2 The Matchup ABOUT THE ARENA CFE Arena (9,500) Gemini Boulevard N. Orlando, FL The CFE Federal Credit Union Arena (CFE Arena) (formerly known as the UCF Arena) is a sports and entertainment arena located in Orlando, Florida on the main campus of The University of Central Florida. It was constructed beginning in 2006 as a replacement for the Original UCF Arena, and as a part of Knights Plaza. The Arena is home to the Knights men s and women s basketball teams, and is now home to the Orlando Predators beginning with the 2014 season IN REVIEW 2013 was a season of streaks for the Jacksonville Sharks. The team began the season on fire, sprinting to a 6-0 start that left the Sharks as the last remaining unbeaten team in the Arena Football League. That six-win stretch included three straight road victories to open the year, back-to-back dominating defensive performances against New Orleans and Iowa, and a road win in Philadelphia that avenged last year s conference championship game. But after that hot start, the Jacksonville offense went through a rough patch in the middle of the season. After scoring 60 or more points in each of the team s first four games, the Sharks did not cross the 60-point mark again until Week 11 against Pittsburgh. In the meantime, the team dropped three consecutive games against National Conference opponents - falling at home to the defending champion Arizona Rattlers, on the road at San Antonio and back home against San Jose. Sitting at 6-3, and still in first place, the Sharks got back on the winning track in Week 10 at Orlando. Facing former Jacksonville quarterback Aaron Garcia for the first time, the Sharks emerged with a win to improve to 7-3. The team followed that up with its first dominating offensive performance in some time, ripping off 70 points against Pittsburgh in Week 11. With two straight wins in hand, the Sharks headed out west for a two-week road trip against Spokane and Utah. The team got off to a slow start against the Shock, and to make matters worse, starting quarterback Bernard Morris went down with an injury in what was a Spokane victory. Forced to scramble at the quarterback position, the Sharks turned to veteran Kyle Rowley, who had won an ArenaBowl with Spokane. Rowley joined the team out west and immediately was inserted into the starting lineup, nearly leading the team to victory against Utah that week. Ultimately, however, the Blaze came out on top with a win that dropped the Sharks to 8-5. Since that game in Utah, the Sharks have not left the comforts of home, playing back-to-back home games before the bye week. In Week 14, the Sharks clinched a postseason berth with a dramatic victory over the Cleveland Gladiators. Micheaux Robinson scored the final Jacksonville touchdown with a pick-six, then Terrance Smith recovered a Gladiator onside kick to seal the result. That win clinched IF THE SHARKS WIN... ABOUT THE PREDATORS The Predators are the chief rival to the Jacksonville Sharks, as the in-state rivals split two first-round playoff matchups over the Sharks first two years of existence. Heading into this season, the Predators look to improve upon a 7-11 finish, though Orlando did qualify for the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the American Conference. Appearing in seven ArenaBowls, the Predators have two AFL titles (1998, 2000). Orlando enters 2013 with a lifetime record of in the regular season (23-16 post-season record). the Sharks fourth straight playoff berth. Seven days later, Garcia and the Predators made a return trip to Sea Best Field. R.J. Archer got the start at quarterback, and went 16-of-20 with three touchdowns before leaving late in the first half with an ankle injury (Archer has since been put on injured reserve). Rowley came on in relief and accounted for five total touchdowns. The Predators kept the game close, but Smith swung momentum with two fourth-quarter interceptions, including one on the final play, to lock up a Jacksonville win. After clinching the team s fourth South Division title during the bye week, the Sharks returned to the field on July 13 for a rematch with the Spokane Shock. Though the game remained close into the second quarter, the Shock pulled away with backto-back interception returns for touchdowns, eventually winning by a count. The Sharks righted the ship in Week 18, as Bernard Morris accounted for seven touchdowns and the team s front four racked up six sacks in a victory over the New Orleans VooDoo. Heading into the regular-season finale, the Sharks needed a win over the Tampa Bay Storm combined with a Philadelphia Soul loss to San Antonio to clinch the No. 1 seed. The Sharks did their part with a victory, then watched as the Talons upset the Soul, vaulting Jacksonville to the top spot in the American Conference entering the postseason. The Sharks opened the playoffs with a come-from behind victory over the Tampa Bay Storm. Jacksonville erased a deficit, scoring 36 fourth-quarter points to emerge with a win. For the second consecutive year, the Sharks took on the Philadelphia Soul in the American Conference Championship Game. Though this year s conference title came was on the Sharks home turf, Jacksonville again fell to the Soul, HEAD TO HEAD They would improve to 8-1 all-time against the Predators in the regular season. They would win their season opener for a third consecutive year and improve to 4-1 all-time in season-opening contests. The Sharks hold a 7-1 edge against the Predators in the alltime series. Jacksonville has swept Orlando in each of the last three regular-season series and has not lost to the Predators at all since the first round of the 2010 playoffs. Including the postseason, the Sharks have piled up seven consecutive victories against this in-state divisional rival. QUICK HITS -This marks the fifth time in as many years that the Sharks have opened the season on the road. Jacksonville has never played its first game of the season at home. -The Sharks opening week roster features 15 players who suited up for the team during the 2013 season. In addition, the Sharks have three players (K Fabrizio Scaccia, DL Darnell Carter, DL Reggie Paramoure) with previous AFL experience with other teams. -The Sharks have four players who played high school football in Northeast Florida, as Jeron Harvey (Jackson), Cornelius Lewis (Raines), Xavier Brewer (Bartram Trail) and Mardy Gilyard (Flagler Palm Coast) are local products. DID YOU KNOW? Now in their fifth season as a franchise, the Sharks have only lost one regular-season game against each of their current divisional opponents. Jacksonville is 5-1 all-time against New Orleans and sports identical 7-1 marks against each of Tampa Bay and Orlando. In addition, the Sharks are 3-1 against divisional foes in the postseason, defeating both Orlando and Georgia* en route to their ArenaBowl XXIV title. *Georgia Force not currently active in the AFL

A coach with a longtime track record of success, Moss has brought his various teams to the postseason 24 times and has reached the playoffs every year since 1992, a string of 22 consecutive postseason births. 19 of those 24 teams have reached the final four, with 12 making it to their respective league s championship game. Moss has won four Arena championships, in 1990, 1998, 2000 and Moss began his Arena Football League career with the Chicago Bruisers in Two years later, he helped lead the Detroit Drive to the title in He then spent 12 years with the Orlando Predators beginning in their inaugural 1991 season. Before joining the Sharks, Moss worked with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, earning AF2 Coach of the Year honors in In addition to his extensive experience coaching in the AFL and AF2, Moss also served as the Tight Ends Coach and Training Camp Coordinator of the XFL s Orlando Rage. He currently lives in Central Florida with his wife Cindy and their son Jacob. vs. ORLANDO Coach Moss has led the Sharks to a 7-1 mark in regular season matchups against the Orlando Predators. After splitting the season series in 2010, Jacksonville has swept the Predators in each of the past three seasons. In addition, Moss has split two postseason games against Orlando, bringing his overall mark to 8-2 in games against this in-state division rival. ORLANDO PREDATORS HEAD COACH ROB KEEFE Defined by his energy, excitement, and overall passion for the game, Rob Keefe is well known for his hands-on approach to coaching. With four championship titles to his credit, Keefe brings a tradition of winning to the Orlando Predators. Rob Keefe arrives in Orlando after serving as the Defensive Coordinator of the Utah during the past two seasons. He arrived in Utah midway through the 2012 season and engineered a dramatic turnaround on that side of the ball. After allowing an average of 64 points over the first 10 games of the season, Utah allowed just over 51 points per contest under Keefe. In the opening round of the 2012 playoffs, the change in culture was loudly put on display as the Blaze defense surrendered a mere 34 points in a victory over the top-seeded San Antonio Talons. Keefe began his coaching career in 2009, joining the Spokane Shock as the secondary coach. The Shock boasted the af2 s topranked scoring defense that season, allowing just 37.6 points per game. Keefe s secondary surrendered the fifth-lowest number of passing yards per game (231.6) and registered the second-highest interception total in the league (34). The season culminated in an ArenaCup Championship title. Keefe was promoted to Head Coach of the Shock when the organization joined the Arena Football League in Under Keefe s guidance, Spokane finished with the best record in the AFL (13-3 regular season) while producing the League s fourth-ranked scoring defense (52.7 ppg). Keefe became the youngest coach in AFL history to win a championship, as the Shock defeated the Tampa Bay Storm in ArenaBowl XXIII. vs. JACKSONVILLE As a Head Coach, Keefe holds a mark of 1-2 all-time against the Sharks, as his Spokane Shock team played Jacksonville twice in Each team won their home game in that season series. The Sharks then defeated Keefe s Shock team in their lone matchup during the 2011 season. 8 Facts and Figures SHARK BITES Breaking Down The Lineup: The Sharks broke camp with a roster full of AFL veterans. Of the 24 players on Jacksonville s initial lineup, 18 have at least one year of AFL experience. 15 of those players suited up for the Sharks in 2013, while the three new veterans bring a total of seven years of AFL experience. In addition, the active roster is rounded out by six rookies, while two other rookies begin the season on Injured Reserve. Defense Intact: The Sharks bring back several key contributors to the defense this season. Up front, defensive linemen Jerry Turner (All-Arena Second Team) and Rashaad Duncan (6.5 sacks as a rookie) are back in the fold along with Mac linebacker Aaron Robbins (All-Arena Second Team). In the secondary, each of the Sharks three starting defensive backs return in 2014, as Terrance Smith (2013 First-Team All-Arena), Micheaux Robinson (2010 Second-Team All-Arena, 2011 First- Team All-Arena) and Tracy Belton (2012 First-Team All-Arena) are set for their fourth, fifth and second respective seasons in Jacksonville. While he has transitioned from his playing career, fellow defensive mainstay Bill Alford remains with the Sharks as he enters his first year as the team s Defensive Backs Coach. Franchise Cornerstones: When they step on the field this week, defensive back Micheaux Robinson and wide receiver Jeron Harvey will officially begin their fifth seasons as a member of the Jacksonville Sharks. As two of the four players to suit up for the Sharks in each of the team s first four seasons, Harvey and Robinson will be counted on to lead the team s receiving corps and secondary, respectively. Not Your Average Rookie: Wide receiver Mardy Gilyard is an AFL rookie, as he has yet to see action in an arena football game. But that distinction belies Gilyard s true level of football experience. Selected by the St. Louis Rams in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the former University of Cincinnati standout played in the NFL for four seasons before making the move to the indoor game. Local Flair: The Sharks opening-week roster boasts four players with local ties. Two of those names are familiar, as wide receiver Jeron Harvey (Jackson HS) and offensive lineman Cornelius Lewis (Raines HS) are back in the fold for Joining Harvey and Lewis are two other players who played high school football just outside Duval county, as defensive back Xavier Brewer is a Bartram Trail alum, while wide receiver Mardy Gilyard attended Flagler Palm Coast.
