UAlbany and Western Michigan met for the first time in school history last season, with the Great Danes winning the game in Kalamazoo. UALBANY WINS THE ALBANY CUP FOR THE FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR The Great Danes dominated cross-town rival Siena on Friday at the Times Union Center 69-42, defeating the Saints for the fourth consecutive season and taking home the Albany Cup once again. UAlbany did not allow a basket in the fi rst 12 minutes of play, starting the game on a 13-0 run. The team held Siena to shoot 26.7% in the game, while going 46.3% from the fi eld itself, including making six of its fi rst eight baskets from beyond the arc. Last season, the Great Danes went an unblemished 16-0 in conference play and fi nished 27-4, the best record in UAlbany s DI history. The past two years, the team has won 30 of its 32 league games, including winning all 16 road games. UAlbany will look to be the fi rst America East school to three-peat in the conference since Maine won four straight conference championships from to CRAIG, RICHARDS EARN PRESEASON ALL-AE Megan Craig and Shereesha Richards were selected to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team. UAlbany stood alone with the most preseason allconference members. Craig earned Third Team all-conference honors last season, while Richards was an America East Co-Rookie of the Year last year. The rest of the team includes Amber Bepko of Hartford, Kelsey Hogan of New Hampshire and Sabre Proctor of Stony Brook. DEPENDING ON THE YOUNG ONES UAlbany will look to a class of six freshmen to fi ll in for a talented senior class that graduated last season. These freshman will look to replace the production of Ebone Henry, the program s all-time leading scorer, the America East Player of the Year and a three-time conference Defensive Player of the Year, Julie Forster, the all-time leading rebounder at UAlbany and three-time All-America East forward, Lindsey Lowrie, a all-conference player who ranks fi fth all-time in three-point shooting at UAlbany, and Keyana Williams, a four-year 6-2 forward who shot 40% in her career. Together, this class made up of 54% of points, 45% of rebounds and 51% of assists last year. The six UAlbany freshman hail from three different countries, including three from the United States, including a pair from the home state of New York, two from Canada and one from Nigeria. Last season, she was second in the league with a 54.9% shooting percentage, only behind teammate Shereesha Richards at 61.1%, making 139 of her 253 shots. She also fi nished sixth in the conference with 29 blocked shots, standing 10th in UAlbany history in blocked shots after just two years on the team. Only Pittsburgh s Marvadene Anderson, a 6-foot-11 freshman, is listed as a taller women s basketball player. TWO BEST SHOOTERS IN THE LEAGUE Last season, Shereesha Richards and Megan Craig were one and two in the America East in shooting percentage, earning the single season record for that category in UAlbany history. As a freshman, Richards made 121 of 198 fi eld goal attempts to shoot 61.1% from the fi eld, while teammate Craig shot 54.9% with 139 made baskets in 253 attempts. They both surpassed Rainny Lesane s school record, who shot 54% percent for UAlbany in the season. With these two leading the way, UAlbany shot a leaguebest 44%. Only one other player in the entire conference shot over 46% from the fi eld. TWO-TIME AE COACH OF THE YEAR In her fi rst three seasons, Coach Katie Abrahamson- Henderson has made her mark in the America East, earning the league s Coach of the Year award twice and coaching the team to its fi rst-ever America East titles in 2012 and In Coach Abrahamson-Henderson s tenure leading up to this season, the Great Danes have won 39 conference games, including a 30-2 league record the past two years. 4 UALBANY TO HOST AE TOURNAMENT For the second consecutive season, the University at Albany will host the America East Women s Basketball Tournament at SEFCU Arena. The quarterfi nals will be played on Friday, March 7th, followed by the semifi nals on Sunday, March 9th. Then on Monday, March 10th, the America East title game will be at SEFCU Arena and televised nationally on ESPNU. In addition, the men s AE Tournament quarterfi nals and semifi nals will also be at SEFCU Arena this season. UALBANY PREDICTED TO FINISH FIRST IN AMER- ICA EAST The two-time defending America East champion Great Danes have been picked to fi nish fi rst in the America East this season. Voted on by the league s head coaches, the Great Danes received eight out of nine fi rst-place votes for a maximum 64 possible points. Last year s league runner-up Hartford is predicted to fi nish second with 54 points. The rest of the teams in order of predicted fi nish is Stony Brook, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, UMBC, Binghamton and UMass Lowell. TEAM CAPTAINS CHOSEN By a unanimous vote from the players, Sarah Royals, Margarita Rosario and Shereesha Richards have been elected as UAlbany Women s Basketball team captains. Royals, the starting point guard last year, Richards, the conference Co-Rookie of the Year, and Rosario, a primary reserve guard, will lead the Great Danes. SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Coming off an season last year, Western Michigan won its season opener with a victory over Massachusetts on the road on Friday. The team built a 10-point lead in the fi rst half, holding off a late UMass comeback attempt to win. The Broncos are led by team captain sophomore Miracle Woods, a member of the All-MAC Freshman Team last year, who earned a double double of 19 points and 11 boards in the team s fi rst game, adding fi ve blocks. Junior forward Michelle O Brien led the team in rebounding on Friday with 17 boards, scoring nine points. SCORING STREAKS UAlbany s Preseason All-Conference players have scored in at least 27 consecutive games dating back to last season. Megan Craig netted points in the fi nal 30 games of the season and stands with 31 consecutive games with a score. Shereesha Richards was held without points in UAlbany s fourth contest of that season against Michigan State, since then she has scored in the last 28 games. In addition, Sarah Royals has dished out an assist in each of the past 33 games dating back to her freshman season, including the entirety of the the season.

5 FOUR UALBANY GAMES TO BE ON ESPN3 UAlbany will be featured four times on ESPN3 this season, including three home games at the SEFCU Arena. Each UAlbany-Hartford game, last season s America East title matchup, will be on ESPN3, scheduled for January 12th at Hartford and February 7th at UAlbany. ESPN3 will also broadcast the Purple Growl game against Vermont on February 1st plus Senior Day against Stony Brook on March 1st. The America East quarterfi nals and semifi nals will also be on ESPN3 at the SEFCU Arena. The conference title game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU on Monday, March 10th. ROYALS APPROACHING ASSISTANT ROYALTY Sarah Royals currently has 162 assists in her career, just 28 away from being 20th all-time in University at Albany history. The record at UAlbany is 375, set by Samantha Ginsberg from , while the D-I record is held by Kathryn Hemlock with 262 from Last season, Royals led the team with 115 assists, the seventh-highest season total in UAlbany history. It was the best season mark since Sarah Sweetland dished out 125 assists in the season. GLOBETROTTING TEAM The Great Danes women s basketball team feature players from three different continents, representing six different countries: the United States, Canada, Great Britain (British Virgin Islands in North America), Jamaica, Nigeria and New Zealand. Megan Craig is a member of the New Zealand National Team and competed in the FIBA World Championship Trials in August. From the USA s neighbor to the north comes freshmen Jessica Féquière from Montreal and Cassandra Edwards from Brampton, Ontario. Shereesha Richards grew up in Jamaica before playing high school basketball in New Jersey. From the British Virgin Islands, a principality of Great Britain, coming the team s only senior Tammy Phillip. Bose Aiyalogbe rounds out the class as a native of Lagos, Nigeria. The players from the United States represent a number of states up and down the East Coast, with just two from the home state of New York, freshmen Zakiya Saunders from Fort Drum and Imani Tate from the Bronx. Opposing teams shot just 33.2% against UAlbany last year, fi fth in DI. UAlbany held its opponents to 50 points or less in 19 of its 31 games last season. ALUM JULIE FORSTER PLAYING IN DENMARK Julie Forster, the all-time leading rebounder in UAlbany women s basketball history and former three-time all-conference forward, is playing overseas in Denmark with Stevnsgade BBK for her fi rst professional season. Through her fi rst fi ve games, Forster is averaging 20 points and 18 rebounds a game. The former three-time All-America East player and three-time leader in rebounding in the conference set the single season UAlbany record with 339 boards in the season, concluding her stellar career with 1,149 rebounds. RELIABLE COACHES UAlbany returns its entire coaching staff from its 27-4 season last year, the best season in school history. Assistant Coach Mary Grimes returns for her fourth season, while Kelly Komara and Tahnee Balerio are in their second year as assistant coaches. In addition, Director of Basketball Operations Brittany Hollingsworth and Graduate Assistant Manager Isoken Uzamere also are back for their second season. ROAD WARRIORS The Great Danes have not lost a conference road game in two years, winning all 16 America East games away from SEFCU Arena in that span. The last time UAlbany fell in a conference game on the road was on February 26th, 2011, when the Great Danes were defeated by UMBC in Baltimore. HOME SWEET HOME After UAlbany plays against Siena at the Times Union Center, the Great Danes will play four home games in a row, the fi rst four of 14 regular season games at the SEFCU Arena this season, not including the America East Tournament. The Great Danes will face three teams at home that played postseason ball in In non-conference play, UAlbany takes on MAAC champion Marist and NEC champion Quinnipiac, then later it takes on Hartford, which played in the NIT. MEGAN S BLOCK PARTY Megan Craig currently stands 10th all-time in blocked shots in UAlbany history with 56, earning 29 blocks last season. With 12 more she can tie Michele Davis for ninth on that list. The top mark of UAlbany all-time belongs to Gia Saunders, who blocked 151 shots in 116 games from

Opening the season with a furious scoring pace, the University at Albany women s basketball team jumped out to 13-0 lead Friday night at the Times Union Center and never looked back, overcoming crosscity rival Siena, Junior Sarah Royals matched her career-best with a game-high 21 points, and also career-marks with six rebounds and four steals, adding six assists. Classmate Margarita Rosario also had a career night, scoring 14 points. The reigning America East Rookie of the Year, Shereesha Richards opened the season with a doubledouble, logging 13 points and 12 rebounds, while also notching four steals. Coming off a conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, the Great Danes opened the season in top form with a sweltering 58.6 percent fi eld goal percentage in the fi rst half, as well as hitting 6-of-8 shots from behind the arc. Royals knocked down two and Rosario hit another to give the Great Danes a 13-0 head start at the 12:53 mark. Not only was UAlbany s offense lighting it up, but the defensive effort suffocated the Saints to a 17.2 fi eld goal percentage (5-29) in the opening stanza. Siena did not record a fi eld goal until the 7:52 mark, as Tehresa Coles layup made the score Picking up the intensity in the fi nal fi ve minutes of the fi rst half, the Great Danes used a 17-2 run, capped by another Royals three, to take a 30-point lead, with 1:17 remaining. UAlbany still went into the break with a commanding lead. Out of the locker room, Richards scored UAlbany s fi rst six points with two fi eld goals and two free throws, giving the Great Danes a 32-point lead with 17:41 remaining. With Brianna Logan s layup, Siena cut the margin to 22, 53-31, with 11:19 on the clock, but that would be as close as the Saints would get. UAlbany built their lead back up to as much as 28, 66-38, led by a trio of Rosario baskets and Royals pair of free throws with 3:18 remaining, and the Great Danes held onto their comfortable advantage through the remainder of regulation. Lowrie Scores 17 Points to Lead UAlbany to Win Over Western Michigan KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Lindsey Lowrie scored a gamehigh 17 points, on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the 3-point line to lead UAlbany to a win over Western Michigan in non-conference women s basketball action on Sunday afternoon at University Arena. Great Danes had a slow start to the game, getting down 10-4, with fi ve fouls called in the fi rst 6 minutes of play. UAlbany cut the score back to on two free throws by Tammy Phillip, but the Broncos continued to roll, getting two 3-pointers from Julia Henderson to open the game up and take a lead with 11:18 to play in the fi rst half. The Great Danes battled back behind Megan Craig, who scored fi ve of the next seven points, pulling the score back to with 8:57 on the clock. UAlbany continued to fi ght through the end of the fi rst half, as both Shereesha Richards and Sarah Royals went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to end the half, sending the teams to the locker rooms tied, UAlbany came out of the halftime break fi ring, taking a seven-point lead, 40-33, on a trey by Lindsey Lowrie with just under 16 minutes to play. Two good free throws from Ebone Henry gave the Great Danes their fi rst double-digit lead of the game, 44-33, with 14:33 on the clock. Western Michigan (1-2) attempted to rally, but UAlbany kept ahead by double-digits, getting a 3-pointer by Lowrie to keep a lead with just over eight minutes to play. The Broncos tried to rally, getting a layup by A.J. Johnson to cut the Western Michigan defi cit to eight, 56-48, but Lowrie nailed consecutive baskets - including one from long range - to put the Great Danes back ahead by 13, 48-61, with 4:21 on the clock. Royals helped UAlbany extend its lead to 15 with two free throws, while Phillip and Lowrie combined for fi ve straight points to give the Great Danes their biggest lead of the game, with 36 ticks to go. Western Michigan got a couple of baskets late to set the fi nal score, but the UAlbany defense held on for the 14-point victory. This win was a total team effort, said UAlbany head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, who has guided the Great Danes to a 2-1 record in the early season. We got in foul trouble early and had players like [Shereesha] Richards and [Keyana] Williams step up. I was proud of how well we came together for a strong second half. 11 Coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson 4th Year at UAlbany , America East Coach of the Year Katie Abrahamson-Henderson enters her fourth season at the helm of the Great Dane program after coaching the University at Albany to its best season in DI history, going 27-4 with a perfect 16-0 conference record and winning a second-straight America East championship. Abrahamson-Henderson, the 10th head coach in the UAlbany program s history, was previously the associate head coach at Indiana University. She also served as Missouri State University s head coach from , leading that program to three NCAA Tournament appearances. In her coaching career, she has helped four different teams reach the NCAA Tournament and six reach postseason play. Ebone Henry was named the America East Co-Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year with 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game, while Shereesha Richards was selected as the league s Co-Rookie of the Year with 10.2 points and 5.9 rebounds a game, shooting 61.1% off the bench. In addition, Julie Forster joined Henry on the All-Conference First Team, while Megan Craig and Lindsay Lowrie earned All-America East Third Team. After posting a record turnaround in her fi rst season with the Great Danes, Abrahamson-Henderson led UAlbany to its then-best record in Division I history in the , going overall. The Great Danes brought home their fi rstever America East Conference title, and represented the league in the NCAA Tournament. UAlbany visited defending National Champions Texas A&M, and held with the Aggies for most of the game, showing how far the program has come in a short period of time. Abrahamson-Henderson coached Ebone Henry to back-to-back America East Defensive Player of the Year honors. Henry was joined by Julie Forster on the All-Defensive Team, and both were All-Conference selections. Both Henry and Forster were named to the All-Conference Preseason Team, and the Great Danes were chosen to repeat as league champions, the fi rst time UAlbany has been picked fi rst in the preseason poll. Abrahamson-Henderson is also continuing a tradition of developing strong student-athletes, as Forster has earned a spot on two staright All-Academic Teams, and was named to the Capital One District I Academic All-America Team last season. At Missouri State, she guided that program to three Missouri Valley Conference tournament championships, two MVC regular-season titles and three NCAA berths. The Bears, who also won the 2005 WNIT championship, posted a record during her fi ve seasons. In addition, she coached a pair of MVC players of the year, 11 all-conference honorees, two of the program s all-time leading scorers, three players who went on to professional careers, and 13 MVC scholar-athletes. Abrahamson-Henderson and her husband, Michael, have two daughters, Savannah and Brooklyn. Michael also had a celebrated college basketball career and eventually played for the Harlem Globetrotters. He led Long Island-C.W. Post to a pair of NCAA Tournaments and scored 1,173 career points from

12 UAlbany Assistant Coaches Mary Grimes - 4th Season (Siena 03) Mary Grimes enters her fourth season as an assistant coach at the University at Albany. Grimes serves the team as a recruiting coordinator, compliance liaison and works directly with the development of guards. She also makes opponent scouting reports and assists with game preparation. Grimes worked directly with Ebone Henry, the 2013 America East Co-Player of the Year and a three-time all-conference guard. Kelly Komara - 2nd Season (Purdue 02) Kelly Komara enters her second season as an assistant coach at University at Albany. She works directly with the team s post players, oversees game scheduling and serves as the team s strength, conditioning and nutrition liasion.
