1 2017 PRHS Boys Lacrosse Registration Packet Registration Packet Instructions Players and Parents should review the registration packet, which includes the following: Team/Player Policies (Team Rules & Code of Conduct) Team Structure/Tryout Guidelines Parent/Guardian Guidelines General Waiver Acknowledgement & Agreement After reviewing the packet, please print and sign the Acknowledgement & Agreement on the last page. A signature is required from every player and each of his parents and/or guardians. Completed forms should be submitted to PRHSBL Club. Players will not be eligible to practice without a signed Acknowledgement & Agreement form on file. Contact the PRHSBL President Lynn Hein or Team Liasion, Pat Eastburn, with any questions. Mission Statement & Core Values Mission Statement TEAM/PLAYER POLICIES To promote the development of student athletes who exhibit integrity and leadership and will have a positive impact at Pine Richland High School and the greater community. E ARN IT EVERY DAY! Core Values Effort/Attitude: Our work ethic and attitude do not change depending on the circumstances. Effort is geared towards consistently improving yourself, and we will consistently maintain a positive work ethic and attitude. Passion : Always keep in mind why you are doing what you are doing. Focusing on positives and being enthusiastic will make your experience more fulfilling. Teamwork : Putting the needs of our teammates and others before our own in order to work towards a common goal. Respect : Have regard for all organizations, policies and people that are a part of your life.
2 Team Policies and Code of Conduct General Team Rules Arrive at least 5 minutes early to all team functions No hats or jewelry during any team functions Text or call your head coach if you are going to be late or miss any team functions Cell phones must be put away and silent at all team functions. Come prepared with necessary equipment/materials for all team functions. No palms up or negative reactions. No swearing. Communicate respectfully to teammates, coaches, and officials on and off the field. School Rules If you do not attend school, then you are not able to play on that particular day. Off Field Rules Locker room must be clean at all times. Notebooks, playbooks and pens are required at all team meetings. Community service will be offered and participation is encouraged. On Field Rules All players must have two sticks. White mid-calf socks and white cleats are required. Players will wear team gloves and practice apparel provided. Players should remain on sidelines during a game unless substituting for another player. Injured players will act as field managers during practice and games. Travel Rules Game day attire will be determined by team captains. Be respectful of the bus drivers and team managers, as they are a part of our team. Help load and unload coolers and food. Clean bus at all times; no trash left behind.
3 Captain Responsibilities Communicating with coaches about team issues. Holding team accountable for all team rules, both on and off the field. Looking out for well-being of players, noticing and addressing issues, and bringing issues to the attention of the Head Coach. Attendance Policy Players are required to attend and actively participate in all practices, including during Spring Break. Vacations, including school sponsored trips, are not an excused absence. Players are required to inform the coaches of any conflict via text or at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled practice or event. For all absences, players are expected to understand ALL materials, concepts and skills that they may have missed due to their absence. Attendance exceptions: Illness or Family Emergency: Players are required to notify their Head Coach via text prior to practice or game School Activities: Players are only excused for a conflicting school activity (concert, academic competition, etc.) PLAYERS ARE NOT EXCUSED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANOTHER SPORT! Practice Expectations Players will be dressed and ready to go at start of practice. Players will be attentive to the coaches instructions at all times. Players will come prepared with full equipment and game books. Games/Scrimmage Conduct Games or scrimmages can begin the second week of March. There will be anywhere from 2 to 4 games per week, along with practice during the season. Sideline conduct is expected to be of the highest sportsmanship. Both coaches and players are expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner while participating in interscholastic competition. Players will be removed from competition for behavior deemed unsportsmanlike by the officials or coaches. At an away game, the offending player will be removed to the bus to wait with a parent chaperone until the team returns to the bus. Only the Head Coach is permitted to approach an official at any time. Playing Time Playing time is earned and determined by the coaching staff. If there are questions regarding play time, players are encouraged to discuss this with their coach.
4 Academic Eligibility PRHSBL follows the Pine Richland School District requirements for school sponsored athletic programs. School Suspension Any suspension from PRSD for any reason will also result in game and/or practice suspension for the same period, or longer if deemed appropriate by the coaching staff. Illegal Substances Social Media Players will not use tobacco, alcohol, or drugs at any time. PRHSBL will follow PRSD guidelines and disciplinary actions. Derogatory remarks on any type of social media platform will not be tolerated at any time. It is the coach s discretion to have the player remove the comment(s). Team Structure Team Structure and Tryout Guidelines Junior Varsity Team Goals are to further develop individual skill level, but to combine some very broad based team concepts for Offense and Defense in preparation for the Varsity Team. The team will learn defensive and offensive strategies to continue to improve their skills and to prepare them for the Varsity level of play. Varsity The most competitive level of play, these athletes need to be mentally, emotionally and physically prepared in the game of lacrosse and continuously seeking to improve as an individual and a team. This team will work on advance strategies and field concepts, and learn to make adjustments during the course of a game to ensure of field success. This team will be composed of the most skilled players and the most physically able athletes seeking daily challenges. PRHSBL Tryout Information: Tryouts will be held the first week of WPIAL Spring Season. All players are required to participate in the tryout process and will be eligible to be placed on the Junior Varsity or Varsity team. Tryout #1: Monday, March 6, 3:30-5:30 Lakevue Athletic Club Game scrimmage to gain insight of each player's lacrosse abilities. Tryout #2: Tuesday, March 7, 4:00-6:00 Lakevue Athletic Club Lacrosse skills and drills, both old and new to determine player coachability.
5 Tryout #3: Wednesday, March 8, Time & Location TBD Fitness and conditioning tests. Players will be primarily evaluated on the following three characteristics: Attitude Effort Coachability Additional skills will also be taken into account: Lacrosse skills Athleticism Lacrosse IQ There will not be a predetermined final number of JV/Varsity roster spots before tryouts. Team rosters will be determined and posted online Wednesday, March 8 th. The first official practice will be on Thursday, March 9, Team placement is a decision made solely by the Head Coach and his coaching staff. Once the season is underway, the Head Coach and his staff have the discretion to make player changes between teams based on performance and attitude. PARENT/GUARDIAN GUIDELINES Parent and Coach Communication The policy of the Pine Richland Lacrosse coaching staff is for the players to communicate with the coaching staff regarding any issues. The coaches will not discuss on field strategies or playing time with any parent. If there is a question about any aspect of a player s game (i.e., play time, team placement, strategy), only the player will address the coach directly. In the case of a player addressing an issue with the coaches and a resolution is not reached, parents should contact Team Manager Liaison Pat Eastburn - with any problems and concerns. The Team Manager Liaison is responsible for obtaining answers from the coaching staff and accurately communicating this information back to the parents. If necessary, additional Board Members (President Lynn Hein, Vice President Ron Juncal.) may be asked to assist with further resolution. General Guidelines TRYOUTS WILL BE CLOSED TO ALL PARENTS. Please wait at least 24 hours before contacting the Liaison regarding any issue. Be positive about PR Lacrosse, teammates, and coaches around your student athletes. Parental outburst or negative comments toward coaches, referees, either team's players or fans during games will not be tolerated. These actions could result in spectator s removal from premises during the game and being banned from any future games. PRSD Athletic Department is in full support of these actions and has jurisdiction to enforce these rules at any home game.
6 GENERAL WAIVER Pine Richland High School Boys Lacrosse Club Player General Release, Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risk Agreement In consideration of participation in the Pine Richland High School Boys Lacrosse Club (PRHSBL) program and its events, the undersigned participant and his parent/guardian with legal responsibility for this participant, acknowledge and agree that they fully understand the risk of serious injury or death assumed by participating in this program. They represent that they have adequate health insurance coverage and that the participant is also a member of US Lacrosse and has the additional insurance coverage that is extended to US Lacrosse registered players. They further acknowledge that they have read the US LACROSSE RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT (which is incorporated by reference herein) and agree to be legally bound by its terms as well as to RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS PRHSBL, its officers, directors, agents, and/or persons acting as independent contractors for its benefit, including coaching and training personnel, as RELEASED PARTIES under that, and this, General Release. The undersigned also hereby release PRHSBL, its officers, directors, agents, and/or persons acting as independent contractors for its benefit, including coaching and training personnel and any persons acting on its behalf or for its benefit, from any claims that might occur as a result of participation in or transportation to out of town trips or away games. In the case of a medical emergency, the parent/guardian also hereby authorizes an adult advisor to be their agent, with full authority to consent to any Xray, examination, medical or dental treatment of their son, pursuant to the recommendation of a medical professional, if it is required during the course of the trip. It is understood that the parent will be contacted as soon as possible if such treatment is required. In addition, should the discipline of a participant become necessary during the trip, the parent/guardian understands that it is their responsibility to travel to the place of the event and retrieve their son. This Player General Release, Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risk Agreement applies to and controls all PRHSBL program activities in which the participant participates whenever and wherever such occur, including by example and without limitation, events or activities during the WPIAL season, as well as voluntary participation events such as Fall Ball, Winter Indoor activities, or any other out of WPIAL season event in which the participant participates. The Parent/Guardian signing below represents that he/she is authorized agent to sign for all other parent/guardians for the participant and that he/she/they will indemnify and hold PRHSBL and all other persons above described as benefiting from this General Release harmless from any claim or determination of liability in any action brought by the participant, on his behalf, or as a result of any injury or harm to the participant, regardless of on whose behalf or for whose benefit such action may be brought.
7 Acknowledgement and Agreement After reading the registration packet in its entirety, parents and players should print and sign this acceptance of the policies and procedures of the Pine Richland High School Boys Lacrosse Club. Please submit signed acknowledgement to the PRHSBL Club. Your signed acknowledgement must be received prior to your student athlete participating in the current lacrosse season.
