1 1 YOUNGBLOODS LIONS BASKETBALL CLUB SEASON 2016/17 Juniors: Under 18, 16, 14, 12 s & u11 s Males & Females Senior Men s & Women PLAYERS INFORMATION 1 BOOKLET
2 2 Dear YOUNGBLOOD LIONS players, GREETINGS! I hope you are looking forward to competing for the Youngblood s Lions Basketball Club this coming season? It is always an honour to represent your club at any level and I know that everyone will make the effort to fulfil the commitment it takes to be a YOUNGBLOOD LIONS Player. We have a simple philosophy to the game of Basketball. DEFENCE, REBOUNDS & BASIC FUNDEMENTALS will win games. Out of DEFENCE comes easy OFFENCE. We will play HARD & SHOOT TRUE. If the shot is not there, create an easy opportunity by passing. Running the Offence is something to do if the Defence are back in place under the basket. You must learn to understand the game. What is your job?? Understand what is a good and a bad decision. We must come together in harmony, we must respect everyone in the club (EVERYONE has a job that benefits you) Coach Caroline Charles 2
3 3 ABOUT US YOUNGBLOODS LIONS is a friendly club; We pride ourselves on the high standards that our players achieve. We cater for junior players in and around the borough. We also have senior men and women s, both teams playing in the local league. Youngblood's Lions are proud! That we welcome ANY level of player and we train them to be the best that they can be. We are not an elite club. You train, You play. Our club is always growing; we welcome all players. Abled bodied and players with an impairment usually play alongside with their fellow team members, according to their impairment. Youngblood's Lions play at a National and local level and guarantee matches/games for all players that wish to play at whatever level. We also have players in the regional teams (London) & national (England) squads. The club also travels abroad for international tournaments as well as welcoming visitors from abroad to our home court. Please note that all members should have a CLUB SWEATSHIRT, This cost is covered in your membership. We also think that all Ballers should have their own BALL. Players should purchase their own ball and mark it clearly. U14 girls & U11 s size 5 Ball U14 boys & U18, U16 girls size 6 Ball U16, U18 boys size 7 Ball The club welcomes volunteers and supports training for those wishing to help the club in any way. 13 13 AGGRESSIVENESS We will dominate our opponents. We will constantly attack, harass the ball. We will deny our man the lane and the pass. We will contest every dribble, every shot, and every rebound. We will box-out, take the charge, and DIVE on the floor for loose balls. 2. CONDITION To maintain the intensity of work that your coaches will require you to be in good condition. You must work beyond your fitness level if you are to obtain physical fitness. You also need to be mentally fit one does not go without the other on the basketball court. 3. DETERMINATION This state of mind. How you train is how you play. YOUNGBLOODS will play 100% Basketball, winning or losing to the final whistle. 4. PRIDE To experience pride all of the above done to maximum effort will spread through the team and everyone will share the enjoyment of the all out team effort. However pride will never be felt by a poorly disciplined team that has selfish individuals who play carelessly and for themselves. 13
