His offensive outputs during those four seasons included tremendous gains in both the running and the passing game. During his tenure with the 49ers, the team led the NFL in rushing in consecutive seasons ( ), grounding out 2,085 yards (130.0 avg./gm) in 99 and a team-record 2,544 yards (159.0 avg./gm) in 98. During the 1998 season, San Francisco led the league in rushing, gross passing yards, total offense and first downs, as they accumulated the second-highest all-time offensive output in league history. The unit became the first offense to lead the league in both gross passing and rushing yards since the Chicago Bears accomplished that feat in Prior to joining the 49ers coaching staff, he spent two seasons with the Green Bay Packers from He was the Packers offensive assistant/quality control coach in 1995, and was quarterbacks coach in 1996 as the team went on to win Super Bowl XXXI. Before joining the pro ranks, Mornhinweg served as the offensive coordinator for Northern Arizona (1994). He prepped at Oak Grove H.S. and played for Mike Holmgren, who was the school s offensive coordinator. BUTCH DAVIS Butch Davis (0-1 career record) was named head coach of the Browns on January 30, 2001 after serving the previous six seasons as head coach at the University of Miami. Davis took over a Miami program that had been saddled with NCAA sanctions and stripped of 31 scholarships and returned it to national prominence. Davis posted a record during his time in Miami and helped the Hurricanes post a 4-0 bowl record, claim three Big East titles and finish in the top 20 in five of his six seasons. Miami posted an 11-1 record in 2000 and finished the season with a consensus No. 2 national ranking. Prior to joining the Hurricanes, Davis coached six seasons ( ) with the Dallas Cowboys including the final two as the club s defensive coordinator. Davis helped Dallas post one of the most spectacular turnarounds in sports history as the Cowboys went from a 1-15 season in 1989 to consecutive Super Bowl championships in 1992 and Davis was defensive line coach in the Cowboys win over Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVII and served as defensive coordinator in the Cowboys win over Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVIII. Davis entered the collegiate coaching ranks on the offensive side of the ball as an assistant under Jimmy Johnson at Oklahoma State from , marking the initial stage of 15 consecutive years he would work with Johnson. Davis coached receivers and tight ends at Oklahoma State while also serving as recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining Oklahoma State, Davis was head

2 coach at Rogers High School in Tulsa, Okla., in 1978 after spending time as an assistant at two high schools in Oklahoma and one in Arkansas where he taught biology, anatomy and physiology. Davis played defensive end for Arkansas under Head Coach Frank Broyles and earned his bachelor s degree in biology and life science in LAST GAME DETROIT 6, GREEN BAY 28; SEPTEMBER 9, 2001; LAMBEAU FIELD The Detroit Lions opened the 2001 regular season with a 28-6 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Packers jumped out to an early 21-3 first quarter lead and the Lions never recovered. With a consistent rainfall throughout the game, the Lions were hit early with big plays. After holding the Lions to a three-and-out series to begin the game, the Packers wasted no time putting points on the scoreboard. QB Brett Favre hit WR Bill Schroeder on the team s opening play for 34 yards, and three plays later, RB Ahman Green galloped 31 yards to give the Packers a 7-0 lead. The Lions showed signs of offensive firepower as it drove to the Packers 35-yard line, but was denied on third and fourth down, which gave the ball back to the Packers. Favre hit Schroeder on back-to-back plays, a 35-yard completion and a 23-yard touchdown, to give the Packers a 14-0 lead. After a second three-and-out series by the Lions offense, the Packers needed only one play to increase their lead to 21-0, as Green fended off several tacklers, bounced outside and sprinted 83 yards for his second touchdown of the game. The Lions first points of the day came as K Jason Hanson nailed a 49-yard field goal. Midway through the second quarter, Hanson booted his second field goal (39 yards), which moved the scoreboard to DE Robert Porcher s sack of Favre late in the second quarter sent him into a tie for first-place (Al Bubba Baker, ) on the Lions all-time quarterback sack list with The Lions defense forced a turnover with 2:05 remaining in the half when LB Chris Claiborne and DT Kelvin Pritchett hit Green at the line of scrimmage, forcing him to fumble, and CB Lamar Campbell recovered. The Lions turned the potential momentum-changing play into a 41-yard drive to the Packers 11-yard line before Batch s pass intended for WR Herman Moore in the endzone was intercepted by S Darren Sharper. The last score of the game came midway through the third quarter when the Packers put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive that chewed 11:05 off the clock. The drive resulted in seven points, as Favre found TE Bubba Franks in the corner of the endzone for a 1-yard TD. 3 FROM THE LIONS DEN HEAD COACH MARTY MORNHINWEG On moving forward following last week s tragedies: We feel like we are doing the right thing by moving on as a team, as a league and as a country. It s important to get back to normal, but normal is going to be different because we will always remember this national tragedy for the rest of our lives. We will pick ourselves up, dust our knees off and walk shoulder pad-to-shoulder pad to move forward. It will be good for everybody on our team, yet we will not forget this. We have trust in our leaders and we have trust in the President of the United States to do the right thing, and we feel like we are doing the right thing by marching on. On his thoughts of the team's first regular season game against the Packers two weeks ago: I was very surprised at how we started that game. In this league, it's not where you start, but where you finish and that's exactly what I told the team after the game. By all accounts, we can get better in every phase. We are going to do whatever it takes to get this team better." On playing the Cleveland Browns: This is a very crucial game for our club. Butch Davis will have a solid defense and we need to be prepared for everything. Anytime you play a coach that is new, it makes things even more difficult and unpredictable. THE LIONS-BROWNS SERIES The Lions hold a commanding 12-3 series lead over the Browns, dating back to the clubs initial meeting in Four additional match-ups came in NFL Championship Games in the 1950 s ( and 57) with the Lions winning in and 57. The last time the two teams squared off in Cleveland Stadium was in 1986, resulting in a Browns win. THE LAST TIME Detroit 38, Cleveland 20 Pontiac Silverdome; October 8, 1995 Detroit's quick-striking offense and hard-nosed defense led to a victory. Barry Sanders' 11-yard run opened the scoring and was again followed by a 75-yard touchdown run. Detroit led 24-3 at halftime as Brett Perriman hauled in the first of his two TD grabs and Jason Hanson boomed a franchise-record 56-yard field goal. Sanders' third TD run of the game made the score Vinny Testaverde hit Michael Jackson from 17 yards out to pull the Browns to within 31-10, but another Mitchell-to-Perriman connection followed. A Matt Stover 38-yard field goal and Walter Reeves one-yard TD catch in the final minute closed the scoring. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME HIGHLIGHTS December 28, 1952 (NFL Championship Game) - The Detroit Lions claimed their first NFL title in 17 years with a 17-7 win over the Browns. The Lions scored the first touchdown of the game on a two-yard run by Bobby Layne and extended the lead to 14-0 in the third quarter on a 67-yard scamper by Doak Walker. Detroit was outgained in total yardage by 151 yards and had 12 fewer first downs, but the Detroit defense stiffened at crucial times; The Lions came up with four important goal line stands. Layne attempted only nine passes, all coming in the fourth quarter. To pick up the slack, the Lions rushed for 199 yards with 97 yards coming from Walker. Detroit capped the title game win with a 36-yard field goal by Pat Harder. December 27, 1953 (NFL Championship Game) - The game evolved into a defensive struggle as 20 of the 33 points scored in the game were direct results of turnovers. The mistakes began when Otto Graham fumbled on his own 13-yard line, the Lions capitalized on a one-yard touchdown run by Doak Walker. Although Graham completed only two of his 15 attempts, the Browns managed to hold a lead with less than five minutes to play. Then, Detroit quarterback Bobby Layne put together an impressive drive that culminated with a 33-yard touchdown toss to Jim Doran. The victory provided the Lions with their second consecutive title. December 26, 1954 (NFL Championship Game) - The game began on a good note for Detroit as Cleveland quarterback Otto Graham turned the ball over on an interception. But, the Lions could only manage a field goal after the turnover and the rest of the afternoon was all Cleveland. Graham bounced back from the early interception to pass for three touchdowns and run for another three touchdowns as the Browns captured the World's Championship with a win. Lions' quarterback Bobby Layne had a horrible day as he threw for six interceptions. December 29, 1957 (NFL Championship Game) - Tobin Rote, playing for injured QB Bobby Layne, directed a relentless offensive attack as the Lions posted a 31-7 halftime lead and coasted to their fourth NFL title. The highlight of the day came on a 78-yard bomb from Rote to Jim Doran that gave the Lions a lead. Detroit went on to win 59-14, the second biggest title win ever. LIONS AT A GLANCE LIONS OFFENSE OFFENSIVE LINE: The Detroit Lions' offensive line went through major changes this off-season Only two players from last year's front five started all 16 games in 2000 (G Jeff Hartings and C Mike Compton) and both players left via free agency Ten-year veteran Ray Roberts, who started ten games at both tackle positions last season, retired With those changes, only four players remain from the 2000 squad that had starting experience, including: C Eric Beverly, G Kerlin Blaise, G Tony Semple, T Aaron Gibson and G Stockar McDougle The Lions emphasized the selection of offensive linemen in the draft The team's top two selections, T Jeff Backus from Michigan and C Dominic Raiola from Nebraska, should prove to be a pillar of strength and stability for years to come Beverly fought off Raiola for the starting center position and provides athleticism to a key position along the front McDougle has made the transition from left tackle to left guard, and uses his strength and quickness to get a push off the ball Semple is the backup guard on the left side One of the key acquisitions made by the Lions in the off-season was the signing of free agent G Brenden Stai Stai, a six-year NFL veteran who spent his first five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and 2000 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is settling into the starting right guard slot Fourth-year G Kerlin Blaise adds depth to the right guard position Backus, the team's 2001 first-round draft choice, has been impressive since joining the Lions and starts at the left tackle position, while the team's 1999 first-found draft choice T Aaron Gibson is on the right side Eight-year veteran T Matt Joyce, who was signed in the off-season, backs up both tackle positions. TIGHT END: 1999 Pro Bowl David Sloan suffered a broken left hand early in training camp, however he has returned to the starting lineup Sloan, who served as an alternate for the 2000 Pro Bowl team, has both the size and speed to a lethal target down the middle The Lions added talented depth to the tight end position in the off-season after signing seven-year veteran Pete Mitchell Mitchell, who has exceptional hands, will be used mainly during passing situations Brad Banta, an eightyear NFL veteran, was signed during the off-season and is used primarily as the long snapper on special teams. WIDE RECEIVER: The wide receiving corps is loaded with talent and should prosper under the new West Coast offense Herman Moore, who owns virtually every receiving record in Lions' history, restructured his contract during the off-season and started in the Lions season opener Moore was slowed during training camp after suffering a separated left shoulder, but has fully recovered Veteran Johnnie Morton has been the Lions' most consistent receiver in recent years and his speed and PAGE 4 OF 18

5 pass-catching ability is again proving to be a significant asset for the Lions' offensive unit, as he gained 111 yards on five catches in the 2001 opener Germane Crowell, who was also slowed during the preseason due to swelling in his knee, has returned to the passing mix Crowell's speed, size and his ability to haul down a ball in traffic and will help stretch the defense Nine of Crowell s 13 career receiving TD s have been for 25 yards or more Desmond Howard, who acted as both the kick and punt return specialist for the 2000 season, is seeing more action at the receiver position Second-year receiver Larry Foster showed big-play ability during last year's regular season, but a knee injury has sidelined him for the beginning of the season 2001 fifth-round draft choice Scotty Anderson has looked very impressive at various times during training camp, but was de-activated for the season opener. RUNNING BACK: RB James Stewart, who was voted as the team's offensive MVP in 2000, returns for his second season with the Lions Stewart's hard north-south running style should prove to again be very effective in the new West Coast offense Not only can he carry the load, but Mornhinweg has been very impressed with Stewart's ability to catch the football out of the backfield Veteran RB Lamont Warren made his presence felt during the preseason as he showcased both his running and pass-catching ability Warren serves as a third-down back and spells Stewart when needed RB De Mond Parker was signed Sept. 12 to provide additional speed to the back-up running back spot Seven-year veteran FB Cory Schlesinger is the team's bruising lead blocker Schlesinger, who signed a four-year contract extension in the off-season, has the capability of catching the ball out of the backfield Also at fullback is Brock Olivo, who contributes heavily on special teams, and Stephen Trejo, one of two 2001 undrafted rookie free agents to make the Lions opening day 53-man roster. QUARTERBACK: After being acquired via trade Sept.2 from Cleveland, Ty Detmer has moved into the starting spot Mornhinweg sought his services because of his vast knowledge of the West Coast offense, having played in the offensive system in seven of the first nine years of his career Detmer was a backup QB in 1995 with Green Bay and for San Francisco in 1998 while Mornhinweg was an assistant on those respective staffs Charlie Batch will back up Detmer as he continues to adjust to the new offense Batch started the season opener at Green Bay Third-string Mike McMahon proved his athletic ability during the preseason The fifth-round pick from Rutgers beat out former third-stringer Cory Sauter in preseason. LIONS DEFENSE DEFENSIVE LINE: The Lions possess one of the deepest defensive line rotations in the NFL Two-time Pro Bowl DE Robert Porcher collected one sack in the season opener to tie the Lions career record for quarterback sacks with Al "Bubba" Baker (75.5) He is joined by 10-year veteran DE Tracy Scroggins on the right side Scroggins' 58.5 career sacks places him only a half-a-sack behind Doug English for fifth place on the Lions' all-time sack list The interior has undergone a change with the emergence of rookie DT Shaun Rogers (selected in second round by the Lions), who has progressed quickly and earned a starting role Luther Elliss is expected to return to the starting lineup as he is recovering from elbow surgery performed during training camp Elliss saw action in passing situations in the Lions opener Both are backed up by Travis Kirschke (who started last week at Green Bay) and Kelvin Prtichett, who has played very well thus far in 2001 Off-season acquisition DE Alonzo Spellman has the speed to play on the outside, but also has the bulk and muscle to play on the inside DE James Hall has emerged as a force to be reckoned with on the outside, as his speed and quickness allow the Lions to move him around on defense DT James Jones, who was a starter in 1999 and 2000, was released one day prior to the 2001 season opener. LINEBACKER: The linebacking corps is a well-rounded, productive unit with Chris Claiborne on the right side and Allen Aldridge on the left side In the middle resides two-time Pro Bowler Stephen Boyd, the defensive catalyst who owns four of the top five single-season tackle tallies in club history Boyd's seek-and-destroy mentality has helped him top the team in tackles for the past four consecutive seasons Veteran Scott Kowalkowski has not only been productive as a backup linebacker for Boyd, but is a consistent special teams contributor Nickel backers Barrett Green (second-round pick in 2000) and Clint Kriewaldt both have the speed to cover and the knack for the ball to lay a big hit. DEFENSIVE SECONDARY: The Lions have a very talented secondary, though they have been battling injuries in the early going The secondary has been hit hard with injuries stemming from last year and is the 2001 preseason CB Bryant Westbrook, who was playing at a Pro Bowl level until rupturing his Achilles tendon last year at Minnesota (Nov. 30, 2000), began practicing last week He is progressing well and the team hopes to have him back on the field within the first quarter of the season In his place is free agent acquisition CB Todd Lyght Lyght brings with him 10 years of experience from the Rams organization At the left cornerback position is the consistent veteran Terry Fair Both CB Jimmy Wyrick and CB Robert Bailey add depth to the cornerback position and will see time in the team's nickel and dime packages Bailey, who spent his 2000 campaign with the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, is in his second stint with the Lions after spending three years in the Motor City from Starting strong safety Ron Rice and free safety Kurt Schulz are both sidelined with injuries Schulz is suffering from a pinched nerve in his back, while Rice suffered a hairline fracture in his toe Schulz s return is expected back to the lineup around midseason Rice saw limited action in practice last week, but was de-activated for the season opener at Green Bay Lamar Campbell bulked up in the off-season and has moved to free safety The Lions added depth at safety just before the final preseason game against Tennessee when they signed six-year veteran Tommy Bennett (started in 2001 opener at strong safety) S Kywin Supernaw (started first three games of his career late last year) had surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck, and he was placed on the Injured Reserve list. 6 LIONS SPECIAL TEAMS The Lions special teams unit has three of the most talented players in the league at their respective positions 2000 Pro Bowl return specialist Desmond Howard has the ability to break a game wide open, while K Jason Hanson and P John Jett are solid and consistent in their kicking duties Howard needs only one punt return for a touchdown to place him in a tie with Eric Metcalf for the most punt return touchdowns in league history (9) Jett has the leg and accuracy to pin the opponent deep in their own territory, increasing the amount of yardage they must travel to put points on the board Hanson's accuracy from long range gives the Lions another option when entering the opposing team's territory After a mid-season slump in 2000, Hanson has connected on his last 11 field goals Howard has two very capable return backups in Larry Foster and Terry Fair Foster returned both a 101-yard kickoff return and an 80-yard punt return for touchdowns in the team's first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, while Fair led the league in kickoff return yards as a rookie in 1998 Among the leaders in covering kicks are Scott Kowalkowski, Brock Olivo, Clint Kriewaldt and Cory Schlesinger. LIONS NOTABLES LITTLE MAN STEWART MAKING BIG IMPRESSION RB James Stewart was the workhorse running weapon in 2000 that the Lions envisioned when they signed him as an unrestricted free agent from Jacksonville February 14, He rushed for 1,184 yards on 339 carries (both career-highs). The 339 carries are the third-highest single-season mark in Lions history, trailing only Barry Sanders 1998 and 91 outputs.! Stewart was outstanding in Detroit s win at the New York Jets Dec. 10, 2000, tallying 37 carries for 164 yards (both career-highs). He also went over the 1,000-yard barrier for the first time in his career with his 30-yard run late in the first quarter. The game served as his ninth career 100-yard game and the third of the season.! The 37 carries in that game are the second-highest single-game tally in Lions history, trailing only the 40 rushes Sanders accumulated in an overtime game at Dallas Sept. 19, 1994.! With his 2000 rushing output, Stewart became only the fourth Lion to ever accomplish this feat. Sanders did so on 10 occasions, Billy Sims went over 1,000 yards three times ( and 83) and Steve Owens did so in By gaining 1,184 yards, he became only the third player to eclipse the 1,100-yard mark.! Stewart also rushed for 10 touchdowns in his first year in Detroit. That represented the highest single-season total for the Lions since Sanders 11 rushing touchdowns in 1997, and tied for the third-highest mark in the NFC. His 11 total touchdowns (including one receiving) also tied him for the third-highest mark among NFC running backs.! The Lions were 7-1 in 2000 when Stewart had 20-or-more rushing attempts in a game.! Stewart also enjoyed a big game at Tampa Bay Oct. 19, 2000, rushing for 116 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. The 20 points he scored in that game (two-point run also) tied him for the sixth-most single-game points in Lions history (Garo Yepremian in 1966).! Stewart also was a productive option out of the backfield in the Lions passing game in He finished tied for fourth on the squad with 32 receptions for 287 yards and a touchdown. He recorded the two highest pass yardage totals of his career in two of the team s October outings a career-high 67 yards in five receptions vs. Green Bay Oct. 8 and three catches for 66 yards Oct. 29 at Indianapolis.! Stewart is in the NFL record books as one of five players in league history to rush for five touchdowns in a game (vs. Philadelphia 10/12/97). 7 GETTING A KICK OUT OF HANSON In two-time Pro Bowler Jason Hanson, the Lions are blessed with one of the NFL's top all-around kickers. He finished 2000 by nailing each of his last nine field goal attempts and connecting on 24-of-30 (.800) field goal tries on the year.! Hanson was two-for-two on field goal attempts in the Lions 2001 season opener at Green Bay, which extended his consecutive field goals made to 11.! Hanson ranks in second-place on all five of the Lions major career scoring and kicking records. His career totals of 220 field goals, 273 field goal attempts, 964 points scored, 304 extra points and 309 extra points attempted all trail Eddie Murray s career totals. To eclipse Murray s records, Hanson needs to connect on 25 and attempt 53 field goals, score 150 points and attempt and make 78 extra points apiece. Murray s career totals include 244 field goals in 325 attempts, 1,113 points scored and 381 extra points in 386 attempts.! Hanson needs 36 points to eclipse the 1,000 career points mark, which would make him the second player (Murray the only other) in team history to reach that milestone.! Now in his 10 th season, Hanson has connected on 203-of-233 field goal attempts (.871) from inside 50 yards. No other kicker in NFL history possesses a better percentage from inside 50 yards, with Miami s Olindo Mare (114-of-131,.870) and Green Bay s Ryan Longwell (106-of-123,.862) following Hanson closely on this list. Hanson has made 108 of his last 122 attempts (.885) from inside 50 yards, dating back to the start of 1996.! His seven points in the 2000 season finale vs. Chicago put him over the 100-point plateau for the sixth time in his nine-year NFL career (101 points), and fourth year in a row. Among his 100-yard seasons, he holds the top two spots on the team's all-time seasonal scoring list -- a team-record 132 points in 1995 and 130 points in '93.! Among other 2000 milestones for Hanson were making his 200th career field goal vs. Washington Sept. 10, kicking his 300th extra point at Minnesota Nov. 30, and eclipsing the 900-point mark at Tampa Bay Oct. 19.! His game-winning 44-yard field goal vs. Atlanta November 12 was the ninth game-deciding field goal of his career. His last previous game-winner had come vs. Minnesota October 17, 1999 from 48 yards. Five of his nine career game-winners have come in overtime, including a team-record three in 1994.! In the Lions win vs. Washington Sept. 10, 2000 (earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his efforts), Hanson made five field goals in the game, which marked the 11th time in his career he kicked four-or-more field goals in a game. The Lions are 11-0 in those games. In addition to his effort vs. the Redskins, nine of the above outings were fourfield-goal efforts, and he connected on a career-high six field goals Oct. 17, 1999 vs. Minnesota.! Hanson connected on both of his field goal attempts from 50 yards-or-more in 2000 (17 for his career). They came on a 54- yarder vs. Washington Sept. 17 and a 52-yarder at Minnesota Nov. 30. He is six-of-10 from 50+-range since 1999.! The above 54-yarder was the third-longest of his career, having made a club record 56-yarder Oct. 9, 1995 vs. Cleveland and a 55-yarder Nov. 23, 1997 vs. Indianapolis. The 54-yarder Sept. 10 tied him for third-longest in team history Glenn Presnell and Eddie Murray (twice) also have 54-yarders to their credit.! Detroit is (.656) during Hanson's career when he kicks two-or-more field goals in a game. Also, the club is 23-7 (.767) when Hanson kicks three-or-more field goals in a contest.! He had a day to remember on Oct. 17, 1999 vs. Minnesota kicking a career-high six field goals, including the 48-yard game-winner with seven seconds remaining. With those six field goals, he tied a team record, formerly held by Garo Yepremian at Minnesota on Nov. 13, He also became one of 17 players in NFL history to boot six field goals in a game (Mare also on the same day). For his effort, he was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, and on Nov. 4, he was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October 1999.! Other standards set vs. Minnesota included his seven field goal attempts and represented the second-most ever by a Lion kicker in a game (Yepremian with eight in 66). Previously, Hanson had attempted six field goals vs. Phoenix Sept. 26, Also, Hanson scored a career-high 19 points in that win. His previous high was 14 points, accomplished five times.! He also had a huge game on Dec. 5, 1999 vs. Washington, recording the 10th four-field goal game of his career. Among the four field goals against the Redskins in that game were two from 50 yards-or-more (50 and 52-yarders). That was the second time in his career that Hanson had accomplished that feat (Nov. 23, 1997 vs. Indianapolis). Hanson in the Detroit Lions Record Books Most Points Career Player Total Years 1. 8 DESMOND S HAPPY RETURNS KR Desmond Howard was outstanding in his first full season in Detroit, as illustrated by him being named to his first career Pro Bowl in He ended the season ranked third in the NFL in punt return average (14.7) and accumulated a career-high 1,858 total return yards, also the third-highest total in the NFL.! His club record 95-yard punt return late in the third quarter in the season opener at New Orleans Sept. 3 turned out to be the game-winner. It was the eighth punt return touchdown in his career, tying him for second-place with Jack Christiansen (Detroit, ), Rick Upchurch (Denver, ) and Philadelphia s Brian Mitchell on that all-time NFL list (Eric Metcalf leads with nine).! He was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September. During that four-game span, he returned seven punts for 164 yards (NFL-high 23.4 avg.) and 14 kickoffs for 376 yards.! His 457 punt return yards in 2000 tied him for the second-highest single-season tally in Lions history (tied with Pat Studstill in 1962). His 2000 total trails only Walter Stanley s 496 yards in Additionally, his 1,401 kickoff return yards is the third-highest seasonal total in team history. That amount trails only Glyn Milburn s 1,627 yards in 1996 and Terry Fair s 1,428 yards in 1998.! Howard came two yards short of tying Metcalf when he was tackled by Indianapolis P Hunter Smith in the third quarter Oct. 29 vs. the Colts. The 80-yard return was still the third-longest of his career (longest non-scoring return).! He had another big game at the New York Giants Nov. 19, returning his two punts 50 and 30 yards, respectively. The 50- yarder set up the Lions second touchdown of the game and the 30-yarder placed him into the top ten on the Lions all-time single-season punt return yardage list.! Despite the losing effort, Howard enjoyed an outstanding outing Sept. 17 vs. Tampa Bay. He returned six kickoffs for 218 yards, which marked the third-most kickoff return yards in a game in Lions history (Wally Triplett s 294 yards at Los Angeles 10/29/50 and Fair s 224 yards at Green Bay 9/6/98 rank first and second, respectively).! Included in his 218-yard effort Sept. 17 vs. Tampa Bay were the two longest kickoff returns of his career. He returned the opening kickoff of the game 63 yards, and added a career-long 70-yarder later in the first quarter.! Prior to his opening day heroics, the last time Howard had played in the Louisiana Superdome was while he was with the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI. In that game, he sparked the Packers to a win over New England with a Super Bowl record 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, earning him MVP honors (only special teamer ever).! The 119 punt return yards Howard accumulated at New Orleans in the season opener was also the fifth-highest single-game punt return yardage total in Lions history. The 95-yarder for a touchdown broke Tommy Watkins previous record of 90 yards, set vs. San Francisco Oct. 6, 1963.! Howard s other punt return for a touchdown in his tenure with the Lions came Dec. 5, 1999 vs. Washington (68 yards), only hours after signing with the team. That return was the Lions first punt return for a touchdown since Mel Gray s 58- yarder on Sept. 13, 1992 vs. Minnesota.! Howard is also in second-place in NFL history (along with five others) for having recorded three punt returns for touchdowns in a single-season, while with Green Bay in Christiansen (1951) and Upchurch (1976) hold that all-time NFL record with four returns for score. He holds virtually every major Lions' career and seasonal receiving record, including career marks in receptions, receiving yardage and TD catches, and the seasonal standards for most receptions and receiving yardage.! Nov. 23, 2000 vs. New England, Moore became the 23rd player in NFL history to record 9,000 career receiving yards. He surpassed that milestone on his first reception (a 20-yarder) of the contest. Moore is the Lions' all-time career receiving yards record holder with 9,139 yards.! With 668 career receptions, Moore stands in 15th-place on the NFL s all-time receptions list. In the 2000 season finale vs. Chicago Dec. 24, he caught four passes to break a tie with Ozzie Newsome (662) for the 15th spot. He moved into a tie with Newsome at Green Bay Dec. 10. He is currently 20 catches behind Larry Centers (688) for 14th-place and 33 receptions behind Gary Clark (699) for 13th-place on that list.! On Nov. 12, 2000 vs. Atlanta, Moore passed Charlie Taylor (649) for the 15th position among the NFL s all-time receptions leaders. He passed Don Maynard (633) and Drew Hill (634) with his two receptions at Chicago Sept. 24. PAGE 8 OF 18

9 ! On Dec. 20, 1998, Moore became the fastest player in NFL history to reach the 600-reception plateau. He was the 20th player in league history to accomplish that feat and did so in his 118th career game, breaking the previous record of Jerry Rice (123). In 1997, he became the third-fastest player in league history to reach the 500-reception plateau (99 games).! A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Moore has also recorded yard outings in his career (Lions are in those games). He is currently ranked 12 th on the NFL's all-time list for most career 100-yard receiving games, two behind Andre Reed, who is in 10th-place with 36 such outings. Porcher moved into a tie with Al Bubba Baker Sunday at Green Bay for the Lions career quarterback sacks record when he collected the 75.5 sack of his career. He needs.5 sack to become the Lions career sacks king.! After a slow start in 2000, Porcher erupted for five sacks in Games 10-11, including the third three-sack outburst of his career Nov. 19 at the New York Giants. He now leads the Lions with eight sacks in The above-mentioned two-game tally served as the 16th and 17th multi-sack outings of his career.! With his 15 sacks in 1999, he became the first player in Lions history to lead the club in sacks in five different seasons (1993 and ). Mike Cofer and Baker each led the Lions in sacks during four campaigns.! Porcher is the only player in team history to record at least 10 sacks in four consecutive years ( ).! Porcher s 57 sacks since 1996 are the most of any active NFL player in that span (Baltimore s Michael McCrary is second with 55).! His 15 sacks garnered in 99, gave him the most single-season sack tally for Lions player since quarterback sacks became an official statistic in His 99 output was the fourth-highest single season tally in Lions history, and he owns three of the top in 98 (10th), 12.5 in 98 (7th) and 15.0 in 99 (4th) single-season sack totals.
