The 4 p.m. game at the Save Mart Center will be shown on ESPN3. The Runnin Rebel seniors took center stage in the win over Utah State as the trio of Tyrell Green, Christian Jones and Uche Ofoegbu combined for 46 points and 25 rebounds. Green (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Jones (16 points, 12 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles as UNLV held the Aggies to a Runnin Rebel-opponent season-low 59 points. Saturday s game will mark the only regular-season meeting of the year between Fresno State and UNLV. The Runnin Rebels hold a all-time series advantage, but they are just 10-6 all-time against the Bulldogs in Fresno. UNLV is led in scoring by junior guard Jovan Mooring (12.4 ppg), who is one of four Runnin Rebels averaging in double figures. Jones leads the team in rebounding (6.4 rpg), while Mooring also is tops in assists (4.0 apg, 2nd in MW). Fresno State, which is 12-2 at home this season, has won four straight games overall: vs. San Jose State (77-59), vs. New Mexico (71-61), at San Diego State (63-55) and at Boise State (74-67). Junior guard Jaron Hopkins leads four Bulldogs in double figures with 13.2 ppg. Senior forward Cullen Russo leads the team in rebounding (5.7 rpg), while Hopkins is second (5.4 rpg). Hopkins also leads the team in assists (3.5 apg) and steals (2.2 spg). He spent the last nine years as head coach at New Mexico State where he compiled a (.641) record. His current career record is (.617). He earned win No. 200 on Nov. 19 against Cal State Fullerton. Coming to UNLV was actually a return to Las Vegas for Coach Menzies. He spent a year with the Runnin Rebels on Lon Kruger s staff in as an assistant coach. The Runnin Rebels opened the season with six straight games at the Thomas & Mack Center, going 4-2, and are now 9-9 at home. UNLV is 2-10 away from home this year, including 2-8 in true road games. UNLV played three ranked teams in a span of 12 days during the non-conference season this year: vs. No. 5/4 Duke at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 10, vs. No. 22 Oregon in Portland on Dec. 17, and vs. No. 3 Kansas at home at the Thomas & Mack Center on Dec. 22. UNLV is led in scoring by junior guard Jovan Mooring (12.4 ppg), senior forward Tyrell Green (12.0 ppg), sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (10.7 ppg) and senior forward Christian Jones (10.6 ppg). Junior forward Dwayne Morgan was leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), but has missed the last 21 games because of injury. It was announced on Jan. 19 that he will miss the rest of the season. UNLV was picked to finish eighth in the year s Mountain West race by the media. The Runnin Rebels have 12 newcomers on this year s roster. Only three players returned from last year s team. D. Morgan and Poyser were the leading returning scorers. Morgan averaged 5.5 points per game last year, while Poyser was at 5.4 ppg. UNLV finished the season with an overall record of and placed sixth in the Mountain West with an 8-10 mark. Two players from last year s UNLV team were taken in the 2016 NBA Draft. Patrick McCaw was picked No. 38 overall by the Golden State Warriors, while Stephen Zimmerman Jr. was selected No. 41 by the Orlando Magic. the fresno state bulldogs (18-11, 10-7 mountain west) Fresno State is 12-2 at home this season. The Bulldogs have won four straight games overall: vs. San Jose State (77-59), vs. New Mexico (71-61), at San Diego State (63-55) and at Boise State (74-67). Fresno State returned six letterwinners, including three starters, off last year s team that went and finished second in the Mountain West with a 13-5 mark. The Bulldogs won last year s MW Tournament to earn the league s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This year s team, which has seven upper classmen on its roster, was picked to finish fourth in the Mountain West. Head coach Rodney Terry is in his sixth year as a college head coach and has a career record of (.520). series history This will be 42nd meeting between UNLV and Fresno State in men s basketball. UNLV leads the all-time series This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. UNLV is 10-6 all-time at Fresno State. The Runnin Rebels lost their last time in Fresno, last season ( in 2OT). UNLV has lost three straight to Fresno overall and is 1-2 in their last three games at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State swept the season series last year winning Dec. 30, 2015, in Las Vegas (69-66) and Feb. 6, 2016, in Fresno ( , 2OT). The 6-foot-8-inch forward from Baltimore, Md., missed the first game of the season on Nov. 11 vs. South Alabama, then played in eight straight games from Nov Dec. 10. He has now missed 21 straight. We were hopeful that Dwayne would be able to return this season, Menzies said when the announcement was made. Unfortunately, his injuries have lingered on and returning this season isn t possible. Missing him has impacted our team, however, just like in life, other guys have opportunities to step in and step up. Morgan averaged 9.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in 23.0 minutes per game in his eight appearances this season. At the conclusion of the season, UNLV will apply for a medical redshirt for Morgan. UNLV is part of the coaches vs. cancer 3-point challenge UNLV men s basketball is a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-point Challenge. UNLV head coach Marvin Menzies and the Runnin Rebels hosted a Coaching for Literacy Awareness Game on February 11, which was also in partnership with San José State and head coach Dave Wojcik.. To promote literacy awareness in the community, both the UNLV and SJSU coaching staffs wore green the official color of the Fight for Literacy. Coaching for Literacy works with sports teams nationwide to generate awareness about the importance of literacy and its impact on social issues such as employment, crime and poverty. mooring has emerged as runnin rebel point guard In Mountain West play, junior guard Jovan Mooring has averages of 15.3 ppg, 4.8 apg, 1.6 spg, 1.8 assist-turnover ratio and is shooting 38.5 percent from 3-point range. He currently is second in the league in assists (4.0 apg) and fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6) for all games, while in conference-only games he is 12th in scoring, first in assists, third in steals, fourth in assist-turnover ratio and 10th in 3-point field-goal percentage. He has scored 20 or more points in four of the last 11 games and had a string of six straight games in double figures snapped vs. Colorado State on Feb. 4. He will miss the rest of the season. Cheickna Dembele missed four games because of a foot injury. Christian Jones missed five games because of a foot injury before playing vs. Duke, then missed three straight games with an ankle injury before returning vs. No. 3 Kansas. Uche Ofoegbu did not play against Southern Utah because of an illness. Kris Clyburn played but did not start at Arizona State because of an illness. Troy Baxter did not play vs. San Diego State because of a groin injury and was out vs. New Mexico on Feb. 1 and vs. Colorado State on Feb. 4 because of his foot. He has now also missed the last five games because of his foot.

Runnin Rebel sophomore guard Jalen Poyser made the all-tournament team after averaging 18.0 ppg over the four UNLV games vs. Cal State Fullerton, Northern Arizona, TCU and Western Kentucky. It also was the most points that UNLV scored in a game against a Division I team since 2011 when it had 124 against Central Arkansas. up next After closing out the regular season on Saturday at Fresno State, UNLV will return to Las Vegas and play in the Mountain West Tournament starting Wednesday, March 8. the marvin menzies era at unlv On April 22, Marvin Menzies officially became the 13th full-time head coach in the history of Runnin Rebel basketball. Menzies returned to Las Vegas after nine years as the head coach at New Mexico State, going (.641) with the Aggies. He led his team to the postseason in each of the last five seasons and six of the last seven years. He won his 200th career game on Nov. 19 vs. Cal State Fullerton. He was an assistant coach on Lon Kruger s staff at UNLV in quite the turnaround Injuries kept senior forward Tyrell Green out for most of last season, and when he did play early in the year, he only averaged 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds. This year, he has started 18 of UNLV s games, while playing in all 30, and is second on the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg. He is also averaging 5.4 rpg. He has scored in double figures in 13 of the last 21 games and has led the Runnin Rebels in scoring in nine of those. He has scored 20 or more points in a total of five games this season including a career-high 28 on Feb. 11 vs. San José State. He had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds on Senior Night Wednesday. roster makeup UNLV returned just three players off last year s roster. Senior forward Tyrell Green, junior forward Dwayne Morgan (who is out for the rest of this season) and sophomore guard Jalen Poyser were the only players back from the team. Morgan averaged 5.5 ppg last season, while Poyser was at 5.4 ppg. The roster has 12 newcomers on it (six freshmen, three JC transfers, two Div. I graduate transfers (seniors eligible immediately) and one Div. I transfer (must redshirt). bahamas trip The Runnin Rebels took a summer foreign tour to the Bahamas in August under Coach Menzies, playing three games - vs. the University of Toronto (L, 80-79), the CTG Knights (W, ) and the Providence Storm (W, ). The trip was funded by the Runnin Rebels Club. marquee non-conference games UNLV had several marquee opponents from Power Five conferences on its non-conference schedule this season: TCU in the Global Sports Classic at the Thomas & Mack Center, at Arizona State, vs. No. 5/4 Duke at the new T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip, vs. No. 22 Oregon (in Portland) and No. 3 Kansas at the Thomas & Mack Center on Dec. 22. 5 fifth-winningest DIVISION I PROGRAM OF ALL-TIME Since the program s inception in , the Runnin Rebels posted an all-time record of 1, (entering the season) against four-year American institutions for a winning percentage of.705. That ranks as the fifth-winningest program by percentage in NCAA history, only behind Kentucky (.764), North Carolina (.737), Kansas (.723) and Duke (.707). nba draft - lottery picks - unlv s bennett goes no. 1 overall in 2013 Over the last 19 seasons, the UNLV program has had four players drafted with lottery picks in the annual NBA Draft. Anthony Bennett was selected No. 1 overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, becoming the second UNLV player to be the top selection (Larry Johnson in 1991 was the other). UNLV is only the 18th school to ever have multiple No. 1 overall draft choices and is just the fourth to have two No. 1 NBA Draft picks in the last 25 years. Only one school has ever had three No. 1 draft picks. The program had back-to-back lottery selections in 1998 and 1999 with Keon Clark (13th overall by the Orlando Magic ) and Shawn Marion (ninth overall by the Phoenix Suns ). With Rashad Vaughn picked No. 17 overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, UNLV has had two first-round selections over the last four years. A total of 15 Runnin Rebels have been selected in the NBA s first round since 1975, and of those, nine have been lottery selections. Ricky Sobers was UNLV s first player to be selected in the first round in 1975 by the Phoenix Suns. The Reb Zone Sports Show airs Sundays nights at 11 p.m. exclusively on FOX5 following FOX5 News at 10 p.m. Weekend Edition and FOX5 SportsPlus. Runnin Rebels Retired Eddie Owens Jersey On nov. 16 Eddie Owens, the former Runnin Rebel All-American and the all-time leading scorer in program history, had his UNLV jersey retired (not his number) during a special ceremony at halftime of UNLV s game on Nov. 16 vs. UC Riverside. Owens, who starred at UNLV from under Hall of Fame coach Jerry Tarkanian, was part of the Hardway Eight, the Runnin Rebels that put the program on the national map and advanced to the school s first NCAA Final Four. Owens scored 2,221 points during his UNLV career, 148 more points than any other Runnin Rebel in history -- and did so before the introduction of the 3-pointer. He also holds the UNLV record for most field goals made in a career with Final four team honored on feb years after the UNLV men s basketball team made the school s second trip to the NCAA Final Four, the team was honored at the Thomas & Mack Center on Feb. 25. That team was a special one as it became the first UNLV squad to end the regular season as the nation s top-ranked team. Led by Freddie Banks, Jarvis Basnight, the late Armon Gilliam, Gerald Paddio and Mark Wade, the team coached by the late Jerry Tarkanian ran through the Pacific Coast Athletic Association with a perfect record of The team s only regular-season loss came at then-no. 16 Oklahoma, UNLV entered the NCAA Tournament that year as the top seed in the West Region, breezing through the first three rounds. The squad received a big scare in the regional final when they were forced to overcome an 18-point deficit against Iowa. The triumph earned UNLV a spot in the Final Four at the Superdome in New Orleans. Banks shined in the semifinal matchup with Indiana, connecting on a tournament-record 10 3-pointers, but it wasn t enough as the Runnin Rebels fell to the eventual national champions, The loss ended UNLV s season with a record of The team was inducted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.

UNLV kept the game close the entire second half. Tyrell Green hit a 3-pointer with 6:53 remaining to trim the UNLV deficit to 57-55, but the Runnin Rebels couldn t get closer. Each time they cut into the deficit, South Alabama responded. It was the Runnin Rebels first season-opening loss in 12 years. Kris Clyburn was limited with a knee injury, but still scored 13 points. The win was the first at UNLV for head coach Marvin Menzies. Jalen Poyser led the Runnin Rebels with a career-high 20 points and a career-high-tying seven rebounds. Poyser was 7 of 11 from the field and 4 of 7 on 3-pointers. He added three steals and two assists. Christian Jones added 13 points with five rebounds for UNLV. The Runnin Rebels twice led by 15 points early in the second half but went 7:10 without field goal, and UC Riverside took a lead with 7:55 left on a 3-pointer by Dikymbe Martin. Jones answered with a three-point play to put UNLV ahead for good, UNLV led by four points with 4:15 to go when Jovan Mooring made a deep 3-pointer to beat the shot clock, and Poyser made another to put the Runnin Rebels ahead with 3:11 remaining. Dwayne Morgan (hip) and Cheickna Dembele (right foot) played for the first time this season. Morgan had six points and three rebounds in 14 minutes. Dembele played in only the first half, scoring four points, grabbing three rebounds and recording a block and a steal in seven minutes. Ben Coupet Jr. also saw his first action and had eight points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes. UNLV had 12 assists with only five turnovers in the first half, but ended the game with 17 and 15. UNLV retired the jersey of Eddie Owens, the all-time leading scorer in program history, at halftime.
