coordinator, Dooley s 2003 recruiting class ranked No. 1 in the country by every major recruiting publication, while his 2001 class was ranked in the top three nationally. Prior to joining LSU, Dooley spent the seasons as wide receivers coach at SMU, while also holding the duties of assistant recruiting coordinator for his final two years. That followed a oneyear stint (1996) as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia LA Tech Football

I think he s got all the right stuff and ingredients to be successful as a head coach. -- Nick Saban University of Alabama head coach, former LSU and Miami Dolphins head coach One of a Kind Derek Dooley is the only individual to hold the dual role of head coach and athletic director in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Dooley was named athletic director - replacing the retired Jim Oakes - in a press conference on March 6, 2008 held in the Hall of Fame Room of the Thomas Assembly Center. He follows in his father s footsteps who also held the dual role at the University of Georgia for many years. Changing the Face......of Tech Athletics Louisiana Tech athletic director/head coach Derek Dooley has a vision for the future of the university s athletic programs. Here are a few of the changes that have already taken places: New Logo - Louisiana Tech hired Rickenbaugh Graphics to create an official Bulldog logo as well as official wordmarks and a sleeker-looking state and T logo. Louisiana Tech will also be using LA Tech as a reference, something it has not done in the past. Learfield Sports - Louisiana Tech signed a 10-year multi-media contract with Learfield Sports to be the university s exclusive athletics marketing partner starting in Learfield has established LA Tech Sports Properties and oversees every aspect of the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters rights, including television, radio, corporate sponsorships, event marketing, athletic website advertising, venue signage and more. The deal also helped LA Tech install its brand new videoboard at Joe Aillet Stadium, which will debut on Sept. 19 for Louisiana Tech s home opener against Nicholls State. Facilities - Louisiana Tech has built new tennis court facilities, new bowling alley facilities, a new track and field complex, new student housing, new basketball court, new baseball scoreboard and press box, new football locker rooms and more just in the last year. There are plans in the works for more athletic facility upgrades, renovations and new facilities in the next few years. Att.: 29,102 Louisiana TEch 4 Navy 32 Auburn, Ala. - Auburn quarterback Chris Todd connected with Terrell Zachary for a 93-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter to ignite a strong second half by the Tigers who defeated Louisiana Tech before over 81,143 fans Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Bulldogs stood toe-to-toe with the Tigers (1-0) in the opening two quarters as only a 49-yard Wes Byrum field goal as time expired in the half separated the two teams as Auburn led entering the locker room. However, early in the second half with LA Tech driving, the Tigers defense intercepted Ross Jenkins on their own three-yard line. On a third down and five play following the turnover, Todd hit Zachary on an out-and-up and Zachary raced untouched to the end zone giving Auburn a lead. The Bulldogs would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game as the Tigers outscored them 24-3 over the final two quarters. Auburn racked up over 500 yards of total offense in the game, including more than 200 on both the ground and through the air. After not surrendering a 100-yard rusher in 2008, the LA Tech defense saw both Ben Tate (20-117) and Onterio McCalebb (22-148) eclipse the plateau. McCalebb became the first Auburn freshman to rush for more than 100 yards in their first career game since Bo Jackson accomplished the feat in The Bulldogs totaled 245 yards of total offense and 19 first downs. Daniel Porter led Tech with 56 yards on 17 carries while Jenkins completed 18-of-33 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Jenkins started the game hitting on his first 10 attempts, a career best, as his first incompletion didn t occur until less than four minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-0 advantage less than six minutes into the game compliments of a Daniel Porter three-yard touchdown run and a Phillip Livas 85-yard punt return before Navy scored 32 unanswered points as LA Tech fell to 0-2 on the season. Tech marched 74 yards on 10 plays on its opening possession as Porter gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead on the three-yard run with 11:15 to play in the first quarter. Quarterback Ross Jenkins orchestrated the drive, completing 6-of-7 passes for 74 yards, including a key 27-yard completion to RP Stuart down to the Navy three-yard line on a third-and-16 play. After a three-and-out by the Midshipmen, Livas provided the Bulldog faithful an electrifying 85-yard punt return for a touchdown. Livas fielded the punt on the Bulldogs 15-yard line, burst up the middle and then took it outside racing untouched down the Bulldog sideline for an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. The punt return for a score was the third of Livas career, tying him with Larry Anderson for the most in Bulldog history. It was also his fifth kick return (punt + kickoff) for a score, also tying Anderson for the most in the record book. It was the fifth longest punt return in Bulldog history and Livas career long. It was also the first punt return for a touchdown allowed by Navy since Aug. 30, However, it would be the final offensive fireworks of the day for Tech which recorded only 167 total yards on the day, only 51 coming in the second half. Jenkins finished the game 18-of-29 for 156 yards and one interception. Defensively, Antonio Baker recorded a game-high 12 tackles for LA Tech. Att.: 21,263 Hawai i 6 Louisiana Tech 27 RUSTON, La. - Ross Jenkins passed for a career-high 357 yards and two scores to lead Louisiana Tech to a win over Nicholls State before 19,400 fans at Joe Aillet Stadium Saturday night. The Bulldogs (1-2) blew open a close game by scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter as Tech improved to 4-0 all-time against the Colonels (1-2). After struggling offensively in the second half of the first two games of the year, Louisiana Tech erupted by scoring five touchdowns over the final 30 minutes of action, with all five coming on consecutive possessions. Jenkins ended the night completing 21-of-30 passes for 357 yards and two scores without throwing an interception. It marked the first 300-plus yard passing game by a Bulldog quarterback since Zac Champion threw for 305 yards in a win over North Texas in Tech s defense forced four turnovers on the night, including an interception by Antonio Baker in the third quarter. It was Baker s ninth interception of his career, moving him into a tie for ninth place in the Bulldog record books. Tyrone Duplessis led all running backs with 71 yards rushing on eight carries while D.J. Morrow tallied 49 yards on eight carries and one touchdown. Livas and Morris led Tech with 85 yards receiving on four catches each while tight end Dustin Mitchell added four receptions for 53 yards. Tech totaled 558 yards of total offense compared to 271 yards by Nicholls State. RUSTON, La. - The game was promoted as a Red Out. Most of the experts expected an offensive shoot out. But in the end, Louisiana Tech turned the lights out as it pulled away in the second half for a 27-6 win over Hawaii before 21,260 fans at Joe Aillet Stadium Wednesday night. Tech (2-2, 1-0 WAC) used a tenacious defensive effort in the victory as the Bulldogs recorded seven sacks, held the nation s top rated passing attack to only 308 yards and held Hawaii without a touchdown for the first time in 63 games. Bulldog running back Daniel Porter broke out of an early season slump and rushed for 160 yards and two scores as he led a Tech ground game that amassed 352 yards and averaged more than 6.0 yards per carry. Freshman tailback Tyrone Duplessis added a career-high 75 yards in the win. However, the story of the night was the Bulldog defense. Hawaii (2-2, 0-1 WAC) entered the contest averaging 32.0 points and yards per game, but the Warriors never got a rhythm offensively thanks to the effort of the Tech defensive unit. Hawaii managed only two Scott Enos first half field goals as the Bulldog defense came up with a couple of big plays inside their own five-yard line. Defensively, Tech was led by Tank Calais (8 tackles), Antonio Baker (7 tackles, 1 FF) and D Anthony Smith (3 tackles, 2 sacks). The Bulldogs outgained Hawaii 449 to 301 and held Hawaii to negative seven yards rushing, the first time Tech has held an opponent to negative rushing yards since Score by Quarters Total Records Nicholls State (1-2) Louisiana Tech (1-2) Scoring Summary First Quarter TECH 12:03 Nelson,Matt 24 yd field goal : NICH 09:20 Schexnayder, Ro 48 yd field goal : Second Quarter TECH 14:55 Porter,Daniel 2 yd run (Nelson,Matt kick) : TECH 01:19 Nelson,Matt 44 yd field goal : Third Quarter TECH 13:57 Morrow,D.J. 9 yd run (Nelson,Matt kick) : TECH 12:17 Young,Deon 32 yd interception return (Nelson,Matt kick) TECH 04:47 Morris,Dennis 37 yd pass from Jenkins,Ross (Nelson,Matt kick) : Fourth Quarter TECH 14:24 Tuminello,H. 6 yd pass from Jenkins,Ross (Nelson,Matt kick) : NICH 10:47 Witt, Jacob 24 yd run (Schexnayder, Ro kick) : TECH 08:27 Cameron,Colby 1 yd run (Nelson,Matt kick) : NICH 03:50 Schexnayder, Ro 42 yd field goal 4-4 1: Score by Quarters Total Records Hawai i (1-3, 0-1 WAC) Louisiana Tech (2-2, 1-0 WAC) Scoring Summary First Quarter UH 06:32 Enos,S. 36 yd field goal : TECH 02:39 Porter,Daniel 3 yd run (Nelson,Matt kick) : Second Quarter TECH 05:39 Nelson,Matt 28 yd field goal : UH 00:08 Enos,S. 18 yd field goal : Third Quarter TECH 12:02 Porter,Daniel 1 yd run (Nelson,Matt kick) : TECH 02:22 Compton,Myke 6 yd run (Nelson,Matt kick) : Fourth Quarter TECH 12:05 Nelson,Matt 26 yd field goal : NSU TECH FIRST DOWNS RUSHES-YARDS (NET) PASSING YDS (NET) Passes Att-Comp-Int TOTAL OFF. Att.: 20,773 New Mexico State 7 Louisiana Tech 45 RENO, Nev. - Colin Kaepernick threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more scores to lead Nevada to a win over Louisiana Tech Friday night at Mackay Stadium. For the third time in their three losses this year, the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1 WAC) scored a touchdown on their opening possession of the game as senior running back Daniel Porter scored on a 15-yard run with 14:16 to play in the first quarter. Porter s touchdown was set up after Phillip Livas returned the opening kickoff 84 yards to the Nevada 15-yard line. The score was Porter s 22nd of his career and one of the few bright spots for the Bulldogs. Porter moved into seventh place in the Tech record books in rushing yards, passing Garlon Powell. Porter ended the game with 99 yards and two scores on 11 carries. The win marked the fifth straight victory by Nevada over Louisiana Tech as the Wolf Pack increased their series lead to 6-4. It was also the 200th career win for Wolf Pack Hall of Fame coach Chris Ault. Nevada racked up 511 yards of offense, including 345 yards on the ground led by Vai Taua s 107 yards, Kaepernick s 89 yards and Luke Lippincott s 57 yards. Kaepernick also completed 15-of-21 passes for 166 yards and three scores. LA Tech managed 256 yards of total offense. In addition to Porter s night, Myke Compton rushed for 48 yards on 11 carries. Jenkins struggled, completing only 8-of-17 passes for 129 yards and one interception. RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech quarterback Ross Jenkins tossed three touchdowns and Daniel Porter recorded a 100-yard rushing day as the Bulldogs defeated New Mexico State 45-7 before a homecoming crowd of 20,773 fans at Joe Aillet Stadium Saturday afternoon. While the LA Tech offense was clicking on all cylinders, the Bulldogs defense was stifling holding New Mexico State (3-4, 1-2 WAC) to 142 total yards of offense and zero offensive touchdowns - the Aggies lone score came on a 38-yard fumble return late in the game. One week after struggling in a lopsided loss at Nevada, head coach Derek Dooley s team got off to a fast start and never looked back in winning for the third time in three tries at home this season. Jenkins, who was under heavy criticism during the week for the Bulldogs offensive struggles in the loss to Nevada, completed 11-of-19 passes for 204 yards and three scores before departing the game with just over three minutes to play in the third quarter. His main target throughout the contest was senior tight end Dennis Morris, who finished with careerhighs in receptions (6), yards (126) and touchdowns (2). For the day, Tech totaled 540 yards of total offense yards on the ground and 225 through the air - and 30 first downs while holding the Aggies to only 142 yards and six first downs. Dominique Faust led Tech with six tackles, including a career-high 1.5 sacks, while Adrien Cole, Antonio Baker, Kwame Jordan and Tank Calais each added five tackles. Calais and Paige added interceptions while Deon Young recorded his first career fumble recovery. Freshman punter Cade Glasgow averaged 45.4 yards per punt, including a career-long 67 yard punt late in the second quarter - the fifth longest punt in Bulldog history. True freshman Chad Boyd and sophomore Adrien Cole led the Tech defense with 10 tackles each while Cole also recorded his first career sack. Tech (3-4, 2-2 WAC) fell for the fourth time in four road games this season although unlike the first three road losses, this game came down to the final possession. Trailing 23-7 after three quarter, the Bulldogs scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to make it a one possession game. Trailing with 4:01 to play, the Bulldogs took over possession on its own 16-yard line following a Utah State punt. After two first downs moved the football to the Tech 45-yard line, Tech found itself looking at a third down and nine when Jenkins hit a wide open Dustin Mitchell on an out route. However, after making the catch, Mitchell tripped and fell to the turf at midfield, setting up a fourth down and five play. Jenkins dropped back and under the Aggies all out blitz, fired a pass downfield that was off the fingertips of intended receiver Adrian Linwood as Utah State took over and ran out the clock. With a 10-0 deficit, Phillip Livas fielded the ball five yards deep in the endzone, headed straight up field, broke the initial line of Utah State defenders cut back towards the middle of the field and outraced four Aggie defenders for a 100-yard touchdown return. Matt Nelson s extra point made the score 10-7 Utah State. The 100-yard return tied the school record with five other Bulldog players, the last being Patrick Jackson against Fresno State in It was also Livas sixth return (3 kickoffs, 3 punts) for a touchdown in his career, breaking the old record of five set by Larry Anderson in the 1970s. Facing a third and goal from the Aggies 20-yard line, Jenkins hit a wide open Dennis Morris down the right hash mark for the score, closing the gap to with 6:15 to play. On the tying two-point conversion attempt, Jenkins overthrew Stuart in the back of the endzone as the Aggies held onto a two-point lead, setting up the final few minutes of the game. Jenkins ended the game completing 17-of-26 passes for 155 yards with two scores and one interception, although 121 of the yards came in the final quarter when the Bulldogs scored two touchdowns to make a game of it. After being outgained 329 to 108 through the first three quarters, Tech outgained Utah State in the fourth and final quarter. Stuart ( TD) and Cruz Williams (3-31) led all Tech receivers while Daniel Porter led the Bulldog rushing attack with 68 yards on 18 carries. MOSCOW, Idaho - Louisiana Tech true freshman Matt Nelson s 56-yard field goal attempt on the last play of the game was wide right as Idaho defeated the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in Western Athletic Conference action at the Kibbie Dome. After Idaho took the one-point lead on a two-yard run by Vandal running back De Maundray Woolridge with 52 seconds to play, redshirt freshman quarterback Colby Cameron led the Bulldogs 36-yards to set up the game-winning attempt. Tech (3-5, 2-3 WAC) lost for the fifth time in five road games while Idaho (7-2, 4-1) kept its impressive season intact. The Vandals led for only 2 minutes and 51 seconds of the 60-minute game but ended the game with the one-point victory. The Bulldogs almost came away with the victory despite the fact that at least eight players listed on the two-deep either missed the entire game or a large portion of it due to injury. After Idaho opened the game with a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Tech responded by scoring 21 straight in the first quarter. Jenkins ended the game completing 17-of-30 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns while Cameron was 10-for-16 for 110 yards and no scores. Tech outgained Idaho 547 to 462 in total offense, including 329 yards through the air and 218 yards on the ground. Livas led Tech on the ground with 69 yards while Porter added 52, and DJ Morrow 49. Williams led all Tech receivers with four receptions for 82 yards and two scores. RP Stuart added a career-high six receptions for 73 yards. 28 Game 9 Nov. 6, 2009 Joe Aillet Stadium Ruston, La. Att.: 23,240 #5 Boise State 45 Louisiana Tech 35 Game Recaps RUSTON, La. - Kellen Moore passed for 354 yards and three touchdowns to give fifth-ranked Boise State a win over Louisiana Tech before 23,240 fans at Joe Aillet Stadium Friday night. Moore s 12-yard touchdown to Austin Pettis with 7:41 to play in the game gave the Broncos some breathing room as LA Tech had cut a 20-point halftime deficit down to after a pair of third quarter scores and a five-yard touchdown from Ross Jenkins to Dennis Morris with 14:07 to play in the game. Boise State (9-0, 4-0 WAC) sealed the win on a Jeremy Avery 44-yard touchdown run that gave the Broncos a lead with 4:52 to play after LA Tech failed to convert a fourth and six play with just over five minutes to play in the game. The first half was anything but a fight as Boise State held the Bulldogs to a mere 64 yards of total offense, with 68 of that coming on a seven-play scoring drive on the second possession of the game. Daniel Porter capped the drive with a oneyard run at the 8:14 mark, giving LA Tech an early 7-3 lead. However, the Bulldogs managed zero first downs and had seven three-and-outs on their other first half possessions while Boise State racked up 27 points and 219 yards. The Broncos recorded touchdowns on a two-yard pass to Richie Brockel, a 2-yard run by Doug Martin and a 40-yard pass to Titus Young as well as a 34-yard Kyle Brotzman field goal - his second of the opening half as Boise State led 27-7 at intermission. Boise State appeared ready to put the game away on their opening drive of the third quarter when Moore made an ill-advised pass under heavy pressure from D Anthony Smith that was plucked out of the air by Tech cornerback Josh Victorian and returned 75-yards down the Bulldog sideline for a score, cutting the deficit to For Tech, Jenkins completed 10-of-19 passes for 114 yards, one score and one interception while rushing for 19 yards and one score. Porter led Tech on the ground with 92 yards on 24 carries while Morris led the Bulldog receivers with 78 yards and one score on five carries. Defensively, freshman CJ Broades recorded a career-high 10 tackles while Victorian added nine and Deon Young and Tank Calais each tallied eight. The Bulldogs played the majority of the game without senior safety Antonio Baker, who suffered an injury on the first possession of the game.
