Staff Needs Steve Lavin St. Johns University St. John s Basketball - How do your players look under duress and stress ---- knowing this helps with late game preparation and pressure situations - The rebound is like a period in a sentence ends the defensive possession - You got to be yourself as a coach, but also be able to adopt and learn from other coaches - You need to know your players as well as your opponents players - During practice, coach both sides of the ball ---- coach on offense, coach on defense - Drills are not great drills unless they are competitive and have teaching points Loyalty Work Ethic Talent Loyalty All your coaches need to be on board, especially in the public eye Work Ethic All your coaches need to put in the time and the effort Talent having the knowledge and the ability - Head coaches need to let their assistants be involved in all aspects of coaching o Scouting o Individual development o X and O o Player issues Important Statistics to Value (This is going to be dependent on your style of play). 6 Steve Lavin - St. John's pg. Steve Lavin 60 Point Game Drill Purpose - Focus on end of game offense and defense topics - Sometimes make a bad call on purpose to see how your players will handle the conflict Dribble to Start Drill Rules - No dribbling other than to start the possession by dribbling across half court - Offense focuses on passing, cutting, spacing, and ball security - Defense focuses ball denial, strong ball pressure - Enforce 5 second count on the ball - If the defense gets a stop, they become offense - st team to 60 points wins Scoring + point per clean pass and catch +5 points per made basket +5 points per defensive foul 5 x x5 x4 4 - Offensive players need to have high and wide spacing to keep lanes open for back cuts and basketcuts - Wide spacing also makes the defense have to defend more of the floor - Try to maintain a guard front - Wings should be above the free throw line extended x 5 x5 x x x4 4 - When making a pass, it is important that the receiver gives a target hand for the passer - The passer should pass the ball to the target hand - Once the pass is made, the person who passed the ball should basket cut (slow to quick) - As the basket cut takes place, the other offensive players fill spots ( guard front, high wings)
Steve Lavin - St. John's pg. Steve Lavin 60 Point Game x 5 x5 - When defenders try to deny passing lanes, the player ( in this example) gives a high target hand, and then plants and goes back door - If does not get the pass from, he clears out - Again, other players fill the open spots x x4 4 x - Continue this type of play until a team reaches 60 points using the scoring system earlier described 5 x5 x Shallow Cut x4 4 Adjustments. Allow players to use or dribbles and shallow cuts. Add screening actions

Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. Post Feeds into Ball Screen Actions FGCU Ball Screen Offense Overview In order to not have to reset the offense when the ball is passed out of the post, ball screen rules are used to keep the offense attacking - Anytime a post gets an offensive rebound and does not put the shot up, he will kick the ball out to a guard and then follow his pass to set a ball screen - Need to force bad closeouts - Make the offense make plays, not score off of their plays - Make a video playbook of all your plays for players to watch - If a team switches big/little screens, put the mismatch post on the block and make the other post a permanent ball screener
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. 4 Post Feeds into Ball Screen Actions Post Entry Kick Out Side 5 Slip 4 Duck-in On a post entry, the high post needs to dive to the block - In order to not have to reset the offense when the ball is passed out of the post, ball screen rules are used to keep the offense attacking - Anytime a post gets an offensive rebound and does not put the shot up, he will kick the ball out to a guard and then follow his pass to set a ball screen - If the post passes out to the side (), he chases the pass to set a screen for - After 5 sets the ball screen on the side, he will always down screen for the corner - As drives the ball across the lane line, 4 will duck-in
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. 5 Post Feeds into Ball Screen Actions Post Entry Kick Out Single Side x4 5 x5 4 - On a post entry, the high post needs to dive to the block - If the ball is passed out to the single side, the post follows his pass and sets a "butt" screen for - If drives the middle, 5 pops and 4 ducks-in Reads - If there is a hard hedge by X5 and X4 is defending 4 on the post, needs to throw the ball UP for 5 4 x4 5 x5 Reads - If there is a hard hedge by X5 and X4 is defending 5 on the roll, needs to look to 4 on the duck-in
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. 6 Ball Screen Build Up Drills Table of Contents. Butt Screen and Duck In 7. Down and Slip 8. Butt Screen / Pop into Duck In 9.4 Continuous Pick and Pop 0.5 Post Feed Drill.6 Ball Screen / Down Screen Drill

Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. Ball Screen Build Up Drills Ball Screen / Down Screen Drill 4 M - Ball is entered into the post and then the post kicks the ball back out to the wing - Post follows pass and sets a butt screen - Because it is the "" side, the post immediately down screens and slips - hits the slip man, manager hits the corner man coming off of the down screen
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. Entries Table of Contents. Stack Single Side Entry 4. Stagger 5. Weave with a 4-5 Screen 6
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. 4 Entries Stack Single Side Entry Entry starts with small stacks - The guards pop to the wing - After the wing entry, PG clears to the opposite corner to create the single side - On the catch, the ball side post comes up to set a butt screen for to drive the ball to the lane - 4 pops short corner and 5 ducks-in
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. 5 Entries Stagger Ball gets passed to 4 and then swung to at the wing - 4 follows his pass to ball screen for at the wing - 5 and 4 then stagger screen for to pop to the wing
Joe Dooley - Ball Screen Offense pg. 6 Entries Weave with a 4-5 Screen Dribble weave to get the defense to shift - Ball comes back to the opposite wing while 4 screens for 5 to set a wing ball screen
