Ryan Malone tied the game less than two minutes later with a power play tally, but Naslund reclaimed the lead for the Blueshirts with his own power play goal at 17:57 of the second period. The Lightning pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late in the third period, and Mark Recchi tied it up with 50 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, Naslund and Nikolai Zherdev (two assists) converted their attempts and Henrik Lundqvist (27 saves) turned aside two of two in the shootout to give New York the win. Blair Betts tied the game at one goal apiece midway through the first period, assisted by Nikolai Zherdev (three assists) and Michal Rozsival. Brandon Dubinsky (one goal and one assist) gave the Blueshirts the lead early in the middle frame and, on the goal, Zherdev recorded his 200th NHL point with an assist. New York doubled their advantage in the third period with a power play tally by Dan Girardi, and Scott Gomez clinched the win with an empty netter in the game's final minute. Chris Drury, Ryan Callahan and Markus Naslund each registered an assist for the Rangers, and Henrik Lundqvist made 35 saves in net.

Ottawa tallied two more goals late in the middle frame to carry a three-goal lead into the third period. Markus Naslund brought the Rangers to within two at 1:32 of the final frame, off a feed from Nikolai Zherdev and Wade Redden. The Blueshirts could not complete their comeback effort, however, as the Senators' Nick Foligno responded with a goal midway through the period to clinch the win for Ottawa. The Rangers responded with a Chris Drury (one goal and one assist) power play goal at 3:12 of the second period, from Wade Redden and Henrik Lundqvist. The assist was Lundqvist's first point since March 16, 2006 vs. Washington. Vancouver's Pavol Demitra answered with a power play tally of his own just over two minutes later. 9 Tom Renney New York Rangers Head Coach Is now in his ninth season with the Rangers and his fourth season as Head Coach. After being named the 33rd head coach in franchise history on July 6, 2004, Renney has led the Rangers to 40-or-more wins in three consecutive seasons, a feat last accomplished by the club in In , Renney compiled a record during the regular season and helped the Blueshirts reach the playoffs for the third time in as many years. He also guided the team to the Eastern Conference Semifinals for the second consecutive season following their first-round defeat of the New Jersey Devils in five games.
