Off to a 5-0 start for the first time in nine seasons, Cal needs a win over the Bruins to post the Bears first 6-0 record since the 1950 squad began 9-0 under head coach Pappy Waldorf. Cal s current 12-game regularseason win streak is second in the country to USC (26) and Virginia Tech (13), while the Bears have won their last eight Pac-10 games to tie for the seventh-longest active conference streak in the nation. Although Cal lost eight starters off of its 2004 defense, the Bears have replenished their ranks and now lead the Pac-10 in three defensive categories: passing efficiency (92.11), total defense ( ypg) and LIVE COVERAGE Television: TBS Ron Thulin (play-byplay), Charles Davis (analyst) and Craig Sager (sideline). Cal is also second to Washington State in rushing defense (92.00 ypg) after allowing Arizona just 37 yards on 28 attempts last Saturday. In shutting out the Wildcats, 28-0, the Bears increased their string of not allowing an offensive touchdown to 10 quarters, dating back to the second quarter vs. Illinois Sept. 17. Cal has also outscored its opponents in second halves this season, surrending just a third-quarter TD to Washington in week two. On offense, sophomore TB Marshawn Lynch returned to the field vs. Arizona after missing two weeks due to a broken finger, rushing for 107 yards and a score on 20 carries. With his effort, Lynch is averaging an even ypg on the ground, but still ranks second on the team to sophomore Justin Forsett, who has run for ypg. Cal s team average of 6.4 yards per carry is ahead of the school record of 6.1 ypc set last season. Junior QB Joe Ayoob enjoyed an efficient 14-for-20 day against the Wildcats. Since beginning the season 0-for-13 with one interception, Ayoob is WEEK SIX PAGE 1

He has arrived. In just three seasons, he has transformed the Golden Bears from 1-10 into last season s 10-2 squad. He has earned Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors twice in his first three seasons with the Golden Bears (2002 and 2004), and has led Cal to a record. After taking over as the program s 32nd head coach in December 2001, he led the rebound from a 1-10 team in 2001 to a 7-5 club in 02. In 2003, Tedford directed the Bears to an 8-6 mark and the school s first bowl win over Virginia Tech in the Insight Bowl in 10 years. The 2004 squad finished second in the Pac-10, earned a berth in the Holiday Bowl and claimed a No. 9 final national ranking. Tedford began his coaching career in 1989 as an offensive assistant with the CFL s Calgary Stampeders. In 1992, he returned to his alma mater, Fresno State, as quarterback coach. A year later, he was elevated to offensive coordinator, a position he held through Tedford then served four seasons as offensive coordinator at Oregon, helping the Ducks to a combined record and a Pac-10 title in A native of Downey, Calif., Tedford was a record-setting quarterback as a player at Fresno State, graduating with a degree in physical education in Polls Past California enters the Arizona game ranked in the national polls for the 18 th consecutive week, every week since the 2004 preseason poll. It is the longest such streak for the Bears since they entered the polls in the middle of the 1949 season and remained there until November of 1952 during the heyday of the Pappy Waldorf era. That streak included 36 straight appearances by the Bears as a ranked team. California s last appearance as a non-ranked team came Dec. 26, 2003, in the Insight Bowl. Cal won that game, Our Ranking vs. Your Ranking Not only does the Bears-Bruins clash feature a unique battle of unbeaten teams, it is one of just five games on Saturday between ranked opponents. The others include No. 25 Virginia (USA Today) vs. No. 18 Boston College, No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 8 Tennessee, No. 6 Ohio State vs. No. 16 Penn State and No. 25 Oregon vs. No. 17 Arizona State. 5 CALIFORNIA COACHING STAFF George Cortez (Texas A&M 73), 4th Yr. Offensive Coordinator/QBs (PRESS BOX) Under Cortez, Cal has posted three of the four highest scoring seasons in school history, and the Bears have claimed Pac-10 rushing titles in each of the past two years the first time Cal has led the Pac-10 in rushing since Bob Gregory (Washington St. 87), 4th Yr. Defensive Secondary Under Williams, the 2004 defensive secondary was the Pac-10 s deepest and most accomplished unit. And Then There Were Twelve When the dust had cleared on Saturday, only 12 teams were left without a loss as the college football campaign hits midseason. Eleven of the 12 unbeatens are nationally ranked entering this weekend. Seeking Six The California Golden Bears head to Pasadena seeking to make a little history, or at least repeat a pleasant bit of it. The Bears are 5-0 for the first time since 1996, but for the fourth time since The 6-0 getaway, however, is reaching into rarified air. California s last 6-0 start came in 1950 and that squad, coached by Pappy Waldforf, would go on to finish and earn a spot in the Rose Bowl. In fact, California s last three 6-0 starts came in 1948, 1949 and Each of those squads went on to play in the Rose Bowl. Streaking Is In California has now won 12 straight regular-season games, dating back to an Oct. 9, 2004, loss at top-ranked Southern California (23-17). It is the longest winning streak for Cal since the Bears reeled off 33 straight wins from Nov. 1, 1947, to Nov. 25, One Year And Counting California has gone nearly one full calendar year since its last regular-season loss on the football field. The Bears last tasted defeat during the season on Oct. 9, 2004, in a loss at No. 1 USC. In fact, the Bears successful run is the third longest winning streak in the country when excluding bowl results. Two of those streaks reside in the Pac-10 with the last regular-season losses by both Southern California and Cal coming against each other. Overall, California is 18-2 since Nov. 15, The Good Ol Days California s current march in the Pac-10 is historical. The Bears have won eight straight Pac-10 games for the first time ever. They are 2-0 in conference play for the first time under Jeff Tedford and the first time overall since Cal has not opened league with play with three straight victories since the 1991 squad, which finished the season 10-2, including a Citrus Bowl victory over Clemson. 6 TUESDAYS WITH TEDFORD On Tuesdays, Cal Media Relations hosts a Jeff Tedford Media Luncheon, which takes place in the Hall of Fame Room, located in Memorial Stadium. At 11:30 a.m., the opposing head coach will be available via phone. At approximately 11:45, Cal head coach Jeff Tedford will meet the media for his game-week news conference. Following the head coach, various Cal players will available for one-on-one interviews. That schedule should remain in place for each game week during the 2005 season. CAL RADIO NETWORK Cal games air live on KGO Radio (810 AM) in San Francisco and affiliate stations KKGO Radio (1260 AM, Los Angeles), KKGO Radio (540 AM, San Diego), KTKZ Radio (1380 AM, Sacramento), KESP Radio (970 AM, Modesto) and KNRO Radio (1670 AM, Redding). The pre-game show begins 30 minutes prior to kickoff. KGO is celebrating its 32nd season as the Golden Bears flagship station, and Joe Starkey is in his 31st season calling play-byplay. Former Cal QB Troy Taylor joins him with analysis, while Todd McKim provides sideline reports. Lee Grosscup and Dave Rosselli host a 30-minute postgame show, The Fifth Quarter, after each contest. The Jeff Tedford Show airs Wednesdays on KGO at 6:20 p.m. CAL SPORTS REPORT TV SHOW Cal Sports Report, a weekly TV show that showcases Cal football with features, highlights and interviews, airs on Comcast Sports Net in Northern California throughout the season. Hosted by Todd McKim, the program is shown several times each week: Thursdays at 6:30 and 11 p.m., Fridays at 3 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.. It was a game in which Cal recorded its third shutout of the Jeff Tedford era, limited the Wildcats to just 206 total yards and just 25:54 in time of possession. The Bears picked off three passes and allowed Arizona just 3.2 yards per play. The victory also marked the first time since the 1969 and 1970 seasons in which Cal has shutout an opponent in consecutive seasons. The last shutout victim in consecutive seasons was Washington State. In The Zone California s defenders have allowed just two offensive touchdowns in their two Pac- 10 games. Dating back to 2004, the Bears have allowed just three offensive touchdowns in four Pac-10 games. Cal has allowed just seven touchdowns in its last seven conference games and has kept three Pac-10 schools off the scoreboard during the current eight-game Pac-10 winning streak. Getting The Red Out The Bears have yielded points just seven times on 11 Red Zone appearances by the opponents (63.6 percent). Those 11 trips inside the 20 have resulted in just 29 points, including five field goals. The Bears produced a goal-line stand and blocked a field goal Saturday when Arizona reached scoring position. On the other side, Cal s offense has scored 114 points on 21 Red Zone trips, including 16 touchdowns. Current Conditions Real estate is not cheap in the Bay Area, and the most sought-after piece of property might be the California end zone. Entering the UCLA game, Cal has not allowed an offensive touchdown in 10 quarters, dating back to the second period of the Illinois game. For the season, the opposition has scored five touchdowns in five games, including a kickoff return for a score by New Mexico State. A Case For The Defense There should be several intriguing matchups Saturday in the Rose Bowl. Perhaps the most noteworthy will be the Cal defense against the high-powered UCLA offense. California leads the Pac-10 in three of the five major defensive categories and is at least third in every Defensive Rankings Category Allowing Nat. Rank. Pac-10 Rank. Keep in mind that Cal returned just three starters off of last year s defensive unit that ranked second in the league in scoring defense and third in total defense. Cal allowed 16 points per game last season and is giving up 10.6 points per outing this season. Starting Five California has given up just 53 points through the first five games of the season. That total represents the best start by a Bear defense through five games since 1968 when California gave up 32 points through its first five games. To date, the Bears have allowed two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns. PAGE 6 WEEK SIX

The Bears have allowed just three fourth-quarter points all season. First Half Second Half First Half Second Half Opponent Yards Allwd Yards Allwd Pts Allwd Pts. Allwd Sac. The Bears will head to Pasadena ranked No. 20 nationally in total defense, allowing just yards of offense per game. Cal is the only Pac-10 team listed among the nation s top 20 defensive units. Second Stanza The second-half domination of Cal held up again Saturday against Arizona as the Bears extended their second-half scoring advantage over the opposition to , including a eye-popping 77-3 in the fourth quarter. Youthful Thinking California entered the 2005 season with the fewest returning starters in the Pac-10 Conference. And the evolution continues for the youthful Bears. Consider that Cal s top three rushers will return next season and the two leading rushers are sophomores. The top three quarterbacks will return as will six of the team s top seven receivers (statistically speaking). Seven of the team s top nine tacklers entering the UCLA game will also return next year. Seventeen Cal s streak of consecutive games with at least one, 100-yard rusher continued against Arizona with Marshawn Lynch s 107-yard effort against Arizona. The Bears have had at least one runner crack the 100-yard mark in every game since the 2004 season opener. Four different backs have contributed during the streak including Lynch, J.J. Arrington, Justin Forsett and Marcus O Keith. California is 15-2 during the streak. Trusting Somone Over 30 Jeff Tedford recorded his 30 th win as head coach of the Bears against Arizona. His 30 wins in just 43 games makes him the third fasted coach in Cal history to reach 30 victories. His pace is surpassed only by Pappy Waldorf, who took 33 games, and Stub Allison, who reached 30 wins in his 37 th game. Winning By Plenty Cal enters the UCLA game with not only a 5-0 record, but a healthy margin of victory. The Bears are outscoring the opposition by 29.4 points per game. That figure ranks fifth in the country. Texas Tech leads the way with a average scoring advantage over its opponent. The Red Raiders are followed by USC (35.2), Texas (32.95), Virginia Tech (31.0) and Cal. WEEK SIX PAGE 7

Balancing Act The Bears stress balance on offense and apparently balance between offense and defense. The Bears reach week six of the season as one of just two schools ranked among the top 12 nationally in scoring offense and scoring defense. Cal is sixth in scoring defense, allowing just 10.6 points per game. The Bears are 12 th in scoring offense, generating 40.2 points per game. Texas Tech is the only other school to join the Bears among the national leaders in both categories. Tech is ninth in scoring defense and leads the country in scoring offense. By The Numbers Cal s scoring prowess since the arrival of Tedford is easily illustrated. Consider that since the opening game of the 2002 season, a span covering 43 games, California has: Scored at least 30 points 27 times - Scored at least 40 points 16 times - Scored at least 50 points seven times - Scored at least 28 points in every game this season. Drive Time If you like long scoring drives, or the big play, you just might find the California offense appealing this season. In five games, the Bears have covered at least 75 yards on a scoring drive a remarkable 15 times. The longest drive of the season has been the 94-yard march in Seattle, culminated by a 58-yard scoring strike from Joe Ayoob to Robert Jordan against Washington. To put those numbers in perspective, consider the fact that Cal s opponents have a total of 10 scoring drives of any distance all season. Points Of Emphasis California has become one of the most prolific scoring teams in America under Jeff Tedford. Cal has averaged 32 points per game each season since Tedford s arrival in Although the season is only four games old, the current Bears are not only carrying on that tradition, they are exceeding it with an average of 40.2 points per game. In fact, in the only two quarters in which the Bears have failed to score (the second period vs. Illinois and the third quarter at New Mexico State), Cal suffered a missed field goal. Connections on those kicks would have made the Bears perfect this season. A Balanced Diet California s offensive balance continues to be impressive. Cal enters the Arizona game averaging 259 rushing yards per game and 199 passing yards per game. Those numbers come on the heels of the 2004 totals that included rushing yards per game and passing yards per game. History Says Cal s rushing average of yards, should it be maintained, would be the best by the Bears since 1952 when Cal ran for 317 yards per contest. Cal is trying to average at least 250 rushing yards per game in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1951 and The Bears are the only team in the Pac-10 that generates more than half of its offense on the ground. Totally Speaking Cal is trying to reach another milestone in total offense. The Bears currently average of yards of total offense per game. Should that figure survive another six games and a possible bowl appearance, it would mark the first time Cal has averaged 400 yards of offense in three straight seasons since Land Rovers California s young team is being led by one of America s most dominating offensive lines. Despite some bumps and bruises up front, Cal has rushed for 799 yards over its last three games. The Bears have not one but two running backs averaging more than 100 yards per game and have already rushed for 15 touchdowns this season, including four by quarterback Joe Ayoob. Hitting 300 Cal s 311 rushing yards vs. New Mexico State was its best output of the season and the most by the Bears since the 2004 season finale at Southern Mississippi when Cal ran for 323 yards in a victory. BEARS BY POSITIONS Quarterback Cal s three QBs have combined for 999 yards and 10 TDs, with 813 and eight coming from Joe Ayoob. The junior transfer grabbed the reins in week 2 after starter Nate Longshore broke his ankle in the opener against Sacramento State. Ayoob has put up at least 120 yards each game and broken the 250-yard mark twice: 137 vs. Arizona, 284 at New Mexico State, 121 vs. Illinois and 271 at Washington. Ayoob has just two interceptions this season. Before his injury, Longshore had thrown for 131 yards completing 8 of 11 passes, including a TD. Steve Levy has thrown for 52 yards and a TD in limited time over three games. Running Backs Cal ranks seventh nationally in rushing offense. The Bears have amassed 1,297 yards on the ground in five games, which breaks down to an average of per game. Justin Forsett leads Cal with 585 yards this season, including 235 at New Mexico State and 187 against Illinois. Forsett s 235 yards in Las Cruces was the fourth-best performance by a running back in Cal history. Marshawn Lynch returned to the starting lineup against Arizona after sitting out weeks 3 and 4 with a broken finger. The Bears have scored 15 times on the ground, led by Forsett (4), Joe Ayoob WEEK SIX PAGE 9

Receivers Cal has produced two 100-yard receivers this season, Robert Jordan at Washington (192 yards) and DeSean Jackson at New Mexico State (130). Jordan s 11-catch, 192-yard, three TD-performance against the Huskies was a career best. The three first-half TD receptions tied a school record. The 192 yards represented the sixth-best single-game total in school history and the 11 catches were the most by a Bear since Geoff McArthur had 16 against Stanford in Jackson posted his career-high nine catches and 130 yards against the Aggies. Jordan leads the Bears with 268 yards and four TDs followed by Jackson (190 yards, two TDs). Offensive Line The Cal offensive front has continued to dominate this season. With four returning starters Marvin Philip (C), Ryan O Callaghan (RT), Andrew Cameron (LT) and Aaron Merz (RG) Cal has allowed its QBs and RBs to find their rhythm with plenty of protection. Behind the line, the Bears have continued their streak of 100-yard rushers for 17 games. Going into the Arizona game, the Bears had allowed just four sacks this season but gave up five against the Wildcats when a season of bumps and bruises may have taken a toll on the front wall. Seven players have started on the line: Cameron (LT), Erik Robertson (LG), Philip (C), Merz (RG), O Callaghan (RT), Bryan Deemer (RG) and Scott Smith (LT). Defensive Backs Cal backs have pulled in six INTs in five games, and all six have been recorded by either CB Daymeion Hughes or CB Tim Mixon. Hughes leads the Bears with four picks (tied for third nationally), which he has returned for 141 yards. He had two INTs against Arizona, and one each against New Mexico State and Washington. Mixon had one INT against Arizona and one at New Mexico State. Hughes leads the DBs in tackles with 25, followed by Donnie McCleskey (24). The Bears have broken up at least two passes in each of their first five games. Against Arizona, the Bears secondary posted a season-high five passes broken up. Linebackers Desmond Bishop has led the Bears in tackles in four of the first five games and is Cal s leading tackler overall. Two of Cal s linebackers have been in the top five tacklers in four of five games. LB have accounted for 15 of the Bears 32 TFL, with Mickey Pimentel leading the way (4). Bishop (MLB) and Foltz (OLB) have started all four games. Felder has started in place of an injured Van Hoesen (OLB) in weeks 3, 4 and 5. Van Hoesen returned to the lineup against Arizona. Defensive Line The Bears defensive front has recorded at least one sack in four of Cal s first five games. Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane been responsible for four of the Bears team total of 11 sacks. Three other linemen have each recorded one sack in 2005 Nu u Tafisi (DE), Fahim Abd Allah (DE) and Phil Mbokogu (DE). Six players have started at the four spots. Mebane and Tafisi have started all four games. Tosh Lupoi started at DE the first two weeks, and Mbokogu has started in his place after Lupoi sustained a knee injury at Washington. Abu Ma Afala started in Matt Malele s place against Illinois and New Mexico State, but Malele started against Arizona. Special Teams The Bears have blocked three kicks this season. Nu u Tafisi (Arizona) and Thomas DeCoud (New Mexico State) have each blocked a field goal, while Justin Moye blocked a punt against Sacramento State. Cal has had a punt return for touchdown twice this season. Against Sacramento State, DeSean Jackson took a punt 49 yards for a score. Against Illinois, Tim Mixon returned a punt 79 yards for a TD, which was the eighth longest return for touchdown in Cal history.david Lonie has put 14 of his 24 punts inside the 20. WEEK SIX

23 2005 California Football Game Recaps GAME ONE Sept. 3, p.m. (PST) - Comcast Memorial Stadium - Berkeley, Calif. - 65,938 VS. No. 19/20 California 41, Sacramento State 3 Sophomore TB Marshawn Lynch rushed for a career-high 147 yards on 24 carries and freshman DeSean Jackson scored a pair of touchdowns to lead California (#19 AP/#20 USA Today) to a 41-3 victory over Sacramento State Sept. 3 in Memorial Stadium. The crowd of 65,938 set a school record for opening day attendance, breaking the mark of 58,949 set last year vs. New Mexico State. On its first possession, Cal marched 81 yards in 10 plays, with QB Nate Longshore capping the drive with a 31-yard strike to Jackson. However, Longshore, who completed 8-of-11 passes for 131 yards, broke his left ankle late in the first half with the Bears leading just 7-3. Cal took a 10-3 halftime edge on Tom Schneider s career-long 49- yard field goal with 1:19 let in the second period. Cal then poured it on in the second half, scoring 31 unanswered points. Lynch had a two-yard TD run to give the Bears some breathing room, with Schneider adding a 27-yard field goal and WR Noah Smith catching a 46-yard TD pass from Steve Levy in the final 2:20 of the third quarter. After freshman Zack Follett recovered a fumble at the Sac State 12, FB Chris Manderino added a three-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter. Jackson then capped off the day with a 49-yard punt return for a touchdown. CALIFORNIA VS. UCLA - OCT. 8, ROSE BOWL FINAL STATISTICS SAC ST CAL First Downs 9 16 Rush. 24 GAME TWO Sept. 10, :30 p.m. (PST) - ABC Husky Stadium - Seattle, Wash. - 57,775 VS. No. 16/17 California 56, Washington 17 Sophomore WR Robert Jordan set career highs with 11 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns, as California (#16 AP/#17 USA Today) rolled its fourth straight win over Washington, 56-17, Sept. 10 in Seattle. The Bears tied a school record for points in a road game (also 56 points at Air Force in 2004), while Jordan matched the Cal mark with three TD receptions. In addition, his 192 receiving yards were the sixth-highest total in school history. All three of Jordan s scores came in the first half, with the final one a 58-yarder over the middle from QB Joe Ayoob. Ayoob, making his first career start, completed 17-of-27 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns, including a 14-yarder to TE David Gray. He overcame an interception on the first play from scrimmage to throw all four of his TD passes before intermission. Once in control of the game, the Bears attempted just seven passes after intermission. The victory was the fourth straight for California over Washington since the arrival of Jeff Tedford. 25 GAME THREE Sept. 17, p.m. (PST) - No TV Memorial Stadium - Berkeley, Calif. - 57,657 VS. No. 15/15 California 35, Illinois 20 Sophomore TB Justin Forsett ran for a career-high 187 yards and two touchdowns, and junior Tim Mixon returned a fourth-quarter punt for a score as California (#15 AP/#15 USA Today) rallied for a victory over Illinois Sept. 17 in Berkeley. After trailing by 10 points at halftime, Cal won its ninth straight home game with four touchdowns in 17 minutes spanning the final two quarters. Shortly after Forsett put Cal ahead, 21-17, with a two-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter, Mixon caught a punt in traffic and broke three tackles before Marcus O Keith s crushing block sprung him down the Cal sideline. O Keith rushed for a late score and caught a 26-yard TD pass from Joe Ayoob for the Bears. Cal went 80 yards for a score in just 1:59 to open the game, capped by Forsett s 5-yard TD run. But Illinois replied with an 80-yard drive capped by Pierre Thomas 1-yard plunge, then went ahead with a 16-play drive ending in Tim Brasic s dive early in the second quarter. With Ayoob completing 7-of-8 passes after the break, the Bears outscored the Illini, 28-3, in the second half. Linebacker Desmond Bishop paced the Cal defense with 11 tackles. 26 GAME FOUR Sept. 23, p.m. (PST) - ESPN Aggie Memorial - Las Cruces, N.M. - 11,312 VS. No. 14/13 California 41, New Mexico State 13 Justin Forsett ran for a career-high 235 yards, and Joe Ayoob rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another score to help California (#13 AP/#14 USA Today) beat New Mexico State, 41-13, Sept. 23 in Las Cruces, N.M. Cal, which improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1996, scored on its first two possessions. Forsett crossed the goal line from a yard out to finish the Bears opening drive that included a 54-yard pass from Ayoob to fullback Chris Manderino to NMSU s 13, while Ayoob connected with DeSean Jackson on a 41-yard strike to give Cal two TDs in the first 5:36 of the contest. Aggie freshman Chris Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a score, but that was the only time NMSU would reach the end zone. The Bears broke the game open with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, a seven-yard scamper by Ayoob and a two-yard plunge by tailback Terrell Williams. Forsett, who carried the ball 31 times, produced the fourth-highest rushing total in school history, a performance that came on the heels of a 187-yard rushing effort vs. Illinois the previous week. Jackson finished with 130 yards on nine catches, setting a Cal mark for receiving yards by a freshman. FINAL STATISTICS CAL NMSU First Downs Rush. 27 GAME FIVE Oct. 1, p.m. - TBS MemorialStadium - Berkeley, Calif. - 55,944 VS. No. 12/11 California 28, Arizona 0 Sophomore tailback Marshawn Lynch ran for 107 yards and a touchdown in his first game back from injury and California (#12 AP/ #11 USA Today) shut out Arizona for the second straight year, Junior quarterback Joe Ayoob threw for two scores and ran for one for the Golden Bears, who improved to 5-0 for the first time since Ayoob finished 14-for-20 for 137 yards, while sophomore tailback Justin Forsett added 74 yards on the ground. Ayoob also had two key scrambles on touchdown drives and showed off his mobility on his TD throw, being flushed to the right and reversing field to the left before connecting with sophomore wide receiver Robert Jordan on a 39-yard score that made it 21-0 midway through the third quarter. But the Bears did most of their damage on the ground. Lynch, who missed the previous two games with a broken finger, scored in the first quarter and gave Cal its 17th straight game with a 100-yard rusher. The Wildcats best chance to score came after Syndric Steptoe returned a punt 34 yards to the Cal 19 late in the third quarter. Arizona had a first-and-goal at the 2, but then lost two yards on a pair of runs and Richard Kovalcheck threw two incompletions to turn it over on downs. Coupled with the Bears 38-0 victory over UA last year in Tucson, Cal shut out an opponent in consecutive years for the first time since blanking Washington State in Defensively, Daymeion Hughes picked off two passes and Tim Mixon one for the Bears.
