Aug at Rice - 4:30 PT/6:30 CT CBS Sports Network (Practices begin at 11 am and last approx. 2 hours) UCLA Opens Season At Rice On Thursday Seven Home Games on the Schedule Nebraska Comes to Rose Bowl on Sept. 8 SEASON OPENER UCLA opens its 94th season of football, under the direction of first-year head coach Jim Mora, with an Aug. 30 game in Houston against the Rice Owls. Kickoff is set for 6:36 p.m. CT/ 4:36 PT and the game will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan and Ron Zook in the booth and Evan Washburn on the sideline. AM 1150 (KTLK) and the Bruin IMG Radio Network (Chris Roberts, Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook) will radio broadcast the contest. The game will also be aired nationally on SIRIUS XM (Ch. 138). This is the second straight season in which UCLA will open the season in Houston, TX. Last year, the Bruins met the University of Houston. UCLA leads the series with Rice 4-0, with the last meeting taking place in the 2006 season at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins captured that contest by a score of UCLA totaled 338 yards on the ground (208 yds by Chris Markey, 102 by Kahlil Bell) in the win. The Bruins jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead before Rice narrowed the gap to at the end of three quarters. The second of two Drew Olson touchdown passes on the day helped to put the Owls away, an 18-yard toss to Brandon Breazell with eight minutes to play. ROSE BOWL: THE 31st YEAR The 2012 season marks the 31st year that the Rose Bowl, currently undergoing a renovation, will serve as home of the Bruins. The focus of the renovation project is to expedite tunnel ingress/egress, improve concourse circulation, increase the number of concession stands and restrooms, provide state-of-the-art premium seating products in a rebuilt press box and install a new scoreboard and video board. UCLA moved to Pasadena from the L.A. Coliseum in the summer of 1982 and went in that first year, capping the season with a victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl game. The 2006 season-opening win against Utah was UCLA s 100th at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins own a record of since moving to Pasadena, including a 3-2 record in Rose Bowl games. In July of 2007, the Rose Bowl was selected the No. 1 sports venue by SI.com/SIon- Campus. The Bruins welcome back six players who started the bulk of the games at their defensive positions in 2011 and seven more on the offensive side of the ball who were on the field for the first snap in the majority of games. Returning players with 20 or more starts under their belts include -- Offensive lineman Jeff Baca (33), running back Johnathan Franklin (32), defensive cornerback Sheldon Price (32), defensive end Datone Jones (29), quarterback Kevin Prince (26), defensive cornerback Aaron Hester (24), linebacker Damien Holmes (20). Also back is Y receiver Joseph Fauria who led the team with six touchdown grabs last season. Linebackers Eric Kendricks and Jordan Zumwalt, who ranked second and third, respectively, on the team in tackles last season return. Interception leaders Andrew Abbott (4) and Tevin McDonald (3) move back into the secondary. Punter Jeff Locke, one of the nation s best, is primed for a standout season. A LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE The combined record of UCLA s 2012 opponents was (.539) in Houston (13-1 record last season) finished first in the nation in pass offense (450.07), total offense (599.07) and scoring (49.29) in 2011 and fourth in the country in turnover margin (1.14). Nebraska (9-4) ranked 15th in the nation in rushing offense (217.23) last season and returns running back Rex Burkhead who ranked 19th in rushing (104.38). NU kick returner Ameer Abdullah rated ninth in the nation in kickoff returns with a average. Rice (4-8, win over Purdue) ranked 20th in the nation in turnover margin (0.67) and defensive back Bryce Callahan was tied for seventh in the nation in interceptions (0.50/g). MID-WEEK GAMES UCLA will play this season at Rice on a Thursday night. Last season, UCLA played at Arizona on a Thursday evening. In the 2010 season, the Bruins played three non-saturday games - Oct. 21 at Oregon, Nov. 18 at Washington and Nov. 26 at Arizona State. Prior to 2010, the last time the Bruins played a regular-season non-saturday game was Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Arizona State, dropping a 34-9 decision. The Bruins also played a Monday night game that year, defeating Tennessee, in overtime on Labor Day night. Before 2008, UCLA had not played on a week night since Thurs., Sept. 30, 1993, a victory at San Diego State. The Bruins also played at San Diego State on Thurs., Sept. 26, 1991 (won, 37-12). 2

Oregon L, QUARTERBACK Redshirt freshman BRETT HUNDLEY (#17) graduated early from Chandler HS in Chandler, AZ and joined the Bruins in Winter Quarter 2011(January). He took part in spring practice at UCLA, but was limited in the 2011 fall camp due to a summer knee injury. Hundley did not see action in the 2011 season. He participated in a second spring practice in 2012 and won the starting job in pre-season camp. He threw for 2,348 yards as a senior in high school with 20 scoring passes, two interceptions. He also led his team in rushing with 856 yards and nine touchdowns. Following his senior prep season, he won the passing competition at the UnderArmour All-America Game Skills Challenge. As a junior, he threw for 1,517 yards and 16 touchdowns with two interceptions. Hundley rushed for 1,208 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named Arizona s Gatorade Player of the Year in Redshirt senior KEVIN PRINCE (#4) started the last eight games (10 starts overall) of the 2011 season. He completed his junior season ranked among UCLA s alltime best in total offense (8th), pass completions (8th) and passing yards (9th). Prince finished up with 424 yards rushing for the 2011 season (most by Bruin qb since Jeff Dankworth racked up 815 in the 1976 season. His 163 yards rushing v. Cal marked the first time a Bruin quarterback had rushed for at least 100 yards in a game since Jeff Dankworth in It was the most rushing yardage by a quarterback since John Sciarra totaled 178 versus Tennessee in In 2010, Prince appeared in five games, all starts. He was sidelined for the balance of that season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Oct. 23.In 2009, Prince started all 11 games in which he played. He became the second freshman quarterback in UCLA history to pass for over 300 yards three times in a season (Tommy Maddox, 1990). Varsity Passing Statistics - K. He came off the bench against Texas and then started games at Oregon and at Stanford. He suffered a broken leg after starting game six against Washington State and was sidelined until late in the season. He came back for a brief appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game and threw his first interception in 141 passing attempts. In 2010, Brehaut appeared in nine games, with seven starts. He started the final six games of the season. At Arizona State, he set school records with his 33 pass completions (old record, 32 by Troy Aikman v. USC in 1988) and 56 pass attempts (old record, 51 by Dennis Dummit v. Cal in 1970). He also set personal bests with 321 passing yards and three touchdown passes. Varsity Passing Statistics - R. Brehaut Year Att Comp Int Yds TD LG , Totals , OFFENSIVE LINE Redshirt senior JEFF BACA (#60), the team leader with 33 career starts, started at tackle for 11 contests last season before sliding to guard against Illinois in the bowl game. In 2009, he started all 13 games at left guard. In 2008, he appeared in nine games with eight starts at left tackle. Redshirt junior GREG CAPELLA (#64) lined up at guard for 13 games and moved in at center for the San Jose State game in True sophomore XAVIER SU A-FILO (#56) returns to UCLA after serving a two-year Mormon mission. He re-enrolled in school for the 2012 Winter Quarter and was back on the field in the spring. In 2009, he started all 13 games at left tackle which was the most starts by a Bruin true freshman at any non-kicking position. Su a-filo became the first Bruin true freshman to start a season-opener on the offensive side of the ball and earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors. Redshirt freshman JAKE BRENDEL (#54) is a candidate to start at the center position. He was named Coach Ed Kezirian "Coach K" Award winner for Academic and Athletic Balance. Brendel recorded 71 knockdown blocks, 31 fi nishes and allowed no sacks as a prep senior. Redshirt freshman TORIAN WHITE (#77) enjoyed a solid spring and will look to work his way into the lineup at tackle. Redshirt senior BRETT DOWNEY (#78) was a member of the Bruin special teams unit for placekicks in 2011 and appeared in two games at tackle. He made his first career start (OT) in the bowl game against Illinois. RUNNING BACKS Redshirt senior tailback JOHNATHAN FRANKLIN (#23) has started 24 games over the past two season, including 14 last year, while rushing for 2,103 yards. He enters the 2012 season in ninth place on the all-time UCLA career rushing list with a total of 2,669 yards. Franklin, who owns ten 100-yard rushing days for his career, ran for a career-best 216 (30 carries) in a 2010 contest against Washington State (most since Maurice Jones-Drew ran for 322 at Washington in 2004). In 2010, Franklin appeared in all 12 games and made 10 starts. He led the Bruins in rushing with 1,127 yards (5.3 ave), the 10th-best season mark in school history. He became UCLA s first 1,000-yard rusher since Chris Markey in 2006 (1,107), and totaled the highest yardage by a Bruin since Skip Hicks (1, ). He ran for 118 yards against USC to become the first Bruin back to hit the century mark versus the Trojans since DeShaun Foster in Franklin saw action in all 13 games in 2009, making eight starts. 4 UCLA FOOTBALL 2012 RELEASE UCLA ON THE RADIO The 2012 season will be UCLA s 16th with Clear Channel and the Bruin games are aired on AM 570 KLAC in Southern California. The broadcasts are produced by IMG, UCLA s corporate and media-rights holder. The Los Angeles all-sports station s broadcast includes a two-hour pre-game show (one hour local, one hour network) and a postgame show. Hall of Fame broadcaster Chris Roberts, a four-time Golden Mike Award winner, completed his 20th season as the voice of the Bruins. Former Bruin quarterback Matt Stevens was in his 15th year on the broadcast team and his 11th as the analyst in the booth. Former Bruin quarterback Wayne Cook finished up his 10th season as sideline reporter. AM 570 KLAC also provides ancillary programming, including head coach and player interviews during game weeks. UCLA IMG Sports Network games are also available nationally through an agreement with Sirius XM Satellite Radio, the Official Satellite Radio Partner of UCLA Athletics. Games can also be heard via the internet at uclabruins.com (a UCLA All-Access pass is needed). UCLA ON TELEVISION Entering the 2012 season, 95 of UCLA s last 96 games have been televised live, including 33 in a row. All 14 of UCLA s games in the 2011 season were on live TV. In 2010, each of the 12 contests were broadcast live. The Oregon State game in 2009 is the last game not to be aired live (it was delayed). Mora comes to UCLA after spending part of 2010 and most of 2011 as a television analyst and contributor for the NFL Network and the NFL on Fox. He brings 25 years of NFL coaching acumen with him to UCLA, including four years of NFL head coaching experience while at the helm of the Atlanta Falcons ( ) and the Seattle Seahawks (2009). Mora took over for Mike Holmgren as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks in He had served as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach for Seattle in the 2007 and 2008 campaigns. The Seahawks went 10-6 and fi nished fi rst in the NFC West in the 2007 season and won the Wild Card game in the playoffs. In his initial season as the head coach of the Falcons in 2004, Mora guided the team to an 11-5 record, becoming just the eighth rookie head coach in NFL history to win 11 games and the 11th to bring home a Division title. Atlanta captured the NFC South title and earned an appearance in the NFC Championship game for only the second time in franchise history. Mora was selected as the NFC Coach of the Year. The Falcon s defense improved from a league ranking of 32nd in 2003 to No. 14 overall the next season, fueled by a league-leading and franchise record 48 quarterback sacks.
