Two for Two: With their opening victories against The Citadel and Eastern Kentucky, Asheville has now started 2-0 the last three seasons the last time the Bulldogs went 3-0 to open a season was the beginning of the 2005 campaign. Last Game: The Bulldogs grabbed a 2-1 victory over Eastern Kentucky Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs received an early goal from sophomore Caroline Houser in the 14th minute to jump on the board and take control of the game. Sophomore Paige Trent knocked home her second goal of the season for Asheville s second goal in the 63rd minute. The junior s goal proved to be the difference, as the Colonels notched a goal in the 87th minute by Emmi Carroll as part of their late push in the match s final minutes. Series History: UNC Asheville is all-time against Western Carolina. The last meeting was an exhibition in 2014 but they haven t played a regular season game since 2011 when the Catamounts defeated the Bulldogs 4-0 in Cullowhee. Asheville s last victory over WCU came Sept. 3, a 3-0 win in Cullowhee. Shots Galore: Asheville outshot The Citadel 37-1 in their season opener (8/21). The 37 shots taken is a new UNC Asheville women s soccer program record, besting the 36-shot game the Bulldogs had against Lenoir- Rhyne in October Trent finished with a game-high six shots, while James and Naber each collected five shots in the win. As a team, Asheville saw 14 players record at least one shot. On-ield Action: Junior Paige Trent was been named the Big South Women s Soccer Attacking Player of the Week for the opening week of games, the conference announced 8/24. Trent scored a goal in each of the Bulldogs season-opening contests, connecting on a penalty kick in Asheville s 4-0 victory over The Citadel on 8/21 and notching a goal in the 63rd minute of Sunday s win over Eastern Kentucky. Sunday s goal proved to be the gamewinner. Overall, Trent finished with eight total shots, four of them on goal, from her forward position in the two contests. ooley Named H.S. All-American: reshman Jessica ooley was one of 27 women s players from across the country announced as 2015 NSCAA High School Winter-Spring All-America selections in July by The National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She becomes the first high school All-American in Bulldog women s soccer history. All-State reshmen: reshmen Bella Iorio and Ellie Stone were each named to the 2015 women s soccer North Carolina East-West All-Star game rosters this summer before reporting for fall camp. The pair were two of 32 players from across the state of North Carolina to play in the annual exhibition game. illing the Void: The Bulldogs lost four seniors to graduation from 2014, including goalkeeper Heather Muller and midfielder Amanda ailor. ailor tallied 20 points in 2014 on 5 goals, breaking the school s single-season assist record with a BSC-best 10 assists, earning irst-team All-Big South Conference honors. Muller earned BSC Honorable Mention honors and and was also named to the BSC All- Tournament team.
