2 Packers Public Relations Lambeau Field Atrium 1265 Lombardi Avenue Green Bay, WI / / fax Jeff Blumb, Aaron Popkey, Sarah Quick, Ricky Zeller, Jonathan Butnick, Tom Fanning, Mike Spofford, Duke Bobber VOL. XII; NO. 12 GREEN BAY, OCT. 5, 2010 WEEK 5 GREEN BAY (3-1) AT WASHINGTON (2-2) Sunday, Oct. 10 FedExField Noon CDT PACKERS MAKE RARE TRIP TO FACE REDSKINS Green Bay travels to Washington for the first time since 2004 on Sunday to play the Redskins. It is just the second matchup between the teams in Washington over the past 31 seasons. The Packers 2004 visit, a Green Bay win on Oct. 31, was their first trip to Washington since Dec. 2, 1979, a Redskins win. The initial meeting between the teams came in 1932, which was the first year the Redskins franchise, then known as the Boston Braves, was in existence. The teams squared off 17 times between , including the 1936 NFL Championship, the fourth title game in NFL history. Green Bay holds a edge in the all-time series against the Redskins, which includes wins in each of the last four meetings (2001, 2002, 2004, 2007). Prior to 01, the teams hadn t met since Head Coach Mike McCarthy, who is also the offensive play-caller, will be facing an opposing coach he worked under for four seasons. Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was the head coach in New Orleans for each of McCarthy s five seasons there ( ) as offensive coordinator. It will be the first of two consecutive matchups for McCarthy against a head coach he served under. Mike Nolan, who was the head coach of San Francisco in 2005 when McCarthy served as the offensive coordinator there, is now the defensive coordinator in Miami. The Packers host the Dolphins in Week 6. Last Sunday, the Packers beat the Lions, 28-26, Green Bay s 19th straight regular-season home victory over Detroit. That ranks No. 1 among current NFL home streaks, eclipsing Washington s mark of 18 consecutive home victories against Detroit. The victory was the Packers sixth straight at home, which matches the longest winning streak at home ( ) during McCarthy s tenure. Green Bay will return home next Sunday to face Miami for the first time at Lambeau Field since 2002 with the Dolphins coming off of their bye, while the Redskins host the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday night. MEMORABLE MATCHUPS While the teams haven t seen as much of each other in recent years, the all-time series has been headlined by a couple of memorable games. The NFL championship game in 36 was the first for both franchises, and the Packers beat the Boston Redskins, 21-6, at the Polo Grounds in New York City. The game was played in New York because Redskins owner George Preston Marshall, upset with his fans lack of support, was moving his team to Washington and didn t want to host the championship in Boston. In front of 29,545, Don Hutson caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Arnie Herber in the first three minutes, and Green Bay never trailed. It was the first NFL title contest won by the Packers under coach Curly Lambeau, after winning league championships awarded by league standing in 1929, 1930 and The teams met in one of the more memorable regular-season games in Packers history on Monday Night Football on Oct. 17, Facing the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay won, 48-47, in a game that is still the highest-scoring contest ever on MNF as well as in Packers team history. Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy started at free safety for the Redskins in the game. WITH THE CALL FOX Sports, now in its 17th season as an NFL network television partner, will broadcast the game to a regional audience. 3 PACKERS TEAM NOTES UNDER PRESSURE After recording six sacks in Week 1 at Philadelphia, the most by any NFL team on opening weekend, the Packers have followed that performance up with 10 more sacks in the next three games. Green Bay s 16 sacks as a team through Week 4 are tied for the NFL lead with the N.Y. Giants and Tennessee. The Packers lead the league in sack yardage with 113 yards. The Packers' 16 sacks through the first four games are the most by a Green Bay defense to start the season since the 2001 squad registered 20 in the opening four contests. The 16 sacks are also the second most in a four-game span in Head Coach Mike McCarthy's four-plus seasons, trailing only the 17 posted by the Packers in 2006 (Weeks 7-10). Seven of the sacks have come courtesy of LB Clay Matthews, who leads the NFL in that category. DE Cullen Jenkins, who ranks second on the team with four sacks, has posted a sack in each game as well, the first time in his seven-year career that he has recorded one in four straight games. Green Bay is one of only two teams in the league to have two players with four-plus sacks (Kiwanuka/Umenyiora, N.Y. Giants). With Jenkins registering a sack in four consecutive games, this is the second straight year that the Green Bay defense has had a player accomplish that feat. Matthews posted sacks in four straight contests in 2009 (Weeks 12-15). The last Packer to register a sack in five straight games was Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila ( ). The Packers six sacks in Week 1 were the most in a season opener by Green Bay since 2001, when the Packers registered seven sacks against the Lions on Sept. 9 at Lambeau Field. It was also the most in a game under McCarthy, matching the total of six vs. Detroit on Dec. 17, The Packers are already well ahead of their sack pace from last season, when Green Bay s 16th sack didn t come until Week 10 vs. Dallas. Green Bay posted four or more sacks in a game three times in 2009 on the way to 37 for the season, which ranked tied for 11th in the league. CLAY FINDS A WAY With three sacks against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, second-year LB Clay Matthews became the first Packer to post three sacks in back-to-back games since it became an official league statistic in The performance vs. Buffalo came a week after Matthews registered a career-high three sacks in the Packers season-opening victory at Philadelphia. Matthews was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2, the second time in his career he has earned the honor. He also won the award last year for his two-sack outing vs. Baltimore in Week 13 on Monday Night Football. Matthews also became the first NFL player to register consecutive threesack games since Seattle s Patrick Kerney accomplished the feat (Nov , 2007). Matthews six sacks in the first two games of the season were the most ever by a Packer to start a year. His 33 sack yards vs. Buffalo were the most by a Packer since DE Reggie White s 35 on two sacks vs. Minnesota on Oct. 22, Matthews leads the league with 48 sack yards on the season. His six sacks over a two-game span rank second in team history behind only Bryce Paup, who recorded 6½ sacks in Weeks 3-4 in Paup posted 4½ sacks vs. Tampa Bay on Sept. 15, and then followed that up with two more the next week at Miami on Sept. 22. In just 20 career games played, Matthews has posted two or more sacks in a game five times. That is a franchise record for the most two-sack games over that span to start a Green Bay career, breaking White s mark of four in his first 20 games with the Packers ( ). Matthews 17 sacks since 2009 rank tied for first in the league over that span with Denver s Elvis Dumervil (17). In 2009, Matthews set a Packers rookie record with 10 sacks on his way to earning Pro Bowl honors, the first Green Bay rookie to be named to the all-star game since Hall of Fame WR James Lofton in Matthews 17 sacks in his first 20 games are the most ever by any NFL player to start a career. It tops the previous mark of 16.5 set by San Diego s Leslie O Neal (1986, 1988) and the N.Y. Jets John Abraham ( ). STARTING FAST The opening drives of a half set the tone for a team, and Green Bay s offense is off to a fast start in that area this season. When QB Aaron Rodgers connected with WR Donald Driver on a 29-yard TD pass on the opening drive of the game vs. Detroit last Sunday, it was the second time in four games that the Packers scored a TD on their first drive. Their 17 points this season on the first drives of the game rank No. 2 in the NFL behind only Indianapolis 21 points. Green Bay ranked tied for No. 6 in the NFL in 2009 with 37 points on opening drives. The Packers have also scored TDs twice in four games on their opening drive of the second half. Those 14 points rank tied for No. 3 in the NFL, and Green Bay is already well ahead of its pace from 2009 when it scored 20 points all season on opening second-half-drives (No. 20). The Packers did not score a touchdown on the first drive of the second half all of 2008, part of a 34-game span without a TD on the first possession after halftime that started late in 2007 and ran all the way until Week 16 vs. Seattle last season. Green Bay snapped that streak with a 6-yard TD run from RB Brandon Jackson against the Seahawks last season, and have now scored on the opening drive of the second half in four of the past six regularseason games. STAT OF THE WEEK CB Charles Woodson s 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter against Detroit on Sunday was his eighth career with the Packers, which set a franchise record. He had been tied with Hall of Fame CB Herb Adderley (seven, ) for the team mark. It was also Woodson s ninth defensive TD (eight INTs, one fumble return) in a Green Bay uniform, which further extended his franchise record. The touchdown gave Woodson 10 interception returns for touchdowns in his career (two with Oakland), which moved him up in the NFL record books as he became just the third player in league history to post 10 career interception returns for touchdowns. Woodson now ranks No. 3 in NFL history in the category, trailing only Rod Woodson (12) and Darren Sharper (11). Woodson has now posted an INT return for a touchdown in five straight seasons, all five of his years in Green Bay ( ), to become the first player in NFL history to record an INT return for a TD in five consecutive seasons. The score on Sunday was also the third straight year that Woodson has registered an INT return for a TD against Detroit. He is the first player in NFL history to post an INT return for a TD in three consecutive seasons against the same team. Woodson s 14 tackles on Sunday against Detroit was his career high, eclipsing his 13 posted vs. Kansas City (Dec. 5, 2004) when he was with Oakland. Since 2008, Woodson has more interceptions (17) and interception returns for touchdowns (six) than any other player in the league. 2

Became the first Packers coach since Vince Lombardi to lead the team to a championship game in his second season. MIKE SHANAHAN Is in first year as the Redskins 22nd head coach. His 148 regular-season wins rank second among active coaches, behind only Bill Belichick s 151. Served as an NFL head coach for 16 seasons with two teams: Los Angeles Raiders ( ) and Denver Broncos ( ). One of only six coaches to win back-to-back Super Bowls, doing so with Denver ( ), including the Broncos triumph over the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII. During 25-year NFL career as a head and assistant coach, has coached in 10 conference title games and six Super Bowls. THE PACKERS-REDSKINS SERIES The Packers first met the Redskins (then Boston Braves) in 1932, five days after Franklin D. Roosevelt won his first presidential election. The two clubs met several times in the early years, most memorably in the 1936 NFL championship game. That year, Redskins owner George Preston Marshall, upset with his fans lack of support, was moving his team to Washington and didn t want to host the championship in Boston. So, the NFL moved the game to New York s Polo Grounds, where Green Bay claimed its fourth title, In the other playoff meeting in the series, an NFC divisional game on Christmas Eve 1972, Bill Kilmer hit Roy Jefferson on a 32-yard TD pass, and Curt Knight kicked three FGs in a 16-3 Washington win, spoiling the Packers Central Division crown. The Packers and Redskins played the highest scoring game in Monday Night Football history on Oct. 17, 1983, at Lambeau Field, in a game that featured 11 TDs and six FGs. The Packers own a four-game series winning streak ( ). That streak began at Lambeau Field, Sept. 24, 2001, the historic first Monday night game after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. LAST MEETING, REGULAR SEASON Oct. 14, 2007, at Lambeau Field; Packers won, CB Charles Woodson s 57-yard return of a fumble by WR Santana Moss late in the third quarter gave the Packers the come-from-behind win. Moss had taken a handoff on an end-around and was stripped by DT Corey Williams. LB Nick Barnett stopped RB Ladell Betts on a swing pass on fourthand-1 midway through the fourth quarter to help preserve the Packers lead. QB Brett Favre threw two INTs to the late Sean Taylor in the second half. The first one broke the NFL record for the most career INTs. Redskins TE Chris Cooley had nine receptions for 105 yards, including a 14-yard TD late in the first half that put Washington up LAST MEETING, IN WASHINGTON, D.C. Oct. 31, 2004, at FedExField; Packers won RB Ahman Green recorded the first three-td performance of his career. He scored two TDs in the first half as the Packers led The victory was overshadowed by an injury to QB Brett Favre in the third quarter. After a LaVar Arrington sack, Favre was carted off the field and did not return. An MRI the following day revealed no significant damage to his knee. Backup QB Doug Pederson replaced Favre in the third quarter and led the team on three scoring drives to close out the game. 33

5 PACKERS TEAM NOTES AN EMERGING PLAYMAKER After returning from a knee injury last season in Week 11 that had forced him to miss the better part of four games, TE Jermichael Finley was one of the more productive players in the league at his position down the stretch. Through four games, he looks to be picking up where he left off. Finley ranks first on the team and second among NFL tight ends (Antonio Gates, 386) with 301 yards receiving on 21 receptions (14.3 avg.). He joins Gates as the only tight ends in the league to record two 100-yard receiving games this season. Finley s two 100-yard games in 2010 matches the franchise singleseason record for TEs, joining Paul Coffman (1979, 1983) and Mark Chmura (1995) as the only TEs to post two 100-yard games in a season. With a team-high 115 receiving yards in Week 3 at Chicago, Finley became only the second TE in franchise history to post back-to-back 100-yard receiving games, joining Coffman (Oct , 1979). It was the third 100-yard game of Finley s career in the regular season, which moved him into the No. 2 spot in franchise annals behind Coffman (6). He had been tied with Chmura and Ed West, who each had two career 100-yard games. In his past 17 games, Finley has had at least 50 yards receiving 10 times. He set a team record for TEs with eight in 2009 despite missing three games. Finley matched a franchise record for tight ends with nine catches at Chicago in Week 3. He also posted that total last season in Week 15 at Pittsburgh, and three other TEs in team annals have caught nine passes in a game. Finley posted three 20-yard receptions at Chicago (20, 26, 28), and has seven on the season. That ranks third in the NFL and second among TEs behind Gates eight. Finley has excelled on the Monday Night Football stage. In three games on MNF over the past two seasons, he has caught 22 passes for 322 yards (14.6 avg.) and three touchdowns. His average of 25.8 yards per catch (103 yards on four receptions) vs. Buffalo in Week 2 was the second-best singlegame performance in team history (min. four receptions) by a tight end. Coffman s 30.5-yard mark on four receptions at Chicago on Dec. 18, 1983, sits atop the record book. In 2009, a season in which he set career highs in every statistical category, Finley s coming-out party came on the team s first appearance of the season on MNF at Minnesota in front of the largest television audience in cable history. That game, he set a regular-season career high and matched a team record for TEs in receiving yards (128), highlighted by his 62-yard catch-and-run TD. The catch marked the longest reception by a Green Bay tight end since Jackie Harris caught a 66-yard scoring pass against Denver on Oct. 10, If the Week 4 game last season at Minnesota served as a coming-out party, the Wild Card playoff game at Arizona showed Finley s potential to take over a game. His 159 receiving yards set a franchise postseason record and ranked second in NFL postseason history for a tight end. A look at where Finley ranks among NFL tight ends since returning from his injury in Week 11 last season. Player Receptions 1. Jason Witten, DAL Dallas Clark, IND 60 3t. Jermichael Finley, GB 59 3t. Through four games this season, the Packers are off to an even more productive start, having scored touchdowns on nine of 12 trips inside the opponent s 20. That 75.0 percent touchdown rate ranks No. 2 in the league behind only Philadelphia (80.0 percent). Green Bay s 66 points in the red zone this season (nine touchdowns, one field goal) rank No. 6 in the league. The only times the Packers did not score when they got inside the opponent s 20 was at Chicago in Week 3 when Mason Crosby s 37-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter was blocked, and in Week 4 when the they drove inside Detroit s 20 on the final possession of the game but ran out the clock in the win. The highest red-zone conversion mark under Head Coach Mike McCarthy came in 2008, when the Packers ranked No. 6 in the NFL with a 60.4 percent touchdown rate. Much of Green Bay s success in the red zone has to be credited to the play of QB Aaron Rodgers, who has been one of the more prolific signal-callers in the league inside the 20 since taking over as the starter in According to STATS, Rodgers passer rating of this season in the red zone ranks No. 2 in the league (min. 10 attempts) to only San Francisco s Alex Smith (124.6). Rodgers has connected on 12-of-16 passes (75.0 percent) for 77 yards and five TDs with no INTs in Even more impressive, in 36 career starts with Green Bay, Rodgers has yet to throw a single interception in the red zone, posting a rating on 97-of-158 passing (61.4 percent) for 615 yards and 41 touchdowns. MAKING PLAYS ANOTHER WAY When Rodgers scrambled for a key 16-yard pickup to convert a second-and-13 on Sunday against Detroit on the final drive of the game, it was just an another example of his ability to make plays with his feet. In 2009, Rodgers finished second among all NFL quarterbacks (David Garrard, 323) with 316 rushing yards, the most by a Green Bay QB since Don Majkowski posted 358 yards on the ground in Rodgers also led all NFL signal-callers with five rushing touchdowns in 09, the most by a Packers QB since Majkowski s five in 89. It was the second straight year Rodgers had posted four touchdowns in a season, making him just the third QB in franchise annals to accomplish that feat (Tobin Rote, ; Scott Hunter, ). With two rushing TDs already this season through four games, Rodgers now has his sights set on becoming the first Packers QB since Rote ( ) to rush for three or more TDs in three straight seasons. Of his 73 rushing attempts since 2009, nearly a quarter (17) have been for 10 or more yards. A look at where Rodgers ranks on the ground among QBs since 2009: Quarterback Rushing yards 1. 6 MIKE McCARTHY TRANSCRIPT EXCERPTS FROM THE COACH MONDAY, OCT. 4 When did Burnett tear his ACL? Do you know what play it happened on? Still do not know. It s remarkable to watch the tape. He played 23 snaps in the game. I want to say it probably happened somewhere between probably his ninth and 12th snap in the game. There s no real clear-cut picture when he did it. To watch him play, I think it was at least two full series after that, and also on the punt protection. Dr. McKenzie last night felt pretty strong about it in his examination, and it was confirmed this morning. We just got the news. So you think he played some with it? Oh, he absolutely did. Because there s no evidence, I want to say the last six, seven snaps, of any collision or any major stop-and-start type situation where his body was in that type of position. Do you fill that for a couple of weeks, and where is Atari at? Well, we just talked about it in a preliminary meeting that we had with our coaching staff here at 10:15. We re going to have to really look at how we re going to do it for the next two weeks for sure. As far as Atari Bigby, he s been working out, he s been attending the meetings. We won t really know until we see Atari on the field. We haven t had Atari on the field since last year to see exactly where he is. Obviously he knows our defense and has the experience. Charlie Peprah, I m hoping he ll be able to practice Wednesday, so that will give us a pretty good indication of how we ll play against Washington. So we have a number of balls that are up in the air right now. How did Derrick Martin do yesterday? Derrick did OK. Like a lot of things when you don t get the reps, the communication as far as the details of where you need to be, alignments and disguise and things like that. We need to play better on defense. That was not our best performance by far this year. After the game yesterday, Aaron brought up the need to get the offensive playmakers on the field more. Is he not on the same page with the play-calling? I would say we re on the same page. It was an odd game, no doubt about it for our offense. The time of possession, we ve been on the other side of a few of those, but never that I can recall on that side of it. I think it was almost over an hour period where we weren t in the game. But as far as our offense, we re a multiple offense. In league circles I m sure we re noted as a multiple offense, so we do a lot with our personnel, we do a lot conceptually, we have a lot on our quarterback s plate. We talk every day. I m very confident that we re on the same page. Are you assuming that he is talking about spreading the ball out like you did against Chicago? I m not assuming anything. We have more formations than we could play tripleheaders with our offense. It was an odd game for our offensive players. I m sure they all wanted more opportunities. I m sure they all wish they could have did more. But the fact of the matter, when you go through that game tape today, my biggest disappointments as a team, when we have three takeaways in the game, I strongly believe to be in the plus turnover ratio. Four giveaways is unacceptable. There s a lot of time, energy, technique that is spent every single day in our program, and we were minus-1 as a football team, and that s going to change. So that s the first part. Third down, we didn t do a very good job on both sides of the ball. Particularly if you want to start with the offense, thirdand-1 and third-and-2, that s an extra set of downs, the interception in the red zone on third down. Our third-down production offensively wasn t what it needed to be, and I thought that was really our biggest hurdle on defense was our third-down production. That s what we ll spend our time primarily with today when we go through the corrections. Will Jordy stay on the kickoff return team? We ll look at that. There s accountability back there. You have to hold onto the ball. I think Jordy s done a good job the first three weeks. I think he s doing a good job of recognizing what we re trying to do from a return standpoint. I think we re doing a much better job blocking on the return game. But there s no excuses for having the ball on the ground twice. We re not going to play like that. What are your options there? You could definitely consider Tramon back there. Patrick Lee I ve been impressed with. Dimitri has some ability to do that. We re going to spend a little more time this week, particularly with our specialists throughout our special teams. We have to do a better job handling the football, ball placement and things like that. Do you think Kuhn has earned the right to be the No. 1 back right now? I don t view it that way. I don t view it as No. 1 and No. 2. When we put our run play together, we are trying to not be predictable on who runs what plays or who runs what concepts. We spend more time self-scouting ourselves more than ever because we don t want to be predictable conceptually. We have the flexibility, particularly with our perimeter guys that we don t have to have the same guy run the same position. We are moving Jermichael around even more this year than last year. We have Donald outside, not as much inside, so we have been very conscientious coming out of the offseason of who plays where, and it s no different with the running backs. I think if anything, maybe ask John to do less because John plays at 5 yards and is also playing at 7, and certain handoffs, just give him more of a rhythm. Brandon, I don t worry about because he has done the whole gamut since the first day. I just spend more time on the self-scout part of it, make sure we are getting these guys fundamentally repped and ready to go so they are seeing it with the right vision, they are having the right tempo and the right time clock in accordance with what we are trying to get done in the run blocking. What disappointed you about the defense? Defensively we had some areas of production that just wasn t there. The long down-and-distances, we didn t do a very good job. They had a number of long down-and-distances that we didn t convert, and if you want to break it down even further, through about four weeks we are not handling the quarterback running with the football. And that is something that we need to address, especially going into Washington this week. With the two-man or the underneath coverage and with the pass rush and who is assigned where, we had a couple of breakdowns that were big plays. I think Shaun Hill had three for 53 if I stand correct, so that was one area, and screens. It is common to see a lot of screens when you are a fire-zone, quote-unquote, team, and we did not handle the screen very well. So those are two big areas of production that Detroit did a very nice job of. They did a good job of getting the ball to their playmakers, and their offensive perimeter group is talented. Of all the things that weren t positive, was the way you finished out the game by running out the final 6:32 something you can build on? I thought there were a number of things that came out of the game. No. 1, to turn the ball over four times and win the football game, I think thatsays something about your football team. I don t know how many times that has happened statistically. To overcome that much negativity of a core fundamental that you truly believe in and you dedicate a lot of time in, I think that is an accomplishment. I thought our adversity defense was outstanding. When we turned the ball over, they held them to field goals. I thought that was a very big bright spot in the game. And really, the last 15 plays of the game. With everything that had gone wrong all the way up to that point, the last three plays on defense, starting with Charles makes all three of them. He makes the tackle on first down, he breaks the pass up on second and third down, and then we get the ball back and we control it for 12 plays and end the game. Those last 15 plays of the game I thought was impressive Packer football, and we were able to get the division win and that s what it is all about. After watching the film, did you come away with a different feeling? I ll just say this: I think we need to get a little more realistic, and I haven t talked to the team yet. I ll touch on this when I get in there, but we came in the locker room, we always pray when we come back in, and usually there is some excitement. You would have thought we lost in the locker room, and I think that is unrealistic and we need to get in touch with reality. We talk about winning and improving, and we won the game and we ve got a ton of room for improvement. To me, that s a positive. It didn t look good, it was odd at certain points in the game, but we won the football game, we won a division football game. Those are very important. We spend a lot of time on division football games. You can see Detroit spent a lot of time on us, and that s what division opponents do to each other. I don t recall too many easy wins in division games. It doesn t happen very often. Just because people think we are supposed to go out and win by two touchdowns, that s not realistic, and for us to let that in our locker room is not what we are all about. So maybe this is a good shot of reality that we need. We have had a different week. We felt like we lost a game we had a lot of chances to win, and then we had to do some things at the end of the game to win another division game. These are all good experiences that we can learn from. 55

7 PACKERS TEAM NOTES TAKEAWAY POINTS KEY FOR PACKERS In the second year of Dom Capers 3-4 scheme, the Packers are once again showing their knack for taking the ball away, which they have continued to turn into points this season. The Packers have registered seven takeaways in the first four games, turning five of those turnovers into touchdowns. Green Bay s 35 points off of takeaways so far this season rank second in the league to only San Diego (38). Scoring points off of turnovers has become a trend for the Packers at Lambeau Field, as they have a current streak of 12 straight games at home with points scored that were set up by a takeaway. That streak ranks first in the NFL. Green Bay posted 30 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries in 2009, which it turned into 141 points. The 40 takeaways led the NFL, and the 141 points scored off those 40 takeaways tied New Orleans for most in the league. The 30 interceptions led the league and was the team s highest singleseason total since 1981, when it also had 30. Since 2009, 12 players on defense have intercepted a pass. Only Buffalo (13) has had more players record an INT over that span. Green Bay surpassed its 2008 total of 124 points off takeaways, which led the NFL in 08. It also eclipsed its 08 total in interceptions (22) and fumble recoveries (six) while at the same time protecting the ball at a better clip. Green Bay s 16 giveaways was the lowest total in the NFL in If the Packers don t commit a turnover, like they didn t against Buffalo in Week 2, they re almost guaranteed to win. They have now won 39 of 43 games playing turnover-free football, since a loss at Dallas, Nov. 18, Green Bay s only losses in such games during that stretch came three times against Minnesota, twice in Minneapolis (2005, 08) and once at home (2009), and in Week 15 last year at Pittsburgh. Including playoffs, the Packers have won 42 of their last 46 games without a giveaway. THE INTERCEPTORS Leading the way when it comes to takeaways for Green Bay has been the defensive-back tandem of CB Charles Woodson and S Nick Collins. No NFL duo has been more prolific since 2008 when it comes to taking the ball away and making plays after the interception. Woodson leads all NFL players since 2008 with 17 interceptions, with Collins checking in at No. 3 with 13 over that span behind only his teammate and Philadelphia CB Asante Samuel. Collins leads all NFL players with 405 interception return yards since 08, but Woodson inched closer with his 48-yard INT return for a TD vs. Detroit this past Sunday. He moved into the No. 2 spot in the league, checking in with 396 INT return yards over the past two-plus seasons. Collins has some work to do if he hopes to keep up with Woodson s pace of return TDs. Woodson leads the league since 2008 with six INT returns for touchdowns, with Collins tied for the No. 2 spot with three scores. The DB duo has helped put the Packers at the top of the leaderboard in all three interception categories since Team Interceptions 1. Green Bay Baltimore Tampa Bay 47 Team INT return yardage 1. Tennessee 7 ZOMBO NO. 58 For the second straight season, Green Bay s defense is receiving a contribution from a rookie outside linebacker. In 2009, it was a pair of draft picks, Pro Bowl rookie Clay Matthews and Brad Jones, who gave the Packers their first rookie tandem with four-plus sacks in team history. This season, it is LB Frank Zombo, a non-drafted free agent out of Central Michigan. With Jones inactive in Week 3 at Chicago due to a knee injury, Zombo got the starting nod at ROLB as Green Bay opened up in its nickel package. He posted a 10-yard sack of Bears QB Jay Cutler on the third play of the game, registering his second sack of the season. Zombo got the starting nod again in Week 4 vs. Detroit, and recorded a career-high six tackles, including one for loss. He ranks second among NFL rookies with two sacks, trailing only the Lions DT Ndamukong Suh (3.0), the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Zombo posted his first career sack in the season opener at Philadelphia, bringing down Michael Vick for an 8-yard loss in the fourth quarter. With the sack, Zombo became the first Packers rookie to record a sack in his first game since DE Jamal Reynolds did so in his debut on Dec. 3, 2001, at Jacksonville. Zombo played defensive end in college, but made the transition to outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Dom Capers 3-4 scheme this offseason. During the preseason, he led the Packers in tackles (18) and sacks (two), and added a forced fumble en route to becoming one of three non-drafted rookies to make the team, joining CB Sam Shields and G Nick McDonald. 8 PACKERS TEAM NOTES ON THE ROAD AGAIN Green Bay finished 5-3 on the road in 2009, the third time in four seasons it had finished above.500 under Head Coach Mike McCarthy. The Packers have been able to stay above the.500 mark on the road during McCarthy s tenure, a notable achievement in the National Football League. Green Bay got off to a good start this year with a win at Philadelphia in the season opener. It was the fifth straight season under McCarthy that the Packers have won their first road game of the year. The 2009 home game against Minnesota saw the largest regular-season crowd in Lambeau Field history (71,213). The league s longest-tenured stadium, Lambeau Field is hosting its 54th season of football this year. A total of 565,666 fans made their way through the turnstiles in the eight home contests in Across American professional sports, only Boston s Fenway Park (1912) and Chicago s Wrigley Field (1914) have longer tenures. THE LAMBEAU ADVANTAGE The crown jewel of the National Football League, Lambeau Field has long been known as one of the tougher venues to play in, particularly during the harsh Wisconsin winter. Re-establishing home-field advantage after a 4-4 mark in 2008 was one of the goals of 2009, and with the Packers finishing at 6-2 at home, they accomplished that goal. Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated consistently upon his arrival in Green Bay that one of the team s goals would be to reclaim the mystique of playing at Lambeau Field. Mission accomplished. The team is 21-7 at home since 2007 including playoffs, a marked improvement over the prior three seasons (10-14 combined). 9 PACKERS TEAM NOTES TAKING HIS PLACE AMONG THE GAME S BEST Now firmly entrenched in his role as the face of the franchise, QB Aaron Rodgers has gone from solid first-year starter to one of the game s top young signal callers over the past two seasons. Rodgers ranked near the top of the NFL in most passing categories in 2009 and was honored as the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October, the first such award of his career. He was the youngest of the six quarterbacks named to the Pro Bowl last season. In 2009, he engineered one of the NFL s most potent offenses, ranked No. 6 overall, and avoided costly mistakes, spearheading a team that had a league-low 16 giveaways (15 on offense). His passer rating ranked fourth in the NFL. In addition, he was the game s top-ranked passer on third downs (133.5). The fourth-year pro threw for 4,434 yards, fourth most in the league. That total finished just shy of Lynn Dickey s franchise record (4,458, 1983) for passing yards in a single season. In addition to QB rating and passing yards, Rodgers ranked fourth in TD passes (30) and first in interception percentage (1.3). And just for good measure, he ranked second among QBs with 316 rushing yards on 58 carries (5.4 avg.), and added five rushing TDs. Rodgers joined Steve Young (San Francisco, 1998) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards and 30 TDs and rush for 300 yards and five TDs in the same season. The Elias Sports Bureau never intended for passer rating to measure the effectiveness of a signal caller in one game, but rather over the course of a group of games or an entire season. In 36 career starts, Rodgers has eclipsed the century mark in passer rating 20 times and recorded 10 games of 300-plus yards. Through four games this season, Rodgers ranks tied for No. 8 in the league in passer rating (96.3) and tied for No. 4 in TD passes (eight). Tony Romo, DAL 75 DEEP THREAT Green Bay remained one of the league s most dangerous teams in yards after the catch in 2009, ranking in the top five for the fourth time in five seasons. Its consistent standing near the top of those rankings is due in large part to WRs Greg Jennings and Donald Driver. Jennings is one of the league s top deep threats, with his 83-yard score against Pittsburgh last season in Week 15 marking a career long for both him and QB Aaron Rodgers. When it comes to scoring passes, Jennings has an eye-popping average during his career. Of his 31 career touchdown catches, 13 (41.9 percent) have been at least 40 yards in length. He has a staggering average of 32.7 yards per TD catch, which ranks third among current players with at least 20 career touchdown catches. Jennings continued his big-play ways with a 32-yard touchdown catch in the season opener at Philadelphia in Week 1, part of his team-leading 82-yard day on five receptions (16.4 avg.). He is third in the NFL with 26 receptions of 25-plus yards since It was the second straight year that Jennings came up with a big scoring grab in the season opener. Last year vs. the division-rival Chicago Bears in Week 1, Jennings scored on a 50-yard TD with just over a minute remaining to give the Packers a win. Week 1 has been good to Jennings over the past three seasons as he has posted 16 receptions for 279 yards (17.4 avg.), including two 50-yard receptions, and two touchdowns. While Jennings had six catches of 40-plus yards in 2009, Driver wasn t far behind with five. When it comes to the 40-plus yard plays, there is no doubting the Driver-Jennings duo is the most potent deep-threat combo in the NFL. Player 40-plus-yard catches (since 2007) 1. 10 PACKERS TEAM NOTES ANOTHER FRANCHISE MARK WR Donald Driver, now in his 12th season, established yet another team mark last year in Week 13. Last season, it seemed as though franchise records fell on a weekly basis for Driver. Driver became the 10th player in franchise history to reach the 50-touchdown plateau. No other NFL franchise has 10 players with 50-plus TDs. Earlier, Driver topped the 50-catch plateau for an eighth straight season ( ), a new franchise record. Though he was the oldest player on the active roster at age 34, Driver showed no signs of slowing down in He led the team in catches (70), ranked second in receiving yards (1,061) and first in touchdown catches (6). Driver also extended his own franchise record by recording a seventh overall season and sixth straight with 1,000 yards. He is one of only two players in the league (Reggie Wayne) to have a 1,000-yard season each of the past six years ( ). The most significant record still within Driver s grasp is career receiving yards. James Lofton ranks No. 1 with 9,656 yards. Driver is No. 2 with 9,268. Driver should surpass the mark sometime this season. Against Buffalo in Week 2, Driver scored on a 7-yard TD pass, the 51st receiving TD of his career. That moved him into sole possession of the No. 4 spot in team history, and he currently has 52 career TD grabs. His TD catch on Sunday vs. Detroit was his 21st at Lambeau Field, moving him into sole possession of the No. 2 spot behind only Antonio Freeman (36). Driver already holds the Lambeau records for receptions (318) and receiving yards (4,412). Driver has been the model of consistency for the Packers, catching at least one pass in 131 consecutive games (137 including playoffs), also a franchise record. That streak ranks third among active NFL players behind only Pittsburgh s Hines Ward (182) and Atlanta s Tony Gonzalez (151). While his reputation is as a slot guy who will make the tough catch over the middle, Driver made his share of big plays in His five catches of 40-plus yards tied for ninth in the NFL. Driver is tied for the team lead with 21 receptions in the first four games, and is also tied for the team lead with three TD catches. His nine receptions in Week 3 at Chicago were the most he had hauled in since he caught 10 passes at Detroit on Nov. 22, Along with TE Jermichael Finley at Chicago, Driver was part of the first Packers tandem since Nov. 21, 2004, to each record nine receptions in a game. In the win at Houston nearly six years ago, Driver posted 10 catches and Javon Walker hauled in nine. PROTECTION THE KEY Green Bay s offensive line didn t allow a single sack of QB Aaron Rodgers in Week 3 at Chicago, the second straight game that the sixthyear QB was not sacked. The Packers rank tied for No. 7 in the league with only five sacks allowed in four games. Prior to Rodgers being sacked in the second quarter vs. Detroit this past Sunday, the offensive line had not allowed a sack in 11 straight quarters, the longest streak for the team since Over the past seven regular-season games, Rodgers has been sacked either once or not at all in four of those contests. Over the past 10 games, Green Bay has allowed just 15 sacks, tied for seventh fewest in the NFL over that span. In his two-plus years as the starting quarterback, there have been 13 games where the line has given up either one sack or no sacks of Rodgers. The Packers have a 10-3 mark in those contests. The effect that protection has is evident in Rodgers numbers in those games, as he has completed 291-of-427 passes (68.1 percent) for 3,462 yards and 26 TDs with just five INTs for a passer rating. When Rodgers has been sacked four or more times in a game during his career, the Packers are 4-7. Injuries and performance issues affected the offensive line in the first half of 2009, as Rodgers was sacked 41 times over the first nine games. Once the line regained some continuity down the stretch, it allowed just 10 sacks of Rodgers over the final seven games, a pace that would have put the Packers in the top five in terms of sacks allowed if kept up over a 16-game season. SPREAD IT AROUND With back-to-back 1,200-yard rusher Ryan Grant lost for the season after sustaining an ankle injury in Week 1 at Philadelphia, the Packers have turned to a couple of backs to carry the load. Brandon Jackson, who excelled in his role as a third-down back in 2009, started in Week 2 against Buffalo, his first start since early in his rookie campaign of 2007 (vs. San Diego, Sept. 23). Jackson rushed for 29 yards on 11 carries, and scored on a 1-yard run at the end of the first quarter. He leads the team with 137 rushing yards on 45 carries (3.0 avg.) this season. John Kuhn, who worked primarily at fullback during his first three seasons in Green Bay, has been given more opportunities to carry the ball at RB. In Week 2 against the Bills, he carried the ball nine times for 36 yards, and started for the first time in his career at RB in Chicago in Week 3, posting a career-long 18-yard run. This past Sunday vs. Detroit, Kuhn posted 34 of his career-high 39 rushing yards on the final series, as the Packers ran out the final 6:32 in the win. Grant, Jackson, Kuhn and QB Aaron Rodgers have all posted explosive runs this season (12 yards or more), making Green Bay the only team in the NFC to have four players record 12-plus yard runs. Each of the backs registered a 12-yard run in the season opener at Philadelphia, the first time since Dec. 19, 2005, that the Packers had three RBs post an explosive gain. Samkon Gado, Tony Fisher and Noah Herron each rushed for a 12-yard gain at Baltimore in Green Bay s 13 runs of 10-plus yards rank tied for No. 8 in the NFL. 11 PACKERS TEAM NOTES DEFENSE GETTING THE JOB DONE After finishing No. 2 in the league s final overall defensive rankings in 2009, the unit is off to another strong start this season under second-year defensive coordinator Dom Capers. Green Bay s defense currently ranks No. 10 in the NFL, allowing an average of yards per game through the first four games. That includes a No. 7 ranking in the league against the pass, with opponents averaging only yards through the air in the first four contests. Opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of 74.5 against Green Bay, and the Packers lead the NFL with 16 sacks. After leading the NFL in run defense for the first time in 2009 as it allowed a franchise-record 83.3 yards per game, Green Bay hasn t been quite as stingy against the run thus far this season, ranking No. 24 in the league (118.3 yards per game). A good chunk of that yardage has come from opposing quarterbacks, with signalcallers accounting for 205 yards on 21 carries (9.8 avg.). Outside of the quarterback, opposing teams have run for 268 yards on 70 carries (3.8 avg.). Green Bay s defense hasn t allowed a running back to rush for 100 yards for 17 straight games, the longest current streak in the NFL. Rams RB Steven Jackson was the last to do it, posting 117 yards on 27 carries last season in Week 3 at St. Louis. That streak is the longest in franchise annals since the Packers didn t allow a RB to post 100 yards in 18 straight games (Oct. 1, 1972-Oct. 21, 1973). Under Capers, the Packers thrived in their new 3-4 scheme in The team finished the season ranked No. 1 against the run and No. 5 against the pass. The previous top ranking in franchise history in run defense came in 1972, when the team finished No. 2. Green Bay allowed an average of total yards per game, second behind the N.Y. Jets (252.3) and ahead of No. 3 Baltimore (300.5). Green Bay s improved defense against the run kept opponents in long down-and-distances, enhancing the defense s ability to get off the field on third down. Through the first four games, the unit ranked No. 28. As soon as Green Bay began to stop the run, it shot up the league rankings in third-down defense, finishing the year at No. 9. One constant for the defense was its ability to take the ball away, registering 39 of the team s 40 takeaways. That takeaway total led the NFL in 2009, and it s something that has become a habit for the defense. It has registered at least one takeaway in 19 of its last 20 games. In the first two years of the Mike McCarthy tenure, Green Bay s defense was close to being a top-10 unit, finishing at No. 12 in 2006 and No. 11 in In 2008, it slipped to No. 20 before making the jump up to No. 2 last year. In Capers previous stints as a coordinator, his units made a jump in the rankings in his first season. In Pittsburgh, the defense went from No. 22 to No. 13 in 92 under Capers, then continued to rise to No. 3 in 93 and No. 2 in 94. In Jacksonville, the defense climbed to No. 4 under Capers in 99 after ranking 25th the previous season. The Dolphins ranked No. 4 in 2006, Capers first year, after ranking No. 18 in 05. AS GOOD AS HE S EVER BEEN In 2009, CB Charles Woodson enjoyed the finest season of his career, his first year in the 3-4 scheme. Woodson achieved the highest individual honor bestowed upon a defensive player, taking home The Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award. He also was named an AP first-team All-Pro. Woodson became the fourth player in NFL history since sacks became an official statistic to record at least nine interceptions and two sacks in a single season. One of the players who previously accomplished the feat (Ed Reed ) also went on to win Defensive Player of the Year. Woodson also led the Packers with four forced fumbles. Against Dallas in Week 10, Woodson became the first NFL player to record two forced fumbles, an interception and a sack in a game since Steelers linebacker James Harrison accomplished the feat two years prior to the day vs. Baltimore on Nov. 15, In that contest, Harrison posted three forced fumbles, 3½ sacks and an interception. Against the Lions in Week 12, Woodson tallied two interceptions, including one he returned for a score, a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery, and held Calvin Johnson to two catches for 10 yards. Woodson was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for October, November and December, becoming the first defensive player in the NFL to win a monthly award three times. In addition to his team-high and careerbest nine interceptions, he established a new career high with 81 tackles, third most on the team. His previous career high had been 79, a total he accomplished twice before (OAK, 2000; GB, 2008). Woodson is off to another fast start in the tackles category this season as he leads the team with 29 stops (24 solo) in the first four games. Woodson s 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter against Detroit this past Sunday was his eighth career with the Packers, which set a franchise record. He had been tied with Hall of Fame CB Herb Adderley (seven, ) for the team mark. His four forced fumbles tied for second among NFL defensive backs in 2009, and he is tied for the league lead this season among defensive backs with two forced fumbles. There s no doubt Woodson s career has undergone a revitalization since coming to Green Bay. He now has 46 career interceptions, which is tied for third among active NFL players. Of his interceptions, 29 have come in 66 games with Green Bay. In 106 games with the Raiders, he had 17. CLOSING IN ON THE RECORD Eighth-year LB Nick Barnett is poised to move into the No. 1 spot for most career tackles in franchise history. Barnett enters Sunday s game at Washington with 1,013 career tackles, good for second in team history (statistic kept since 1975). Barnett stands just eight tackles shy of breaking John Anderson s franchise record (1,020), a mark he could hit against the Redskins. An organization like this with so many great players and so many great teams, to be able to lead anything or to take any records, that s huge, Barnett said earlier this season. It feels good to be able to do that. You don t see in this day and age a lot of players staying on one team for so long, and I ve been blessed to be able to do that, and I hope to continue that. Barnett currently ranks third on the team with 27 tackles (21 solo) through the first four games. Last season he led the team in tackles (122) for the fifth time in his career, a franchise record, returning from a season-ending knee injury sustained in Week 10 of

12 WEEK 4 GAME REVIEW - PACKERS 28, LIONS 26 VICTORY DOESN T COME EASY Sometimes winning can be more like a matter of survival, and that s what the Green Bay Packers did on Sunday. They survived. That s why there wasn t exactly a euphoric feeling in the locker room following Sunday s victory over the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. The win was badly flawed and full of anxious moments against a currently winless team that hasn t won in the state of Wisconsin in 19 years. But the Packers won, thanks to an exhausted defense that got a stop in Green Bay territory midway through the fourth quarter and thanks to a frustrated offense that managed to milk the final 6 minutes, 32 seconds off the clock to seal it, preventing a 14-point second-half lead from getting away. There s nothing lucky about winning in this game, Head Coach Mike McCarthy said. I think our team showed a lot of resiliency, fought through a lot of tough spots. Players said even McCarthy had to remind them a couple of times that they won, because the post-game mood was so sour. McCarthy even quipped in his post-game press conference that it didn t feel like the Packers were 3-1 at the season s quarter pole. But the Packers will make no apologies. None are needed in the NFL. Not even when the Lions gain 170 more yards (431 to 261), run almost twice as many plays (78 to 40), convert seven more third downs (10 to 3), and possess the ball for more than a full quarter longer (37:37 to 22:23). Just ask the Atlanta Falcons, who needed a late field goal at home to squeak by the winless San Francisco 49ers, Or the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints, who topped the winless Carolina Panthers at home by that same score. The wins all count the same, even the ones that aren t all that satisfying. (McCarthy) knows we don t feel the way we need to feel right now off of a win, linebacker Nick Barnett said. We won the game, and we re excited about that, but at the same time we know that this performance needs to pick up. We need to be a better team. The Packers felt as though there d be no question who was better on Sunday with a lead early in the third quarter. The offense had scored on its opening drive of the game, as Aaron Rodgers hit Donald Driver for a 29-yard touchdown just 2:20 in, and it took advantage of a fumble deep in Detroit territory by Lions running back Jahvid Best on great penetration at the line of scrimmage by rookie defensive end Mike Neal to assume control. Rodgers fired a pinpoint pass over the middle against tight coverage to Jermichael Finley for a 13-yard score three plays after the fumble and then, following a three-and-out, went 68 yards in four plays for another TD. Driver s 48-yard grab when Rodgers knew he had a free play (the Lions jumped offsides at the snap) set up Greg Jennings 17-yard score and the Packers led 21-7 midway through the second quarter. The Lions countered with a 21-yard TD pass from Shaun Hill to Calvin Johnson with just eight seconds left in the first half, Johnson s second score of the game. But any momentum from that was snatched back on the opening drive of the third quarter, when Charles Woodson made a diving interception of Hill s pass, got up behind a convoy of blockers and raced 48 yards for a touchdown and a 14-point lead. It was a record-breaking touchdown for Woodson his eighth interception return for a score with Green Bay, breaking a tie with Herb Adderley in team annals and it had the 70,729 fans at Lambeau all fired up. But from there, smooth sailing it was not. Over the next 17½ minutes, the Lions had four drives and kicked four field goals to get close. During that span, Rodgers threw two interceptions and kickoff returner Jordy Nelson fumbled one away, the special-teams turnover giving the Lions a first down at the Green Bay 18-yard line trailing just But the defense rose up, forcing three straight incompletions from Hill (34-of-54, 331 yards, two TDs, two INTs, 77.0 rating) after a first-andgoal at the 6, which led to the fourth field goal to keep the Packers ahead, with 11:51 left. Anytime as a defense you can go back out and make a stand after a turnover, Packers cornerback Tramon Williams said, whether it s on the 20-yard line, whether it s on the 1-yard line, if you can make a stand, that can shift the momentum quick. Rodgers (12-of-17, 181 yards, three TDs, two INTs, rating) then tried to seize that momentum by firing deep to Jennings on the first snap of the ensuing drive, but it resulted in his second interception when cornerback Alphonso Smith outfought Jennings for the ball as they crashed to the ground. The Lions then drove all the way to Green Bay s 38-yard line, not far from kicker Jason Hanson s field-goal range, as Hanson had drilled a 52-yarder in the third quarter. But Woodson came up big, tripping up Best after just a 1-yard gain and then breaking up back-to-back pass attempts to Johnson (six catches, 86 yards, two TDs) to force a punt with 6½ minutes left. If you want to be a good team, you want to be a team that is known to go out in adverse situations and come up big, then that s what you ve got to do, said Woodson, who led the team in tackles and played superbly despite Johnson s productive day. It doesn t matter if he throws a pick, if Jordy fumbles, it doesn t matter. Defensively we still have to go out and do our job, and we did a great job today throughout that second half of just keeping them to field goals, and getting off the field late in the game when we needed to. The offense finally did its job, too, picking up five consecutive first downs having not recorded one since 7 minutes remained in the third quarter to kill the rest of the clock. Running back John Kuhn carried seven times for 34 yards on the drive and Rodgers moved the chains with completions to Driver (three catches, 89 yards) and Donald Lee. Kuhn s 8-yard run on third-and-7 with under a minute left and Detroit out of timeouts made it official. To finish that game right there, I thought was a real statement for our offense, McCarthy said. We had plenty of tough moments through the game, but to finish the game off like that is something we can build on. The Packers will need to, because there are two ways to look at a game like Sunday s, and both have value. There s one school of thought that says the Packers can t afford to continue playing like this, giving up so many yards on defense, sputtering at times on offense, and turning the ball over too much. All true. But there s also the view that teams that go somewhere when it s all said and done are battle-tested and can find ways to win when they don t play their best. It s not the easy way, but it s worth something. These are the type of wins that we need, Woodson said. I don t think you feel like, We re glad the game s over and we snuck out of there. You re going to need games like that down the stretch. It s going to be a long season, and they re not all going to be blowouts of course. You ve got to win some close games, and today was a close one. We won. 11

Though the 2010 opponents have been known since the end of last season, the arrival of the complete NFL schedule is a day circled on the calendar of all football fans. Green Bay opened the 2010 slate on the road at Philadelphia before kicking off the home schedule with the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Its first prime-time appearance against the rival Bears in Chicago on Monday Night Football came in Week 3. The NFL s oldest rivalry was on display in prime time for a fifth straight season, with this first meeting of the year marking game No. 180 in the all-time series marks the 18th consecutive season the Packers have appeared on Monday Night Football, the NFC s longest streak. Three games are slated for Sunday night on NBC, including home games against the Minnesota Vikings (Week 7) and Dallas Cowboys (Week 9). In Week 15, the Packers are scheduled to take on the Patriots on Sunday night in Foxborough, though the game is subject to the NFL s flex scheduling. The Packers will get their first look at the new stadium in New Jersey in Week 8 against the Jets, where they may experience some cool fall temperatures. While games at Lambeau Field later in the season always provide a home-field advantage for the Packers, the 2010 schedule is nearly void of cold-weather road games. After the Jets, three consecutive road contests will be played in domes (Minnesota, Atlanta, Detroit). That s good news for a Green Bay offense that seems to thrive in domes. Including playoffs, the Packers played in a dome five times last season, exceeding 400 total net yards in four of those games. A number of games on the Packers 2010 schedule namely those on national TV are beginning to have a familiar feel. In addition to taking on the Bears for a fifth consecutive year in prime time, Green Bay will take on Minnesota in prime time for a third straight season. The Packers and Cowboys will meet on national TV for the fourth straight season. The schedule concludes with two home games for the first time since One of the NFL s best teams in regular-season games played in December and January, Green Bay may need to call upon that previous success for what could prove to be two very important contests surrounding the Christmas and New Year s holidays. Games against the Giants (Week 16) and Bears (Week 17) could determine not only the NFC North Division crown but conference playoff seeding SCHEDULE NUGGETS Green Bay s bye week comes in Week 10, the latest possible week for NFL teams. It marks the latest time in which the Packers have had a bye in franchise history, besting the Week 9 bye in The Packers will play nine games before the bye and seven after the open date. Three of four games before the bye come at Lambeau Field, while four of five games after the bye are road contests. Immediately following the bye comes an important division game against Minnesota, the first of three straight road games played in domes. Under McCarthy, the team has won three of four games after the bye week and 10 of its last 14 after the bye dating back further. Green Bay has always been a successful team after the bye and 2009 was no different, as the team compiled a 9-3 (.750) mark after the bye week. Since 2000, the team is (.629) overall after the bye. Fifteen games are slated for Sunday, the most since 1993 (also 15). Seven of the final eight games are against NFC opponents. The Packers have six games on the schedule against 2009 playoff teams, including Week 1 at Philadelphia. Beginning in Week 7 vs. Minnesota, Green Bay has a stretch of four straight games against playoff teams from a year ago. The team will travel east to take on the Jets in Week 8 and host the Cowboys in Week 9 before the bye. The stretch concludes in Minnesota in Week 11. The NFL s oldest rivalry will see a first in For the first time in series history, Green Bay will host Chicago in the regular-season finale, set to be game No. 181 between the Packers and Bears.
