2019 Girls Golf Handbook Dear Parents and Golfers: We believe in developing outstanding student-athletes. Our desire is that our athletes continually strive for excellence in their lives. We want them to explore new opportunities and ideas that will encourage them to be wiser, deeper, and stronger. Our coaching philosophy revolves around having fun and developing our athletes physically, psychologically, and socially as they work to become a TEAM. We wish to instill in each player hard work, confidence, discipline, enthusiasm, determination, strong team work, desire, and love of the game. It is vital to us that each player believes in herself, believes in each other, believes in the team, and believes in this program. The following guidelines/expectations in conjunction with the athletic handbook have been set for the 2019 Girls Golf Season at Joliet Township High School. The golf staff feels that our athletes need to be a notch above regular students. More is asked of them and more is expected. Our coaches will do everything in their power to help make each athlete the best she can be both as a golfer and a person. We expect everyone in this program to give their best always and show class both on and off the field, win or lose. The athletes are representing our school, our town, your family, the golf program, and most importantly themselves.
General Conduct Rules/Essential Ingredients for a Successful Team: 1. Put the TEAM FIRST. 2. Always be courteous and polite. 3. Never criticize, rag, or raze a teammate or opponent. 4. Be at every practice and game. It is vital to the team that YOU are there. 5. Be on time. 6. Avoid the use of profane language. 7. Uniforms will be worn correctly. We will look like a TEAM and play like a TEAM. Be respectful of teammates, coaches and the opposition. 8. Carry yourself with class. Be mature on and off the course. 9. Don t take part in anything that will reflect poorly on you, the team, the program, or the school. 10. Discuss concerns with coaches. We are here to help. 11. Have good, positive communication with your team. 12. Earn the right to be proud and confident. 13. Never give up, lose faith, or patience. 14. Always push the team and yourself to become the best you are capable of being. 15. HAVE FUN!!! MAKE THIS SEASON YOUR BEST SEASON EVER!!! Your daughter is an important member of this program. She NEEDS to be committed to it through all the ups, downs, privileges, and responsibilities. Being part of this great team is a PRIVILEGE A few of the RESPONSIBILITIES include: daily practices/matches, a high standard for academics and behavior, and upholding the commitment to the TEAM.
Academic, Conduct, and Community Policy 1. Joliet Township District 204 eligibility rules will be enforced. 9 th- 12 th grade: All athletes must pass 5 credit subjects per semester if a student is not passing 5 classes; the athlete would be ineligible for the following week (Sunday Saturday). If the athlete s status does not improve, he/she will remain ineligible. 1st time = ineligible from all IHSA contests, can still participate in practice 2 nd time = ineligible from all IHSA contests and all practices. (An excessive amount of absences due to poor grades will affect playing time.) 3 rd time = Dismissal from the team. May not join any open gym, weight room, or other activity until original team has completed their schedule. Practice/Absence Policies Every practice/match is mandatory. Student athletes should arrive at the golf course by 345pm ready for practice or match. There are two types of absences/tardies Excused Absence - you were not there, but you notified your coach ahead of time (Orchestra, private lesson-approved and cleared, band, family). Unexcused Absence- you were not there and absence was not excused No-Show - you were not there and you did not notify your coach. **Players should not send a teammate to inform the coach she is not going to attend practice/game. These messages will not be accepted by a coach, and will automatically be considered unexcused. Excused Tardy- you were late for practice/match prior and it was excused by coach. Unexcused Tardy- you were late for practice/match and it was not excused by coach. Only excused misses will be allowed with a note from a doctor due to illness, or a reason that is approved upon prior to your absence by your immediate head coach (see above for examples). Players who are NO-SHOW/UNEXCUSED ABSENCE OR UNEXCUSED TARDY for Practice or Matches will have the following consequence: FIRST NO-SHOW/UNEXCUSED ABSENCE/UE TARDY athlete is suspended for ONE match SECOND NO-SHOW/UNEXCUSED ABSENCE/UE TARDY athlete is suspended for TWO matches THIRD NO-SHOW/UNEXCUSED ABSENCE/UE TARDY DISMISSAL from team All players must attend at least half of the school day to be eligible to practice. If an absence is not coded excused prior to practice starting the player will not be allowed to practice and will be marked as down as an unexcused absence.
Behavior Rules 1. If a player receives discipline for behavior in classes or for negative teammate behavior (i.e. bullying, causing a division within the program) she will have the following consequences: 1 st offense = parent contact 2 nd offense = parent contact & 1 match suspension 3 rd offense = removal from team *Severe violations could result in automatic suspension and/or removal from team. 2. No drinking of any alcoholic beverages. 3. No use of illegal drugs. 4. No use of tobacco. Cell phone Policy No cell phones during matches or practice. In a match you will be disqualified AND miss the next match. At practice, use of cell phone without permission will result in running. If behavior persists, one match suspension each time thereafter. Schedule Changes 1. When playing a fall sport, it is important to remember that weather often dictates the schedule. To check for any changes to the schedule please refer to the 8 to 18 website, Twitter and/or listen to daily announcements. Fundraisers 1. Each player in the program is required to participate in a team fundraising activity. Social Networking Players should remember that all social networking sites are not private. Any information posted to these sites, are a representation of being a JT Golfer. This information can be used by the school if presented with any information linked to bullying and/or harassment of another Joliet Township student, or a student (team) from an opposing school. This type of behavior will not be tolerated and immediate disciplinary action will be taken. Coach Contacts/Playing Time If you disagree with a coach s decision, please schedule a time to talk to the coach at least 24 hours after the match. At this meeting, the athletic director will be in attendance as well. Playing time will not be discussed on match days with the coach. Player/Parent/Coach Contract
By signing this contract, we accept all policies set forth by Joliet Township Girls Golf Program and District 204 Athletic Department. Players will not be allowed to participate in practice or matches until all three signatures have been secured.
