The Packers jumped out to an early 21-3 first quarter lead and the Lions never fully recovered. With a consistent rainfall throughout the game, the Lions were hit early with big plays. After holding the Lions to a three-and-out series to begin the game, the Packers wasted no time putting points on the scoreboard. QB Brett Favre hit WR Bill Schroeder on the team's opening play for 34 yards, and only three plays later, RB Ahman Green galloped 31 yards to give the Packers a 7-0 lead. The Lions showed signs of offensive firepower as it drove to the Packers' 35-yard line, but two RB James Stewart attempts were denied on third and fourth down, giving the ball back to Favre and the Packers. Favre hit Schroeder on back-to-back plays, a 35-yard completion and a 23-yard touchdown, to give the Packers a 14-0 lead. After a second three-and-out series by the Lions' offense, the Packers needed only one play to increase their lead to Green fended off several tacklers, bounced outside and sprinted 83 yards for his second touchdown of the game. The Lions, however, did answer as K Jason Hanson nailed a 49-yard field goal to place the Lions on the scoreboard. Midway through the second quarter, Hanson booted his second field goal (39 yards) of the day to place the score at DE Robert Porcher's sack of Favre (first of the season and 75.5 during 10-year career) late in the second quarter placed him in a tie with Al "Bubba" Baker as the team's all-time career sack leader. The Lions defense forced a turnover with 2:05 remaining in the half. Both LB Chris Claiborne and DT Kelvin Pritchett hit Green at the line of scrimmage, forcing the fumble, while CB Lamar Campbell recovered. What looked to be a big momentum changer before half, ended up in an interception deep in Packers' territory. Batch's pass was intended for WR Herman Moore, but instead was intercepted by S Darren Sharper. The only other scoring of the game came midway through the third quarter when the Packers put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive that chewed 11:05 and resulted in seven points. Favre threw his second touchdown pass of the game when he found TE Bubba Franks for a one-yard touchdown in the corner of the endzone. The Detroit Lions dropped their second contest of the season with a loss to the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Despite seven interceptions thrown by QB Ty Detmer and 15 penalties for 115 yards, the Lions were still within striking distance throughout the entire game. The Browns struck first when QB Tim Couch found WR Kevin Johnson for a four-yard touchdown pass, giving the Browns a 7-0 advantage. Early in the second quarter, facing a third-down play from the Browns' own two-yard line, Couch rolled to his right and found offensive lineman Shaun O'Hara, ext ending the advantage to One of the main highlights for the Lions in the first half came when DE Robert Porcher sacked Couch for a six-yard loss in the second quarter, making him the Lions' leader in career sacks (77.5). The Browns pushed the lead to 17-0 when K Phil Dawson connected on a 33-yard field goal. Cornerback Terry Fair provided a spark midway through the third quarter when he intercepted Couch, which he returned the interception 26 yards for a touchdown to pull the Lions within 10 points. Fair's first interception of the season moved him into fourth place on the Lions' career return touchdowns list with Levi Johnson (5). The Browns, however, stretched their cushion back to 17 points, as Couch found WR Quincy Morgan for a 34-yard touchdown pass, which pushed the score to The Lions pulled within 10 points early in the fourth quarter fueled largely in part by the play of WR Johnnie Morton. Morton caught three passes for 64 yards on the drive, including a diving 14-yard touchdown pass from Detmer. The seven points were the last scored in the game, sealing the Browns' victory.

The Lions' defense played considerably well defending the topranked offense in the NFL for most of the contest. While the offense moved the ball, but had three crucial turnovers inside the red-zone. Midway through the first quarter, the Rams relied on the arm of QB Kurt Warner to put points on the board. Warner went 8-for-10 on the drive that chewed 4:25 off the clock and resulted in a 15-yard WR Az- Zahir Hakim touchdown reception. The drive consisted of 10 plays (all passes) that gave the Rams a 7-0 lead. Early in the second quarter, Warner increased the Rams' lead to 14-0 when he found WR Torry Holt on a 36-yard touchdown pass. Midway through the second quarter, the Lions put together a solid drive, which moved them inside the Rams' 20 yard-line. QB Ty Detmer, however, was intercepted by CB Dre' Bly at the seven yard-line, and he returned the intercepted pass 93 yards to swell the Rams' lead to In the second half, the Lions' defense played solid football on the big-play Rams' offense, while the Lions' offense, now with QB Charlie Batch at the helm, moved the ball, but again turned it over inside the red-zone, leaving the Lions without any momentum from which to build. The Rams went on a fourth-quarter scoring binge when Warner threw his third TD of the game, a one-yard pass, to TE Ernie Conwell and RB Marshall Faulk scored on a seven-yard touchdown run to seal the score at GAME #4 VIKINGS 31, LIONS 26 METRODOME, OCTOBER 14, 2001 ATTENDANCE: 64, 048 DETROIT LIONS MINNESOTA VIKINGS VIKINGS...Culpepper 7 run (Anderson kick) LIONS...Hanson 19 FG VIKINGS...Prentice 1run (Anderson kick) VIKINGS...Anderson 41 FG LIONS...Hanson 51 FG VIKINGS...Culpepper 33 run (Anderson kick) VIKINGS...Carter 47 pass from Culpepper (Anderson kick) LIONS...Stewart 15 pass from Batch (Hanson kick) LIONS...Crowell 16 pass from Batch (pass failed) LIONS...Morton 20 pass from Batch (Hanson kick) LIONS VIKINGS First Downs Total Net Yards Net Yards Rushing Net Yards Passing (Att/Comp/Int) Punts-Average Fumbles-Lost Sacks-Yards Penalties-Yards Time of Possession...28:51 31:09 RUSHING: LIONS - Stewart ; Warren 2-18; Schlesinger 1-3; Batch 1-0. The Detroit Lions fell short of earning their first victory of the 2001 season when a last-minute drive was halted. It stopped the Lions attempt to come back from a 31-6 second half deficit as Detroit was defeated by the Minnesota Vikings The game was a tale of two separate halves, as the Vikings' scoring barrage extended through the first two quarters of play while the Lions came roaring back during the second half. The Lions' offense fired on all cylinders throughout the entire day, totaling a seasonhigh 457 yards (328 passing, 129 rushing) compared to the Vikings' 343 total offensive yards. QB Charlie Batch threw for a career-high in yards, completions and tied a career-high mark for touchdowns in the game after going 31-of-41 for 345 yards and three touchdowns. With 1:34 remaining and with no timeouts, the Lions' offense drove down to the Vikings' 20 yard-line, but could only watch time run out on t heir comeback attempt. The Vikings were the first to put points on the board as they drove 80 yards on the opening kickoff drive, which was capped off by QB Daunte Culpepper's seven-yard scramble. The Lions quickly answered, scoring an apparent five-yard Batch-to-Crowell touchdown pass. The play, however, was challenged and overruled as being down at the one-yard line. The Lions settled for three points, making the score 7-3. To begin the second quarter, RB Travis Prentice scored on a one-yard touchdown plunge to give the Vikings a 14-3 lead. Both teams traded a field goal midway through the second quarter (Viking s K Gary Anderson--41 yards, Jason Hanson--51 yards), but it was Culpepper's second touchdown run of 33 yards with 34 seconds remaining in the half that gave the Vikings momentum heading into the locker room. The Vikings looked as if they put the game out of reach when Culpepper hit WR Cris Carter on a 47-yard touchdown pass on their first offensive opportunity in the second half, but their lead would quickly evaporate. Batch would find three different receivers for touchdown passes over the span of the next 19:01 to pull the Lions within five points. Batch found RB James Stewart in the middle of the field for a 15-yard touchdown pass to rally the Lions within 18 points, After 40 seconds elapsed from the clock to begin the fourth quarter, Batch found Crowell on a 16-yard touchdown pass ( two-point conversion failed) pulling the Lions within 12 points. With just over six minutes remaining in the game, Batch found WR Johnnie Morton, who dove and barely scraped his feet in the endzone, to bring the Lions within five points,

The Detroit Lions come-from-behind-victory attempt was stymied after the Tennessee Titans drove down the field and kicked the gamewinning field goal with 10 seconds remaining. The score was deadlocked at 24 apiece after QB Charlie Batch (25-of-42 for 338 yards and 3 TD) found WR Desmond Howard on a fourth-and-ten, 36- yard touchdown pass with 1:18 remaining. Titans K Joe Nedney's 46- yard field goal, however, gave the Titans their second victory of the season. The game opened in beautiful fashion for the Lions when S Ron Rice intercepted QB Steve McNair's second pass of the day to give the Lions excellent field position. The offense moved the ball to the Titans' ten-yard line, but K Jason Hanson's 27-yard field goal attempt never lifted off the ground due to a botched snap. The Titans took a 3-0 lead on Nedney's 38-yard field goal with 1:54 remaining in the first quarter, and then increased their lead to 6-0 on Nedney's second field goal (45 yards) with 7:26 remaining until halftime. QB Charlie Batch put the Lions in command when he found WR Johnnie Morton in the corner of the endzone for an 18-yard touchdown reception. On the Lions' ensuing drive, Batch hit WR Germane Crowell streaking down the sideline for a 46-yard touchdown pass to extend their advantage to Nedney hit his third field goal of the day (29 yards) to make the score 14-9 heading into halftime. The Lions drove to the Titans' 22-yard line to open the third quarter, and looked to increase their lead, but Hanson's 40-yard field goal attempt was blocked and returned 69 yards by CB Donald Mitchell to swing the advantage Tennessee's way. McNair's two-point opportunity pass to WR Drew Bennett was complete, giving the Titans a three-point advantage, The Lions continued to scrap their way back after their misfortunes and tied the game when Hanson's 23-yard fourthquarter field goal split the uprights. The seesaw battle continued when McNair hit TE Frank Wycheck on a six-yard touchdown pass with 4:46 remaining to give the Titans a seven-point lead. The Lions' defense held and gave the offense one last chance with 2:18 remaining. The Honolulu blue and silver responded with Howard's touchdown reception, but too much time was left on the clock. Tennessee's offense drove 30 yards to set up Nedney's game-winning field goal. Detroit's 2001 regular season record fell to 0-6 after losing to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday. On the Bengals' first offensive play from scrimmage, RB Corey Dillon shifted to his left to avoid a tackle and then rambled 96 yards to give Cincinnati an early 7-0 lead. Detroit's defense carried the Lions in the first quarter as they forced two punts following two Lions' offensive turnovers. Detroit's offense eventually got on the board when K Jason Hanson nailed a 51-yard field goal attempt to pull the Lions within four points. On the ensuing drive, the Bengals used 13 plays, moved the ball 84 yards and chewed 7:24 off the clock, which resulted in a an eight-yard QB Jon Kitna-to- Dillon touchdown pass. The Lions' defense came up big when CB Terry Fair tipped a Kitna pass and S Ron Rice came away with the interception, however the offense could only muster up a Hanson 24- yard field goal. The boxing bout continued when Kitna threw his second touchdown pass of the game to WR Darnay Scott with just under two minutes remaining in the half. Although, after a 91-yard Desmond Howard kickoff return, the Lions eventually pulled within eight points on a one-yard RB Lamont Warren touchdown run. Howard again provided the Lions with much-needed spark when he returned the opening second-half kickoff 65 yards to yet again set up the Lions' offense with superb field position. Two plays later, Batch hit TE David Sloan on a one-yard touchdown pass to pull the Lions within two points, (two-point conversion attempt failed). Following a 39-yard Bengals field goal, Sloan caught his second touchdown of the day (a single-game career-high) to give the Lions their first lead of the day, Dillon, however, scored his third touchdown on the afternnon midway through the 4 th quarter to mark the game s final scoring.

On the Lions ensuing drive, the offense moved the ball 52 yards in 12 plays, but came away empty handed as K Jason Hanson s 43-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right. The Lions special teams unit then stepped up to the plate and made a big play to keep the 49ers scoreless as rookie DT Shaun Rogers blocked Jose Cortez s 49-yard field goal attempt. QB Mike McMahon, who was inserted for a total of two series during the game (one during each half), then orchestrated a nine-play, 39-yard drive to set up Hanson s 39-yard field goal. The 49ers answered before halftime as QB Jeff Garcia found TE Eric Johnson for a four-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes that tightened the score to The second half was dominated with the play of Garcia and WR Terrell Owens. After trailing 10-0 at halftime, the Lions came storming back in the second half, tied the game at 17 with under two minutes remaining, but couldn't quite hold on for the victory. The only scoring opportunity in the first quarter for either team was a 22-yard field goal attempt by K Martin Gramatica, however a botched snap led to a broken play. With 5:03 remaining in the half, Gramatica was given another opportunity and he nailed the 37-yard field goal to give Tampa a 3-0 lead. On the ensuing possession, QB Mike McMahon, who was inserted for one series in the place of QB Charlie Batch, fumbled on a quarterback scramble to give the Buccaneers' offense good field position. One play later, Buccaneers QB Brad Johnson found RB Warrick Dunn on a 12-yard touchdown route to increase Tampa Bay's lead to 10-0 heading into the locker room at halftime. The second half started off slow, but would eventually heat up as the Lions put their first points on the board. After punt returner Karl Williams muffed a punt, RB Brock Olivo recovered the fumble and set the Lions' offense up on the Bucs 26-yard line. RB Cory Schlesinger converted a fourth-and-one play inside the Bucs' five-yard line to keep the drive going and three plays later, he scored on a oneyard touchdown plunge to pull the Lions within three points. The Bucs, however, killed the Lions momentum when Williams returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown to again stretch the Bucs lead to 10 points. The Lions then answered, as Hanson kicked a 38-yard field goal to pull the Lions within seven points. Despite early obstacles, the Lions' defense then forced the Bucs to a three-and-out series and would eventually capitalize after Batch went five-for-six for 56 yards on the drive. With 1:54 left, Batch found RB Reuben Droughns for an eightyard touchdown strike to knot the score at QB Brad Johnson, however, drove his team 53 yards to set up Gramatica's 35-yard game -winning field goal with four seconds left to play in the game.

The Lions fell into an early hole after the Cardinals engineered a 95-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead, however the Lions answered with a 16-play, 90-yard drive which ended in a one-yard FB Cory Schlesinger touchdown, knotting the score at 7-7. On the following series, Cardinals QB Jake Plummer was intercepted by CB Todd Lyght (second of the season) deep in Lions' territory to stymie any hope of the Cardinals increasing their lead. Five plays later, Batch found TE David Sloan for a two-yard touchdown pass to give the Lions a seven-point lead, With 26 seconds remaining before halftime, Plummer hit WR David Boston on a 13-yard reception to tie the score at 14 apiece. Coming out of halftime, the Lions asserted themselves early as RB Lamont Warren bumped the Lions' lead back to seven points after he caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Batch. The call-answer scoring routine continued when Plummer avoided a rush, stepped up into the pocket and delivered a 68-yard touchdown to streaking WR Frank Sanders. With the score again tied, WR Johnnie Morton took matters into his own hands, literally, as he made an unbelievable, one-handed diving catch and then had the presence of mind to get up and continue running to the Cardinals' oneyard line. The reception totaled 76 yards and on the next play, set up Sloan's second touchdown of the day (one-yard touchdown reception). The Lions' defense forced the Cardinals' offense into a three-and-out series and capitalized as K Jason Hanson nailed a 49-yard field goal to give the Lions a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter of play. The Cardinals, however, would go on a 24-point unanswered scoring barrage. Plummer threw two touchdown passes, F. Wakefield intercepted a Batch pass and returned it 20-yards for a score and K Bill Gramatica hit a 50-yard field goal to give the Cardinals a 14-poin t lead. Despite the huge momentum shift, the resilient Lions' offense responded as Warren scored his second touchdown of the game (six-yard TD pass from Batch) to pull the Lions within striking distance. Charlie Batch, who went 36-of-62 for 436 yards (all Lions' single-game records), gave the Lions a chance at the end, but two Hail Mary attempts failed giving the Cardinals their third win of the season. In the 62 nd annual Thanksgiving Day game played in Detroit, the Lions nearly pulled off a fourth-quarter, 16-point come-from-behind victory. Backup QB Mike McMahon engineered two touchdown drives in the final seven minutes to pull the Lions within two points, but the two-point conversion attempt with less than 20 seconds remaining failed, giving the Packers their seventh win of the season. The Packers put points on the board first as RB Ahman Green galloped 26 yards for a touchdown on the Packers' second drive of the day to give Green Bay an early 7-0 lead. The Lions would answer, as their next two drives were capped off by two K Jason Hanson field goals (33 and 54 yards). Hanson's 54-yard field goal marked the 20 th 50-yard plus field goal of his illustrious 10-year career (only seven other players in NFL history have kicked 20, 50-yard plus field goals). The Packers then increased their lead back to four points as K Ryan Longwell nailed a 46-yard field goal to make the score Detroit's defense gave the Lions their only lead of the game in the second quarter when LB Chris Claiborne sacked and forced Packers' QB Brett Favre to fumble, which was then recovered and returned eight yards for a touchdown by DE James Hall giving the Lions a lead. Green Bay, however, would capture back the lead with less than 10 seconds remaining until halftime as Favre hit TE David Martin to give the Packers a lead. Both the third quarter and the first half of the fourth quarter were dominated by the Packers as they reeled off 12 unanswered points. Green scored his second touchdown of the game on a 35-yard touchdown reception from Favre in the third quarter, while the additional five points came from a safety and a Longwell 39-yard field goal. The Lions, however, would come roaring back. McMahon, who was inserted in place of QB Charlie Batch for one series in the first half, came off the bench again for the final two drives. He led the Honolulu blue and silver on an 18-play, 71-yard drive which was capped off by a RB Lamont Warren one-yard touchdown run. McMahon then kept the Lions within one score as he scrambled into the endzone on the two-point conversion to pull the Lions within eight points, The Lions then amazingly recovered the onside kick with 1:17 remaining in the game. On fourth down with 18 seconds remaining, McMahon scrambled to his right and hit WR Scotty Anderson for a 29- yard touchdown pass to pull the Lions within two points. Unfortunately for the Lions, McMahon's two-point pass attempt sailed out of bounds, giving the Packers the victory.

Kicker Jason Hanson, who had a very uncharacteristic day, was given an opportunity with 24 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, but missed the 40-yard field. The Lions opened the game with a seven-play, 27-yard drive, but Hanson's 45-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right. The Lions' offense, though, would bounce back two series later. The 10-play, 95-yard drive marked the longest drive of the season for the offense and was made possible in large part by RB James Stewart's 56-yard (career long) reception from QB Charlie Batch. Stewart finished off the drive with a threeyard touchdown plunge to give the Lions a lead they would hold onto until 5:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bears answered the Lions' long touchdown drive with a nine-play, 46- yard drive which was capped off by a 46-yard K Paul Edinger field goal, making the score 7-3. The Bears would march into Lions' territory two more times in the second quarter, however the stingy Lions' defense kept the Bears without points. With 4:43 remaining until half, the Bears were stuffed on a fourthand-one play by the surge of DT Luther Elliss and DE Robert Porcher, and with 1:28 remaining until half, CB Bryant Westbrook recorded his first interception of the year after making an interception on the sideline to get the ball back in the hands of the offense. Seven plays later with 10 seconds remaining until halftime, Hanson missed his second field goal of the day (a 48-yarder). Hanson redeemed himself midway through the third quarter when he nailed a 36-yarder to increase the Lions lead to The Lions were forced to switch quarterbacks to open the fourth quarter as Batch suffered a shoulder injury at the end of the third. QB Mike McMahon was inserted in his place and eventually set up Hanson's final attempt with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Hanson missed the field goal and the Bears' 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter proved to be too much. The Detroit Lions regular season record fell to 0-12 after a heartbreaking loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the waning seconds of regulation. QB Mike McMahon, who made his first NFL start against the Bucs, was unable to fulfill a Detroit comefrom-behind endeavor as WR Keyshawn Johnson's 13-yard touchdown catch with 45 seconds remaining kept the Bucs playoff hopes alive and the Lions winless. After a scoreless first quarter, the Buccaneers got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter when FB Mike Alstott galloped through the middle of the field 24 yards for a touchdown. The 11-play, 91- yard drive chewed 6:09 off the clock and gave the Bucs a 7-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Lions answered as K Jason Hanson nailed a 39-yard field goal to make the score 7-3. The Bucs drove down to the Lions three-yard line and with only five seconds remaining until halftime, Bucs head coach Tony Dungy decided to go for the touchdown rather than attempt the 20-yard field goal. The Lions defense, who held the Bucs typically dynamic rushing attack to only 81 yards on the day, flushed QB Brad Johnson out of the pocket and forced him into an incomplete pass as time ran out in the first half. The Lions then scored nine unanswered points on three Hanson field goals (30, 50 and 42 yards respectively), and took a five-point lead with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation. In a drive that began with 4:56 remaining in the game, the Bucs converted two fourth down plays (six and eight yards) en route to Johnson s touchdown with less than one minute remaining. Johnson s two-point conversion pass to Alstott was successful, giving the Bucs a lead. The Lions fumbled the kickoff and the Bucs recovered to preserve their win. Lions DE James Hall had a stellar day as he sacked Johnson a career-high 3.5 times for 24.5 yards, which is also a team-leading effort in a single game this season.

The Detroit Lions won their first game of the 2001 regular season and spoiled the Minnesota Vikings' playoff chances. After losing their last nine contests by a mere 4.2 average points per game, the Lions found a way to win in the fourth quarter. QB Mike McMahon, who threw for 241 yards and rushed for an additional 74, orchestrated a 13-play, 80-yard fourth quarter drive which gave the Lions a three-point lead they would not relinquish. Both teams opened the game scoring defensively. CB Todd Lyght stepped in front of a QB Todd Bouman offering and returned the interception 59 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. It marked the fifth touchdown and 35 th interception (four with Detroit this season) of Lyght's career. The Vikings, however, would answer with a defensive touchdown of their own. S Tyrone Carter picked up RB Aveion Cason's fumble and rumbled 46 yards to knot the score at seven apiece. On the ensuing drive, McMahon's 69-yard pass to WR Scotty Anderson set up a one-yard touchdown run by McMahon to give the Lions a 14-7 lead. Midway through the second quarter, the Lions tacked on an additional three points as K Jason Hanson nailed a 44-yard field goal to give the Lions a 17-7 lead. Led by DE Robert Porcher, who recorded two sacks on the day (his fourth multi-sack game of the year), the Lions' defense did not allow any more points and walked into the locker room at halftime with a ten-point lead. Due in large part by the play of Vikings WR Randy Moss (seven catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns), the Vikings scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a four-point lead. But with 10:40 left in the game, FB Cory Schlesinger scored on a oneyard touchdown plunge and the Lions' defense held the rest of the way to give the Lions their first victory of the season. The Lions dropped their 13 th game this season in their final road game of 2001 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. The Steelers defense, which held the Lions offense to only 151 yards on the day, scored the first points of the game as LB Joey Porter sacked QB Mike McMahon, forcing him to fumble. LB Jason Gildon scooped up the fumble and rambled 27 yards to the end zone to give the Steelers a 7-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Lions put together their most impressive drive of the day, a nine play, 74 yard drive that used 4:37 off the clock. RB Lamont Warren s 34-yard run led to TE David Sloan s 10- yard touchdown catch from McMahon to knot the score at 7-7. The Steelers, however, quickly answered as they put together an impressive drive of their own. Traveling 77 yards in 14 plays, QB Kordell Stewart capped off the drive by finding TE Matt Cushing on a four-yard touchdown pass to again increase their lead to seven points. After a second fumble recovery, the Steelers scored on their third touchdown of the day on a twoyard K. Stewart touchdown run. K Kris Brown missed the PAT, holding the score to Two plays later, the Steelers defense forced yet another turnover as CB Dewayne Washington intercepted McMahon with just over 13 minutes remaining in the half. After both teams missed 48-yard field goals, K. Stewart found WR Hines Ward on a five-yard touchdown strike to increase the Steelers lead to 20 points, The Lions went into halftime with momentum as McMahon found Sloan on a one-yard touchdown pass to pull the Lions within 13 points. With his two touchdown receptions, Sloan increased his team-leading touchdown receptions total to six (single-season career-high) on the season. The last time a Lions TE recorded six touchdowns in a single season was in 1970 when Charlie Sanders recorded six touchdown receptions (also a single-season career-high). The Steelers dominated the second half, as they put up another 20 points and kept the Lions offense scoreless.

After allowing two early touchdowns, the Lions were unable to recover as the swarming Bears' defense kept Detroit scoreless. Bears QB Jim Miller orchestrated two touchdown drives on the first two offensive opportunities in the first quarter to give Chicago an early 14-0 lead. Miller's first touchdown pass was a 28-yarder to WR D'Wayne Bates and his second was a 20-yard strike to WR David Terrell. With just under six minutes remaining in the half, the Bears tacked on three additional points as K Paul Edinger nailed a 38-yard field goal to make the score During the second half, the Lions' offense was able to move the ball, but four second-half turnovers killed any chance of a drive. Even though the Lions failed to score on the day, FB Cory Schlesinger, WR Johnnie Morton and QB Ty Detmer all had solid individual outings. Schlesinger recorded a career single - game high eleven receptions for 67 yards, while Morton's seven receptions for 95 yards put him over the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the fourth time in the past five years. In his first action since October 8, Detmer set new career highs in pass attempts (50) and completions (31), and threw for a season high 303 yards, which was his fourth career 300-yard passing game. The only scoring in the second half was produced by the Bears' defense. On October 6, 1975, Detroit played their first regular season game at the Silverdome in a Monday night matchup also with Dallas where the Cowboys left with a victory. After a scoreless first quarter, where Lions K Jason Hanson was wide left on his first 51-yard field goal attempt, the Cowboys set up an eightplay, 59-yard drive early in the second quarter that sent Dallas RB Emmitt Smith two yards for a touchdown run into the end zone to give the Cowboys an early 7-0 lead. On Detroit s next possession, QB Ty Detmer engineered the offense down the field 80 yards, finishing off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown strike to TE David Sloan. While attempting the extra point, holder John Jett bobbled the snap and tried a two-point conversion but the pass was incomplete in the end zone. With a 7-6 score, the Lions had another chance to gain three points before the end of the half but Jason Hanson s 51-yard field goal attempt hit the center of the crossbar leaving the Lions down by one point after the first 30 minutes of play. Detroit received the ball on the first drive in the third quarter and after a nine-play, 55-yard march down the gridiron, Hanson nailed a 47-yard field goal to put Detroit in the lead 9-7. With four minutes left in the third quarter, the Cowboys Smith passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark on the season with a 13-yard run. It notched Smith s 11 th consecutive, 1,000-yard season, surpassing former Lions RB Barry Sanders previous 10 consecutive, 1,000-yard seasons. Dallas went into the beginning of the final quarter with a John Hilbert 33-yard field goal to put the Cowboys ahead Detroit answered by way of a 66-yard drive down the field with WR Johnnie Morton catching the game-winning, 16-yard touchdown to seal the lead From there, the Lions defense took over and secured the victory while stopping the Dallas offensive attack on their next two possessions. Morton finished the contest with eight catches for 86 yards with his touchdown reception tying Terry Barr and Leonard Thompson for second in club career receiving touchdowns with 35, while also ending 2001 with a personal season high of 1,154 yards.
