The other Boise State win came on March 3, 1978 in Seattle, a nail-biter. Last Game Recap: Senior guard Daphanie Kennedy scored a game-high 33 points and sophomore center Miranda Ayim added a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds to lead Pepperdine over Washington, 74-56, on Tuesday. The loss was the first for the Huskies at home this season and also snapped a three-game winning streak for Washington. Another streak that came to an end was the Huskies 14-game non-conference home winning streak that dated back to the season. Freshman guard/forward Katelan Redmon led Washington with a team-high 17 points, while senior point guard Emily Florence added seven points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Pepperdine held Washington to its lowest scoring total of the season and in turn shot 48.4 percent from the field. Jackson In First Year At Washington: Tia Jackson was named the eighth head coach in the history of the women s basketball program on April 6, Jackson begins her first season at Washington after a successful 11-year tenure in the assistant coaching ranks. Argens came off the bench in four games for the Huskies this season. She averaged 2.3 points and 2.8 rebounds, with her best performance coming at Gonzaga (Nov. 12) scoring five points and grabbing six rebounds. Argens is the second Husky to miss the season due to an injury. UW Recruiting Class Tabbed 11th in the Nation: First-year head coach Tia Jackson s inaugural recruiting class was tabbed No. 11 in the nation according to HoopGurlz.com, the website announced Dec. 3. The signing class includes a trio of nationally ranked prep standouts in guard Kristi Kingma (Mill Creek, Wash.), forward Liz Lay (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and forward Mollie Williams (Cerritos, Calif.). Lay headlines the group with her No. 18 national ranking by HoopGurlz.com, including a No. 3 billing at her position. Kingma is tabbed No. 44 according to HoopGurlz.com and is the 14th-ranked guard in the country. Williams is also ranked No. 64 by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Non-Conference Home Winning Streak Snapped: Washington s loss to Pepperdine on Tuesday snapped a 14-game non-conference home winning streak. Opening 3-0 at home this year, the Huskies were 6-0 at home against non-conference opponents last year after going 5-0 in Prior to Tuesday, the last non-conference home lost for UW was Dec. 21, 2004 versus Colorado in overtime (74-76). Balanced Attack: Nine different Huskies have reached double-figures in scoring in nine games, a group led by sophomore guard Sami Whitcomb and freshman guard/forward Katelan Redmon who have done so seven times. Redmon, who has started every game so far, is leading the squad with 13.6 points per game and has been a consistent contributor in every facet of the game. Besides leading the team in scoring, she is tied for second in steals (1.4 spg) and is third in assists (2.4 apg) and rebounding (5.4 rpg). Redmon, who has been the team s leading scorer in three of the last four games, has a string of sixstraight double-figure scoring games. Sink It Sami: Sophomore guard Sami Whitcomb is already on her way to a standout season. Whitcomb, who has started all nine games after coming off the bench for the most part as a freshman, is right behind Katelan Redmon with 12.4 points per game. Where Whitcomb has especially excelled has been from long range. Whitcomb began the week tied for seventh in the Pac-10 in three-point field goal shooting percentage (.429) and was fourth in three-pointers per game (2.25). Whitcomb s 19-point scoring effort versus versus Arkansas State was a career-high which earned her way to Husky Classic MVP honors. Whitcomb has scored in double-figures four times in the last five games. Fantastic Florence: Senior point guard and co-captain Emily Florence is the Huskies leader both on and off the floor. Florence, who has started 90-straight games dating back to her freshman campaign, is averaging a team-high 32.6 minutes of playing time this year. Perhaps saving her best for last, Florence is averaging career-highs of 7.4 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds. Florence has two double-figure scoring games, having tallied a career-high 15 points in the squad s season debut at Kansas State and 11 points vs. Arkansas State (Nov. 25). Florence was just one rebound shy of a double-double with the Lady Indians, a stat that is surely on its way for the Husky senior. Florence leads the team in assists (2.8 apg) and is tied for second in steals (1.4 spg). Banks To Redshirt: Senior guard Dominique Banks will redshirt the season, Jackson announced at media day Oct. 30. Banks missed the first 11 games last year after having surgery to repair stress fractures in both of her legs in September of She returned midway through the year and earned her way back into the starting lineup, averaging 4.4 points, but is still not 100 percent. Youth Movement: The Huskies 13-player roster includes eight underclassmen - three sophomores and five freshmen. One sophomore - Sami Whitcomb - and one freshman - Katelan Redmon - have started all nine games for Washington and all three leading scorers (Whitcomb, Redmon, and freshman Jess McCormack) are underclassmen. Home Sweet Home: The Huskies have a strong tradition of playing well on their home court and this season is no different. Washington is off to a 3-1 start at home and is 27-6 at Bank of America Arena dating back to the campaign. UW compiled a home record of 12-3 last season, opening the year with an impressive eight-game winning streak. UW has an all-time record of (.803) at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Jackson Gets First Win As UW Downs NAU: Led by a team-high 20 points from junior guard Michelle Augustavo, Washington won its first game of the season and the first for Tia Jackson as a collegiate head coach as UW cruised to an victory over Northern Arizona in the second day of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic, Nov. 17. The Huskies snapped a three-game season-opening losing streak with the win. Augustavo notched her second-straight 20-point scoring game with her output versus NAU, connecting on 7-of-14 attempts from the field and 5-of-10 tries from three-point range. Joining Augustavo in double-figures were freshman forward/center Jess McCormack who had 16 points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard/forward Katelan Redmon added 11 points. Washington overpowered the Lumberjacks on the boards, outrebounding NAU In turn, UW shot a season-high 49.1 percent clip from the field to go along with a season-high 85 points. Unlike the slow starts the Huskies fell victim to in their first three games, UW opened the game strong. After trailing 2-0 after a pair of made free-throws from NAU s Jenna Galloway and McCormack made one of two free-throws to cut the score to 2-1, the Huskies never trailed again.sparked by Augustavo who scored 14 of her 20 points in the opening 20 minutes including sinking four three-pointers, the Huskies used 30-9 run to build a 21-point cushion with 6:22 left in the first half. NAU came back with a 14-2 run to finish the half and cut their deficit to 10 points (27-37) at the intermission. NAU guard Laura Dinkins sank a three-pointer just one minute into the second-half to cut the Husky lead to seven (37-30), but UW never trailed by less than that. The Huskies led by as many as 17 points midway through the second-half. Dinkins led NAU with a game-high 26 points, the

5 only Lumberjack to finish the game in double-figures. Husky Coaching Staff: First-year head coach Tia Jackson is assisted by three coaches who have a combined 38 years of collegiate coaching experience. Former Husky Loree Payne is a familiar face to UW fans. Payne returns to coach at her alma mater after serving three years as an assistant at Portland and one year at Northwest Nazarene. Katie Abrahamson-Henderson joins Jackson s staff after spending the last five years as the head coach at Missouri State where she guided the Lady Bears to a overall record. Abrahamson-Henderson also spent assistant coaching tenures at Michigan State, Iowa State, Maine and Duquesne. Fred Applin rounds out the Husky staff. Applin came to Washington after spending the last three seasons as an assistant at Wake Forest.
