Main Tournament: A match will be structured as follows: Practice: 4 minutes per player. Match: (expected time: 1 hour 15 minutes) o This is the standard format for the UTS. Please visit for the complete set of rules and format (most of the rules and format are listed below). The only exception to the website is the one cue stick rule. Players are only allowed to use one cue stick during a shot (prop cues do not count). o Each match will consist of 6 shots selected by each player. o The winner of the match will get one point for the round robin. If the match results in a tie, both players will get ½ point. Categories o Players may select at most 2 shots from any skill category. Some shots belong to multiple categories. Details on categories will be discussed later. Props o Only approved props are allowed. Any other object that isn't approved may be used provided that it isn't hit or it doesn't have to 'do' anything. Props will be discussed later. For playoff rounds, the winning player will be determined as follows: o Whichever player has more points will win the match. If tied, players will move into sudden death. Players will lag for choice of who goes first. Players will play one inning of the UTS format, with each player selecting a shot and both players shooting each. In other words, player 1 will select a shot and both will shoot it. Then player 2 will select a shot and both players will shoot it. After this one inning sudden death, each player will either have 2, 1 or 0 points. If one player has won, the match is over. If they are still tied, another sudden death round will occur, switching the order of who goes first. If after the second sudden death inning the players are still tied, we will use the tie breaker shot as posted on the website, with players lagging again to determine the order. Shot category limits will be reset. Players may select any shot from any category. If a second sudden death shot is needed, players may not repeat a shot category. Shot Clock o When a match begins, a timer will start. The UTS phase should last approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. If after 40 minutes, a match has not completed 6 of the 12 shots, both players will be placed on a shot clock and receive only 2 attempts per shot. The shot clock will be 90 seconds for the first attempt and 60 seconds for the second attempt. Time will start when it is the player's turn at the table. Once the shot clock has expired, the player's setup must be complete. If not, they lose that attempt.

Round Robin Format o The Draw The number of flights and the number of players in each will be determined based on the number of entrants The top players (based on the number of entrants) will be seeded. o Match Times See the chart below All players are obligated to be the referee at least once during the event, possibly twice. No new player will be alone -- they will always have a veteran player helping them referee the matches. o Scoring During Each Match Once a match is clinched, it is over. Play should not continue. Please leave the score sheet blank for all shots not attempted. For example, if a player selects a shot and makes it to win a match, do not mark down a '0' for the opponent if they did not actually shoot the shot. If you do, it will look like a missed attempt and count against that player in their percentage of shots made. o Advancing To Playoffs The top players from each flight will advance to the playoffs. The exact number will be based on the number of players in the event. We will use a standard single elimination chart, with standard seeding (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc). Players will be seeded based on the number of players and flights. Seeding Criteria 1: Win / Loss record 2: Head to head results 3: Best make percentage 4: Random selection

Trophies / Awards / Prize Money The entry fee is $300. There will be some expenses incurred. This will be taken out of the main event. We do not expect the expenses to exceed $300. There is no added money at this time. There may be some added money announced as we get closer to the event. Only players advancing to the playoffs will receive prize money (but not guaranteed that everyone in the playoffs will get prize money). Trophies / Awards o Trophies will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd, and both 3 rd place positions. o There will be medals for the main event awarded as follows: Best UTS make percentage (round robin phase only -- not including playoffs) Sportsman -- by vote of players Most Creative Shot -- by vote of the players Dress Code o Slacks o Collared shirt (short sleeve okay) o Belt o Dress socks and dress shoes

Match Format Lag for option Alternate shots Select any shot Explain it to your opponent, but you don't need to explain every little detail. We are on the honor system. Unless otherwise specified: o If blocker balls or objects are on the table, it is assumed they cannot be hit. o If you are jumping over something, it is assumed it cannot be hit. o If multiple balls are being hit, it is assumed none can be disturbed. Explain it to the crowd (don't do a long performance). Three attempts per shot - one point if successful. Don't pick shots that require very long and detailed setups. Don't pick shots that take a very long time to execute. o Help your opponent setup the shot. You don't have to align the balls, but you must help out with the general area. Props o You are responsible for bringing your own props. You may borrow from other players, but try to have all of your props before starting a match. o Approved Props Racks, sticks, bridges, chalk, stacking balls Coin wrappers: Only used for balancing balls. The coin wrapper cannot be required to 'do' something. Also, must be a standard wrapper, not home-made. You may cut a coin wrapper to make it shorter. Connected balls may not be used (except as a non-standard prop). Ball trays: May only be used as a rail. You cannot require the tray to 'do' something or have the balls in the tray 'do' something. It must be a standard ball tray, not a custom item. Coin: May only be used by balancing on top of a ball and determining if the ball moved or not (i.e. the coin must fall or may not fall). The coin may not 'do' something else. o Non-Standard Props Any object may be used as a non-standard prop. The prop may not have anything to do with the shot. You may use a cup or block of wood to prop up a rack or make a high bar to shoot over, but non-standard props may not be hit by any means. o All props must be stationary. o Props may not be glass. Props may not contain liquid or anything else that can spill and create a mess (sugar, sand, etc).

Players may not continuously setup and repeat a shot. If you want to perform a shot multiple times, it must all be setup before the shot begins. o Exception: Wing shots. o Any shot performed multiple times (including wing shots), must all be made. Players may not say you need to make 2 out of 3. Silicone is allowed, but players must use their own standard cue ball. Players may not knock down or move props once the shot is complete. If a player alters their cue (e.g. extension), they must allow their opponent to use it. Break Cloth o Players MUST use a break cloth for all masse shots. o Players SHOULD use a break cloth for any jump shots that have a chance of damaging the cloth, using their own judgment as to whether it is necessary. Error on the side of caution as players may be responsible if they damage the table. o The opponent may elect to use a break cloth, whether the selecting player used one or not. o Players are responsible for bringing their own break cloths. Duplicate Shots o Players may repeat shots from match to match. o Players may not repeat a shot, or pick a shot that is almost exactly the same within the same match.

Skill Categories: o Juggle The cue stick is hitting a moving ball. o Wing You are hitting a ball into a moving ball. o Speed Any shot that cannot be done at the player's leisure. Exception: Juggling shots are not speed shots (unless you are juggling more than 3 balls). Wing shots are not speed shots. However, a juggling or wing shot that also requires something else to be done 'before' the next juggle or wing shot, then it is a speed shot. o Stroke The use of extreme spin o Masse Vertical (or near vertical) shooting. Use common sense to distinguish between stroke and masse. o Jump Shooting a ball, unaided, over any obstacle. Jumping off a rail or off of another ball does not count as a jump shot. o Opposite Hand Any shot requiring the use of the player's opposite hand. o One-Handed Any shot requiring the player to perform part of it with one hand. Stopwatch o Unless otherwise specified, it is hit-to-hit. o Minimum of 2 seconds per ball hit. Do not pick shots where a ball could fly off the table at high speeds -- remember that your opponent will need to shoot it. Any ball off the table is a missed attempt. You may not specify how the cue stick must be held. You are allowed to specify one handed or two handed. You may not specify how the player's body must be positioned (must or can't touch the table, must put your leg up on the rail, etc). You may not select shots that require the player to twist or balance. No standing on one leg, shooting behind the back, under the knee, behind the neck, etc. We cannot cover all possible cases. Everyone is on the honor system. Do not try to find a loophole. If there is a question on a shot, ask now.
