(4-4, 2-3) Saturday, November 4, 5 p.m. (PT) Memorial Stadium ~ Berkeley, Calif. Perfect 10 s California had its most exciting victory of the season last Saturday as it edged Washington behind exceptional efforts from its pair of number 10 s - Marshawn Lynch and Desmond Bishop. Lynch, the running back in No. 10, tallied 203 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns while Bishop, the linebacker in No. 10, registered a career-high 16 tackles and the game-clinching interception. Trailing midway through the fourth quarter, the Golden Bears went to the gimpy Lynch (playing on two sprained ankles). On the final Bear drive of regulation, Lynch had two receptions for 32 yards and a 17-yard TD run to put Cal on top Washington knotted the game in the final seconds with a 40-yard deflected pass to force overtime and on the second play, Lynch burst over left tackle for a 22-yard score. The Huskies responded, driving to the six-yard line, but Bishop snared an interception at the goal-line to wrap up the exhilarating victory. Quarterback Nate Longshore completed 21-of-36 passes for 291 yards while receiver Lavelle Hawkins had six catches for 99 yards. The Bears had five interceptions in the game, including the seventh of the season by senior Daymeion Hughes. Linebackers Mickey Pimentel and Zack Follett were also impressive; Pimentel added a career-best nine tackles while Follett had eight takedowns and his first career interception. Junior placekicker Tom Schneider was also clutch with three field goals, including a career-long 50-yarder. Desmond Bishop ranks third in the Pac-10 with 9.4 tackles per game... despite missing the entire second halves of the Oregon and Portland State games due to injury, Lynch still leads the Pac-10 in rushing... in Pac-10 action, Longshore has completed 92-of-150 (61.3%) passes for 1,267 yards and 11 touchdowns... Jackson has 18 touchdowns in 19 career games... the Golden Bear offensive line has allowed just six sacks in the last seven games... the Bears held the ball for over 75 percent of the second half of the Oregon game... Cal football foes may have thought they could focus their attention away from Marshawn Lynch as the junior running back has been hobbled by an injured ankle. However, in the last two games, he has rushed for 302 yards on 46 carries. On Oct. 21 against Washington, Lynch took over the game in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Oakland product had 102 second-half rushing yards against the Huskies. In the final 6:50 of regulation and overtime, Lynch rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns while catching two passes for 32 yards to lead the Bears to the victory. His most amazing run actually came on a pass play in the third quarter. After taking the pitch and finding tight end Craig Stevens covered, he tucked the ball and reversed direction, dodging tacklers for a 14-yard gain to the two-yard line, setting up a Cal touchdown to knot the game at 10. The game marked Lynch s sixth 100-yard game this year and the 15th of his career, tying a Bear record. Despite missing the second halves of both the Oregon and Portland State games due to injury, he still leads the Pac-10 in rushing (113.4 yards per game, 12th in the nation) and all-purpose yards (153.0 per game, eighth in the nation). Darkside Desmond Desmond Bishop who talks about sucking the life out of opposing offenses, has been piling up huge numbers this season. The senior from Fairfield, Calif., ranks third in the Pac-10 with 9.4 tackles per game this year, including a career-high 16 in last Saturday s overtime victory against Washington. Bishop s biggest play of the UW game came on the final play of the game as he intercepted the Husky pass on the goal line to clinch the Golden Bear victory. A second-team All-Pac-10 selection last year, Bishop has registered double figures in tackles three times this year and also has a team-high 11 tackles for loss. Pickoff Patrol The Golden Bears intercepted five Washington passes in their last outing, the first time Cal has had five pickoffs since Oct. 31, 1987 in a 20-6 victory over Oregon. The Bears now rank second in the country with 18 interceptions this season. Senior cornerback Daymeion Hughes leads the team and is second in the country with seven interceptions while linebacker Desmond Bishop and safeties Brandon Hampton and Bernard Hicks each have two INTs. Longshore Directs Drive Quarterback Nate Longshore may not have thrown a touchdown pass in the thrilling overtime victory against Washington, but the sophomore was cool under pressure down the stretch. With the Golden Bears trailing 17-16, Longshore directed the go-ahead drive by converting a pair of third-and-10 s and a second-and-10. At third-and-10 from the Bears 33, he hit Robert Jordan with a bullet for 11 yards, then on third-and-10 from the Cal 44, he found Marshawn Lynch for an 11-yard conversion. He also connected with Lynch on a 21-yard screen play to move Cal into field-goal range before Lynch burst into the end zone. Linebacker Legion of Doom While Desmond Bishop has been piling up impressive numbers, he is just the leader of one of the best linebacking corps in the country. Against Washington, Cal s backers had 43 tackles, including seven for losses to go with three interceptions. In addition to Bishop s 75 tackles this season, sophomore Zack Follett has 39 tackles, followed by sophomore Worrell Williams with 38 takedowns. Both Follett and Williams tallied their first career interceptions on Saturday. Senior Mickey Pimentel has 35 tackles as well as an interception return for a touchdown (against ASU). Juniors Justin Moye and Greg Van Hoesen and sophomore Anthony Felder are also in double digits in tackles. The talent at the position has led linebackers coach Bob Foster to say that he does not have starters, he just has players. SERIES HISTORY: CAL v. 4 Cal Football Game Notes Page 4 A LOOK AT THE BRUINS has registered a 4-4 overall mark and a 2-3 league record with wins over Stanford and. The Bruins followed a heart-breaking loss to Notre Dame with a defeat at the hands of Washington State. The Bruins lost starting quarterback Ben Olson to a knee injury on Oct. 7 against. He was expected out four to six weeks from that date. Sophomore Patrick Cowan has stepped in and been solid, throwing for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Notre Dame. Junior tailback Chris Markey has 88.7 rushing yards per game to rank fourth in the Pac-10. Defensively, end Justin Hickman had three sacks against the Irish and now ranks second in the nation with 10.5 sacks. Bruce Davis, on the other side, has 6.5 sacks. Kicker Justin Medlock leads the nation with 18 field goals. The Bruins are second in the league in scoring defense (18.6) and eighth in scoring (23.2). They are allowing just yards per game, including a league-best 82.1 on the ground. is second in the league in turnover margin at +4 while holding opponents to just 23.4 percent on third downs. COACH KARL DORRELL Karl Dorrell is a graduate of 1987 who is in his fourth season at the helm of the Bruin program. Last year, Dorrell guided to just its seventh 10-win season in history, including a victory in the Sun Bowl. The 2005 Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year, he is the first Bruin coach to lead the team to bowl games in each of his first three seasons. Prior to taking over his alma mater, Dorrell was an assistant coach for three years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. He has 12 years of experience as a collegiate assistant coach at Washington (1999), Colorado ( ), State (1994), Colorado ( ), Northern ( ), UCF (1989) and (1988). The Leg From Las Lomas California placekicker Tom Schneider is another quiet stat sheet standout for the Golden Bears. Without drawing much attention, Schneider has scored 57 points for the Golden Bears. The Las Lomas High School graduate missed his first field-goal of the season (a 50-yarder) against Washington, but he was successful on three others, including a careerbest 50-yarder. He is now 7-for-8 on field goals and a perfect 36-of-36 on extra points. It s Pronounced FALL-ett Sophomore Zack Follett may be one of the few non-starters in the nation who will contend for all-conference honors this season. A freshman All-American last season, Follett is one of a group of play-making linebackers for the Golden Bears. On Saturday against Washington, he piled up eight tackles and his first career interception. In the last five games, the sophomore has 33 tackles, including six tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Perhaps the best game of his young career came against State when he recorded 10 tackles, including a pair of sacks, to go with a pair of forced fumbles. For the season, the Clovis, Calif., product has 39 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss. Free Football! The Washington game was just the ninth overtime game in California football history and the Golden Bears now have a 5-4 mark in those contests. The victory evened Jeff Tedford s record in overtime games at 2-2. He also guided the Bears to an unforgettable win over USC in three overtimes in First 5-0 Since 1950 California is now 5-0 in Pac-10 play; it is the first time the Golden Bears have opened league play at 5-0 since the 1950 season, the third of three straight undefeated conference seasons - as well as the third of three straight Rose Bowl appearances. Since 1950, the Bears have won more than five conference games just five times, including the 2004 season under Tedford, who has never had a losing season in league play. Third-Down Shutdown In the Oct. 14 victory at Washington State, California held the Cougars to an amazing 0-for-11 on third-down conversions. WSU was also just 2-for-6 on fourth down making them 2-17 (11.8%) after second down. Washington had more luck on third down this past Saturday, but still converted just 4-of-14 attempts. Over the last three games, Cal has held its opponents on third down 36-of-42 times (85.7%). For the season, Cal ranks third in the Pac-10 in opponent third-down conversion rate at 27.1 percent (26-of-96). Check Out the Numbers - DeSean Jackson Sophomore DeSean Jackson is proving himself to be one of the most dangerous players in college football. The wide receiver/punt returner has scored 10 touchdowns (eight receiving and two on punt returns) in eight games this year. For his career, the Long Beach product has scored 18 touchdowns (15 receiving, three on punt returns) in just 19 games. This year, Jackson has 36 receptions for 622 yards after leading the Bears with 38 catches for 601 yards last year. He is second in the Pac-10 in touchdowns (behind Marshawn Lynch) and tied for eighth in the nation with eight receiving touchdowns this year. PAC-10 LEADERBOARD The Golden Bears lead the Pac-10 in pass efficiency (146.9), passing (268.5), turnover margin (+10) and net punting (38.8), while ranking second in scoring (36.1), total offense (439.9) and punt returns (13.4). leads the league in rushing defense (82.1) while ranking second in total defense (296.5) and third in turnover margin (+4). Individually, Marshawn Lynch leads the Pac-10 in rushing (113.4), all-purpose yards (153.0) and touchdowns (11). Nate Longshore is atop the league in pass efficiency (151.7) and passing touchdowns (17). DeSean Jackson is second in the conference in touchdowns (10) and punt-return average (14.3) and fourth in receiving yards per game (77.8). Tom Schneider is tops in PATs (36-of-36). Daymeion Hughes leads the league in interceptions (7) and in passes defended (13). Desmond Bishop ranks third in the league in tackles per game (9.4 per game) while Zack Follett is second in forced fumbles (0.38).

Warren College...Fresno State Cerritos College Family...wife, Donna... sons, Taylor and Quinn Career Record /5th year Since Jeff Tedford was named the head coach of the Golden Bear football team after the 2001 season, it would not be an overstatement to refer to California s football renaissance over the past four years as one of the most impressive turnarounds in college football history. The Golden Bears were just 1-10 in 2001, but by 2004, Tedford had guided them to the top five in the Associated Press poll. California s attendance has jumped from approximately 33,000 fans per game in 2001 to more than 60,000 each of the past two seasons. The Bears have played in three bowl games in the last three years after playing in four bowl games the previous 22 seasons. In his first four years, Tedford led Cal to a record following a period in which the Bears had won a total of 13 games over four years. He has led Cal to three straight bowl games for the first time since the 1948, 1949 and 1950 seasons and four straight winning seasons for the first time since In those four seasons, he has twice been honored as the Pacific-10 coach of the year, becoming the first Cal coach to win the award twice. Over the last seven games, the sophomore has completed 129-of-204 (63.2%) passes for 1,792 yards and 17 touchdowns with just six interceptions. In Longshore s first five career Pac-10 games, he is 92-of-149 (61.7%) for 1267 yards and 11 scores. For the season, Longshore has a Pac-10 best efficiency rating (19th in the nation). Loooong-shore Nate Longshore and the Golden Bears have been especially deadly with the long ball this year. California has 43 pass plays of 20 yards or more while its opponents have just 22. Thirty-six of those deep ball have been thrown by Longshore, including 13 to sophomore DeSean Jackson. In addition to passing the ball, the Golden Bears have 34 other plays (rushing, punt returns, kickoff returns and interception returns) of over 20 yards. Opponents have 22 other long plays. Daymeion Hughes - Pick a Peck of Passes Senior Daymeion Hughes simply keeps on building on his reputation as the top cornerback in the nation. The Los Angeles product snagged his seventh interception of the season (second in the nation) on Saturday against Washington. It was a crucial pickoff as well, as his INT came in the end zone to stop a Husky drive. Hughes seven interceptions this season are tied for the second-most in a season at Cal while his 14 career thefts rank second as well in Golden Bear history. In addition, he has returned four of those interceptions for touchdowns. Stockton s Hawkins Wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, a product of Stockton, Calif., had a solid season in his 2005 debut with the Golden Bears by snaring 18 passes for 171 yards. However, with his strong showing thus far in 2006, Hawkins 2005 stats look like small change. The 5-11 junior now has 31 receptions for 498 yards in the first eight games of His top performances have come against Minnesota (9 catches for 125 yards), at Oregon State (6 catches for 128 yards) and against Washington (6 catches for 99 yards). Don t Blink Cal has 20 scores this year that have taken less than two minutes. The Golden Bears have had 15 scoring drives that have lasted less than 2:00 as well as three interception returns and two punt returns for touchdowns. O-Line Likes Longshore Despite losing three 2005 starters to the NFL and having two current starters miss games due to injury, the California offensive line is developing into a true strength for the Golden Bears. Both Washington State and State came into their games against Cal as the national leader in sacks and each managed just one sack against the Golden Bears. The Bears have allowed just nine sacks all season, including only six in the last seven games. Punting is Risky for Cal Foes Not only has DeSean Jackson established himself as a gamebreaking receiver, he is also a serious threat in the punt-return game. On Oct. 7 against Oregon, the sophomore put the game

In the last five games, Bear opponents have just six punt returns for 24 yards. Hampton had a career-high 10 takedowns against Oregon State while Hicks had a career-high eight stops against Oregon. Hampton, a former walk-on, is now second on the team in tackles with 47. Hicks, who made his first career start against Oregon State in place of the injured Thomas DeCoud, is fourth on the squad with 39 tackles. Both safeties have a pair of interceptions this year. Punting Power Junior-college transfer Andrew Larson has stepped right into the Division I game and shown some serious punting ability for California. The newcomer has punted 32 times for 1,366 yards - an impressive average of 42.7 yards per punt. However, his net punting is the true measure of his value. Opponents have returned just 11 punts for a total of 65 yards, giving Cal a Pac-10 best net-punting mark of 38.8 yards. Last season, with veteran David Lonie handling punting duties, the Bears had a net average of 36.7 yards per punt. Selling Out The Oct. 7 sell-out against Oregon marked just the fourth time in the last 50 years that California has sold out Memorial Stadium for a non-big Game. The other three sellouts all came against USC (1977, 1979 and 2005). The Golden Bears have sold out the Big Game against Stanford 14 times in the last 50 years. Building the Lead, Maintaining the Lead In the first six games of its current seven-game winning streak, California did not pile up giant second-half numbers. However, the Golden Bears have not needed big stats in the closing halves until Saturday against Washington, when they out-scored the Huskies, Over the six games before UW, the Bears had built an average halftime-advantage of 21.5 points: 21-3 v. Washington State, v. Oregon, 31-3 at Oregon State, v. State, v. Portland State and v. Minnesota. Cal has an overall advantage of in the first half of all of its games this year, while it is out-scoring its opponents in the second half. Spread the Wealth The Golden Bears have had 16 different players catch passes this season and 12 different players score touchdowns. Last year for the entire season, the Bears had just 14 players with receptions. The last time Cal had as many as 16 men with catches was 2004 when 18 had receptions. In the Portland State victory alone, Cal had 12 different players catch passes. Dating back to 1997, Cal has had just one game with as many as 10 different receivers catching passes. Defense Goes on the Offensive The Golden Bears had a pair of interception returns for touchdowns on Sept. 23 against State. Late in the first half, senior cornerback Daymeion Hughes picked off a Rudy Carpenter offering and returned it 47 yards to the end zone. Then in the fourth quarter, Golden Bear senior linebacker Mickey Pimentel put the exclamation point on the win with a 20-yard INT return for paydirt. It is the first time Cal has had two pickoffs returned for TDs since Aug. 31, 2002 against Baylor in the first game of the Jeff Tedford era at California. Forty for Five For the first time in California football history, the Golden Bears scored 40 or more points in five straight games. However, on Oct. 14 at Washington State, the Bears turned to defense instead, holding the Cougars without a touchdown in the 21-3 victory. Prior to this season, the Bears had broken 40 points in four straight games on two other occasions. During the 1993 season Cal piled up wins over San Diego State (45-25), Temple (58-0), San Jose State (46-13) and Oregon (42-41). Back in 1920 s undefeated season, Cal cruised to victories over the Mare Island Marines (88-0), St. Mary s (127-0), Nevada (79-7) and Utah (63-0). More on Longshore Nate Longshore s totals in the Minnesota game surpassed his career totals entering the game (19-of-31 for 216 yards and one touchdown). In fact, his stats through the first play of the second quarter (9-of-13, 134 yards, 2 TD) had already qualified as his best career game. His first touchdown of the game (to junior Robert Jordan) was his first TD delivery in 371 days and his 300 passing yards marked the first 300-yard game by a Bear QB since Aaron Rodgers threw for 394 yards vs. Virginia Tech in ,000 Fans Again Saturday s game against Washington (attendance of 58,534) marked Cal s 16th straight home game with over 50,000 fans. That streak includes every home game in 2004 and 2005 and is even more impressive when compared to the days before the current streak. In the first 13 home games under head coach Jeff Tedford (in 2002 and 2003), Cal attracted over 50,000 fans just twice. The Oregon game was the eighth game of 60,000+ fans under Tedford, nearly matching the total of nine from the 11 years prior to Tedford s arrival. Ticket Takers Since the arrival of Jeff Tedford, California s season ticket count has been on a steady climb. The Bears sold 16,200 season passes in 2002, Tedford s first year. His second season resulted in sales of 22,500. In 2004, the number again jumped substantially, up to a then-school-record 34,100. Last year, California set another mark with 40,134 season tickets sold and again this season, the record has been broken. The official season ticket number for 2006 is 40,262. Marshawn10.com Cal fans and the media can keep up with all the highlights of Marshawn Lynch s junior season by visiting com. The star tailback is a top candidate for numerous awards, including the 2006 Heisman Trophy. The website features highlight video from his first two seasons in Berkeley and will include highlights from each game of the 2006 campaign as the season progresses. Statistics, a complete bio and other information will offer fans and media the opportunity to get to know the running back. In addition, his honors and records and a list of quotes from college football experts, coaches and players from around the nation are available for perusal.

8 Cal Football Game Notes Page 8 Soon-to-be Graduates While California does not have any players on the team who have already earned their undergraduate degrees from Cal, 12 players are expected to earn degrees in December: Eric Beegun, Randy Bundy, Andrew Cameron, David Gray, Steve Kelly, Taylor Kunzi, Abu Ma afala, Tim Mixon, Marcus O Keith, Erik Robertson, Scott Smith and Byron Storer. Tyler Krieg has his undergraduate degree from Duke and is currently pursuing his master s degree at Cal. More TV Time The Oregon game was Cal s first as part of the ESPN on ABC package. It is the fifth different network to televise the Bears this year (Tennessee was on ESPN, Minnesota on TBS, Portland State on Comcast Sports and State on Fox Sports Net). All of the remaining California games - (ABC), (ABC), USC (ABC) and Stanford (Fox Sports Net) will be televised. Opening Loss Despite opening the season with a loss, history has shown success can still follow. The last two conference championship teams at California lost their season openers. In 1975, the Bears fell to Colorado on the road in their opener, but rebounded to finish 8-3 and share the Pac-8 Championship in 1975 behind star running back Chuck Muncie. In 1958, Cal lost to Pacific at home in the opener, but went 6-1 in league play to win the title and advance to the 1959 Rose Bowl behind star Joe Kapp. Start Me Up Fourteen different Golden Bears earned their first career starts in the first seven games this year. Redshirt freshmen Cameron Morrah (TE) and Syd Quan Thompson (CB) were both starters in their first collegiate games at Tennessee, while sophomore Alex Mack (C), senior Bryan Deemer (OG), junior Justin Moye (LB), junior Brandon Hampton (ROV) and junior Thomas DeCoud (FS) also had starting debuts against the Volunteers. In the Minnesota game, redshirt freshman Cody Jones (DL) started at defensive end for the first time. Sophomore offensive tackle Mike Tepper made his starting debut against Portland State. Against State, junior-college transfer Mike Gibson and senior Mickey Pimentel both made their first career starts, while sophomore Bernard Hicks and true freshman Tyson Alualu each made their starting debuts against Oregon State and Brian De La Puente made his first career start against Washington State. Cal Corrals Fifth Straight Winning Season Since posting the worst record at Cal in 104 years (1-10) in 2001, the Golden Bears have rolled to five straight winning seasons since the arrival of head coach Jeff Tedford. In Tedford s first season (2002), he guided the Bears to a 7-5 mark the school s first winning record in nine years. The 2004 club climbed as high as No. 4 in the nation and finished Last year, Cal won eight games and so far in 2006, the Bears are 7-1, marking the first time the Golden Bears have had five straight winning seasons in over 50 years (Pappy Waldorf s juggernaut teams reeled off six straight winning marks from ). Non-Conference Wrap-Up The Portland State game was the final non-league contest of the year for California. The Golden Bears have posted a 15-6 (.714) record against non-pac-10 foes under head coach Jeff Tedford. Bears No. 9 Preseason AP Ranking is Highest Since 1952 California s No. 9 ranking in the 2006 Associated Press Preseason College Football Poll was its highest preseason ranking since the 1952 team was ranked No. 8 in the nation. The No. 9 ranking is the third-highest overall preseason ranking for Cal behind Pappy Waldorf s 1951 and 1952 teams. The 1951 club was ranked No. 5 in the nation in the preseason. This season marks just the 10th year that Cal has held a preseason ranking from the AP, including the current stretch of three straight years. From 1955 to 2003, the Bears appeared just twice in the poll. Under head coach Jeff Tedford, California has been ranked No. 13 (2004), No. 19 (2005) and now No. 9 in AP Preseason Polls. Cal in Preseason AP Poll 1950: No : No : No : No : No : No : No : No : No : No. 9 Twenty-Something The Bears have won 26 games over the past three seasons (26-12). It is the most victories by California over a three-year period since the teams combined to win 27 games. Nationally, Cal s 18 wins over the last two years rank 13th nationally, and the 26 wins during the three-year period is No. 18 in the country. Power Points In the four years under Jeff Tedford, the Golden Bears have averaged 34.4 points per game, by far the most in any four-year stretch in school history. In fact, Tedford-coached teams own four of the top five slots in single-season scoring in the modern era of football in Berkeley. Lynch rushed for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but proved his full value in crunch time. On the Bears final drive in regulation, the junior had two receptions for 32 yards and then rushed over right tackle for a 17-yard score with 1:52 to go. The ensuing two-point conversion gave the Bears a advantage. After the Huskies forced overtime, Cal ran one short pass play before handing off to Lynch again and the Oakland product went over right tackle for 22 yards and what proved to be the game-winning score. Lynch averaged 7.1 yards per carry and also had four receptions for 53 yards in the victory. The game was his 15th career 100-yard game to move him into a tie for first in Cal history with Russell White and Chuck Muncie. Defense Desmond Bishop (Sr., LB, Fairfield, Calif./San Francisco CC) Desmond Bishop turned in one of the most dominating defensive performances of the year in Saturday s California win over Washington. The top highlight was the linebacker s interception at the goal-line in overtime to clinch the victory, however, he also tallied a career-best 16 tackles with four tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Bishop had five tackles in the fourth quarter alone, including a key stop on third down with seven minutes remaining and the Bears trailing by one. For the year, Bishop has 75 tackles and 11 tackles for loss, both team-bests. Special Teams Tom Schneider (Jr., PK, Walnut Creek, Calif./Las Lomas HS) Tom Schneider has one of his best performances as a Golden Bears on Saturday in California s overtime victory against Washington. The junior booted three field goals in the game, including drilling a career-long 50 yarder. His first three-pointer put the Bears on the board for the first time in the second quarter and then his 50-yarder pulled Cal within three at in the third quarter. His third field goal, a 29-yarder pulled the Bears within one at with 10:21 to go in the game. He was also two-for-two on extra point attempts. On the season, Schneider is a perfect 36-of-36 on extra points and 7-of-8 on field goals.
