1 LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD (69,144) / NOVEMBER 10, :30 PM / PANTHERS.COM CAROLINA PANTHERS (3-5-1) at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (6-2) PANTHERS AND EAGLES MEET IN MONDAY NIGHT MATCHUP After an October that saw the Panthers drop three of four contests, a Carolina turnaround faces still another steep challenge with a Monday Night Football matchup at Philadelphia. The Panthers are coming off a 10-day layoff after dropping a Thursday night decision to New Orleans while the 6-2 Eagles come back home following a victory at Houston on Sunday. The loss to the Saints left the Panthers for the season as they play a 2013 playoff team for the fifth week in a row. Despite the disappointing record, Carolina still remains only a game out of first place in the NFC South. It has been a long time since the start of training camp and the mini-break has given us a chance to possibly get back some players we have been missing," says head coach Ron Rivera. Nowhere have those absences been more noticeable than along the offensive line where Carolina started two rookie free agents in guard Andrew Norwell and tackle David Foucault against the Saints. Rivera is hopeful of getting back starters Amini Silatolu at left guard and Byron Bell at left tackle for the Eagles. The losses have impacted the Panthers on offense where Carolina has managed only 46 points in the last three games during losses to Green Bay, Seattle, and New Orleans. In the games previous to those Carolina scored 37 points at Cincinnati and 31 against Chicago. Running back has been another injury plagued position but starter DeAngelo Williams returned after a five game absence to join Jonathan Stewart in the backfield against New Orleans as the Panthers rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games for the first time this season. The passing game has been able to compensate for the injuries in the backfield for most of the season, but turned in its most sporadic performance of the year against the Saints with only 151 yards. Even season-long receiving leaders Kelvin Benjamin and tight end Greg Olsen struggled, combining for only five catches and 48 yards as veteran Jerricho Cotchery provided the biggest play of the game with a 47-yard reception and two catches for 59 yards. Olsen still leads the team in receptions with 45 for 539 yards while Benjamin has 40 catches for a team-best 589 yards. Both players have five touchdowns each. Quarterback Cam Newton has navigated through the offensive changes to throw eight touchdown passes against five interceptions for an 81.4 passer rating while being the team s second leading rusher with 257 yards, only six behind Stewart s team leading total. The Saints reached Newton for four sacks behind Carolina s reworked offensive line, but the Panthers also managed to sack Drew Brees four times as Charles Johnson, Dwan Edwards, Wes Horton, and Colin Jones reached the quarterback. Johnson and Edwards combined their sacks with takeaways as Johnson recorded his 16th career forced fumble, tying him with Mike Minter for second place in team history while Edwards sack was his fourth of the season and 13 of the 11-year veteran s 18 career sacks have come in his two-and-a-half seasons with Carolina. Edwards also recorded an interception to increase his career total to three. Despite those statistics, the Panthers still ranked 24th in yardage allowed and 25th in points per contest as they prepare to face the Eagles offense, which is fourth in both total yardage and points scored. Along with Johnson and Edwards, much of the responsibility will fall on linebackers Luke Keuchly and Thomas Davis, who lead the team in tackles with 99 and 76, respectively. Like the offense, the defense has also been forced to rely on some first year players as Tre Boston started at safety against the Saints and second round pick Kony Ealy continued to see substantial playing time. We know we are playing a very good team in a very hard place to play, says Rivera, who served as an assistant with the Eagles five years. We have played some good football, but have not played it consistently. That cannot be the case if we are to win Monday night. OLSEN AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS Through nine games, tight end Greg Olsen is fourth among NFL tight ends with 45 receptions, second with 539 receiving yards and is tied for fifth at his position with five receiving touchdowns. Olsen's 45 receptions is a team best and he is tied with Kelvin Benjamin for the team lead in touchdowns. His 539 receiving yards are second on the team NFL RECEIVING YARDS LEADERS, TIGHT ENDS Player Rec. 5 GAME SUMMARY Carolina Panthers 30; Philadelphia Eagles 22 November 26, Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA Carolina quarterback Cam Newton accounted for four touchdowns and the Panthers defense forced three turnovers leading Carolina to a victory over Philadelphia on Monday Night Football. On Carolina s first drive, tight end Gary Barnidge put the Panthers ahead with a 24-yard touchdown catch the first of his five-year career. Following a Philadelphia three-and-out on the ensuing possession, Carolina needed just three plays and 43 seconds to find the end zone again. Newton hit wide receiver Brandon LaFell, who ran untouched for a 43-yard touchdown with 3:36 left in the opening quarter. Philadelphia kicker Alex Henery connected on a 41-yard field goal in the opening minute of the second quarter, cutting the Carolina lead to After the Panthers were forced to punt, Bryce Brown ran for a 65-yard touchdown. The Eagles looked to tie the game with a two-point try, but quarterback Nick Foles pass was incomplete. Henery later gave Philadelphia a onepoint advantage going into the half with a 45-yard field goal with 3:20 remaining in the second quarter. The Panthers received the ball to start the second half, and they took advantage. The Panthers marched 95 yards in 11 plays highlighted by a 55-yard completion to wide receiver Louis Murphy and Newton leapt across the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown on third-and-goal. Brown scored his second touchdown of the night moments later, but his second lost fumble late in the third quarter started a Panthers late-game flurry. Carolina took over at the Phiadelphia 45-yard line and newly-acquired kicker Graham Gano s 23-yard field goal gave the Panthers a lead with 12:43 to go. The Eagles drove to the Carolina 40-yard line on the ensuing possesion but failed to gain the single yard needed. The Panthers promptly converted the fourth down stop into points. Newton engineered a six-play, 60-yard drive that he culminated with his second rushing touchdown of the game a 2-yard score on a sneak with just under five minutes left. THE LAST TIME... 6 WOFFORD'S BERSIN MAKES HISTORY Wide receiver Brenton Bersin, a Charlotte, N.C. native, entered very select company this season after making the Panthers opening-day 53-man roster. The receiver joined Panthers owner Jerry Richardson as the only players in Wofford College history to make an NFL regular season roster. Richardson played his final NFL contest in 1960, and Bersin ended a nearly 54-year drought for the school. Brenton Bersin Bersin made his NFL debut in Week Two vs. Detroit (9/14/14), catching one pass for eight yards. He has played in eight games, earning his first career start in Week Eight vs. Seattle (10/26/14). He has nine catches for 104 yards and a touchdown on the season and has added three punt returns for 19 yards and five kickoff returns for 135 yards. His 49-yard kickoff return vs. Seattle (10/26/14) was the longest for the Jerry Richardson at Wofford Panthers since Kealoha Pilares' 76-yard return at Indianapolis (11/27/11). Bersin's 1-yard touchdown reception in Week Seven at Green Bay (10/19/14) is the first touchdown catch by a player from Wofford since Richardson had a touchdown as a member of the Baltimore Colts at Dallas (10/30/60). As a junior at Wofford in 2010, Bersin s nine touchdown catches tied the Wofford single-season record set by Richardson in Bersin, played four seasons at Wofford ( ), the 1,600-student school in Spartanburg, S.C., that has hosted the Panthers training camp for each of the team's 20 seasons. In his collegiate career, Bersin played in 46 games with 33 starts and totaled 77 catches for 1,567 yards and 15 touchdowns. Bersin earned a spot of the Panthers roster after a strong preseason in which he was the Panthers second-leading receiver, totaling seven catches for 117 yards a touchdown. Bersin spent last season on the Panthers practice squad and also attended training camp with the team as a rookie in WHAT TO LOOK FOR These players can reach the 100 career games played milestone in 2014: Thomas DeCoud (97), Ryan Kalil (96) and DeAngelo Williams (99). Colin Cole (107 games) reached the 100 games played milestone in Week One, Antoine Cason (105 games) reached the milestone in Week Four and Charles Johnson (102) reached the mark in Week Seven. With 13 games played in 2014, center Ryan Kalil would become the third offensive lineman in team history to play in 100 career games. With 16 starts in 2014, center Ryan Kalil would be the ninth player in Panthers history to start in 100 career games. With 178 tackles in 2014 linebacker Luke Kuechly will pass Chris Gamble (558 from ) for third most in Panthers history. In Week Seven at Green Bay (10/19/14), quarterback Cam Newton passed Steve Beuerlein (12,690 from ) for second all-time in passing yards. Newton also has the chance this season to pass Beuerlein for second in team history in attempts, completions and passing touchdowns. Newton needs 249 attempts, 160 completions, and 23 touchdowns this season to pass Beuerlein (1,723; 1,041; 86) in those categories. With one 300-yard passing game, Newton can tie Beurerlein (8) for the second-most 300-yard passing games in team history. In Week Six at Cincinnati (10/12/14), Cam Newton (2,222) passed Stephen Davis (2,085 from ) for fifth all-time in Panthers history. Newton needs 499 rushing yards this season to pass Tshimanga Biakabutuka (2,530 from ) for fourth all-time. Wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin has 40 catches for 589 yards and five touchdowns this season. He needs eight more receptions, 166 more yards and one more touchdown to pass Keary Colbert (47 for 754 and five in 2004) for the most by a rookie in Panthers history. Cornerback Antoine Cason will look to extend his streak of 105 consecutive games played, tied for the third-longest in the NFL among active cornerbacks. In Week Six at Cincinnati (10/12/14), Cason snared his second interception of the season, becoming one of two active players with multiple interceptions in each of their first seven seasons, joining DeAngelo Hall. In Week Six at Cincinnati (10/12/14), Greg Olsen (2,738) passed Mark Carrier (2,547 from ) for fourth all-time in team history. Olsen is 1,165 yards short of Wesley Walls (3,902 from ) for third in team history. With 10 sacks this season, defensive end Charles Johnson would become the second player in team history with doubledigit sacks in four or more seasons (Julius Peppers). With a sack in Week Six at Cincinnati (10/12/14), Johnson (58.0) passed Mike Rucker (55.5 from ) for the secondmost in team history. Wide receiver Brenton Bersin is the first player from Wofford Colelge (Spartanburg, S.C.) to play in the NFL since Panthers owner Jerry Richardson in 1960.

7 WILKS AT HOME IN CHARLOTTE When Steve Wilks was hired as secondary/pass defense coordinator prior to the 2012 season, it was a homecoming for the Charlotte native. In the 1980s Wilks starred at quarterback for West Charlotte and played collegiately at Appalachian State before spending one season with the Charlotte Rage of the Arena Football League in He began Steven Wilks his coaching career at Johnson C. Smith University in Following 11 years coaching on the college level, Wilks entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2006 when he joined Panthers head coach Ron Rivera in Chicago. With Rivera serving as defensive coordinator and Wilks leading the Bears secondary, Chicago won the NFC Championship and advanced to Super Bowl XLI. The two reunited in 2010 in San Diego, helping the Chargers lead the NFL in total defense and pass defense. Wilks has been an important part of the Panthers coaching staff. Last season, Wilks directed a unit that helped the Panthers finish second in the NFL in total defense and sixth in passing defense. Defensive backs were responsible for 16 of the team s 20 interceptions, including a team-record four returned for touchdowns. Carolina also limited opponents to an 81.4 passer rating, which ranked 10th in the NFL. Wilks (9) played quarterback at Wilks secondary received signifi cant con-westributions from rookies and veterans alike. Charlotte. Undrafted rookie cornerback Melvin White started the last 10 games and posted two interceptions with one touchdown, while safety Robert Lester, another undrafted rookie, tallied three interceptions. Mike Mitchell, who started 14 games at free safety after a season-ending injury to Charles Godfrey, was one of two players in the NFL with at least four interceptions, three sacks and two forced fumbles, and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn returned his only two interceptions for touchdowns. A FAMILIAR FACE Ricky Proehl spent 17 seasons as an NFL player, including three with the Carolina Panthers from In 2014, Proehl enters his fourth season as a member of the coaching staff, serving as wide receivers coach for the second consecutive season. In his career, Proehl played in 244 games with 110 starts for Phoenix/Arizona, St. Louis, Seattle, Chicago, Carolina and Ricky Proehl Indianapolis. Proehl was a member of four Super Bowl teams, including championship teams with the Rams and Colts. He finished his career with 669 catches for 8,878 yards and 54 touchdowns. Proehl caught a touchdown from 16 different players, secondmost in NFL history behind Irving Fryar (19). PLAYERS WHO THREW A TOUCHDOWN PASS TO RICKY PROEHL TDs Steve Beuerlein 10 Kurt Warner 8 Jake Delhomme 7 Erik Kramer 7 Timm Rosenbach 4 Chris Chandler 3 Trent Green 3 Steve Bono 2 Marc Bulger 2 Jay Schroeder 2 Tony Banks 1 John Friesz 1 Stan Gelbaugh 1 Rick Mirer 1 Tom Tupa 1 Chris Weinke 1 In three seasons with the Panthers, Proehl tallied 86 catches for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns and was a member of two playoff teams. He is responsible for one of the most well-known plays in franchise history when in the 2003 season opener vs. Jacksonville, his first game with Carolina, Proehl caught a 12-yard touchdown on fourth down with 16 seconds left to cap a comefrom-behind win and propel the Panthers on their Super Bowl run.

8 FAMILY TIES The Panthers coaching staff includes two members Mike Shula and Sam Mills III whose fathers are prominent football figures. Shula, the Panthers offensive coordinator, is the son of Don Shula, the NFL leader in career coaching victories with 347. Don Shula led the Miami Dolphins to two Super Bowl victories, including a perfect 17-0 season in He s an unbelievable sounding board, Mike said of his father, now 84. Whenever I ve had to ask tough questions, I ve always gone to him first because he s not going to give me the Mike Shula answer that I want to hear he s going to give me the answer that I need to hear. The Panthers assistant defensive line coach, Mills, is the son of former Panthers linebacker and linebackers coach Sam Mills, Jr., who lost an inspiring battle with cancer six years ago. A starting linebacker on the Panthers inaugural team in 1995, Sam Mills, Jr., propelled the Panthers to their first victory with an interception return for a touchdown against the New York Jets (10/15/95) and he is the only Sam Mills, III player in the team s Hall of Honor. He was a member of the team s coaching staff from It s an honor, especially around here with how he was able to touch people s lives, Mills III, said. I hope that I can live up to it. CANADIAN CONNECTION French-Canadian offensive tackle David Foucault (foo-koh), the fifth overall selection in the 2014 Canadian Football League Draft by the Montreal Alouettes, has played five games for the Panthers this season after making the team's 53-man roster following the preseason. He earned his first career start in Week Nine vs. New Orleans (10/30/14). The 6-foot-8-inch, 305-pound lineman David Foucault joined the Panthers as a free agent after participating in the team's rookie minicamp in May on a tryout basis. Foucault is the first player from the University of Montreal to make an NFL roster. He played four seasons for the Carabins, moving to the offensive line in 2011 after starting on the defensive line in Foucault played in the 2013 CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) East-West Bowl after helping the team average 6.0 yards per rush. In 2012, he opened holes in for the conference's leading rusher. Foucault is one of two rookies from Canadian colleges to make NFL active rosters, joining offensive guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif of McGill University who was a sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs. RODGERS AND THE PLAY Richard Rodgers is the Panthers special teams coordinator. More than thirty years ago, Rodgers was part of one of the most famous plays in college football history The Play The improbable five-lateral kickoff return for a touchdown allowed Rodgers California Golden Bears to defeat the John Elway-led Stanford Cardinal on the final Richard Rodgers play of the game between the two rivals in In addition to featuring five laterals, The Play also included an appearance by members of the Stanford band, who thinking the play had been blown dead, entered he field of play midway through the return.
