8 New Jersey Devils: Media Notes Wed., May 3; New Jersey 5 at New York 3 The Devils took a 3- lead in the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Rangers. The club is playing in the Conference Finals for the first time since 003 and the seventh time overall. New York out shot New Jersey 8-7 in the contest. New Jersey took a 3-0 first period lead behind goals from Stephen Gionta (3), Patrik Elias () and Travis Zajac (7). Zajac now has 7g-5a-pts in 7 playoff games this season after posting just 3g-9a-pts in his previous 8 post-season contests. New York scored late in the first and added goals less than a minute into the second and third periods, as well, to tie the game at 3-3.
