RECEIVING VOTES: The University of San Diego women's basketball team has received votes in the Associated Press top-25 poll this week. This is the first time this season that USD has received votes, and it is the first time San Diego has received votes since being ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press poll back on January 6, LAST TIME OUT: Behind the best team effort of the season, and a huge run in the third quarter, the University of San Diego women s basketball team knocked off the defending West Coast Conference champions Gonzaga University, 63-54, Saturday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. After the Zags managed to take a 3-point lead into the halftime break, the Toreros came storming back in the third quarter, sparked by spirited play from Maya Hood. The quarter began with Maya Hood stealing the ball, then driving the length of the court and scoring a lay-up, which sparked a 15-4 Torero run, giving San Diego all the momentum. In this frame, USD shot an impressive 71.4% (10-for-14), while the Zags shot a dismal 5-of-18 (27.8%), and all of this despite the Zags out rebounding the Toreros USD never looked back, as they led for the remainder of the game. Both Katherine Hamilton and Malina Hood scored a team-best 14 points, with Malina Hood recording five steals and Hamilton shooting 6-for-11 from the field. Caroline Buhr was the third Torero in double figures, as she tied a career-high with 10 points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field. Maya Hood also had a dominate performance, as she scored eight points, had six rebounds and three steals. As a team, USD shot 46.0% from the field, while the Zags were held to 35.6% shooting. GU out rebounded the Toreros 54-19, but USD recorded 16 steals, while forcing the Bulldogs into 22 turnovers. USD only committed 10 turnovers. For the Bulldogs, Jill Barta came off the bench and scored 15 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the field. Both Kiara Kudron and Shelby Cheslik led the rebounding effort at 12 apiece.

The Waves are currently riding a 39-31, PEP five-game losing streak. Pepperdine does lead the all-time series at 39-31, but USD has won the last nine meetings. Pepperdine is paced offensively by freshman guard Erica Ogwumike, who is averaging 16.9 ppg, and is pulling down 7.2 rebounds-per-game. Two other starters are averaging nearly double-digits in sophomore forward Olivia Ogwumike (9.6 ppg) and junior guard Allie Green (9.4 ppg). PEPPERDINE: Behind another double-double from senior forward Sophia Ederaine, the University of San Diego women's basketball team cruised to a win over Pepperdine University on February 7, 2015 in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. With the win, the Toreros had then won four in a row, as they improved to 19-4 overall, moved to 10-3 in the WCC, and moved into sole possession of third place in the WCC. With the loss, the Waves fell to 6-18 overall, and fell to 1-12 in the WCC. Pepperdine had then run its losing streak to 12 with this loss. Ederaine recorded her third consecutive, and 10th double-double of the season, as she scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, and pulled down 11 rebounds, while also recording five blocked shots. Malina Hood was the only other Torero in double figures, as she scored 11, on 4-of-10 shooting from the field, while also picking up a pair of blocked shots. Both Katelyn McDaniel and Aubrey Ward-El each chipped in with nine points apiece. As a team, USD sot 40% from the field and out rebounded the Waves, For the Waves, Bria Richardson led the way, as she scored a game-high 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, and had four rebounds. Ea Shoushtari was the only other Wave in double figures with 13 on 6-of-15 shooting, while pulling down a team-best eight rebounds. As a team, Pepperdine shot 40.4% from the field, while also committing 17 turnovers. For a second consecutive game, USD led from wire to wire, as a Hood 3-pointer sparked an 8-2 Torero run over the first 4:45 of action. Pepperdine would then respond with a 6-3 run to cut the deficit to three with 14:13 to go. However, this is as close as the Waves would get, as USD used a 17-4 run to take complete control of the momentum, and took a commanding lead with 5:13 to go. USD never looked back, as they would eventually lead by as many as 27 with 7:28 to go in the second half. USD then settled for the 17-point final margin.

3 San Diego Weekly Release Torero Notes notes ABOUT THE RECORD: San Diego enters Thursday's game with an overall record of 16-2, which ties the best start in program history with the season. The team also became USD's first, and only, team to ever receive a national ranking, coming in at No. 24 on January 6, RECORD WATCH: Malina Hood has moved up the career scorers list at USD with 1,448 total points, good for fifth all-time. She now needs 62 more to move into fourth all-time. Hood has also made 40 three-pointers this season, moving her career total to 205, making her the all-time leader in career 3-pointers made at USD. Maya Hood is also making her way up the scoring charts, and is now just 67 points shy of cracking 1,000 herself. STRANGE TREND: San Diego has now been involved with a lopsided quarter for six consecutive games. The streak began back on Dec. 31, in a win over Pacific, the Toreros outscored the Tigers 22-6 in the third quarter to pull away and claim a win. Then on Jan. 2, USD was outscored by Saint Mary's 20-8 in the third quarter, which resulted in a USD loss. San Diego then went on the road to USF, and was out scored but the Dons 20-9 in the second quarter, but USD wound up winning this contest. The trend resumed at Santa Clara on Jan. 9, as USD used a 20-8 third quarter run to pull away from the Broncos and claim a win. Then USD hosted Portland and outscored the Pilots in the first quarter en route to a rout of the Pilots. San Diego then outscored the defending WCC champion Gonzaga Bulldogs with a run in the third quarter en route to a victory. RPI UPDATE: As of Monday morning, USD's RPI has moved up to No. 62, after starting off WCC play with a 6-1 record, including an impressive win over BYU, who currently carries the No. 12 RPI in the county. Saint Mary's is also a top-50 RPI team at No. 47, while Gonzaga checks in at No. 72, and Santa Clara has an RPI of 73. SLAYING THE BEAST: With USD's upset win over defending WCC champion Gonzaga Bulldogs on Thursday, USD has now won backto-back games against the Zags for the first time since a seasonsweep back in Since the season, USD had losing streaks of 12 games, and 15 games to the Zags, who have won 11 consecutive WCC regular season titles. This win also gave GU its second consecutive WCC loss, and moved the Bulldogs into a tie for second place in the league standings, while USD remains in a 2-way tie for first place with BYU. INSIDE THE NUMBERS: San Diego as a team is currently shooting 76.1% from the free throw line. Across the nation, USD currently ranks 13th best from the charity stripe. In the WCC, the Toreros as a team, are leading the league in free throw percentage, scoring margin (+13.6)...USD is raked No. 2 in offensive rebounds per game (15.4)...USD is third in scoring defense (57.8), and scoring offense at 71.4 ppg. The Bulldogs received six first place votes and 78 points. BYU was picked to finish second, just two points behind the Zags, while Saint Mary's rounded off the top three with 61 votes. The Toreros of San Diego came in fourth with 58 votes, followed by San Francisco (51), Pacific (40), Santa Clara (30), Loyola Marymount (25), Pepperdine (20) and Portland (11). THAT'S FOUR STRAIGHT: With USD's thrilling win over Pacific on February 13, 2015 the Toreros had recorded their 20th win for a fourth consecutive season. Never before in program history, had USD posted four consecutive 20-win seasons. This was the fifth 20-win season in program history, and all of them have come under the watchful eye of head coach Cindy Fisher. All of the 20-win teams have gone on to play in the postseason, highlighted by the team that made it to the Final Four of the WNIT, led by the program's all-time leading scorer, Dominique Conners. Last season's squad made it to the second round of the WNIT, but fell to eventual WNIT champion UCLA. MALINA TABBED PRESEASON ALL-WCC : Senior guard Malina Hood represented the Toreros on the preseason All-WCC team for the second consecutive year. Hood led USD in scoring last year with 15.5 points per game, scoring in double-digits in 21 of her 26 games. She broke her own school record for three-pointers made in a season with 77. THEW.TV: This season San Diego will be featured on the West Coast Conference's digital platform, several times. All of these home productions will have a multi-camera high definition broadcast with Paula Bott calling all the live play-by-play, and providing color commentary, will be Torero Hall of Famer Susie (Erpelding) Barosso. 5 HEAD COACH CINDY FISHER FISHER COACHING RECORD Cindy Fisher was named the University of San Diego head women's basketball coach on April 19, In her 10th year in charge of the Torero women's basketball program, coach Fisher led USD to an unprecedented fourth consecutive 20-win season, as USD posted a 25-7 overall record, finished second in the WCC at 14-4 and USD made its fourth consecutive trip to the WNIT. USD managed to secure a pair of home postseason games, defeating Long Beach State in the first round, before losing to eventual WNIT champions UCLA in round two. Along the way, Fisher helped guide Sophia Ederaine to the WCC Defensive Player of the Year, as the senior forward led the nation in blocked shots with 152. This blocked shots mark also broke a 22-year old single-season blocked shots record at USD. Ederaine was the first Torero to win the league's Defensive Player of the Year distinction. Under her tutelage, the senior class was able to graduate with an overall four-year mark of In her ninth year at the helm of the Torero women's basketball program, Fisher helped lead USD to an overall record of 24-9, the second most wins in program history, and reached the Sweet 16 round of the WNIT for the second time in three years. USD opened the season with a perfect 15-0 record, which led to the programs fist-ever national ranking of No. 24 in both the Associate Press and Coaches top-25 polls. The 15-0 start was the best not only in program history, but for any athletic team at USD in the division I era. The WNIT appearance marked the first time in program history that USD has made three consecutive postseason appearances. Under the watchful eye of head coach Cindy Fisher, the Toreros had three players take home All-WCC honors, highlighted by first-teamer Amy Kame. In her eighth season at the helm of the program in , Cindy Fisher managed to do something no other coach in the history of the program had done before, the Toreros posted a second consecutive 20- win season. USD posted an overall record of 22-10, the second most wins in program history, and reached the second round of the WNIT. USD also had a 12-4 mark in the WCC, good for sole possession of second place in the West Coast Conference, and San Diego managed to reach the championship game of the WCC Tournament. This marked only the second time in program history that USD has made back-to-back postseason appearances, and both times have come under the watchful eye of Cindy Fisher. USD did all of this despite losing a pair of 1,000-point scorers, and the team's leading rebounder from the previous season's record setting team. Under coach Fisher's tutelage, the Toreros produced the WCC Freshman of the Year in Maya Hood, and had three total players earn All-WCC honors, highlighted by first-teamer Amy Kame. The season was a historical one for the Toreros, as it is now the greatest season in program history. Under Fisher's tutelage, the Toreros soared to new heights, and were in uncharted waters. USD posted a program best 26-9 overall record, posted a 12-4 mark in WCC play (the most wins in WCC play in program history) and they recorded the program's first ever post season win. Not only was it the first ever post season win, but the Toreros advanced all the way to the Final Four of the WNIT, before falling to eventual WNIT champions Oklahoma State. With Fisher's guidance, USD saw Dominique Conners become the program's all-time leading scorer, as well as earn first-team All-WCC honors along with Morgan Woodrow. USD also saw Amy Kame take home All-WCC honorable mention accolades as well. Needless to say, this was USD's most exciting season in program history! In the season, Cindy Fisher had the team playing at its best basketball at the right time of year, as USD had an impressive run through the West Coast Conference Championships, winning two games in two days to advance to the semifinal game of the Championships against WCC-runner-up Saint Mary's. The Toreros then nearly pulled off of a third straight victory to make the championship game, but a last second shot fell just short, which ended USD's season. Under Cindy Fisher's tutelage, both Sam Child and Dominique Conners earned All-WCC accolades, and Sam Child was named to the All-WCC Tournament team. In her fifth season, Cindy Fisher once again had her team playing its best at the right time of the season, as the Toreros had an unprecedented run in the WCC championships, winning three games in three days to reach the championship game for the second time in as many years. The Toreros produced three players to the All-WCC team and Dominique Conners was the lone freshman named to the All-WCC Tournament team. In her third season at the helm of the program, she guided the Toreros back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years. The season also marks back-to-back post season appearances for the Toreros under Fisher's watch. Fisher helped lead USD to a overall record and a West Coast Conference Tournament championship. She helped guide three players to All-WCC honors, with Amanda Rego and Amber Sprague each earning first-team honors and Sam Child being selected to the All-WCC freshman team. In only her second season at the helm of the program, Cindy Fisher orchestrated the biggest turn around in school history, a 12-game improvement from 9-19 in the season to a 21-9 record in season. The turn around was the fourth best in the nation. USD has set a lot of records along the way as they have recorded the first-ever 20-win season in program history, finished second place in the West Coast Conference for the first time in program history and had the best overall start in program history at 6-0 and in conference play at 6-0. Under her tutelage, the Toreros placed three players on the All-WCC lists highlighted by Amanda Rego being named the WCC Co-Player of the Year. Rego and Amber Sprague both took home first-team All-WCC honors and Morgan Henderson was named to the All- WCC Freshman team. For her efforts,fisher was named the 2007 WCC Co-Coach of the Year. During her first season at USD, the Toreros showed remarkable improvement. The Toreros did record a huge 15-point win over Santa Clara on the road and were close in games against Georgia Tech, Boise State and against Loyola Marymount in the first round of the WCC Championship Tournament. Fisher also helped guide Tiara Harris to an All-WCC selection and Kelly Winther to an All-WCC Freshman team selection. Fisher, the University of Nebraska's top assistant for two seasons, and former head coach for Wyoming between , became USD's third head coach dating back to the program's inception in She took over for Kathy Marpe who stepped down after directing the program for 25 years. The Huskers recorded the program's first win over a top-5 team with its victory over eventual NCAA National Champion, Baylor, in January of They also posted Big 12 wins over No. 14 Iowa State and Oklahoma, both NCAA Tournament participants. Fisher recruited and coached Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Jelena Spiric, and recruited and developed post player, Danielle Page, who earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors twice. Fisher's final recruiting class at Nebraska might have been her best, as she went deep into Alaska to find, recruit, and sign Big Twelve Player of the Year and first round draft pick Kelsey Griffin. During the campaign, the Huskers finished overall, and produced one of the top 10 turnarounds in NCAA Division I women's basketball with 10 more victories. The team earned two wins over top 25 teams; the team cracked the top-25 national rankings for the first time since 1999; and the 2004 recruiting class was ranked 28th nationally. In five seasons as the head coach at Wyoming, Cindy Fisher compiled a record. However, Fisher's accomplishments at Wyoming go well beyond her overall coaching record. Her team at Wyoming finished No. 1 in the country in academic excellence with a team GPA of Before taking the job at Wyoming, Cindy Fisher spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Old Dominion. She served as the Lady Monarchs' recruiting coordinator and scheduling coordinator and prepared scouting reports, while also acting as the team's public relations liaison. During her three-year stint, ODU compiled a 92-8 record, including a 34-win season and a pair of 29-win seasons. Old Dominion advanced to the national championship game in 1997, and qualified for the Sweet 16 in each of her three seasons. Fisher also built up her coaching resume with stops at Weber State ( ), Mesa CC in Arizona ( ; ), and Illinois State ( ; graduate assistant, ). From Cheyenne, Wyoming, Cindy Fisher was a three-year starter at Cheyenne Central High School, before competing at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington. Her career was cut short by a hip injury, but she earned her associate's degree in She transferred to Arizona State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology in After graduation, she served as a physical education instructor at Mesa Community College from 1988 to 1990, before completing her Master's Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Administration of Sport at Illinois State in 1992.
