It will be a new-look Wolf Pack team this season as it will have eight suit up who have not previously played in a game for the Pack. The team has already lost starting point guard T Moe for the duration of the season, however with 10 guards behind her the transition should be smooth. That transition will be put to a tough test to open the campaign facing the Toreros of USD. San Diego will begin the year ranked No. 13 in the College Insider Mid Major top-25 preseason poll. The Toreros are coming off of their fourth consecutive 20-win season and a trip to the second round of the WNIT. USD returns three starters from last year s squad highlighted by first team All-WCC selection Malina Hood. Friday, November 13, :30 p.m. Lawlor Events Center Reno, Nev. Schmid was tabbed as the Mountain West Co-Newcomer of the Year when the conference announced its preseason poll and awards. The 5-10 guard transferred to Nevada from Arizona Western College where she hit more than 200 shots from three-point range and connects on nearly 91 percent of her free throws. In needing help to generate more points, Nevada has its expectations on Schmid being the person to deliver. BY THE NUMBERS 4 - Wins shy of 500 career victories for Jane Albright 8 - New players to officially suit up for Nevada this season 10 - Where Nevada was picked to finish in the Mountain West 11 - Number of guards listed on the Wolf Pack roster (16 total players) Pack s scoring defense last year, ranks seventh all-time LAST TIME OUT Behind a balanced scoring attack and strong second half, the Nevada women s basketball team cruised to an exhibition win over Chico State last Saturday. In the new four quarter format, the Wolf Pack produced two scorers in double figures as newcomer Stephanie Schmid totaled a game-high 19 points and senior Julia Shelbourn collected 11 points. Schmid put her three-point shooting on display as she nailed 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and also hit 5-of-6 from the foul line. Shelbourn was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and added four rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist to her afternoon. As the game got underway, Nevada jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the first Wildcat basket and took a seven-point lead into the second quarter. Period two belonged to Chico State and was the only quarter that the Wildcats outscored the Pack. At the 6:24 mark of the period, the Wildcats gained their first lead of the contest, sinking a free throw to take a advantage. As the quarter and half drew to an end, Schmid knocked down her first three to give her team a one-point lead with 90 seconds remaining. Chico State returned the favor with a long range shot of its own with 32 ticks on the clock, tying the score at 29. On its final possession of the opening half, senior Kelsey Kaelin was sent to the line and sunk both free throws, giving Nevada a halftime lead. The second half was all Wolf Pack as the team shot just shy of 55 percent. The third quarter was the benchmark period for Nevada, outscoring its opposition by a margin. During six minutes of that quarter the Pack manufactured a 19-0 run that helped generate a comfortable lead. For the game, Nevada connected on 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the free throw line, well above its season average from last year. Additionally, the Pack posted 10 blocks (one shy of the single game record) and got 33 points from its bench. Teige Zeller, AJ Cephas, Riana Everidge and Kaelin all recorded eight points each and Everidge added nine rebounds in her first taste of college basketball. Zeller and Cephas both tallied seven boards as well. All-in-all, 10 Pack players found the scoresheet and posted at least one rebound NEVADA WOMEN S BASKETBALL - PAGE 3

Moe, who missed 26 games last year due to a knee injury, will again have knee surgery and begin rehab, cutting her season well short. Since its inception in 1899, records of the program s history have not accurately been kept up to date. For the purposes of all records, wins and losses and other statistical information related to the Nevada women s basketball program, the season will be considered the first for the program, the first year women s basketball was recognized by the NCAA. WOLF PACK ORIGIN In the athletic season, a local writer described the spirited play of a Nevada team as a pack of wolves. The name stuck and soon almost every reference to the athletic teams was the Nevada Wolves. In 1923, the students officially designated Wolves as the school s mascot. Since all teams are a group of players, the word pack followed quickly. In , the Nevada student handbook referred to the athletic teams as Wolf Pack and two school songs were adopted, entitled The Wolf Pack and Here Comes the Wolf Pack. Beginning a game... 7 HEAD COACH JANE ALBRIGHT Eighth season at Nevada 32nd overall season Jane Albright is set to begin her eighth season as the head coach of the Nevada women s basketball team in , and her 32nd overall season. She enters the upcoming season with 496 career wins, four shy of eclipsing 500. Albright and the Wolf Pack endured an injury-plagued season in , but still managed a few noteworthy accomplishments. As the Mountain West schedule got underway, Nevada knocked off in-state rival UNLV thanks to a home win, the first victory over the Rebels during Albright s tenure. It was a decorated campaign for senior Mimi Mungedi as well as she became Nevada s second WNBA draft pick under Albright, taken 25th overall by the Tulsa Shock. In addition, Mungedi was named the MW Defensive Player of the Year for a second straight season. After a couple of rebuilding seasons, Albright s Wolf Pack squad posted an 18-win campaign and compiled 12 victories in the Mountain West, setting a program record for most conference wins in a singleseason. The team also set a program record for free throws made (529) and free throws attempted (760), among registering its highest scoring average (71.5 ppg) since the season. Thanks to an 8-2 run in the final 10 games of the regular season, the Pack secured the No. 3 seed for the Mountain West Championships, and reached the semifinals round of the tournament. Albright coached three members of the squad to all-conference honors, including the league s Co- Defensive Player of the Year, Mimi Mungedi. Following the season, Albright received the 2014 Carol Eckman Award presented by the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) at the NCAA Women s Final Four. The award is presented annually to an active WBCA member coach who exemplifies Eckman s spirit, integrity and character through sportsmanship, commitment to the studentathlete, honesty, ethical behavior, courage and dedication to purpose. She became the program s all-time winningest first-year head coach finishing the season with an overall record and a 10-6 mark in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Pack made the program s first-ever appearance in the final of the WAC Tournament after tying the program record for highest-seed earned in the tournament with a No. 3 seed. The Pack also recorded a program-best start to conference play, opening 7-0. Albright led the team to a defeat of No. 7 Louisville to win the championship of the John Ascuaga s Nugget Classic in Reno, the program s first-ever defeat of a nationally-ranked opponent. Additionally during her first year at Nevada, she coached the WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, the WAC Defensive Player of the Year, an All-WAC first team honoree, the Ruth Russell Award winner for the top, senior, female student-athlete at Nevada, five academic All-WAC honorees and a regional finalist for the NCAA Division I State Farm Coaches All-America team. After the season, Albright was honored at the Final Four by the WBCA with the Kay Yow Heart of a Coach Award which is presented annually by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) to honor a basketball coach who has exemplified biblical principles over the course of his or her career. Her second year at the helm had a similar feel to her first season. She coached a young squad in to an overall, 10-6 WAC record and a third place league finish. Nevada once again earned the third seed for the WAC Tournament and an automatic bid to face Wyoming in the WNIT, only the second postseason appearance in the Pack s history. In , Albright guided Nevada to its first 20-win season in program history, finishing The squad accomplished the feat with benchmark wins over NC State and San Diego State at the John Ascuaga s Nugget Classic, followed by home wins over Arizona, BYU and Louisiana Tech. Albright s strong coaching earned the team a postseason WNIT bid in which the team defeated St. Mary s to record its first-ever WNIT victory. The team set program records for points (2,228) and rebounds (1,364) in a single-season, as well. She picked up her 400th career win on Nov. 28, 2008 when Nevada defeated Northern Iowa and is just 13 victories shy of 500. Albright s 90 victories at the helm of Nevada ranks her second all-time in the Wolf Pack record books. During her six-year tenure at Nevada, Albright has coached three all-conference Defensive Player of the Years, four All-WAC first team selections, a WAC Newcomer of the Year, two allconference second team honorees, two All-Mountain West honorable mentions and a regional finalist for the NCAA Division I State Farm All-America Team.
