Gary Andersen, Wisconsin Head Football Coach and Former Utah State Head Football Coach: Matt will be a great leader for Utah State football moving forward. Being on our staff for the last two years, he is prepared and will continue to implement the same philosophies with his own style. Chuckie Keeton, Utah State Junior Quarterback: I m very excited for him and happy for what he has accomplished, moving up the coaching ranks. I anticipate Coach Wells doing great things for Utah State University and this community. I am definitely happy about him becoming head coach after spending my first two years in college working with him as my position coach. We return a lot of players on both sides of the ball and it is going to be fun to watch how this team progresses under his leadership. Steve Kragthorpe, LSU Quarterbacks Coach - Former Tulsa and Louisville Head Football Coach: This is a home run hire for Utah State. Matt was an integral part of our turnaround at the University of Tulsa, and did a tremendous job for me not only there, but at the University of Louisville as well. Utah State is not only hiring a great coach, but a great man and a true Aggie. He will do a tremendous job as the head football coach at Utah State and will continue the great tradition of football in Cache Valley. Ken Niumatalolo, Navy Head Football Coach: Utah State could not have hired a more qualified head coach to lead their program than Matt Wells. Matt is an Aggie to the core. From an X s and O s standpoint, Matt is an exceptional football coach, but more importantly, he is a family man of the highest character.

Five plays later, Utah scored another touchdown for a Utah lead with 1:29 to go in the frame. On its next drive that overlapped the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth, Utah State drove deep into Utes territory before the drive slowed, and Diaz drilled a 24-yard field goal to give USU a lead with 10:39 remaining. Utah took the kickoff and marched down the field, capping the drive with a 19-yard field goal with 6:38 for the Utes lead and the Aggies couldn t counter. USU used its timeouts to hold the Utah drive, but the Utes kicked a 38-yard field goal with 19 seconds left for a lead. USU had a last chance, but Keeton s heave to the end zone fell to the turf incomplete as time expired. Senior linebacker Jake Doughty (51) recorded 16 tackles against the Utes. September 9,
