7 New Jersey Devils: Media Notes Last Game - Oct. 3, Devils 0 at Pittsburgh 3 The Devils fell to all-time in season-opening contests, and on the road. New Jersey opened the season in Pittsburgh for the first time and against the Penguins for the fourth time overall (2-1-1). New Jersey was shutout in its season-opener for the second time in team history (Oct. 8, 2011, 3-0 vs. Philadelphia). The Devils out shot the Penguins 27-21, and held a 21-9 advantage over the final two periods. Cory Schneider took the loss in his Devils' debut (18 saves). Martin Brodeur's NHL record streak of consecutive season-opening starts with the same team ended at 18. The last time someone other than Brodeur started a season-opener in goal was Oct. 6, 1993, when current Goaltending Coach Chris Terreri backstopped the Devils to a 2-1 win vs. Tampa Bay. Adam Henrique was unsuccessful on his first career penalty shot attempt (vs. M.A. Fleury). It was the first PS attempt by a Devil in a season-opener in team history. Ryane Clowe, Damien Brunner, Jaromir Jagr and Michael Ryder each made their Devils' debut. Brunner led the club with 8 shots on goal; no other player had more than 3. What s New? A partnership controlled by David Blitzer and Joshua Harris completed their purchase of the Devils from Jeff Vanderbeek on August 15. On June 30, New Jersey acquired Cory Schneider from Vancouver in exchange for the ninth overall selection in the 2013 Entry Draft (Bo Horvat). On July 5, the Devils signed free agent forwards Ryane Clowe, Rostislav Olesz and Michael Ryder. The Devils signed free agent forward Jaromir Jagr on July 24. New Neighbors On March 14, the NHL's Board of Governors approved realignment and a division-based playoff format for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, creating two eight-team divisions in the Eastern Conference and two seven-team divisions in the Western Conference. New Jersey will now play in the Metropolitan Division with its former Atlantic Division rivals NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh along with newcomers Carolina, Columbus and Washington. The Devils will play five games vs. the Islanders (2 home, 3 away) and the Rangers (3 home, 2 away) and four against each of the other teams (2 home, 2 away). Longtime Rivals Goaltender Martin Brodeur and right wing Jaromir Jagr (who signed with the Devils as a free agent on July 24) were the 20th and 5th overall selections in the 1990 Entry Draft, respectively. The future Hall-of-Famers have faced-off against each other 65 times, including their first meeting on April 6, 1994, in which Jagr recorded an assist to help defeat Brodeur (21 saves) and the Devils, 3-1, in Pittsburgh. Brodeur, however, has compiled a record (2 ND) with 5 shutouts, a 2.28 goals-against average and.907 savepercentage vs. Jagr's teams over the years. Jagr has scored 18g-37a-55pts vs. Brodeur, more than any other player (2nd, Mike Knuble, 42pts). Portending Greatness? Goaltender Cory Schneider, who the Devils acquired from Vancouver on June 30 for the ninth overall selection in the 2013 Entry Draft, is two games shy of 100 for his NHL career. Through his first 99 appearances, Schneider is with 9 shutouts, 2.21 goalsagainst average and a.927 save-percentage. For comparison, in his first 100 games (through Oct. 31, 1995) Martin Brodeur had a record of , with 7 ShO, 2.43 GAA and a.909 save-percentage. Prolific Pair Right wing Jaromir Jagr (681g-1007a-1688pts) and left wing Patrik Elias (375g-555a-930pts) are the NHL's 1st and 8th active leading scorers, respectively. Their combined 2,618 career points are tops among any pair of teammates in the league; Anaheim's Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu (2,233pts) are second. In addition, Jagr and Elias are also the no. 1 and no. 2 scoring Czech-born players in NHL history. Milan Hejduk is third with 375g-430a-805pts.

9 Game-Winning Record Right wing Jaromir Jagr needs one game-winning goal to move into sole-possesion of first place on the NHL's all-time leader board. He tied Phil Esposito last season with his 118th career game-winning goal on Apr. 21 vs. Florida. Working Overtime Right wing Jaromir Jagr is the NHL's all-time leader with 17 career overtime goals. He extended his record last season with an OT tally on Feb. 6 at Edmonton. Left Wing Patrik Elias is tied for second, along with Sergei Fedorov, Ilya Kovalchuk and Mats Sundin, in league history with 15 OT game-winners. Call to the Hall On July 9, former Devils Scott Niedermayer and Brendan Shanahan were among the five individuals selected for induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Niedermayer was a member of all 3 Devils Stanley Cup Championship teams, while Shanahan was the club's first choice and second overall selection of the 1987 Entry Draft. New Jersey will face Toronto in the Hall of Fame Game at Air Canada Centre on Friday, November 9, and the Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 11. On July 25, former Devil Bill Guerin was among five individuals selected for induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. Guerin was a member of New Jersey's 1995 Stanley Cup Championship team. Draft Recap Defenseman Steven Santini (2nd rd./42nd overall) from the U.S. Development Program was the first of five selections by Executive Vice President, Hockey Operations/Director of Scouting David Conte and his staff in the 2013 Entry Draft at Prudential Center.
