The Titans and Louisiana Pacific Corporation (LP) are partnering to welcome guests from several charitable organizations to the game. Special recognition will be given to Boy Scouts of America and Girls Inc., whose representatives will be presented with an honorary game ball on the field. LP s charitable arm, the LP Foundation, is providing a total of 500 game tickets to the group of non-profits, which also includes YMCA Youth Development, Oasis Center, Boys & Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters. LP began the tradition of honoring local non-profit agencies at a Titans preseason game in Additionally, prior to the game, fans are encouraged to participate in the annual Nurses For Newborns Baby Shower Drive. LAST WEEK The Titans traveled to Carolina last week and were defeated 15-7 at the hands of the Panthers. The starting defense shut out the Panthers in the first half, offsetting the inability of the offense to produce a score of its own. In the second half, Kerry Collins delivered a 35-yard scoring pass to tight end Jared Cook to take a brief lead, but the Panthers responded with nine consecutive points to close the game. THE SAINTS Last week the Saints hosted the San Diego Chargers and won Quarterback Drew Brees passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns, as the starting offense played into the third quarter. Cornerback Leigh Torrence capped the scoring with an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown. Through three preseason games, Brees has passed for 331 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, seemingly picking up where he left off in 2009, when he set an NFL record with a 70.6 completion percentage and led the NFL with 4,388 passing yards and a passer rating. The Saints, who defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, open the NFL s regular season schedule at home against the Minnesota Vikings seven days after visiting the Titans. FINAL ROSTER CUTDOWN FOLLOWS GAME On Tuesday, Aug. 31, the Titans will be mandated by NFL rules to reduce their roster from 80 to 75 players. The final roster reduction to 53 players must occur no later than 5 p.m. CDT on Saturday, Sept. 4, two days after the Titans play the Saints. On Sept. 5, NFL clubs can establish eight-man practice squads.

3 Titans vs. Saints Page 3 THIS WEEK S MATCHUP TITANS-SAINTS SERIES HISTORY The Titans and Saints renew a long-standing preseason rivalry this week. In 26 previous meetings in the preseason, the Saints lead The two teams met every preseason from , and no team has played the Saints in the preseason more than the Titans. The Titans have faced only the the Dallas Cowboys more often in the preseason (34 games) than the Saints. In the last Titans-Saints preseason contest, which was played in 2006, then-rookie quarterback Vince Young made his professional debut in a Saints win. In head-to-head regular season matchups, the Titans and Saints have played 12 times, with the Titans holding a advantage. That includes a current four-game winning streak by the Titans dating back to The first regular season game between the Saints and the then-houston Oilers occured in 1971, five seasons after the Saints began play as an expansion franchise in the NFL. The game resulted in a score, one of the six ties in Oilers/Titans history. The last time the Saints visited LP Field in the regular season was Sept. 21, On that day, the Titans earned a victory behind 100 rushing yards by Eddie George and 252 passing yards from Steve McNair. Most recently, the Titans and Saints met on Monday Night Football on Sept. 24, 2007 at the Louisiana Superdome. Vince Young passed for a pair of touchdowns, and linebacker Keith Bulluck recorded a career-high three interceptions. TITANS-SAINTS: THE LAST MEETING Tennessee Titans 31 at New Orleans Saints 14 Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans, La Final Tennessee Titans New Orleans Saints Playing in their first Monday Night Football game since the 2004 season, the Tennessee Titans scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the New Orleans Saints, The Titans forced five Saints turnovers -- four interceptions and one fumble -- including three interceptions by linebacker Keith Bulluck. It was the first multiple-interception game of Bulluck s career, and he also tied the team single-game record and the league Monday night record. It was another interception, one by nickel defensive back Vincent Fuller with 2:39 to play in the fourth quarter, that sealed the game when Fuller returned it 61 yards for a touchdown. The Titans controlled the game early and built a 10-0 lead. They sustained long drives in each of their first three offensive series, including a six-minute drive to open the game that ended only after a fumbled snap knocked them out of field goal range and forced a punt. Their next possession ended in a 33-yard field goal by Rob Bironas. On the ensuing possession, the Saints elected to try for a first down on fourth-and-one from their own 45- yard line. When a long pass attempt sailed off target, the Titans took over and eventually scored on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Vince Young to Brandon Jones two minutes into the second quarter. Both teams each had an interception and a punt before the Saints mounted a sustained drive at the end of the first half. The 11-play drive ended with a one-yard touchdown run by Reggie Bush. The Saints took the lead midway through the third quarter when Bush scored on a second one-yard run, giving them a lead. On the kickoff that followed, rookie Michael Griffin sparked the team with a 48-yard return to the Tennessee 43-yard line. It set up a nine-play, 57-yard drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown run by LenDale White. The touchdown drive featured runs on seven of the nine plays. With the Saints driving to the Tennessee 42-yard line on their next possession, defensive end Travis LaBoy sacked Saints quarterback Drew Brees and forced a fumble that was recovered by defensive tackle Randy Starks. The turnover was the first of four by the Saints in the final quarter of play. The Titans promptly drove down the field and took a lead when Young found tight end Bo Scaife on a three-yard touchdown pass. Bulluck intercepted his second pass of the evening on the next drive and returned it 35 yards. However, a missed field goal by the Titans with 4:49 remaining in the game kept the Saints within 10 points. But Fuller, on a pass tipped by Cortland Finnegan, recorded his first career interception and returned it for a touchdown to put the game out of reach. Bulluck added his third interception later to give the Titans a five-to-one turnover ratio in the game. First-round pick Derrick Morgan is featured on the cover of this week s Titans Gameday. 14 Titans vs. Saints Page 14 THE HEAD COACHES Jeff Fisher is entering his 16th full season as head coach of the Tennessee Titans and his 11th as executive vice president in Fisher holds the franchise record for wins by a head coach and is the NFL leader in tenure with one team among active coaches. In 2009, he moved into the top 20 on the NFL s career head coaching wins list, and he is third among active coaches (Bill Belichick, Mike Shanahan). Fisher was named interim head coach during the 1994 season and has been in his current post ever since, leading the team through the transition from its final years in Houston to some of the club s greatest successes in Tennessee. Only nine other head coaches in NFL history have coached one team in more games than Fisher has led the Oilers/Titans. The 2009 Titans became the first team in league history to finish a season with a.500 record after beginning the year 0-6. The club s eight wins helped Fisher vault two spots on the NFL s all-time win list, moving past Weeb Ewbank (134) and Hank Stram (136) into 20th place. En route to an AFC South Division Championship, Fisher led the 2008 squad to victories in the first 10 games of the season, a franchise record and only the 11th feat of its kind in the NFL since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The 2008 team recorded a 13-3 regular season record for the third time (1999, 2000) under Fisher, matching the best record in team history. Dating back to the end of the 2007 schedule, the Titans won a team-record 13 consecutive regular season contests. Fisher guided the franchise to six playoff appearances (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008) from 1999 through Only three teams (Indianapolis, New England and Philadelphia) in that time period had more postseason appearances than the Titans (tied with six other teams). Fisher s playoff accomplishments include three Division titles (2000, 2002 and 2008), two AFC Championship Games (1999, 2002) and one Super Bowl berth (XXXIV). Fisher was one of three NFL head coaches, joining Bill Belichick (New England) and Andy Reid (Philadelphia), to remain with his team through every game during the decade of the 2000s. Only four other coaches Bud Grant (Minnesota, 1970s), Tom Landry (Dallas, 1970s), Chuck Noll (Pittsburgh, 1970s and 1980s) and Don Shula (Miami, 1970s and 1980s) previously had accomplished the feat in any decade since A native of Woodland Hills, Calif., the former USC and Chicago Bears defensive back became the Titans 15th head coach on Jan. 5, 1995 following his six-game stint as interim head coach. 21 Titans vs. Saints Page 21 INDIVIDUAL NOTES: OFFENSE THE OFFENSIVE LINE Hall of Fame offensive lineman Mike Munchak began coaching the team s offensive line in Since that time, the unit has consistently been ranked in the top 10 in fewest sacks allowed, net rushing yards and average rushing yards. In only one season (2001) since Munchak took over as offensive line coach have the Titans not finished the season ranked in the top 10 in any of the three categories. In 2009, the line performed at a high level, allowing the team s offense to finish second in sacks allowed (15) and first in rushing average (5.2). No NFL team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger had averaged over five yards per carry and allowed just 15 sacks in a season. The 15 sacks allowed by the Titans represented the second-lowest total in franchise history in a 16-game season (since 1978). Additionally, the line contributed to the fifth-largest individual rushing total in NFL history, as Chris Johnson accumulated 2,006 yards. There is at least one change to the unit in store for Four-year veteran Leroy Harris is ready to step into the starting lineup on a regular basis, most likely at left guard. Eugene Amano, a starter for two seasons at left guard, will slide into the center position with the departure of Kevin Mawae. Left tackle Michael Roos, right guard Jake Scott and right tackle David Stewart fill out the rest of the line, remaining in their previous spots. A brief rundown of the club s top offensive linemen: ¾ In 2008, the Titans turned to free agency to fill their vacant right guard spot, signing Jake Scott from the Indianapolis Colts. Scott started 55 consecutive games from to end his career with the Colts and has started every game in his first two seasons with the Titans. ¾ Eugene Amano has been an important contributor since his rookie year in 2004, backing up all three interior line positions for much of his first four seasons. The former seventh-round pick, who received a contract extension in 2010, stepped into a starting role at left guard in 2008 and is prepared to play center during the 2010 campaign. ¾ The starter at left tackle is Michael Roos, a former second-round pick from Eastern Washington. Roos started 15 games at right tackle as a rookie in 2005 and has started every game since then on the left side. Among other honors, he was named Associated Press first-team All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl in In 2009, he added second-team AP All-Pro honors. ¾ At right tackle, David Big Country Stewart completed his fifth NFL season in The former fourth-round pick from Mississippi State has only missed one start since entering the lineup in ¾ Leroy Harris gained experience at center, guard and right tackle during his initial three NFL seasons. He begins the 2010 campaign hoping to build on a successful stretch in 2009 in which he re-established himself as the team s signal caller. After the Titans opened the 2009 season with an 0-6 record, Young entered the starting lineup and led the squad to an 8-2 record over the final 10 weeks of the season. His 82.8 passer rating established a new career high and represented the 11th-best rating by a Titans/Oilers quarterback since His yards per attempt (7.3), touchdown percentage (3.9) and interception percentage (2.7) also were the best of his career. At the conclusion of the season, he was named to his second Pro Bowl as an alternate. In 2006, the 6-foot-5, 232-pound signal caller set virtually every rookie passing record for the franchise, including passing totals of 2,199 yards and 12 touchdowns. Additionally, he gained 552 yards on the ground, becoming the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era (1966-present) to rush for 500 yards as a rookie. The Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year directed a six-game winning streak that was the third-longest by a rookie quarterback since the 1970 merger. Then, in 2007, Young became the youngest quarterback in franchise history to lead his team to the playoffs.
