Second-year QB Joey Harrington completed a career-high four touchdown passes, two of which were to rookie WR Charles Rogers, and Detroit did not commit a turnover en route to the victory. The Cardinals would draw first blood, however, with QB Jeff Blake connecting with rookie WR Anquan Boldin for a seven-yard touchdown with 5:48 left in the first quarter to give Arizona a 7-0 lead. The Lions would respond just under four minutes later with the first Harrington-to-Rogers connection, a four-yard pass to the back of the end zone, to tie it at 7-7. Another Rogers touchdown grab from Harrington, this one for 13 yards, put the Lions on top 14-7 with 11:27 remaining in the second quarter. Arizona would come back strong, scoring once in the second and once in the third to jump ahead But as he is capable of doing, Lions second-year PR Eddie Drummond swung the momentum in the Lions favor with an electric 57- yard punt return for a touchdown to tie the game at 21 apiece with 8:21 to go in the third quarter, his second punt return for a touchdown against the Cardinals in as many games. Drummond made another huge special teams play shortly thereafter, forcing a muffed punt by Boldin which was picked up by Lions LB Donté Curry on Arizona s 35, leaving Detroit in prime scoring position. The Lions would not disappoint as two plays later, Harrington connected with a wide-open FB Cory Schlesinger for an eight-yard touchdown in the corner of the end zone to put Detroit up for good, A 38-yard field goal by Cardinals K Bill Gramatica pulled Arizona within four, but the Lions continued to pour it on. The Lions forced a turnover when DE James Hall picked up a Blake fumble on the Arizona 36 and then Harrington threw his fourth touchdown of the day, a five-yard pass to WR Bill Schroeder that gave Detroit a advantage with 11:43 remaining in the fourth quarter. Less than a minute later, Lions CB Dré Bly put the finishing touches on the game with a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown to make it a victory for Detroit. Green Bay got off to a quick start when RB Ahman Green took a handoff and ran 65 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game, to give the Packers a 7-0 lead. The Packers took a 14-0 lead with 4:26 remaining in the first when QB Brett Favre flipped a pass to RB Tony Fisher for a five-yard score. The Lions would catch a break late in the quarter when P John Jett s punt deflected off a Packer and the fumble was recovered by Detroit deep in Packers territory. K Jason Hanson would then kick a 22- yard field goal to get the Lions on the board. Green Bay responded four minutes later with a 46-yard field goal by K Ryan Longwell to make it a 17-3 game. With less than a minute remaining in the half, CB Dré Bly picked off Favre at midfield to stall a Packers drive and give the Lions a shot to score before heading into the locker room, and with no time remaining in the half, Hanson booted the 22 nd 50+ yard field goal of his career, this one from 52 yards out to pull the Lions to within It would be all Packers in the second half, however. After an interception by LB Nick Barnett, Green Bay scored three plays later when Favre hit WR Robert Ferguson for a 14-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to put the Packers up The Packers would score once more on a 56-yard interception return by CB Al Harris in the fourth quarter to make it a 31-6 final.

Detroit came out firing and jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. After KR Eddie Drummond gave the Lions good field position with a long return on the opening kickoff, Detroit moved 59 yards in seven plays to get on the board first. RB Shawn Bryson capped off the drive when he got into the end zone with 11:00 remaining in the first quarter on a fiveyard run, the Lions first rushing touchdown of the season. Later in the quarter, a 27-yard field goal by K Jason Hanson gave Detroit a 10-0 lead, but Minnesota would come back and control the second quarter. A pair of rushing touchdowns by Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper put Minnesota up and then a 21-yard field goal by K Aaron Elling with five seconds remaining in the first half made it Vikings going into the locker room. Culpepper injured his back on his second touchdown after getting hit by Lions LB Wali Rainer and did not return to the game. Detroit would cut the lead to on its first possession of the second half on a 37-yard Hanson field goal, but a 72-yard touchdown play from QB Gus Frerotte to WR Kelly Campbell on the Vikings next drive put Minnesota up On the play prior to Campbell s touchdown, Lions CB André Goodman injured his shoulder and did not return to the game and then in the fourth quarter, the injury bug hit again as Drummond went down with a lower leg injury that kept him out the rest of the way. Detroit would not be able to overcome the injuries and the deficit and the team had four possessions in the final 10 minutes of the game, but was unable to convert those into any points. RB Shawn Bryson s 28-yard run on Detroit s second possession helped set up a 33-yard touchdown play from QB Joey Harrington to rookie WR Charles Rogers to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. The Broncos would counter on their next drive, tying the game at 7-7 after a 29-yard touchdown pass from QB Jake Plummer to WR Ashley Lelie. Denver would take a 14-7 lead when Plummer hit TE Shannon Sharpe for a one-yard score. A 53-yard field goal by K Jason Hanson midway through the second quarter cut the Denver lead to The Lions defense made a big play late in the first half when CB Jimmy Wyrick recovered a Plummer fumble while the Broncos were in scoring territory to keep the deficit at four points going into the locker room. Late in the third quarter, K Jason Elam booted a 37- yard field goal to put the Broncos up by a touchdown again, but on the ensuing drive, the Lions would storm 70 yards down the field in seven plays, capping it off with WR Scotty Anderson dancing his way through the Denver defense for a 43-yard touchdown reception from Harrington. However, a bad snap would cost the Lions the extra point and they would remain behind, With 3:13 remaining in the game, Elam kicked his second field goal of the game, this time from 41 yards out, to put Denver up Detroit had the opportunity to run a two-minute drill, but a fourth-down pass from Harrington to Rogers was broken up and the Broncos were able to take over and run out the clock.

San Francisco got off to a quick start. After intercepting a pass from QB Joey Harrington, the 49ers went 23 yards in six plays capped off by a six-yard touchdown from QB Jeff Garcia to WR Terrell Owens to go up 7-0 just over three minutes into the game. The Lions would go three-and-out on their next series and the 49ers took advantage, going up 10-0 on a 48-yard field goal by K Owen Pochman. San Francisco increased their lead to 17-0 early in the second quarter when its 11-play, 90-yard drive resulted in Garcia connecting with TE Aaron Walker for a 14-yard score. The Lions would not go quietly, however. With six minutes remaining in the first half, Detroit moved the ball deep into San Francisco territory and came away with three points on a 28-yard field goal by K Jason Hanson to pull within two touchdowns. The Detroit defense came up with a huge turnover on the 49ers next offensive play when CB Dré Bly intercepted a Garcia pass in front of Owens to give the Lions prime field position in San Francisco territory. Six plays later Harrington hit TE Mikhael Ricks for a six-yard touchdown, Ricks first of the season, to make it a game going into the locker room. The teams took turns on offense without scoring for most of the third quarter until, with just 1:06 remaining, Garcia scored on a oneyard touchdown run to put the 49ers up by two touchdowns again. The Lions would respond quickly as on their next possession, they drove 60 yards on eight plays, capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by RB Olandis Gary early in the fourth quarter. Detroit trailed by just a touchdown, but that was all San Francisco would allow as the 49ers defense shut down the Lions for the rest of the game. The Lions struggled to stop the steady Cowboy offensive attack, led by QB Quincy Carter, and had problems moving the ball on offense. Detroit jumped out to a 7-0 lead, however, when S Corey Harris stripped Cowboys RB Troy Hambrick of the ball and CB Dré Bly picked it up and sprinted 67 yards untouched down the sideline for a touchdown. It was Bly s second defensive touchdown of the season and the second fumble return for a touchdown in his career. It would be all Cowboys after that. Carter connected with WR Terry Glenn for three touchdowns in the first half to put Dallas up 21-7 and then CB Mario Edwards returned a QB Joey Harrington interception 27 yards for a score and a 28-7 lead. The second half would not treat Detroit any better. QB Mike McMahon replaced Harrington with hopes of jump-starting the offense, but he too struggled. The Cowboys controlled the clock for nearly all of the third quarter, including a 14-play, 81-yard drive that took 7:27 off the clock and was capped off by a three-yard touchdown run by Hambrick to make it K Billy Cundiff kicked a 23-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter to put Dallas up 38-7.

The Lions rallied late after being down 24-0 but the Bears held on for a victory. After a scoreless first quarter, the Bears got on the board first with a 21-yard touchdown strike from QB Chris Chandler to rookie WR Justin Gage. K Paul Edinger gave Chicago a 10-point cushion going into halftime with a 37-yard field goal as time expired in the second-quarter. The Bears grabbed the momentum quickly in the third quarter as CB Jerry Azumah returned the second-half opening kickoff 89-yards for a touchdown and a 17-0 Chicago lead. Rookie RB Brock Forsey scored the Bears final points with an 8-yard touchdown run, capping off an eightplay, 58-yard drive. On the ensuing kickoff, Lions KR Reggie Swinton provided a spark with a 96-yard return for a touchdown and the Lions converted the two-point play when QB Joey Harrington hit WR Az- Zahir Hakim. The Lions scored a touchdown with 53-seconds left in the fourth quarter when Harrington hit TE Mikhael Ricks for a three-yard touchdown and converted the second two-point conversion attempt of the day, this time to WR Scotty Anderson. Detroit appeared to recover the onside kick attempt but Chicago was awarded possession after replay determined that the Lions recovered the kick inches before it traveled 10 yards. Despite playing with a patchwork secondary the Lions were able to limit the Raiders to just 13 points and forced four turnovers. Detroit s defense struck early as on Oakland s first possession, Lions CB Otis Smith made a great read and picked off a QB Marques Tuiasosopo pass right along the sideline, his first interception as a Lion. K Jason Hanson would make the Raiders pay for the miscue as he booted a 54-yard field goal to give the Lions an early 3-0 lead. The Lions would come up big again later in the first quarter when newly-signed CB Doug Evans stripped future Hall-of-Fame WR Jerry Rice of the ball which was picked up by LB Barrett Green and taken 38 yards to the Raiders 12-yard-line. Detroit then took a 10-0 lead when RB Olandis Gary broke through a huge hole up the middle for a two-yard touchdown run, his second of the season. The Raiders cut the lead to seven at the end of the first half when K Sebastian Janikowski booted a career-long 55-yard field goal. The Lions struck again on their first drive of the third quarter when FB Cory Schlesinger snuck behind Raiders CB Philip Buchanon and hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from QB Joey Harrington to cap off a seven-play, 66-yard drive and make it a 17-3 Lions lead. Oakland would not go quietly as it scored on its next possession on a seven-yard touchdown run by RB Charlie Garner. Hanson increased the Lions lead to when he was good from 42 yards out early in the fourth quarter after an 11-play, 44-yard drive by the Lions. The Lions defense stood up to the Raiders next challenge as a special teams fumble put Oakland in prime scoring position on the Detroit nine-yard-line, but they were held to only a field goal. After the Lions defense forced a three-and-out late in the fourth quarter, QB Joey Harrington engineered his third career fourth-quarter, game-winning drive to set up Hanson s kick. Harrington completed 5-of-6 passes for 35 yards on the drive, sparked by an 18-yard completion to WR Az-Zahir Hakim on a corner route. The Lions got on the scoreboard first in the game on a 24-yard field goal by Hanson late in the first quarter. Chicago tied it at 3-3 when K Paul Edinger made a 43-yard field goal. Things did not start well for the Lions as Seattle jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. On the Seahawks first possession, QB Matt Hasselbeck ran in from four yards out to give Seattle a 7-0 lead and then later in the quarter, RB Shaun Alexander went in from one yard to make it a two-touchdown advantage. The Lions would respond quickly, coming to life on their next play from scrimmage when QB Joey Harrington hit an open WR Scotty Anderson down the field for a 72- yard touchdown to cut the lead to The score was the Lions longest play from scrimmage this season and Harrington s longest completion of his career. Seattle s offense continued to play tough, and went up 21-7 when it caught a break after Hasselbeck fumbled on a run, but it was recovered in the end zone by WR Koren Robinson for a touchdown. Seattle increased its lead to 35-7 on a pair of big plays by WR Bobby Engram. Engram hauled in a 34-yard touchdown pass from Hasselbeck and then returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown. The Lions would not go quietly as on their ensuing possession, they drove 71 yards on nine plays, capped off by Harrington connecting with WR Az-Zahir Hakim in the corner of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown. The drive would be costly for the Lions, however, as Anderson was injured while blocking and did not return. CB Dré Bly, who was nursing a strained hamstring, and the rest of the secondary played well, holding allpro WR Randy Moss to only five catches for 56 yards and no touchdowns. Minnesota did get on the board first with a 25-yard touchdown run by RB Michael Bennett midway through the first quarter to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead. The teams would play scoreless through the rest of the first half, with the defenses making stops on each side. With the Vikings driving early in the second quarter, Lions S Brian Walker made his second interception of the season when he picked off QB Daunte Culpepper in the end zone to end any Vikings threat. The Lions defense came out in the second half as well and made a huge play on the Vikings first possession in the third quarter when CB Dré Bly stripped RB Moe Williams of the ball, picked up the fumble and ran 44 yards down the sideline before tossing it back to S Corey Harris who took it the final 35 yards into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7. The teams traded punts for the remainder of the third quarter, but the Vikings offense was able to put together a drive in the fourth. Culpepper led his team 73 yards down the field and held the ball for nearly nine minutes, but Detroit came up big in the red zone, holding the potent Vikings offense to only a field goal by K Aaron Elling. The Lions offense would not be able to convert, however, as Minnesota s S Corey Chavous and CB Brian Williams each returned interceptions for touchdowns to give Minnesota a 24-7 lead late. Detroit was propelled by its defense, which forced a season-high five turnovers and limited the Packers league-leading rushing attack to just 52 yards, as well as K Jason Hanson who booted five field goals, including three in the fourth quarter. Lions CB Dré Bly earned FOX s inaugural Galloping Gobbler award for his efforts, which included a career-best two interceptions and a forced fumble. The Lions scored first in the game when RB Shawn Bryson ran for a six-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter on the Lions opening possession. Hanson gave Detroit a 10-0 lead with his first field goal, a 42-yarder, with just 33 seconds left in the first quarter. Green Bay responded on its next drive when QB Brett Favre found TE Bubba Franks in the corner of the end zone for a five-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to Late in the second half, Hanson kicked a 28-yard field goal to cap off a nearly eight-minute drive by the Lions offense and make it a 13-7 Detroit lead going into halftime. Green Bay took its first and only lead of the game in the third quarter when Favre connected with WR Javon Walker on a 45-yard touchdown. The Lions defense would take over after that, however. After that go-ahead touchdown, Detroit sacked Favre three times and forced four turnovers. CB Dré Bly got it started on the first play of the fourth quarter when he popped the ball out of Walker s hands in Packers territory and was recovered by S Terrence Holt. Hanson converted on a 49-yard field goal shortly thereafter, which was the eventual game-winner. The Lions would tack on two more field goals, both after turnovers. DT Dan Wilkinson recovered a Favre fumble after S Brian Walker and DT Shaun Rogers sacked him and the Lions turned into three points with a 46-yard field goal by Hanson, and then Hanson put the Lions up after Bly made his second interception of the game.

Detroit came out flat and San Diego made the Lions pay. On their second possession of the game, the Chargers drove 70 yards on nine plays, capped off by QB Doug Flutie connecting with RB LaDainian Tomlinson for a 16-yard touchdown to give San Diego a 7-0 lead. While the Lions offense was struggling, the Chargers threatened again early in the second quarter and drove deep into Detroit territory. The Lions defense would come up with a big play, however, as rookie S Terrence Holt stepped in front of a Flutie pass and intercepted it at the 11-yard-line. On his runback he fumbled, but it was recovered by Lions CB Dré Bly on the Lions 31. Later in the second quarter, San Diego took a 14-0 lead when Flutie hit Tomlinson again for a touchdown, this time a 73-yard score. On the Chargers next possession, Detroit s defense came up big again when DE James Hall stripped Flutie of the ball and it was picked up by LB Jeff Gooch and taken back to the Detroit 41-yard-line, giving the Lions a shot to cut into the Chargers lead going into halftime. The Lions moved the ball down the field, but would run out of time as WR Bill Schroeder was tackled five yards short of the end zone as the half ended. Detroit s defense shut down the Chargers for the entire second half, allowing no points and just 70 yards of total offense. The Lions finally got on the board midway through the fourth quarter when QB Joey Harrington found rookie TE Casey FitzSimmons for a four-yard touchdown, the first touchdown of FitzSimmons career. The score capped off an 11-play, 83- yard drive that took 6:33 off the clock and made it a 14-7 Chargers lead. Detroit had one last chance to tie the game late. WR/KR Eddie Drummond got things started with a game-long 25-yard punt return that put the Lions on their own 41-yard-line with just under two minutes to go in the game. The Lions trailed the Rams at halftime, but came out in the second half and shut down the high-powered St. Louis offense and were able to score some points of their own. Detroit scored the first points of the game and the only of the first quarter when K Jason Hanson converted on a 39-yard field goal to make it 3-0. The Rams would counter on their next possession to take a 7-3 lead on an eight-yard touchdown pass from QB Marc Bulger to TE Brandon Manumaleuna. Detroit came roaring back to go ahead 10-7 when QB Joey Harrington found WR Bill Schroeder in the end zone for a 13-yard score. The Rams would take over the remainder of the second quarter with a pair of field goals by K Jeff Wilkins and a two-yard touchdown run by RB Marshall Faulk. It would be all Lions in the second half as they scored 20 unanswered points. After DT Shaun Rogers sacked Bulger and forced a fumble which was recovered in St. Louis territory by LB Barrett Green, Harrington connected with WR Az- Zahir Hakim for a 13-yard touchdown to pull the Lions within The defense forced a three-and-out on the Rams next drive and the offense put the Lions ahead for good on a Harrington-to-TE Casey FitzSimmons touchdown midway through the third quarter. Rookie LB Boss Bailey made his first career interception on the Rams next possession, leading to another field goal by Hanson to make it late in the third. On the second play of the fourth quarter, Hanson booted a 50- yarder, his fourth of the season over 50 yards, to pad Detroit s lead to 10 points. Rams QB Kurt Warner replaced Bulger following an injury, but the Lions defense continued to be tenacious and held St. Louis to just 194 total yards, including only 41 on the ground.
