Coaching Staff Lady Mustangs Basketball Program Guidelines Varsity Coach Jenn Tolle Varsity Assistant Lindsey Abramson JV Coach \ Varsity Assistant Frank Eager FEager@PUSD11.net Freshman Coach Cris Dilworth CDilworth@PUSD11.net Athletic Director: Mark Ernster MErnster@pusd11.net Athletic Secretary: Michelle Alcantar MAlcantar@pusd11.net Follow us on Facebook: Sunrise Mountain Girls Basketball HUDL Page: Team Website: tinyurl.com/mustanghoops Program Mission We will conquer everyday with great intensity and a positive attitude regardless of our circumstances. We will serve others and provide value to our family and community always keeping first things first. Calendar: Please refer to team calendar. Times may be subject to change. Communication: As a program we will be using three primary means of communication; GroupMe, and Remind. Practice: 24 Hour Rule If you have any concerns beyond that of clarification that you would like addressed, we ask that parents do not approach coaches for a conference or with a concern before, during, or after games. If you need to speak with a coach make an appointment. Any concerns needing to be addressed may be directed to Coach Tolle. Program Policy & Procedures All practices are closed. Open only to players, managers, and coaches. This is in the best interest of the team. To promote team unity the girls will be required to wear the provided practice shorts and reversible jersey. A sports bra covered by a t- shirt or tank top must be worn underneath the practice jersey. Cell phones will be turned off and put away during practice. No player will leave the gym until the gym is cleaned up, all equipment is put away, and the coach has dismissed the team. Punctuality is very important when it comes to practice. If you are late to practice, you need to have a valid excuse, with a pass (example: doctor s note), and the coach needs to know the day before. If you show up late to practice without a pass there will be a consequence. Tardiness and absences affect the entire team and this is a team sport, they will also affect your playing time.

Home Games: The day of home games players will dress up (no jeans). Freshman players will be dressed in game uniform and warm ups and in the main gym by no later than 3pm. JV players will be dressed in game uniforms and warm ups in the main gym sitting in the stands behind the home bench by 4pm. JV will do a dynamic warm up and stretch during halftime of the freshman game in the main gym. Varsity players will be dressed in game uniforms and warm ups in the main gym sitting in the stands behind the home bench by 5:30pm. Varsity will do a dynamic warm up and stretch during halftime of the JV game in the main gym. The Varsity will shoot around in the practice gym until the beginning of the 4th quarter. Away Games: Players will wear jeans and a team shirt to school for all away games. ALL PLAYERS will ride with the team to and from away games. We win and lose as a team. Freshman will take the AV bus; JV & Varsity will ride together on a school bus. Bus departure times are listed on the team calendar for JV and Varsity but may be subject to change. Freshman will take the activity bus and departure times will be determined by the coach. You will need to bring any homework to away games, they will be late nights. Also plan to pack a snack. Pre-game time schedule will be same as home games; with the exception that varsity will not have the practice gym to warm up in. Before and after your scheduled game you will leave the gym for no reason other than to use the restroom, you will not wander around campus or sit outside. Violation of this rule will result in a consequence to be determined by the coach. Before and after your scheduled game you will sit in the stands with the rest of your team. Find a section in the bleachers and all sit together. Cheer on your teammates! The following are guidelines from the PUSD athletic handbook: - Requests by a parent or legal guardian to use private vehicle transportation to or from away activities shall be only approved by administration (pg.16). - Only a parent or legal guardian may transport his or her student athlete from an athletic event with the coach s permission (pg.16). Absences & Tardiness: If a player is to be absent, please inform the coaching ASAP via . Tardiness and absences affect the entire team and this is a team sport, they will also affect your playing time. Earning a Varsity Letter: A player will log minutes in eight or more Varsity games to earn a letter. Playing Time: If the girls are concerned or have questions about their playing time, they can set up a time with coaches before or after practice. There will not be equal playing time. Playing time is not guaranteed. The girls will be competing for their positions, and they will get playing time at practicing bettering their game. Uniforms: Uniforms will be passed out at practice. It is the girls responsibility to take care of their assigned uniforms. Each girl will be given two jerseys and two pairs of shorts. They are not to wear their jerseys or shorts to outside events or practice. If the uniform gets damaged, the girls will be charged for it. The uniforms need to be taken care of NFHS Team Apparel Guidelines - Headbands, wrist bands, compression shorts, and arm sleeves shall be white, black, beige, or a single solid school color and shall be the same color for each item and all participants.

- Undershirts shall be a single solid color similar to the torso of the jersey. - Compression shorts/tights shall be a single solid color similar to the predominant color of the shorts; the length shall be above the knee. - One visible manufacture s logo/trademark/reference OR school logo/mascot is permitted in the wristbands, headbands, compression shorts, under shirts, arm and leg sleeves Player Participation Fee & Fundraising Only required fee is the district board approved participation fee. Every player is expected to participate in helping to raise funds for our program. We use money raised to purchase player gear, provide meals for away games, our program dinner, and equipment. Our goal is for JV/Freshman players to raise $150 and Varsity players to raise $250 dollars. There are two ways each player can go about meeting their goal: 1. Free throw-a-thon donations. 2. Banner sales. Three-Strike Policy THREE STRIKE AND PLAYER CONDUCT POLICY The three-strike policy has been implemented into the girls basketball program to promote a positive and successful atmosphere for all athletes. Each player will be responsible for their actions toward their teachers, coaches, and teammates. The Three Strike Policy If an athlete violates any of the areas below or fails to adhere to program policy or player expectations, they will earn a strike. Each strike will be documented by the date, the athlete s acknowledgement of the issue, and the coach s signature. If an athlete earns three strikes in a single season, they will be asked to turn in all equipment and leave the program. An athlete may return the following season to tryout and return to the program. Each athlete in our program is expected to; 1. Be a good student. 2. Be respectful. 3. Be committed and punctual. 4. Be a good communicator. 5. Be a good teammate. 6. Be mindful of your safety and the safety of others.

Be a student. You are a student first and an athlete second. Sports are extra-curricular, and it is your privilege to participate not your right. We will miss some class time for travel during the season, you will be tired, and out late traveling to and from games. None of these things may be used as an excuse. Our expectation is that you are awake, alert, and enthusiastic in the classroom regardless of how you may feel. Any player that has been red carded will be ineligible to participate in any practice or game. Each time a player is red-carded it will result in a strike. Be respectful. Student athletes will be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. In other words, they will be respectful towards the coaching staff, their teammates, family, teachers, staff at SMHS, opposing teams, and referees. This expectation includes all forms of social media. This expectation also includes following program policy and procedures. Players that fail to respect others will first be addressed by the coach. The offense may result in a loss of practice or playing time. Players may be removed from a game situation immediately. Depending on the severity of the incident a 1 game suspension may result. After being addressed each repeated offense may also result in a strike. Be committed and punctual. Being on a team is a big commitment. You are expected to attend every practice, game, and team activity outlined in our program calendar. Please try to schedule around these dates and times. Specific game day procedures are outlined in this document. An absence from practice will result in the player being ineligible to compete in the 1 st quarter of the next game. An additional quarter will be added for each absence. All absences may affect playing time in addition to being ineligible for 1 quarter of play. Being late to practice more than 2 times without a valid reason an example of a valid reason is taking a test or getting tutoring. 2 or more unexcused absences will result in a strike. Be a good communicator. Players are expected to abide by the following communication guidelines. 1. Whenever possible please communicate face to face with your coach. 2. Communicate possible absences or schedule conflicts in advance. 3. Respect the 24-hour rule. 4. Respond promptly. 24-hour rule: If you have any concerns beyond that of clarification that you would like addressed, we ask that parents or players do not approach coaches for a conference or with a concern before, during, or after games. If you need to speak with a coach make an appointment. Any concerns needing to be addressed may be directed to Coach Tolle. Failure to adhere to the 24-hour rule by a player or parent will result, without warning, in a strike for the player.

Be a good teammate. How to be a good teammate: - Yell encouragement and whisper criticism. - Give more than you take. - Star in your role. - Maintain a positive attitude and positive body language. No BCD (Blaming, Complaining, Defending) - Protect the team. Resolve issues within the team and avoid speaking negatively about players, coaches, or the team as a whole. - Bring energy and enthusiasm. Any issues related to the failure to be a good teammate will be addressed by the coach. After being addressed each following offense may result in a strike". Be mindful of your safety and the safety of others. The following are guidelines taken from the PUSD student-athlete handbook. Any of the following violations are a more serious offense and involve compromising personal or team safety. They will be treated as such and will result in a minimum 6 game suspension effective immediately upon knowledge of the incident. Sunrise Mountain Girls Basketball Conduct Violations of any one of these rules will result in, at a minimum, 6 game suspension effective immediately upon knowledge. Total number of games suspended, and any additional consequences will depend upon infraction and is at the discretion of the coach and administration. Removal from the team may be possible depending on severity of the offense. 1. No inappropriate use of social media. Athletes should avoid the following: A.Derogatory language or remarks about teammates, coaches, teachers, members of the SMHS student body, or members of other schools. B.Demeaning statements about or threats to any third party. C. Incriminating photos or statements depicting violence; hazing, sexual harassment; vandalism; stalking; underage drinking; selling, possessing or using controlled substances; or any other inappropriate behaviors. D.Creating serious danger to the safety of another person or making credible threat of serious physical or emotional injury to another person. E. Indicating knowledge of an unreported felony theft of felony criminal damage to property. F. Indicating knowledge of an unreported school or team violation regardless if the violation was intentional or unintentional. 2. Drug/Alcohol Abuse, Possession or Distribution 3. Tobacco use or possession 4. Unlawful or delinquent behavior 5. School suspension 6. Hazing (See attached hazing district policy)
