Philosophy and expectations: 2015 PEM-DE Boys Soccer Team and Player Information All squads will begin practice at the same time JV and varsity will begin every practice together. Every player will be developed at multiple positions for flexibility during practice and games. Player rotations will be used during games for maximum speed. When your turn to play occurs, go 100%. Playing time: o JH: relatively equal for all players. o JV: all players will participate but generally those of a higher ability will receive a higher percent of playing time. o Varsity: best players will play the greatest percent of the time. Generally, players will participate. In the situation where 18 or more players are dressed for varsity, players will be informed before the contest whether to expect playing time. Conditions of the game may alter those expectations. All players are eligible for varsity but only in unique situations will a player younger than 9 th grade be moved up. The varsity will provide a uniform for all seniors and for those underclassmen on the varsity. Some varsity uniforms may be reserved for rotation use by underclassmen. During the regular season, we may dress more players than we are allowed during the playoffs. The playoff roster is limited to 20 plus 2 goalkeepers; the top 22 players will be listed on the playoff roster. The remaining varsity members will continue to practice and join the team on the bench during playoff games. All players are eligible for JV (including seniors but highly unlikely). 9 th graders are eligible for JH (and may be designated to practice with the JH at times). The JH squad will emphasize basics and individual drills while the JV and varsity will concentrate on formations and team drills. Expect a win/loss % over.500. Varsity season goals: Be a top 4 seed and play for the section championship.
2015 PEM-DE Boys Soccer Team and Player Information Rules: 1) Players are expected to arrive early to practice in order to begin conditioning drills right at the time practice starts. 2) Shin guards and covering socks are required to be worn at every practice. 3) Every practice will conclude with sprints. 4) All players are to ride the bus to away games (occasional exceptions for D-E players). Whenever possible, D-E players will be picked up in Eyota at D-E High School. Rides home with parents are allowed with permission of the coach. 5) The bus will leave at the scheduled time. Any player who is late or who does not make the bus will sit out the first half of their game be 10 minutes early. 6) All players will dress up (dress shirt and khakis/slacks, tie optional) on school days of away games and will wear their game jersey or boys Bulldog soccer attire on school days of home games. 7) All players must be fully dressed for games 45 minutes before game time, home or away. Players who are late, not prepared, or not fully dressed will sit out the first half of their game. Verify your equipment and uniform are packed and ready to go the morning of a game. Know which uniform color to wear for that game, including socks. If you re not sure, bring both. 8) Inappropriate behavior on the bus will not be tolerated. Coaches will warn and provide consequences on second offenses. 9) No cell phone use during games (30 minutes prior to game time) and practices. 10) Coaches must approve the music being played prior to home games. 11) JH and JV players (excluding seniors) will be required to serve as ball boys during home games. A schedule will be prepared prior to the season. Expect two games to be assigned to each player, with 4 players serving as ball boys during each home game.
12) JV players (excluding seniors) will be required to video record varsity games. A schedule will be prepared prior to the season. Expect two games to be assigned to each player, with 2 players working together to record. Parent volunteers will be sought for varsity games in which the JV plays at the same time. 13) Players are expected to report all injuries to their coach after each practice and game. Together, possibly with the parents, a rehab plan will be determined, including whether to see the school s trainer. 14) Only team players for a squad will be allowed at the team bench during any contest. This applies to all squads. The only exception is seniors; all seniors should sit with the varsity team even if they are designated to play JV. 15) Minnesota High School League rules prohibit players from playing on any other soccer teams during the high school soccer season, both practices and games. This includes co-ed & adult soccer leagues and any open soccer event where a coach is providing instruction.
2015 PEM-DE Boys Soccer Team and Player Information Uniform Policy: All Squads: All players will be issued a pair of game socks, courtesy of the PEM- DE Boys Soccer Booster Club. Please limit their use to games only; have alternate pairs of soccer socks for practice. Shin guards are required for practices and games. They must have the NOCSAE insignia on them to be legal. Effectively all shin guards produced in the past five years have this insignia. Soccer cleats are highly recommended. They differ from football and baseball cleats in that they may not be metal and will not have a cleat at the top of the shoe. Players may wear any color of cleats they like. Mouth guards and head gear are optional. Please do not wear your game uniforms during practice. Junior High: A jersey will be provided for game use during the season. The game jersey will be collected at the last game of the season. Rules require that the junior high players wear similar uniforms during games. Therefore, they are required to wear the same color jersey, shorts, and socks. Players must provide their own shorts; they should be black in color. Logos or stripes on the shorts are allowed. Junior Varsity: Players will receive two jerseys for game use during the season, gold for home games and black for away games. There are a limited number of black game shorts that will also be distributed. The uniform will be collected at the last game of the season. For players who do not receive varsity game shorts, they are required to wear solid black shorts during games. Logos on the shorts are allowed but no stripes.
Varsity: After one week of practice, the coaches will determine the players who will be on the varsity roster throughout the regular season. The roster will include all seniors and selected underclassmen likely to receive playing time on the varsity team. Underclassmen will be informed prior to each game whether they will dress for varsity. Players on the varsity roster will receive game shorts, two game jerseys, and two pairs of socks. Home uniforms will be white socks, black shorts, and white jersey. Away uniforms will be black socks, black shorts, and black jersey. The game uniforms will be collected at the end of the season. Undergarments that show beneath the game uniforms should be of matching color. For example, a black long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt could be worn beneath the black game jersey on a cold away game. During the season, selected players may be promoted to the varsity roster for a game. On those occasions, the head coach will provide the uniform to the player on the day of the game and collect it immediately following. Goalkeepers: Uniforms for goalkeepers will be provided by PEM. However, individual players may elect to purchase their own goalkeeping uniforms. Jerseys for JH and JV must be of a varying color that does not confuse the goalkeeper with the jersey of the other players. Varsity goalkeeper jerseys must have unique jersey numbers; talk to the head coach if a specific jersey is desired to ensure it can be used or altered to be legal. Goalkeeper gloves are available for our keepers. Unfortunately these are of poor quality and may not fit your hands properly. The recommendation is for committed goalkeepers to purchase their own soccer gloves. Varsity Jersey Purchase Policy: Prior to the season, all seniors and projected varsity members (typically underclassmen who received varsity playing time during the prior season), will be allowed to purchase their game jerseys and have their name placed on the back. Players may elect to purchase either or both game jerseys. Shorts may not be purchased.
The name on the jersey must be the player s last name. Exceptions will be to allow first initial in the case of duplicate last names or full first name in the case of duplicate last name and first initial. Absolutely no nicknames will be allowed. The team has uniform numbers of 0, 00, and 1 to 25. Assignment of jersey numbers will be based on the prior year s assignment, then by grade. No numbers beyond 25 will be allowed; the team provides the game shorts which must have matching numbers. Payment for the jersey(s) must be received in advance. The cost per jersey will be announced prior to each season.
