1 Chiawana Riverhawks Baseball: Player and Team Expectations For the good of our baseball program, you will be held accountable for the following set of Riverhawk Baseball Team Expectations: 1. My first commitment at Chiawana is to be a student. I am expected to conduct myself as a student athlete in the classroom as well as on the field. I will do all that I can to gain the respect of my teachers and fellow students. 2. Playing baseball at Chiawana is a privilege. Out of 1800 students only 16+ are chosen to play varsity baseball. I have been selected to play and should consider myself an elite athlete. 3. Some Important Keys to Success: Players: 1. The team comes first. It is WE and not I that matters. Personal statistics are not as important as team goals. Placing OUR team above our own personal goals will allow us to be greater than we can be on our own. 2. Loyalty is a must. Complaining, backstabbing, criticism, and sarcasm will prevent us from greatness. Expect issues to occur and learn to communicate and resolve them in a positive fashion. 3. Care about your teammates. They are your family on the field. 1. Conduct yourself in a first-class manner at all times. You are representing your family, school, team, community, coaches, and yourself!

2 2. Be in class! Do not be late to class or school! No detentions for any reason! Be a student FIRST and an athlete second. 3. Playing time at all levels is determined by the coach at that level and will be based on each player's ability to help the team succeed. 4. Players are not guaranteed any amount of playing time. 5. Players who have made the Frosh, JV, or Varsity teams are always being evaluated and may move up or down at any point in the season. 6. Players are subject to removal from the team at any point in the season due to non-baseball issues such as grades, behavior, etc 7. No throwing bats or helmets. No arguing with umpires. No swearing. If you do, you will be disciplined which may include removal from a game/practice. 8. We ride the bus together as a team. You must provide a signed note by a parent and the Athletics Office or your parent must see the coaches in order for you to not ride the bus home. We PREFER everyone ride home on the bus. 9. Report all injuries immediately so they can be treated effectively! ALL pitchers must ICE after every game and practice. If you take the time it will help. If your arm is sore, ICE for 15 minutes, break for 10, ICE for WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM! Do things TOGETHER as a TEAM! 11. We ask 5 things of each player: A. Play the game as hard as you can. GET DIRTY. B. Play the game as intelligently as you can. THINK. C. Follow the rules of the team and the game. BE DEDICATED. D. Have fun while playing the game the right way. ALWAYS HUSTLE. E. Respect the game! HAVE RIVERHAWK PRIDE.

3 Practices/ Games: 1. I will be on time to all practices, meetings, and games. (Practices start@3pm) 2. Players are expected to show up to practices with baseball pants, cleats, and sleeves in Chiawana colors. Players need to wear their Chiawana hat to practice. 3. Players need to have shirts tucked in. 4. It is EVEREYONE S responsibility to keep our field in excellent condition! 5. We expect varsity players who know the system, drills, plays, and techniques to help and teach new/younger players on the team. 6. Hustle and effort must be displayed at all practices. You should break on every ball during BP, you should back up every throw, you should run after every ball, you should TALK; you should practice like it is a game situation. 7. I will give 100% on the field. I will carry out all instructions immediately and with a good attitude. I will run from drill to drill. I will hustle on and off the field. I will run out hard on every ball hit. 8. I will assume my role on the team and give my best to that role. 9. I will pick up my baseball equipment after practice and games. Any equipment left behind on the field, will result in conditioning. 10. I will keep my head in the game and support my teammates throughout the entire game.

4 11. I will remain on the field, in the dugout, or in the bull pen, except to chase game balls. 12. During the game, there will be absolutely no remarks directed from our bench toward the umpire, opposing coach, opposing players, or any spectator. During the game, you should concentrate on the game. Do Not talk to spectators or parents. 13. Players are provided game pants, jerseys, bags, and pullovers. All players must wear school issued uniforms ONLY. All uniforms will be collected at the conclusion of the season. These are to be kept clean and washed after every game day. Failure to turn in these items will result in fines. All uniforms must be washed prior to turning in. There will be a $5.00 fine if uniforms are not clean. 14. Non-Seniors on varsity who do not get 2 games in a double header should expect to play with JV the following day. 15. During the spring baseball season, no absences will be accepted to participate in other sports. 16. Players are responsible for reporting faulty equipment to coaches. Fundraising: 1. Every player in the program will help with fundraising. (This is not an option). All of these efforts benefit our baseball program. 2. Players, who exceed their goals, will receive additional gear. Communication: 1. Players are expected to communicate with parents on announcements such as meetings, etc.

5 2. Players are expected to notify coaches of any absence or tardies to practices/games by phone or text messages. 3. An unexcused absence will result in a one game suspension. 4. If a player has an issue to bring up with the coaching staff, it must take place after practice away from the team. 5. If parents have an issue to take up with the coach, they must set up a meeting no sooner than the following day with the athletic director. The player will be present at the meeting. 6. Players are expected to notify the coach of an injury for further assessment. 7. Once a player is injured to the point of having to be seen by a doctor, they will need a note of "return to participation" in order to be eligible. 8. In case of a head injury, PSD protocol will be followed. Parents: 1. Parents play an important role in high school baseball. They are expected to support their players and team. 2. Parents are expected to stay out of the dugouts at all times and communicate with players after the games away from the dugouts and bullpens. 3. Encourage your son to address issues and concerns with the coaching staff, We want a culture of open communication, and we want expectations to be clear.

6 4. If that conversation does not resolve the issue for your son, the parents will need to set up a meeting with the AD. The meeting will involve parents, player, and coaching staff. In Season Rules/Off Campus Rules: 1. I understand that the use of tobacco (smoked, chewed, or electronic), alcohol, or other illegal drugs are prohibited per the athletic code of the Pasco School District. 2. As an athlete, I understand that I cannot be in attendance of someone using alcohol/or drugs. It is MY responsibility to immediately remove myself from the premises. 3. I understand that consequences of this offense are removal from the team. *I intend to have fun and make this a great experience for myself, my teammates, and the coaching staff. *We have read and understood the above rules, responsibilities, and expectations required for participation on the Chiawana Riverhawks Baseball Teams.
